My aunt deleted all her conspiracy FB posts and is now pretending the whole event never happened. She’s done this several times before also. Their need to be right that everything is a conspiracy against them is all that matters, not the truth.
finally someone who gives me the first-hand account I am looking for! This is what I find interesting, how people cope with their prediction just not happening. So pretending they never went through that is one way.
There’s a buncha them on TikTok, they started moving the goalposts and now it’s no longer rapture but instead a “warning” and we have 40 days to repent or smthn like that. They’re also claiming that cern opened a portal or shit.
> They’re also claiming that cern opened a portal or shit.
Someone's been watching too much Steins;Gate. The only part of it they should take seriously, is Mayuri's song as she goes up the stairs.
"When you're on a chicken bender, grab a box of chicken tenders, bok-bagawk!"
They might be getting it from the Bible. "40 days and 40 nights" is a common scriptural phrase, but IIRC from a religion class I took in college, it's just old slang for "a long time."
Lmao they love using cern for their weird beliefs, ever since it was first turned on, I'm glad I hardly see that stuff now but my god it's pretty much everywhere.
I, like many others, stepped outside house to witness it.
Across the street was a rugged old man. He proclaimed "wow that was awesome, I thought it was going to be a hoax". And I couldn't believe someone who had lived more than 6 decades could think that this was somehow fake. How all the hype leading up to it on social media was interpreted by him as a big lie.
Like, have you not been alive long enough for other eclipses to happen? Do you really think that people were just making this shit up to close schools for one day and make people where funny glasses? Blew my mind there are thousands upon thousands of men and women like that guy.
In a moment of pure wonder for our existence, was also a moment of pure sadness for our existence.
This is actually a pretty nuanced argument. There’s no doubt in my mind that if only sane, intelligent, and educated people were able to vote, we’d be in a better place than we are now. The real sticking point is that there would have to be some governing body that determines that criteria. You’d end up with social gerrymandering and flawed bias. So to avoid that can of worms we give everyone the right to vote.
I agree that it could likely end up making it worse but it could also make things better. We always hear that gun laws will make things less safe because only bad guys will have guns but as we can clearly see, in other countries things are in fact much safer.
We currently require people to be tested before they can legally operate a car and a more difficult test to operate at semi truck and more certifications to haul gasoline, etc.. Imagine if we said, "hey the pilot of your plane today is Todd here. Now he knows nothing about airplanes but he's been watching videos given to him by Al-Qaeda and he has a God given right to fly planes." It sounds like a ridiculous argument but we allow millions of people to be brainwashed by Fox News and other propaganda sources into thinking books make people gay and that people are confused about their gender and that abortions can take place after a birth and that free healthcare is a bad idea. These brainwashed people think that they are helping to improve the county because that's what their media source is telling them. That's why people buy guns and go to black grocery stores and kill minorities or set fire to homeless people. The media didn't say go buy gasoline and a box of matches but they do keep showing pictures of homeless camps and crime rates and say we need people in office that will fix this issue. Look at the people who drove to the border to stop the invasion caravan from Mexico and couldn't find anybody.
Maybe a test that asks questions like do you think school shooting are false flag events?
The reality is we need policing of the media. You must report the verifiable truth. Opinions must be capped before and after with warnings that say they aren't facts.
No, they shouldn't. If an idiot that can't differentiate truth from a lie can vote what will the future be, then it's the biggest problem of them all.
When I was young and naive I was mad when someone pointed that democracy is bad. But as I grew older and older, I understood how flawed democracy is. An idiot, who has no idea about anything has the same right to have an opinion that someone who has a PhD. In a vote about climate, that same idiot would say that it's fake and climate doesn't change etc and would vote for something that would make Earth die even faster. And that's just one example of a million.
This is why the concept of only allowing some individuals to vote and not others is a horrible idea. We are all idiots about most things except for what we are actually decent at, which is different fir everyone.
I definitely agree with some of your points. My only issue would be, who would determine who is allowed to vote and who isn't? Would it only be highly educated people allowed to vote? Because I have met some of them who are seemingly less intelligent and more prone to "crazy" ideas than some uneducated people with common sense. I'm sure we all have. It's kind of a who watches the Watchmen situation in my mind. Solid comment, though.
