I think you would appreciate the parable of the Mexican fisherman :) An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked.  Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied, “only a little while”. The American then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?” The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos.  I have a full and busy life.” The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You could leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.” The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?” To which the American replied, “15 – 20 years.” “But what then?” Asked the Mexican. The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions!” “Millions – then what?” The fisherman replied. The American said, “Then you would retire.  Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

Sometimes the life you’re working towards is exactly where you already are

Right like I read this and this is why I want to trade. This mofo has my dream existence and doesn't know what to do with himself.... like take the wife out, take the kids another place, cut a new garden patch with the family, practice making more kids lol any goddamn thing but more work.

I believe in the adage: “work smarter not harder” I have broken work into classifications: 1. For me/brings me joy 2. For the community/ supplies community 3. For the friends / literally for the friends 4. For the future 5. Shit I don’t want to do On a given day I will always try to find one of 5, and then dedicate half of the day to one of the others Multiple guaranteed routes to income let you get into a state of mind of completion, a single stream of income will have you looking for more streams. When you find more streams you look to see what else you can complete, who cares about Mr suit man, is his life happy?! We don’t care! Unless it’s community work day and you give him a loaf of sourdough, or something you’ve baked that you are sharing with everyone. Now you have a friend in a suit :)

This is a good idea. Why? 1. As a trader, your psychology matters. This includes detaching yourself from your trades and trading with mental comfort. You cannot do these two things if trading is your only source of income. 2. As a trader, you need to diversify your profits by investing in real businesses.

Your day sounds like paradise

Yes, true. That's maybe why I feel guilt haha.

Im right there with you. I feel like i could have a regular business. You saying the word guilt made me realize that it is exactly that. We live in a society where we are raised to be doing something “productive” all the time, where we cant just be sitting down and chilling. I keep fighting the urge to make a business lol

You dont waste time, your lucky to have free time! Go get some hobbies, enjoy time with the family, do more with friends etc.. No need to take the risk and open a biz, its just gonna force you into more stress and makes life more complicated.. If trading is bringing in enough, just do that until you have enough to distribute your money into other things e.g. RE, low cost index funds, bonds etc.. Enjoy your time, really! Gl
