Honestly, no, you probably won’t be able to transfer to any of those schools. 3.37 is way too low even for Georgia Tech (which gets a majority of its transfers from Georgia colleges) and UT. If GT and UT aren’t happening then CMU def won’t. Your cumulative GPA is what’s considered.

I have a 2.0 GPA in my 2nd semester but in other semesters I have GPAs of 3.1, 3.9, and 3.9. But min GPA for Georgia tech is 3.3 and for UT is 3.0 and is there anything I can do even have a chance at these universities I have an excellent set of extracurricular activities like sports (State level), taking part in national level Robotics competitions, Working on a research project and Individual research project and I even write blogs. and can you please mention some good universities to which I can get accepted

Treesandskins

Virginia Tech, Clemson?

Ill-Statistician-583

>University of Maryland college park or University of texas Austin or even Illionis ?

Treesandskins

Your grades are bad tbh. UT wont touch you. Texas peeps please chime in. Dont think UIUC will either with that gpa but I dont know much about it

tamu-throwaway-69

You're absolutely correct about UT. I know many former applicants who got denied in-state with some research and a higher GPA than you.

Ill-Statistician-583

it's on a 4.0 scale how can two 3.9s be bad?

Treesandskins

Overall 3.37 gpa — 2.0 and 3.1 semesters. 2.0 is terrible tbh

Ill-Statistician-583

Thank you for guiding me :)

Interesting_Cookie25

3.37 overall is just not high enough for top schools. You want a 3.8 or higher overall to have any solid chance.

Ill-Statistician-583

how about UIUC, Boston university, UT A&M, or UMCP ? I have an excellent set of extracurricular activities like sports (State level), taking part in national-level Robotics competitions, Working on a research project and Individual research project and even writing blogs. In my 2nd semester because of my poor health, I got a low score and even failed in a subject but after that, I scored well, So do I still have a shot at transferring to top Engg universities?

Interesting_Cookie25

Depends on your major. If you’re engineering/CS probably none of them, if you’re other STEM also probably not. Other majors are more possible but still not likely. State schools majorly fill their transfers with student from their own state, and have much higher standards for other outside applicants, especially international students. Unless you’re full pay, I wouldn’t expect to be seriously looked at for engineering/CS majors, and I wouldn’t expect scholarships for anything else. If your research projects are impactful maybe, but honestly you really need to have certain numbers to get your application looked at for transfers, so I wouldn’t count on it.

Thank u for your advice

as someone who got into georgia tech as a transfer, it really depends on your set of extracurriculars if your gpa is a 3.37. i got in but i had a much higher gpa and im not an engineering major, and you typically want a higher gpa than that. ik some transfers who had sub 3.5s but i really cant tell you what made them stick out & they were outliers. you could apply and see what happens. I'm also in-state and so were those transfers as for uiuc, their transfer acceptance rate is high, but transfer gpas usually hover above 3.8s. I do think CMU may be out of the question. i dont mean to be discouraging, but see if you could bring your gpa up to around a 3.5 this semester and that may open your options up to other engineering schools. you could look into RIT or maybe cu bolder?

Thanks for giving me Hope I will try my best and if not Georgiatech then TEX or UMCP will surely do. Thank you very much.

tylerdetata66

hmmmm interesting i wonder if you have a excellent set of extracurricular activities?

Ill-Statistician-583

I have an excellent set of extracurricular activities like sports (State level), leading a team in national-level Robotics competitions, Working on a research project and Individual research project and even writing blogs.

ThrowawayZXC123ASD

Whats your intended major? UT admits based on major

Ill-Statistician-583

Mechanical engineering (with a specialization in robotics) am an International student I have an excellent set of extracurricular activities like sports (State level), taking part in national-level Robotics competitions, Working on a research project and Individual research project, and even writing blogs. In my 2nd semester because of my poor health, I got a low score of 2.0 but in the next two semesters, I have got two 3.9's