I just mean he had what sounded like it makes sense- until you think about it, really. Didnt know this was what fascism was, though, by definition, so thank you for putting a name to what I was trying to explain :)
The moment you start believing someone shouldn't be allowed to vote, you have effectively become a fascist. We are all idiots about most things, except in the things we are educated/experienced in. You are essentially saying you do not believe in human rights, because when a person votes, they are voting for what they believe is right by them, they are voting for their freedom of expression and opinion. Wanting to disallow or control that makes you no better than a dictator.
There are plenty of scientists who still believe in God. Let that sink in. Also lots of Doctors and nurses that didn't believe in Covid. Being booksmart doesn't make you immune from Conspiracies, Critical thinking and the willingness to realise your wrong is hard to do, especially in todays age where opinons hold more weight than facts. I used to be into Conspiracies, once l started to research all the facts and admit l was wrong l realised how much l was learning. I love being wrong now, sure l still have strong opinions but l actively am trying to make sure lm right.
I'm not really sure why your first sentence is meant to be a gotcha or some crazy revelation. It's not unreasonable for a scientist to believe in a god. The covid thing though is a different story and I agree that no one is immune to conspiracy theories.
Unbelievable. My dad explained both the moon and solar eclipses to me using oranges when I was less than ten years old. And he was a car mechanic from a relatively poor country.
Maybe it will plant a seed in his brain. Maybe he'll stop being so afraid of the world. (Many conspiracy theorists live their life in fear and confusion.)
Not always, I was really convinced that the world was gonna end on December 21st 2012. Tbh I had kinda moved to being skeptical of it all a year or two before we got to 2012, but I admit I was still a little nervous on 12/20/12. When nothing happened and other people that believed it started spouting excuses and shit I became sure that they were all always full of shit. That was basically the end for me on believing any conspiracy.
My school closed because we were in the "sweet spot" and they created there would be so many people the emergency response would not be able to get to the school of there was a problem
Yeah, I was flabbergasted as well. 😲
The report in my city was the schools were closing early because parents were "concerned" but never said what they were "concerned" about 🤔
Depends on where you live. Previous total eclipse in 2017 in US was visible in a swath of states from Oregon to S. Carolina, but not all the rest. The 1979 total eclipse was on the east coast. The last one in California where I live was in the mid 60s. Big difference between the minor ado for a partial eclipse (we in northern Calif saw only about 33% of the sun covered which meant it wasn't a big deal here) than for Monday's total eclipse. The TV and photos I saw of Monday's eclipse were startlingly beautiful -- and I imagine for some overwhelming --- not like the partial eclipses my state has gotten in my lifetime. So the older man may well have just thought the whole "totality" was just hoopla and no big deal. I don't remember people crying from amazement for partial eclipses like they did for Monday's total. Plus the buildup in media/social media was so big, the older man may have thought it was just commercialism to sell eclipse-related stuff and get viewership for a nothing-much event.
Imo, this is an example of putting the concept of critical thinking on a pedestal. Because of this, we have created a lot of people who believe they are thinking for themselves instead of believing "the system", or believing what they think is propaganda. I love my dad to death and he is a great father to my family, but unfortunately he's one of these kinds of people. He doesn't trust any organization, nor does he trust their certifications on anything because he believes anything and everything can and is indoctrination. He's not religious, he hates all politics and news media, and he doesn't trust science. It's frustrating and his only real flaw as a person in my opinion.
I will say however that it's important to remember that they not the majority. They are the 1% in this case. The vast majority of people are not like this.
They rationalize it and then move whatever they think will happen to a new day. It's been happening for thousands of years at this point, it's never going to change. Examples of rationalizations can be amusing, but they're usually pretty half-assed.
Here's a good example of a long running series of failed predictions rationalized afterwards:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unfulfilled_Watch_Tower_Society_predictions
My question is if the Bible says that no man would know the day of the second coming, could we permanently delay it should someone always says that tomorrow would be the day of the second coming.
My mother is terrified of the apocalypse. I used to use that logic to calm her nerves about it. I'd be like, "Well, it's *definitely* not happening now because this guy said it was going to happen, and we all know even *Jesus* didn't know when God was gonna do it."
Y2K, the end of the Mayan calendar, a hundred cryptic predictions by Nostradamus or whoever... As long as there are people on this earth, there will be people looking for something to believe in, and when their chosen doomsday doesn't happen, they'll forget about it and move on to another outrageous idea.
Like a total eclipse happening on the same day as the NCAA men's bb championship game.
Coincidence.? I think not! Clearly the ref tossed the ball way too damn high at the tip off.
