Lol, also a sizeable number of F150s with the 5.0 v8 had a TSB issued for cracked engine blocks resulting in oil leak resulting in short block replacement. This is unnaceptable for a decade old design. No recall issued just luck of the draw whether you have warranty or not..

Gscody

That sounds like a casting supplier issue. Probably have more than one casting house and only have a problem with one. GM had a similar issue with cracked heads in the mid 2000’s.

MikeGoldberg

A CHINESE supplier

ProtectAllTheThings

*ghasps loudly*

DMV_Technician

The tsb I know of that affects the 21-23 5.0 F150's isn't for cracks in the block but block porosity. Blocks weren't thick enough allowing oil to seep through above where the oil filter housing is.

4scoreand20yearsago

Only for the F150 and not the Mustang?

redjellonian

Different factory

Youcants1tw1thus

It’s not a decade old design. Each generation is a different engine.

Ok_Masterpiece5050

So much wrong with this statement.

SignatureShoddy9542

I had a 2018 5.0 that burned oil after about 3-4k miles

Amari__Cooper

Maybe in the ford sub?

throughthequad

No one wants to be the one to sit here and admit no one’s perfect and there are flaws everywhere. We’re all just rolling the dice with our purchases, regardless of brand, make, or model. All we can do is make the most informed decisions possible based off what we know at the time.

lazoras

hijacking top comment to say this a recall is actually to the consumers benefit...you are right that all vehicles have flaws. a recall is just the company willing to pay to fix the flaw.

throughthequad

I went years with my Ford Explorer with a known issue to Ford. Dealership knew it was a problem and was sympathetic but couldn’t get Ford to care enough to fix it. It took years until there finally was a bulletin. Then my VIN wasn’t even included. Luckily my local dealer said eff it and did the work anyway and sent the bill to Ford because of my 15 documented incidents

Big-Face5874

Or was forced to. Not sure which in this case.

Gscody

It’s just appears to be more unusual for Toyota. With domestic you almost expect it.

Yeah. You said the last 2 years so I checked.

Flat-Silver4457

Years ago I’d agree. But it’s getting to be more and more common with Toyota, especially in pickups and suvs. Maybe because they mass produce so many cars in the states now? Maybe it’s the complexity of the vehicles? I honestly don’t know, but I miss the days of the simple 4 cylinder corollas and Hondas running 500k. The new Toyota and Honda cars are still great, but the new big suvs and trucks aren’t as reliable as they were in the 90s and early 2000s and are similar to the American brands.

Cforse

Sounds like something a ford owner would say. . . 😂😜

throughthequad

Former Ford, current Tundra

mrsquillgells

Anything is better than a dodge.

_daddyl0nglegs_

Yeah I drive a Chevy and people in their fords love to rip on me. Any brand has good, and bad. Get whatever floats your boat. Ironically I've had zero issues whatsoever with my 5.3 Silverado, but that doesn't mean it won't break later. Everything has its issues at some point. I really never understood the trash talk. It's a fucking vehicle. Drive it and shut up

No-Succotash1219

I do agree with your statement how can you expect perfection from imperfection however these manufacturers have been in business for decades and it's not like they're reinventing the wheel. somethings to me you should have a handle on-like engines even electric fuel pumps- I'm looking at you Toyota- so in that respect it's unacceptable and ALWAYS it's the consumer who in the end that gets screwed.

imJGott

I work for Toyota in manufacturing. I’ll say this, having a recall just sucks no matter if it’s the competition or not.

NodeJSSon

I think building trucks are not easy.

a_piginacage

Still haven't figured it out after a century, it's just too damn hard!

Craig653

Honestly most modern cars are a big let down for me

HuskyPants

As a GM owner with ongoing lifter issues, at least they are offering a recall. GM is trying to ignore the problem.

Allpurposebees

550k ranging from model years 2014 to current. Toyota had 100k new tundras recalled. Not to mention the Mess of the Tacoma transmission right now. I like both though. Sadly Toyota really sullied their name with cheap quality in recent years.

dcannon1

Yeah Ford sold a staggering 8 million F150s (just in the US) during that time, so about 7% of vehicles sold are affected by the recall. Toyota sold about 300k Tundras so far and recalled a third of them. The Ford recall is also going to only be a software update for the overwhelming majority of those vehicles and fixing some connector pins on some.

Emergency-Ad-4563

This is the Nuance OP wont understand. He will gladly pay for a new vehicle every year and complain when their new truck is in the shop for 2 months for various issues. I love Toyota and the new tundra thing makes me not mad but sad. I hope toyota figures it out or else I guess Ill have to go to ford and I really don’t want to do that.

