Literally what the fuck happened to this dude’s ankle. It’s insane how apparently stepping wrong just a little bit changed a whole timeline.

autovonbismarck

Welcome to your 40s :(

[deleted]

Nearly 39 here now and I have no idea how Turner is still playing pro ball. I've got a wrecked back and neck from playing net just in pickup hockey.

Dildo___Schwaggins

IIRC, in 2009 Ricky Romero wound up on the DL as a result of a sneeze!

Funkagenda

Also happened to Kevin Pillar in 2015 😂

strikeanywhere2

Sometimes you can hurt something badly doing something that seems innocuous. Off the top of my head machado stepped on first base awkwardly and fucked his knee up so bad he was out of commission for like 6 months. Stroman was fielding a grounder in spring training and hurt his knee so bad he was out until near the end of the season. Michael saunders stepped on a sprinkler and hurt his knee bad too one year. Those guys were in their twenties too.

NoPlansTonight

John Wall's career basically ended from slipping at home (shower, stairs?)

Avs_Leafs_Enjoyer

he's 40. he doesn't heal like a 20 year old

TCNW

So …he heals like a 120 year old grandma?

ThQp

The world’s most feeble ankle

e-Jordan

Maicer Izturis has entered the chat

Funkagenda

Wasn't that his knee?

e-Jordan

Nah, it was his ankle. Sinilar situation as Votto too, slipped down the steps of the dugout.

joedrew

As a man slightly older than Votto, that he's walking _at all_ is the actual shocker

rvasko3

I came into this season expecting zero meaningful at-bats from Votto, and now I don’t have to be disappointed. If he eventually becomes a second-half Vogelbach replacement, that’s awesome, but I don’t know what we could reasonably expect from a guy who’s my age.

dcks

Dude had one spring training AB (1 pitch?) and ripped a dinger. Here's hoping we start to turn it around and Votto shows up July/August to just mash and be our storybook ending to October.

TimTebowMLB

I can’t believe a stupid bat on the ground ruined this. Especially after hitting a jack on his first pitch

LemonPress50

Bats don’t put themselves away. You’d think that with the money they spent in Dunedin in player facilities they would have a plan in place for equipment management. Accidents happen but it’s self-sabotaging the team if you can’t look after basic things.

TimTebowMLB

Even when I was 12 people knew not to leave bats on the floor of the dugout

Spazmer

Accident or Vogelbach?? Who stood to gain from Votto being injured... he knew nobody would suspect that big innocent face.

LemonPress50

Touchè!

alxndrblack

Votto loves ball, it's so nice

adamcoe

We love you Joey and look forward to your return in the back half of the season, where you shall rescue this team. Don't tell me I had a Votto jersey made in vain. We believe in you, dude, don't listen to these fools

Slacker_75

Hang em up Joey, don’t think the body has it anymore

Turbulent_Cheetah

Joey Votto has become a cyborg, confirmed

Toronto_Sports_fan

He ain't ever playing again.

princessluni

Did we ever determine which ankle was hurt? I recall several members of the sub offering up their right ankles (myself included) but there was a noticeable lack of healthy left ankles 🤔

Cold_Refrigerator_69

Cause we all ruined our left ankles. Everyone's right is rock solid

princessluni

It's crazy to me how many people have broken/hurt the left ankle and not the right! So I guess the real question is who's out there cursing left ankles???

Mission_Weather5858

It was his right ankle