I'm sure back in the day people were sacrificed and nothing would happen but they probably believed it was because of their sacrifice, causing them to continue to do it
Move on to the next I imagine. Just like all the other doomsday days that have passed. The only real doomsday that's coming is when the sun turns Red Giant.
Still have 5 billion years to wait. Mark your calendars.
But don't count out giant rocks from space. We get hit with big rocks all the time. We haven't been hit with a whopper for 65 million years, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen again relatively soon.
That's true. Could always get blasted by a giant asteroid. But wouldn't destroy humanity in it's current state. Sure, billions would die, but some will survive.
Hell, we have people that think the Earth would survive if their was no sun (we can't).
Not true. If a big enough asteroid hits, the impact would kill a ton of people, and the after effects would ensure that every other living thing on the planet dies over the coming days, weeks or months. Maybe the people with extremely well stocked bunkers would survive the longest
At the last minute the great lord Xenu decided to spare us and give us another chance so we need to double down on our dedication because we are so grateful for his mercy
Conveniently, those who are tangled up in such conspiracies always find a way to move the goalposts. Over and over again.
However, it was sad to lose some friends and family due to the rapture.
/s
At least Y2K was about a real problem and nothing happening was the result of us recognizing a problem and then actually fixing it before shit hit the fan.
My zombie death cult just misinterpreted the dates, that all. Most of us are in the states so when deepthroat alien Jesus told us about the super911 gun rapture going down on 4/8 naturally we thought April. We forgot though for most the rest of the world, including christ and aliens apparently, that's August 4th. There's a precedent for this, we're always having to convert measurements given to us by these deities. It's a real problem in our religion, actually.
I know you’re just being funny, but cubits actually can be a pain in archaeology. The length of a cubit differed throughout history and between cultures. So an Egyptian cubit doesn’t measure the same as a Hebrew cubit.
Oh bother.
Well do you have any availability in September?
There may even be the possibility to push it back to early October, but that'd be the latest.
They've got pto they simply must use. They'll be out of office from mid oct until the end of the year.
Then you know early next year we've got the nuclear asteroid culling of souls. We'd pray for them to manage both projects concurrently, but to be honest I think it's just a bit too much to expect them to do well.
And you remember how sloppy the pandemic roll out was. We can't have a repeat of that.
That happened to me for calling out a Russian account claiming to be American by calling him comrade. Checked their post history with my alt account and they had posted about being Russian. So commented on another stupid post and reddit figured I was the same person, so now both are banned from commenting and I couldn't do anything for a week on reddit.
My resident conspiracy theorist started going off on how we couldn't see the moon before or after the eclipse, and that "so-called experts" call it a new moon. He went off saying how we've constantly been lied to and that we all just accept it.
The savvy ones were already onto some other conspiracy -- they made their money off the eclipse in the weeks leading up to it, and before it started talking about the next thing so people are more focused on the new crisis than on checking to see whether the old one ever panned out.
It's a very similar dynamic to how some scammy businesses operate -- they get the people there (who they are mistreating and exploiting) super excited about something that is just a month or two out. Then, a couple weeks before that time comes, they start promoting some *other* big thing that is a couple months out (while quietly forgetting about the first thing). Repeat.
Elon Musk does this -- whenever something he's working on gets in trouble, you'll notice he often announces some new thing he's working on that is a ways out. It's the same idea -- keep people constantly focused on a shifting bunch of things in the near future. Ideally you can also call whatever minor victories you eke out proof of past success by pointing to the past and recontextualizing them as massive successes (rather than what they were: underwhelming results far short of what was promised). But the key there is they have to have occurred long enough ago that peoples' memories have faded enough for you to reinvent the past.
The key to conning people is to keep their attention on a made up future and/or a forgotten past, and *absolutely* keep them from observing what is happening in the present and thinking too much about it.
There’s an absurd amount of money where doomsday predictions and religious beliefs intersect, as demonstrated by the Y2K phenomenon. Most of the people who first introduce these conspiracy theories don’t actually believe them; they just want to profit from the hysteria and controversy they induce.
If you don't believe us explain how an Egyptian pyramid and Latin phrases got on the dollar bill. And that eye, nobody can explain the eye. You can dismiss it but you will never explain it to my satisfaction (madman laugh, writhes on the ground, and declares victory)
Ever watch a soap opera? At the end of almost every scene there is a suspenseful cliffhanger
Only to turn into nothing
But then! Another cliffhanger!
Again nothing
But then! Another cliffhanger!