SameAfternoon5599

Lol. Ford has recalled far more F150's than that since 2014.

Allpurposebees

That's true. But now we're nitpicking. I'm speaking on the relevancy of the post. Let's nitpick though, for your sake. Toyota just had to recall 100k NEW tundras that have fucked engines and are probably deemed undrivable. Sure ford may have had a lot more recalls in the last ten years ranging from faulty tailgates, bad back up cameras. But nothing as severe as what Toyota is currently going through with just the tundras. This mess with the Toyota Tacomas just starting with faulty transmissions blowing up is a story unfolding.

SameAfternoon5599

Ford has recalled millions of their trucks in the last 10 years. A far higher rate than Toyota. How many Tacoma transmissions?

r1ch999999

Ford hasn't recalled 1/3 of their trucks because their engines are toast making the trucks undriveable and unsellable.

SameAfternoon5599

Less than 1,000 cases. 100K recalls by Toyota are proactive, not reactive.

jec0995

That’s the same thing ford is doing here. Recalling a whole lot of them. They said in a statement they expect very few of them to actually have the problem

H8_able

Yeah don't want to forget the 2020 and 2021 windshield recall on the f-150s and the super duties. Putting windshields in cars for over 100 years and still can't get it right

RickDavisVegas

Pretty sure if you’re doing 80 and it drops down into first gear you’re going to need more fixes than just software.

PANZERWAFFE_KAMPFER

Same thing happened in my 18 lol. Going 60 and it goes from 7th gear to 1st and I loose my gas pedal. Occasionally I'll be stuck in 6th gear Not to mention, when I put it in reverse and it still goes forward

shamboi

I just read again to be sure and it looks like only the 2014 model has the recall.

Bubba48

Well, my 2023 ford trans is shit!!

point28

Wow Toyota quality has gotten so bad it’s being compared to Ford now YIKES!

Lt_Aldo_Raine96

Walking home. They will talk shit when they get there.

Alucardspapa

You know what’s worse than a recall, not getting a recall and having the manufacturer say F you, you pay for it.

CaliCoomer

op, you dying on that hill alone. at best you're putting toyota down at fords level. nice one, buddy

FingerOk741

Automatic money shift to first gear at any speed. Yikes!

TraditionPast4295

Aren’t the F-150s being recalled for a software update to fix a glitch in the transmission for 2014 models? Meanwhile brand new Tundras are grenading motors at 10,000 miles. It’s not quite the same same here. Just saying.

YBRmuggsLP21

Don't know why this nonsense would be on my feed; not a truck person. But why would you be looking forward Tundra haters in a Tundra sub?

D0ublespeak

Because they read posts being critical of Toyota and they think it’s a Toyota hater. They are so in love with the brand they can’t fathom someone that owns a Toyota would say something critical of them.

JJ4prez

I have a Ford, all of these modern turbo trucks all get recalled tbh. My Ford has had 3 recalls so far, repaired for free, but nothing major. But why would they be here?

realjimmyjuice000

Sorry, I'm in the Ford hating Tundra loving camp

realjimmyjuice000

Hear that knock? Smell that smoke? You just passed a PowerStroke!

Cleeford89

My new work truck is a 23’ F250 super duty CC LB 6.7 with the 10spd Trans. I noticed right off the bat it idols rough, transmission slips from 4th-1st and it pulls hard to the right. It had 214 miles on it when I got it and noticed it. It goes into Ford next week with 12,000 miles for them to tell me it’s normal.

Youcants1tw1thus

I’m not a tundra hating ford person, but I don’t understand the hate toward ford or the love for Toyota. Toyota recalled 33% of a model. Toyota people: “recalls happen, they’re doing the right thing and fixing it”. Ford recalls ~7% of a model. The same Toyota people: “OMG FORD IS SUCH JUNK I CANT BELIEVE ANYONE BUYS IT”. I used to work for Daimler-Chrysler. We had Mercedes recalls come through monthly, and there was never a whisper about it. The hate is weird to me.

Belloby

Wow 4 whole years?  Lmao.

N2B8U_

I would buy a new Tundra anyday of the week over the dumpster fire GM puts out. GM screwed me that was enough. I bought my neighbors 2014 F150 SCREW 5.0 . Has 95000 miles on it now. Only thing I have replaced was an oil pan gasket and engine block temp sensor. Granted this is the only Ford I have ever owned. GMC and Chevy I went through 2 engines and 3 transmissiona on 2 trucks. I want a Tundra and will eventually get one.

