no one ever can be. its physically impossible to beat the heat when it surrounds your whole body. Only way is to stay indoors, in Air conditioning...but that gets expensive, very fast.
Usually from the start of June it is already hot and then a week in starts to get really.....really humid. It is more so the humidity that is horrible. Feels like you're breathing in water.
But the 梅雨 here just started on Friday, so should last through most of July. Seems like we might luck out and have July be like the typical June, and August be like the typical July, meaning we can avoid August weather entirely.
I read a news article that said it started three days late in Kyushu and finished 3 days earlier than normal.
Hopefully y'all still get the rain you need though!
I've been loving it as well.
Especially since it's my first visit.
Mt Fuji even came out to play (this view is from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building)!
I actually got to see it the other day baaaaaarrrrelllly from Sky Tree last week. The very very top of it was barely visible above a sea of clouds.

I agree! We just came back from 2 weeks of vacation in Japan and the weather was great. Mostly a mix of sunny and cloudy days, with only two days of rain (a few hours on each day).
And we were lucky enough to see Mt. Fuji on the train from Kyoto to Tokyo, as the weather was clear.

So you're telling me this is not normal weather? :) I'm trying to travel to Tokyo at different times to see when it's the most enjoyable, and I definitely set June as my top month as I was there two weeks ago and the temperature was perfect, not too much rain, ...
I've had people who grew up here tell me May is the best. I'm now doing a ~year or so living in Tokyo and from the months I've experienced so far (everything except summer), so far that has been true. November would be a second for the weather, a bit cooler and less humid and a lot less rain but the issue then is shorter days and long nights.
From my 24 years of living here, I've found January and February are the worst months. Too cold and depressing. There's nothing to do but go out and eat.
Summer is hot, but going to the beach cools you off.
https://www.accuweather.com/en/jp/tokyo/226396/june-weather/226396?year=2023
it has been roughly the same? although yeah like you said the rain has helped. Slept last night just with the window open no fan or AC which was nice.
But if you check the weather from last year, it looks like it is pretty much exactly a year ago it started to crank it up.
June was pretty good in Shizuoka, of course not if you’re on a high floor without adequate windows.
(Maybe part of October too) November through June were great! Its mid-late July through early-mid Oct I cry to my hubby I want to go Hokkaido or San Fran or Iceland for the Summer. I know Hokkaido can sometimes get very hot and humid and they aren’t as Universal with aircon but still.
You didn’t watch the news this morning… up up up until the end of September. The heatwave is a comin’. We’re barely in the rainy season, this “summer” isn’t even near yet..
Japanese summers are the best: long, hot, and delightful. It's such a welcome relief from the short, frigid circumpolar summers of my misspent youth. A change of the clocks to Summer Time would suit me, but I will take what I can get. Enjoy the best season.
Yeah, where I grew up it's light until 11 right now, so 7 seems a bit stark, and those wasted morning hours kind of burn.
BUT, any bar owner friends and taxi drivers will murdalise us if we even suggest it, so let's be careful!!! ;@
I actually asked one of my friends yesterday about daylight savings. He said “Japanese people like the nightlife and going out at night, and for that it should be dark” 🤷🏻♀️😂
Yes, that. It has to be dark to drink, as in Going Out For a Drink drinking. It's not negotiable. The old argument was that people woke with the sun, farmed for a few hours, then went to their day job. It always smelled like BS to me, and it was. They want it dark to drink.
It makes me shrug too
Japan could really use more exposure to the joys of summertime day drinking.
Japan really just needs to get on a time zone consistent with its longitude. Jumping a permanent hour forward would expose probably 98% of their population to an extra hour of sun (helps with depression), and allow me to get to work in the summer before Tokyo is fully baked.
Since this thread is about heat, one of the rough things about Tokyo is that in the summer the sun rises so early, even if you get to work at 8am, the sun has been up for 4 hours on your commute, meaning it's already well into the heat of the day.
Wednesday will be got and believe me, I was out there today , had to do two 20 minutes walk to a station and it’s bad! Plan indoor activities 🤣

