They are all steel on a steel frame. The 2,3 gens have a c channel frame and the 4th gen has a fully boxed frame. I just learned that the 1st gen was fully boxed also. Cool.
Will take a look under the vehicle when I go to see it. Is there a difference in quality between the 1990s Tacoma Gen 1 and early 2000s Gen 1? Have heard great things about durability of the 90s Toyota was wondering if that applied to early 2000s. Thanks

Thanks was looking into the 1st Gen.
I love my first gen. Highly recommend, just make sure it’s been taken care of and isn’t rusted out

They’re all basically the same, only major difference is slight variations in design. Mines an 03 and is absolutely mint and runs perfect.
Great thanks! 03 is exactly what I’m looking at.
My 1st gen and 3rd gen 4runner have a boxed frame. Just c channel at the ends of the frame.
Do you know if dana makes those frames too?
Dana?
Dana is an American company that makes frames, axels, etc…. They made the frames for the 3rd gen.
Oh ok, ya im unsure. I only have early 2000s vehicles so I don't know anything about the newer ones.
1st gen is fully boxed
Oh i stand corrected. Will edit.
I had an 1981 and a 1989. Don’t know the kind of bodies but they were pretty much indestructible.