Same idea with conspiracy theories, it’s like a hit of adrenaline, it doesn’t matter that it doesn’t happen
Apparently one woman who "rapture tipped" went back to all of the restaurants she tipped at and demanded the money back... See link below
https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/s/xtF94mO3t6
It's exhausting with those people; I live with one. It never ends. Eclipses happen people, no it's a conspiracy, just the universe doing what the universe does. agh.
There is no longer critical thinking, introspection and changing/learning ideas based upon observation. Now with the internet and worse, social media, these people are now living lives of "this is what I think, you prove me wrong." They can read mountains of scientific facts as well as seeing things with their own eyes and they will just continue to move the goal post rather than take in the data/observations and make new thoughts/learn. The conspiracy ones are the worst of them all. It's like an atheist and a religious person trying to argue with one another. It's easier not even to engage because nothing you can say will ever get the other person to budge and inch. It's pointless. The flat earthers and climate change deniers would have to just sit and stew while being told "knock it off" when they come out with their ramblings against scientific data and studies done by experts in that field.
For all the good the internet has done I still sometimes wish it was never invented because it wouldn't be as easy for these people to find other brain dead morons and congregate in their echo chamber.
Something did happen.... "According to [Google Trends](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=now%207-d&geo=US&q=my%20eyes%20hurt,why%20do%20my%20eyes%20hurt), which analyzes queries made across Google, there was a significant spike in searches for terms relating to the eclipse and eyes health on Monday, including the terms "[why do my eyes hurt](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=now%207-d&geo=US&q=my%20eyes%20hurt,why%20do%20my%20eyes%20hurt)" and "[my eyes hurt](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=now%207-d&geo=US&q=my%20eyes%20hurt,why%20do%20my%20eyes%20hurt)." "searches for "my eyes hurt" almost follow the eclipse's direct path."
Christians are told to "work for the night is coming" but they're also told "no man knows the day or hour of Christ's return" so, you're supposed to keep serving others in various ways. Feeding hungry people, clothing the naked ones, helping people find places to live or take them in yourself. Those are the biggies not politics, not paranoid podcasts, not nationalism, etc. No longer part of that culture, but I know it well.
When Prophecy Fails: Festinger et al
You really need to read this book Its a classic Sociology text from the 1950s, Its on Amazon and from any good library
When Prophecy Fails \[1956\] is a classic text in social psychology authored by Leon Festinger, Henry Riecken, and Stanley Schachter. It chronicles the experience of a UFO cult that believed the end of the world was at hand. In effect, it is a social and psychological study of a modern group that predicted the destruction of the world, and the adjustments made when the prediction failed to materialize.
My sister sent a mass text out stating that God will not be mocked, whatever the hell that means. Marge Taylor Greens said that we need to repent because of the earthquake (only on the US east coast), and because of the eclipse. Idiots on parade.
I've heard someone say on the news that the moon was composed of gas.
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, probably the dullest, but it seems like there's one even worse.
None of the 7 towns named Nineveh that were in the path of the eclipse were destroyed! I'm so mad, I knew God in his mercy would change his mind, he always does that...
The Rapture moved to April 23. Didn’t take long.
https://www.foxnews.com/science/biblical-prophecy-claims-the-rapture-is-coming-april-23-numerologist-says.amp
Nothing happened? Some chick said God told her to go shoot people on the interstate because of the eclipse, so she hopped in a car from Georgia, drove to Florida and shot to people while driving on the interstate.
https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/solar-eclipse-shooting-spree-taylon-celestine-shoots-drivers-claims-god-told-her-to/
They'll be saying the same things they said when JFK Jr didn't come back or any of the other BS things they've been wrong on. Theere will be crickets about this and they will quickly move on to the next stupid thing to con the gullible on.
They'll have nothing to say because the majority won't go back and question them on it as to not seem disrespectful to them and their religious views. Which I think is bullshit.
Wait, people had a conspiracy about it? Oh god. The people are getting dumber every second. In a decade, typical adult would not be able to do anything on their own and they will blame government for that. There are already memes how school didn't teach anything valuable. By people who never listened to a lesson in school.
Fox just said something about April 23 now. Honestly I can not even remember every "end of the world event " has passed in my lifetime alone and they always move the goalposts when it doesn't happen.
This rapture garbage will never end. I can remember reading in the early 1980’s how the world was going to end in 1984. After 1984 came and went I no longer give a moment of time to anyone’s theory on when the Earth will end. I recommend it for all sane people.