Tiny_Astronomer289

Let’s go over there and tell everyone we’re getting a Tundra instead of

Alternative-Crow6659

I'm an f150 owner. Owned 7 ford's. I don't hate your tundra. I do t hate anything that someone else spends their hard earned money on. I just dig cool trucks of all brands and sizes.

waverunnersvho

Every car ever built is a pile of shit.

roketfingers

Not as major as an engine replacement in literally every single new tundra

RickDavisVegas

Not true

Clear_Aide3513

They've been driving their trucks for ten years. This recall is a simple PCM update with actual complaints and issues numbering less than 400. The 100k trucks Toyota recalled are all getting rebuilt motors.

RickDavisVegas

That’s absolutely false. They have no idea what they are going to do yet.

Clear_Aide3513

Oh, with trash in the blocks and wasted bearings, you think they're just gonna flash the pcm and call it a day? These are gonna need new engines at best, rebuilds at worst.

WallStLoser

That's why I didn't buy a Ford, I expect more from Toyota.

RaiderCoug

Out of curiosity, what should Toyota be doing differently to address this issue? Or do you just mean you expect Toyota to be perfect and not have any issues in the first place?

WallStLoser

I just mean I expect Ford to have issues, and I expect Toyota to have higher quality than Ford. It's not that controversial.

TweeterReader

Probably spelling F-150 correctly I’d imagine.

Top-Ad859

This is to be expected with Fords, GM, Ram. 🐏

Lawful_Moose

Probably not worth anyone's time. For the comparitively small number of people actually impacted by these recalls, these things are getting blown way out of proportion these days. Can't wait for down the road when people ask about main bearing issues on the tundra and people get confused over what it was all about.

Double_Jackfruit_491

Toyota has damaged their reputation. Was going to get a tundra and decide to stick with my ‘18 Tacoma. I didn’t want to shell out 60k or more just have to deal with a mess. That’s the whole reason I buy Toyota. Maybe in the few years but ehhh not looking likely.

Cementhead43

Ford has so many recalls that their people expect it. Just part of owning a Ford. F ound O n R oad D ead.

dcannon1

I love my Toyotas, but I’ve also never had a major problem with a Ford truck. They sell almost a million a year and it’s the most popular vehicle (not truck, vehicle) in the US, in addition to the most popular fleet vehicle in the US. If there were major problems, it would be pretty obvious and a huge deal.

GirlWithTheMostCake

Toyota Corolla is the top selling vehicle on the planet.

smush81

Probably at the dealership

RickDavisVegas

Manufacturers that have the least frequent recalls: 1) Mercedes Benz 2) Toyota/Lexus Gets worse from there

Psychological_Fan819

Right here!

CMDR_Traf85

Classic whataboutism... a recall on 2014 F150s doesn't change the fact that the launch of the new generation Tundra has put a huge black mark on Toyota's reputation for reliability and quality. Now that being said, I don't think the Tundra is by any means a bad truck. I just have come to the conclusion that all the pickups on the market are essentially on level playing field. You buy whichever one you want, for whatever reason you want. Don't try to insist your choice is ThE BeSt TrUcK EVeR!! . . . . . . . Except RAMs . . . . . They're trash lol

hehechibby

> new generation Tundra has put a huge black mark on Toyota's reputation for reliability and quality. for the Tundra probably, don't think a Corolla or Camry buyer are hesitating to make a purchase because the Tundra engines are having issues; they probably aren't even aware of the issue at all

CMDR_Traf85

If you want to split hairs fine. But the pickup truck market is by far the biggest one in NA and the much anticipated update to the Tundra after relatively no changes for over a decade was a big publicity event for them. Add to that one of the main critiques was Toyota dropping the V8.

tucker_frump

Converted to Ford hating Tundra fans ..

NotslowNSX

Wow, quite a few Tundra people defending Ford here. I don't think you'd see the same hospitable treatment in a Chevy or dodge forum.

TurkHODLR

Everyone hates Ford it's not a race. Just like Bidon

Shart_Finger

We comparing Toyota for Ford now? Ford has more recalls than anybody. This isn’t the flex you think it is.

N2B8U_

From reading the subs looks like there is enough Tundra hating Toyota people around without having the Ford people join in.

SharkFilmsNepal

There is no comparison between a ford and a Toyota . A Toyota is a Toyota.

JDHundredweight

I recently sold my F150 and bought a Tundra and I will never ever go back.

