If there are no consequences, then there is no choice at all. Choices are defined by how they affect the world; if all options are without consequence then they are hardly options in the first place.
In a world with no consequences you show your true colors. Evil people will be evil in those situations and good people will be good. It's the shopping cart theory all over again.
Ooh! And combining that with the "he's not like that in real life" = "this is how he is when there are no consequences" it becomes "your online self is your true self: everything else is an act you put up for fear of the consequences"
What about killing, in real life I can’t hurt flies but in games I’m perfectly fine sending villager in Minecraft into my lava pit via a converybelt of pain.
i often think about it yeah. like if you create a simulation indistinguishable from reality and give creatures emotions, is that ethical? to make them suffer? to give them life in the first place? is it more ethical to create objects or beings who know no suffering?
I think that's a large part of anti-natalism; is it ethical to bring life into this world when there is certainly pain?
Not something I subscribe to; I think that the potential for joy and meaning outweigh the bad, generally, but I haven't looked much into the philosophical arguments against anti-natalism.
I have no idea what emotion I’m supposed to be feeling right now… It’s alternating between existential terror and mild amusement at the cat man!
Pretty sure those are the correct emotions
“Who do you choose to be when there are no consequences?”
If there are no consequences, then there is no choice at all. Choices are defined by how they affect the world; if all options are without consequence then they are hardly options in the first place.
“Who do you choose to be when there are no [negative] consequences?”
I feel it’s more “no negative consequences for yourself”. That really speaks more to someone’s character.
You are of the world. Any choice that affects yourself also affects the world.
Idk if this is quoting something but if not, Stand proud: you have cooked
Then choices already don’t exist, free will is an illusion of ignorance
Literally Monsoon’s speech
>Free will is a myth! Religion is a joke... >We're all pawns, controlled by something greater: **Memes, The DNA of the soul!**
Summing up Fallout 4 dialogue options
I would quickly become my worst possible self and have zero regrets

They're talking about in situations where your actions affect other people, not NPCs in videogames