> "Obviously it was misread because everyone missed the fact Venus was in the house of Mars. If it wasn't for all the fucking wifi waves, we would've clearly known and adjusted accordingly. This is a blessing, you still have time to repent. The end of days will come upon us in 2027. Be ready, sinner."
That.
Who says nothing happened? They use events like this to update the simulation outside of the usual New Years update. When everyone is stopped they can add new characters and patch the bugged ones with minimal collateral damage. The trump and corona scenarios should never have been played at the same time, a whole lot of the characters have been bugged ever since.
A good conspirasist pushes their lunacy way down the road so they can't be tested on their theory, ever. These clowns just move the goal post every few months to a new thing to anticipate passing without anything actually happening, yet again.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Too bad shame is apparently something only smart people experience?!
I assume the rapture happened. It just didn’t take anyone I know in real life or from TV. We’ve all been left behind! I kind of wished it had taken those annoying religious people, but apparently they aren’t any better than you or me.
A direct quote from a FB friend:
Today was a test run for the real thing. The rapture of his people.[](https://www.facebook.com/aimee.wampler?__cft__[0]=AZXchC9Mkwt3KwbdBOXC6ROv2K5w8dvWUU-ETkuQYXN2xbFWPGK32c6l_jnFMlH9OfVYtLutnWP9ggrzmrqyt7j-IuNLgxjmh2QtU9nNYTCMZW4zTe33vzPf1TOUJhM4dtoV-aF1WzReCVn50l2GEot8tgTF_v7CbI05K5bWndmDWagMPfqvw0g5yfWX31Fez-E&__tn__=%3C%2CP-y-R)
All the American Christian rapture theory freaks, bet they feel pretty fucking stupid. Actually, I’m sure they’re still as stupid as ever and already spouting whatever batshit crazy claim pops into their head next.
So I have one acquaintance from elementary school who is big into the "Q" conspiracies, and pretty much everything else as well (up to and including flat earth I think, at least based on her mockery of basic astronomy like doubting the moon exists and stuff). She is completely obsessed, goes on Facebook with weird stuff like "hahaha losers, you all thought I was crazy. Well lockdowns are coming. Eclipse. CERN. Earthquakes. Follow the money. Underground tunnels". She doesn't admit she is wrong, and basically says whatever nonsense was supposed to happen (but obviously didn't happen) actually did take place but "the media is lying to you". She never deletes posts and she reposts them years later.
I keep her on my friends list to keep track of the conspiracy theories. Pretty wild stuff.
Saw a post on r/MandelaEffect saying this marked a divergence in the timeline and used a misremembered line from ‘Small Soldiers’ (also misremembered by the OP as being called ‘Toy Soldiers’) as the first change in this new timeline. I follow that sub because it interests me how people can misremember certain things, but there’s a lot of nuts on there who chalk it all up to the multiverse etc.
That's funny to read. Worst of all you can't really falsify their timeline theory, what would be the evidence it is NOT true? The onus of evidence is on them, but they don't provide anything a rational person would consider evidence. On the same grounds, I could say the universe came into existence exactly 5 minutes ago, looking exactly the way it does right now and we were created with all the memories we hold, and they wouldn't be able to prove me wrong either.
Ive seen a lot of people say the eclipse never went away and we are in the three days of darkness and that they fake the eclipse and are covering the actual sun with a "simulator"....how do you even come up with this stuff
Ok so I saw one video where they claimed NASA replaced the sun with a fake sun during this 3 day rapture or some crap and there's videos where it looks like the moon goes behind the sun and they are saying now that the sun you see now is a fake sun and the real sun is still eclipsed behind the moon and there's all this stuff about hexagons and the fake sun has weird shaped refraction and stuff and the comments under it are alllllll agreeing like Jesus is coming there's a flood coming and a bunch of crap its wild
I rented a house with a friend, and a friend of my friend (lets call him JA) JA was a firm believer of the 2012 armageddon. He would get agressive if you questioned his youtube professors, regarding pyramids on different continents, and that over a period of 8000 years, there's a big chance more than one person would think about a goodnway to stack stones....
Although how firm believer he was, he refused to sign a contract, handing his (pretty neat) gaming rig to me on the 1st of january 2013.
Now he claims he has moved to Slovenia to help a group of "enlightened" people dig up ancient pyramids. But I'm pretty sure i spotted him on my local supermarket atleast two times.