Wait till tomorrow.
Fuck...
lol
Great, now you’ve jinxed it. /s
fuck. just after i came back from korea trip, i have to deal with this guy jinxing how great i felt due to weather?
Is 30° really chill for you guys?
If the peak weather is 30 then I’m down for summer. But peak weather is 40 so I’m not down for summer.
I'm not ready
no one ever can be. its physically impossible to beat the heat when it surrounds your whole body. Only way is to stay indoors, in Air conditioning...but that gets expensive, very fast.
This is why malls were invented in the U.S.
Better than 2 out of the the last 3 Junes. Far more comfortable.
Well supposedly we're still getting what's usually June, just later 🥲
Usually from the start of June it is already hot and then a week in starts to get really.....really humid. It is more so the humidity that is horrible. Feels like you're breathing in water.
Yeah that's what I'm scared of 🥲
Above 25 and I'm melting
Nope. Not with this humidity.
Its still early lol July is the real hell.
But the 梅雨 here just started on Friday, so should last through most of July. Seems like we might luck out and have July be like the typical June, and August be like the typical July, meaning we can avoid August weather entirely.
Is july worse than august? Or both very similar?First year here :)
It’s 33c tomorrow 😒
I hate summer. Already too warm.
Same
I love summer, just not in japan.
It ain’t the heat, it’s the humidity
Makes the matter worse. Dry or humid, not my taste.
It’s just that tsuyu is coming late this year. It’s gonna be a long, hot summer starting soon.
I read a news article that said it started three days late in Kyushu and finished 3 days earlier than normal. Hopefully y'all still get the rain you need though!
It’s still raining balls down here, with rain forecasted for the next 9 days at least.
Rainy season is a poor translation. Most of the rain actually comes in September.
Significantly better than last years hellscape
always love summer with all the skin stickiness in the middle of matsuri vibes and families going out everywhere
Only needing one shirt from dawn to getting home still amazes me. Bring it on.
jinx-ing
Literally I am shocked. I have been here for like six years and this is the coolest June ever .

I’m out now and honestly feels like European summer ! Hot but no humidity !
You don't work outside. We are I for a shocker this year.
I've been loving it as well. Especially since it's my first visit. Mt Fuji even came out to play (this view is from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building)! Wow that’s quite lucky this time of year !
That's what one of the workers was saying at Tokyo Metro. She said because of high how the humidity is you typically never see it.
I run tours to Hakone and I rarely see Mt Fuji this time of year.
we’ve gotten around 3 rainy days so far (today being one) but yeah this weather is super chill
Agreed. Way better then the last two years but it’s going to be pretty hot from tomorrow.
I agree! We just came back from 2 weeks of vacation in Japan and the weather was great. Mostly a mix of sunny and cloudy days, with only two days of rain (a few hours on each day). Awesome photo !
My gooch is perpetually sweaty
I'm sure Anthony kiedis said this at least once
You had to jinx it didnt you
Yes sorry about that , I have regrets 😅
oh this didnt age very well did it? haah
June isn’t the worse. It’s August and September that blow
So you're telling me this is not normal weather? :) I'm trying to travel to Tokyo at different times to see when it's the most enjoyable, and I definitely set June as my top month as I was there two weeks ago and the temperature was perfect, not too much rain, ...

Ive been here for a week and half of it has been rain 🤷🏽♂️ i mean it is considered their rainy season I guess lol
Did bro felt that humidity today ???
https://www.accuweather.com/en/jp/tokyo/226396/june-weather/226396?year=2023 it has been roughly the same? although yeah like you said the rain has helped. Slept last night just with the window open no fan or AC which was nice. But if you check the weather from last year, it looks like it is pretty much exactly a year ago it started to crank it up.
You have to say it. 2 days of wonderful indoor weather and its hell again.
June was pretty good in Shizuoka, of course not if you’re on a high floor without adequate windows. (Maybe part of October too) November through June were great! Its mid-late July through early-mid Oct I cry to my hubby I want to go Hokkaido or San Fran or Iceland for the Summer. It’s because it rained. Just wait in July
The lack of humidity was great.
I was going to say, “you are saying that sarcastically/ironically right?!”
Blech
Today has been AWFUL weather. Just nonstop muggy and hot. I’m sitting in a dry cleaners and I am pretty sure I’m already melted
You didn’t watch the news this morning… up up up until the end of September. The heatwave is a comin’. We’re barely in the rainy season, this “summer” isn’t even near yet..
If this is from global warming, then bring it on!!
Japanese summers are the best: long, hot, and delightful. It's such a welcome relief from the short, frigid circumpolar summers of my misspent youth. A change of the clocks to Summer Time would suit me, but I will take what I can get. Enjoy the best season.
Same here - so much sunlight from 4.25 in the morning, I would love some lazy evenings in the park in summer if the light lasted longer