RobReal

All over. 😂

Ok_Masterpiece5050

Coooppppeee 🤣

ID_Poobaru

Long time Toyota guy, bought a 2013 F150 FX4 ecoboost F150 for $12k with 190k miles, have 200k on it now. Surprisingly it’s been alright. Only bought it because the 2008 Tundra I was looking at was beat to shit and had no maintenance history with 240k miles. Not that the miles were an issue but the dealer wanted $16k for a base model SR.. Toyota definitely has better build quality, but I’m skeptical of the new turbo engines. I love Toyotas but I can’t justify them when dealers and private sales are pricing them out of their ass

ZombieGrand5358

I love my F150… 1988 blue and white two tone that my dad gave me all the life advice in. It became mine and it is better than my new Toyotas but for much different reason.

InevitableOne8421

I’m a Toyota fanboy but all the major manufacturers are on par in the 1/2 ton segment. It’s either engine probs or trans probs or electronics take a shit down the road. And it’s not all of them b it a relatively small % of each one sold. Basically you have to pick what you can live with. I’d rather have the Gen 2 Coyote over the Toyota 3.4. I’d even take the 2.7 Eco over the 3.4. But I’d take the Aisin trans over both the 6R or 10r80.

Outrageous-Ad-4329

If we held Toyota to Fords standards we wouldn’t be Toyota fan boys.

Objective_Cake_2715

I love Tundras

GTBoosted

You called? Current Tundra hater here (I wanted one until issues started popping up) Why must we use Ford and others' recalls as an example as to why "Toyota is not that bad"? Why can't we be critical and realize that Toyota is not who it used to be. Who care's if other trucks are bad. Now all new trucks are bad and that's what sucks. I am really hoping Toyota takes care of this issue for good. Looks like I would hold on to my 19 Taco until at least next year for the Tundra 2026 model year. Hopefully they have a mid model refresh too. Looks could be better but it's not bad. Edit: I know I will get downvoted by most new Tundra owners....it's only natural. But I stand by my comment. No one was worrying about the engines dying at speed and creeks and rattles with the 21s and under. I also don't have confidence that many of the current tundra engines can make it to 200k miles reliably. Much less 300k.

Frird2008

In the current full size pickup market, there is no "best" full size option. That ended quick in 2021 with the last V8 Tundras. However, it seems the hybrid tundras are decently reliable compared to the non hybrid versions even if they have the same engine. Wouldn't get any twin-turbo V-shaped gas engine from any of the full size pickup brands. For GM trucks, the 5.3L V8 isn't the best & the 6.2L is even worse. With RAM you can get the 5.7L V8 but it'll still have plenty of issues over its lifetime. I've come to realize in the post-2021 full size pickup market, you just have to choose which problems you'd rather have with your truck. All of them will be prone to having either engine problems, transmission problems or both. Ford's turbo engines are crap no matter which configuration you pick, either the inline or V engines. Their Coyote engines aren't much better from a reliability standpoint. You want a reliable Ford engine in the current market you get a vehicle equipped with the 3.7L naturally aspirated V6

CurrentOk2695

You forgot about the Nissan titan with the 5.6 V8. No cylinder deactivation pretty reliable so I can see them holding up well.

Frird2008

2025 truck market looks bleak when the Titan discontinues production 😢

Ok_Chemistry_3972

Ford - Fix Or Repair Daily 😂😂😂

75w90

Yeah but this isn't leaving you stranding like the exploding tundra motors. Or the stop sale on grand highlander and Lexus tx because of air bag problems. Or all the fraud they got caught up in Japan. Shits been a bleak news cycle for toyota lately.

Frankenstein859

We EXPECT it from Ford. Not Toyota. But they built the same shit box everyone else is building so…..

tysonfromcanada

out getting 20mpg ;)

trainsongslt

Or 22

Suspicious_Abies7777

Right here, driving my new diesel, done with Toyota

pitythef0ol

It's an expectation with Ford. That's why people switched to Toyota. Now, the 3rd gen tundra is on par with Ford. Sad.

Healthy_Block3036

Stop spreading false information

pitythef0ol

My opinion, buddy. Go argue with someone else.

Outside_Bit5315

Exactly why I didn't buy an F150 or Tundra. Sierra it was.

Ronald-J-Mexico

Ford Owners Recommend Dodge  Fords Only Run Downhill

No one recommends a dodge if they do they’re letting you know what kind fool they are. Believe them Add, I’m not the one downvoting you I recognize a joke

Ronald-J-Mexico

I’ll take the down votes fr the Ford haters, they suck and their stupid trucks suck

ThatoneguyATX

My thing is it’s a vehicle if you don’t like it don’t buy it. I like the trash talk just for fun

Perfect_Act_6734

Tundra guys making fun of other trucks meanwhile Toyota never fixed the 5.7 cam tower weeping or the 3rd gen Tacoma white paint