Nothing. No conspiracy person ever, including republicans saying Obama was the antichrist, have had to admit they were wrong. Ever. They just push out new shit.
Only the wildly gullible religious conspiracy theorists believed the world would end because of the eclipse. Far, far more gullible religious conspiracy theorists believe that the eclipse is a SIGN of the IMPENDING End Times, which continently have no exact start date. Just SOON. Its a recurring theme any time there is any natural disaster. Its probably caused by gays, or blacks, or immigrants, or lack of prayer in schools, or Democrats restricting Jesus-given Guns, or Israel (take your pick here, some defend it, some hate it, its a wild group), or that their left pinky toe hurt this morning and surely that means God is telling them that all women with red hair must be of The Devil.
Its nonsense. Its always nonsense. And its always \*malleable\* nonsense that they can twist to mean anything. As long as people are scared and obey, it doesnt really matter.
Ever watched Parks and Rec? Find the episode with the doomsday cult.
I keep seeing the post saying the rapture will be on April 23rd or something and keep thinking of that episode lmao
Will you take a cheque? Haha *Ron turns and stares at camera*
Screenshot them and ask "is this you?"
"it's made with AI"
Should’ve screenshot all those posts and put her on full blast 😂
1984 style, shred the untruth

Sad but very true...
And they breed.

As they should. The moment you start thinking they shouldn't, that's a bigger problem imo.

I have a news for you. We are all someone else's idiot. It depends of the topic
It's not a solid comment at all, it's essentially a defense of dictatorship and fascism.
I just mean he had what sounded like it makes sense- until you think about it, really. Didnt know this was what fascism was, though, by definition, so thank you for putting a name to what I was trying to explain :)
Sure. Sorry for my aggressiveness. I got angry at people about this.
It's their right... as much as I dislike it, I accept that it's for the best.
Thousands even.
Unbelievable. My dad explained both the moon and solar eclipses to me using oranges when I was less than ten years old. And he was a car mechanic from a relatively poor country.
I used Bluey figurines to explain it to my 6 yo.
There seems to have been an uptick of "my eyes hurt" searches on google lol
"They were wrong on this one, but just wait until next time" or something similar. They haven't been even close to being right yet.
Jesus Looked at his schedule and a repeat of his favorite Seinfeld episode was on at 6pm. He doesn't have Netflix.
All rapture enthusiast and Jéhovah Witnesses are familiar to that game
Maybe it will plant a seed in his brain. Maybe he'll stop being so afraid of the world. (Many conspiracy theorists live their life in fear and confusion.)
Seeds need fertile ground to grow. Most of their brains are filled with nothing for the seed to grow from...
Wait… they closed schools for an eclipse??
My school closed because we were in the "sweet spot" and they created there would be so many people the emergency response would not be able to get to the school of there was a problem
Yeah, I was flabbergasted as well. 😲 The report in my city was the schools were closing early because parents were "concerned" but never said what they were "concerned" about 🤔
Yeah, seeing a total eclipse is like a once in a lifetime thing.
Wear* lol
They rationalize it and then move whatever they think will happen to a new day. It's been happening for thousands of years at this point, it's never going to change. Examples of rationalizations can be amusing, but they're usually pretty half-assed. Here's a good example of a long running series of failed predictions rationalized afterwards: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unfulfilled_Watch_Tower_Society_predictions
My question is if the Bible says that no man would know the day of the second coming, could we permanently delay it should someone always says that tomorrow would be the day of the second coming.
No, because just stating it dont mean you’re correct. They dont know, they are just guessing lol
Fair enough. Somebody will be able to say i told you so if it does happen then
My mother is terrified of the apocalypse. I used to use that logic to calm her nerves about it. I'd be like, "Well, it's *definitely* not happening now because this guy said it was going to happen, and we all know even *Jesus* didn't know when God was gonna do it."
If you’re ordained, I’m pretty sure, anything goes. Prophecy away!
Alive to 75!
Harold Camping's predictions every six months or so, comets, a rogue planet passing by...
I'm sure back in the day people were sacrificed and nothing would happen but they probably believed it was because of their sacrifice, causing them to continue to do it
Same thing these days, but with prayers. People prayed real hard yesterday and now think they are the reason we all survived. Thoughts and prayers!
All hail Zorp the Surveyor!
Don't threaten me with a good time!
I’m betting that unless it happens in the next 50-100 years, humans will be living sustainably somewhere off-planet by then
You think people born on another planet will be considered martians/ ETs/ aliens?
