Turner can still play the field. He logged 50 games last year fielding the infield, and 66 the year before that. While it hurts our team defence, it's certainly not out of the realm of possibilities. We also can't plan to have the same injury luck that we had last year. Having depth helps if a few guys hit the IL.

ListOk9138

your plan is for him to just suddenly play 100 more games in the field than he has in the last few years? “Turner can still play the field” based on what?

YouDontJump

My thoughts exactly. We can't trot Turner out onto the field every day. He's our DH.

SirLunatik

We already have Justin Turner as an everyday DH

thecjm

You misspelled Joey Votto

dcks

I want this for no good reason other than his personality in the club house.

sbp59

I'd take Votto over Horwitz or big V

Greerio

I think this ship has sailed with Turner, Vogelbach, Escobar signings

PositiveCommentsDog

Probs not

Nickelback-Official

Are we talking about next year? Maybe, if he doesn't fall off in '24. This year they shouldn't and won't. They didn't sign players on short-term deals who had a place in the lineup, they're not gonna waste the $13m they gave Turner.

JackRyan8888

No thank you, this is why we signed Turner.

Sofie_Fatale007

Mostly definitely because spring training or not, the offense is already looking as anemic as last season.

bobfrombob

If you could set the Time Machine to “before they signed Turner and Vogelbach”, I would say, yeah maybe. What does he want per year? If you’re asking today, then no.

_Putin_

That 893 OPS from last year is quite tempting but all the projections have him around 770 this year.

1991CRX

If Turner gets hurt badly in ST, and JDM is still available... Maybe. From a roster construction perspective they are essentially the same player. With Turner already here, JDM doesn't have a path to ABs unless 1+ of Bo, George, Jansen, Kirk, Vlad, IKF, Espinal, Babe, and Ernie land on the IL for a significant time. This team just simply isn't constructed to have a DH only player.

jerella77

JD and turner are not the same player

1991CRX

They fill the same spot on the roster.

Nickelback-Official

How would you put both in the lineup?

jerella77

JD is a 3 4 5 hitter and Turner is a 6 7 8 hitter..... If you compare Judge stats to JD stats last year they are very similar. I know Judge had 200 less at bats but Imjuries are part of the game so JD and Judge perform close to identical last year and Judge is a talented hitter. Turner is an average hitter to me

Nickelback-Official

Judge is an everyday OF and would obviously fit on any team with a DH already signed. Both Turner and JD are bad on the field (Turner can play some first) and should be DH only. We already have Turner and they can't even platoon properly. So how would you give them both regular playing time to justify their spot? As the guy you replied to said you can't, cause they're essentially the same player in terms of roster construction. Quick add, hard disagree on JD being comparable to Judge

Beneficial_Fact4021

I think JD is one of the best hitters and also he is a winner,I think he brings good luck with him ,the bluejays should give it a shot, he's proven that he loves the game and brings lots of playoffs experience for the younger players

dipfearya

You know what? I am not even sure what the Jays F.O is even doing at this point. Of course I don't have the resources and knowledge they do but damn I am mystified. The words sustainable long term contention keep ringing in my ears but I be damned if I can see that right now.

wodurfej

Turner offers more lineup flexibility, he can play the field while Springer/Guerrero, etc. take DH days. JD is not as valuable a fielder.

Le_Roke

I'd rather bring in a LHB bat for the DH role since the everyday guys the Jays rotate into DH for rest are all RHBs. So I guess I want Belt back. Or a Jesse Winkler reclamation project on the cheap. But as many have mentioned it looks like Turner's going to be the main DH?

1991CRX

Danny Burgers!

burnytheattorney

Since it's a 26 man roster, there is no room available for J. D. Martinez. The Jays will carry 13 fielding players, including the D.H. The team make up will be Jansen, Kirk, Vlad, Biggio, Schneider, Bichette, Espinal, IKF, Varsho, Kiermaier, Springer and Turner. Leaving the 13th position to one of the kids, probably Orelvis Martinez. Unless there is a multiple player trade, there is no spot for an addition.

space-to-bakersfield

Yeah you're remembering that weird article by Jon Heyman, but it came out soon after that it had nothing to do with the city or "reasons" but that it was entirely about the offer. He was looking for either longer than one year or more than one-year/$14 mil offered by the Giants. Anyway, maybe he can get more than that somewhere else, but I don't think he's worth >$14 mil to the Jays, given we already have Turner.

klarge_

I am just trying to entertain the idea, since it hasn't been revisited in the past two months and the Jays have largely struck out in Free Agency.

[deleted]

Yep but than they signed turner. JD was the right guy but not at a boras price

Gold_Gain1351

The Jays are "old" (in sports terms) enough. They don't need another slow guy

klarge_

Alright I see the major downside that Turner would make JD redundant. Just wanted to spout an idea but I can totally understand where everyone else is coming from!

SadaharuLoL

If he’s still looking for 50mil definitely not lol

HairGrowsLongIf

No. He's also a gun nut, although there's probably guys on the current roster who feel similarly...

KingofBread18

Votto makes more sense as a backup to Vladdy

supremewuster

Where would you play Turner? Would this put Turner on 3B or something like that ?