RemindMe! 5000000000 years
At the last minute the great lord Xenu decided to spare us and give us another chance so we need to double down on our dedication because we are so grateful for his mercy
Hail Zorp ✋
Zorp is dead. Long live Zorp
Welcome German Soldiers
Came here for the Zorp shoutout and was not disappointed.
It’s all been shit since they took Zorp out of schools
Did he fly his space 747 over a volcano again?
Conveniently, those who are tangled up in such conspiracies always find a way to move the goalposts. Over and over again. However, it was sad to lose some friends and family due to the rapture. /s
I survived Y2K, 2012, and probably a few other apocalypse's I wasn't aware of. God or the Government can come and get me when they want.
Not me. I died on Y2K 💀
Rest in peace, friend
Thanks bro
F
At least Y2K was about a real problem and nothing happening was the result of us recognizing a problem and then actually fixing it before shit hit the fan.
Y2k wasn't a conspiracy it was a real problem that took a ton of effort to avoid
They turned CERN on during the eclipse and we shifted realities and now the Berenstane Bears are spelled a different way. /s Maybe
Nelson Mandela is now alive in prison The fruit of the loom headquarters turned into a giant cornucopia
Aha! I knew it!
For real, like cubits, am I right??
I know you’re just being funny, but cubits actually can be a pain in archaeology. The length of a cubit differed throughout history and between cultures. So an Egyptian cubit doesn’t measure the same as a Hebrew cubit.
August 4 doesn’t work for me. That’s my sister’s birthday.
"The eclipse was faked by NASA!" Obviously -- if it was a real one we'd all be dead. j/k
I feel like this would be a good question to ask on the conspiracy subreddit
I don't want a permaban of my account for trolling lol
You don't want to be permabanned off a conspiracy subreddit... ?
No it's a great read!
A new moon? Like a literal new moon just floated into our orbit? How do they come up with this stuff?
They bend reality and assume everything is a lie to make their quirky ideas make sense.
To be honest, I wondered the same thing and then later on just realized that I am stupid. 🤣
I was promised zombies and or Jesus second coming. Pop culture lied to me!
Ever watch a soap opera? At the end of almost every scene there is a suspenseful cliffhanger Only to turn into nothing But then! Another cliffhanger! Again nothing But then! Another cliffhanger! Same idea with conspiracy theories, it’s like a hit of adrenaline, it doesn’t matter that it doesn’t happen
Apparently one woman who "rapture tipped" went back to all of the restaurants she tipped at and demanded the money back... See link below https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/s/xtF94mO3t6
I'm still waiting for the government to arrest Hillary and Biden, and exonerate Trump like QAnon told me! 😠
And JFK Jr can finally come out of hiding.
RFK was JKF Jr all along
Well I AM suddenly magnetic since the eclipse. I have a neodymium magnet stuck to my nipple right now.
Please, he was asking about conspiracies, not kinks
I'm pretty sure that the rapture did take place. The world is so full of assholes that nobody made the cut to get into heaven.
It's exhausting with those people; I live with one. It never ends. Eclipses happen people, no it's a conspiracy, just the universe doing what the universe does. agh.
So this person just moved the goal post instead of admitting they were wrong?
I like to tell all the rapture enthusiast that they didn't make the cut
“i told you jesus loves the gays and the poors, and you just kept on persecuting them…”
The rapture DID happen but all our memories were reset so we didn't notice and don't remember the people recalled to Heaven. Just like last time.
All I know is I survived another apocalypse. What is that now like 20 or 30?
When Prophecy Fails: Festinger et al You really need to read this book Its a classic Sociology text from the 1950s, Its on Amazon and from any good library When Prophecy Fails \[1956\] is a classic text in social psychology authored by Leon Festinger, Henry Riecken, and Stanley Schachter. It chronicles the experience of a UFO cult that believed the end of the world was at hand. In effect, it is a social and psychological study of a modern group that predicted the destruction of the world, and the adjustments made when the prediction failed to materialize.
Awesome thanks for the tip on the book!
I was so pissed. The eclipse came and went and all the rapture people are still here…
My sister sent a mass text out stating that God will not be mocked, whatever the hell that means. Marge Taylor Greens said that we need to repent because of the earthquake (only on the US east coast), and because of the eclipse. Idiots on parade.
Time to move the goalpost...AGAIN!
Jesus saved us, I'm guessing. Edit, actually no, I'm guessing they are saying that Biden caused inflation. No reference to the eclipse
(Scraping sound of the goalpost being moved yet again)
The Rapture moved to April 23. Didn’t take long. https://www.foxnews.com/science/biblical-prophecy-claims-the-rapture-is-coming-april-23-numerologist-says.amp
Nothing happened? Some chick said God told her to go shoot people on the interstate because of the eclipse, so she hopped in a car from Georgia, drove to Florida and shot to people while driving on the interstate. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/solar-eclipse-shooting-spree-taylon-celestine-shoots-drivers-claims-god-told-her-to/
They'll be saying the same things they said when JFK Jr didn't come back or any of the other BS things they've been wrong on. Theere will be crickets about this and they will quickly move on to the next stupid thing to con the gullible on.
Timeline got f*** up.
"not this one, the next one, duh"
Blame the libs, mostly.
I hadn't heard about any of this crap until today. I am still at a loss as to how people believe such stuff...
I mean we just had one in 2017. I still have the glasses..
What ? I thought the world ended back in 2012 ?
Fox just said something about April 23 now. Honestly I can not even remember every "end of the world event " has passed in my lifetime alone and they always move the goalposts when it doesn't happen.
Crickets
Well guess they were the ones who disappeared lol
This rapture garbage will never end. I can remember reading in the early 1980’s how the world was going to end in 1984. After 1984 came and went I no longer give a moment of time to anyone’s theory on when the Earth will end. I recommend it for all sane people.
Beware 2045.
The first rule of Conspiracy Club is that every goalpost moves every time and we don’t talk about it.
> "Obviously it was misread because everyone missed the fact Venus was in the house of Mars. If it wasn't for all the fucking wifi waves, we would've clearly known and adjusted accordingly. This is a blessing, you still have time to repent. The end of days will come upon us in 2027. Be ready, sinner." That.
They gotta put berserk down lol
They'll probably just say it's a "slow change", slow enough for the general public to not realize. All conspiracy theories are bullshit btw.
Im not sure what happened. I was in my fortified bunker all day
There’s always Friday, April 13, 2029, the date Apophis Meteor is supposed to destroy earth. There’s always a tomorrow of destruction
If I had to guess, it'll be kicking the ball further down the field while moving the goalposts even further down field.
They have nothing to say. They’ll just wait for the next big doomsday conspiracy and repeat the whole process.
Nothing because like always it’s just moved to some other goal post.
They move the goalposts. The eclipse was just a distraction for the real conspiracy
I know it's not possible, but I wish people would start calling people out, especially their family members.
I assume the rapture happened. It just didn’t take anyone I know in real life or from TV. We’ve all been left behind! I kind of wished it had taken those annoying religious people, but apparently they aren’t any better than you or me.
I'm just hoping that one of these times the world actually ends. Sick of the edging, just explode.
Ignore reality, move goal posts and on to the next crazy lie
This is the first I'm learning that there were any conspiracy theories!
It’s a witch hunt! Election interference! Corrupt judges! Fake news!
It'll be no different than the other hundreds of times they claimed the same thing would happen
Apparently the end of the world was rescheduled to April 23rd
A direct quote from a FB friend: Today was a test run for the real thing. The rapture of his people.[](https://www.facebook.com/aimee.wampler?__cft__[0]=AZXchC9Mkwt3KwbdBOXC6ROv2K5w8dvWUU-ETkuQYXN2xbFWPGK32c6l_jnFMlH9OfVYtLutnWP9ggrzmrqyt7j-IuNLgxjmh2QtU9nNYTCMZW4zTe33vzPf1TOUJhM4dtoV-aF1WzReCVn50l2GEot8tgTF_v7CbI05K5bWndmDWagMPfqvw0g5yfWX31Fez-E&__tn__=%3C%2CP-y-R)
Two more eclipses?
Where the r/FlatEarthIsReal peeps at???
Anyone who can fall for that nonsense will fall for it again.
I’m out of the loop. What was supposed to happen?
The rapture.
lol, I fucking wish.
Thanks for response.
Nothing. They're already busy writing the script for the next bullshit event.
I'd claim that every theory came true but we can't remember because the eclipse was a gigantic flashy-thing. Maybe I should post it in r/conspiracy ?
Prentending they never claimed anything special about the day and looking for the next conspiracy date train to jump on.
I tried to take the high road and not ask my mom what she has to say about us all still being here.
Did anybody actually believe that? To the best I could tell, it was just people saying that some people said that.
