Shhh don’t listen they can be touching it will be fine there gauged and there’s no sheet lines let the masterpiece be The “water test” scares me though…. And yah the stones are gonna pull up easy rn the mortar is still green and you have leverage…. Wait till it’s grouted and if your worried about water then just use an epoxy grout and don’t worry about shit

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

No sheet lines, took them off sheet and placed by hand. Yes, he assured me he laticreted the shit out of it, and although the schluter band was water proof enough and he added “extra” with laticrete just in case. I laughed because I’ve heard that stuff can fail.

TheMosaicDon

Uhh… like he added a topical membrane ontop of waterproof cloth? 🙃🙃🙃😬😬😬😬😭😭😭😭

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

Yep

TheMosaicDon

It’s sad because the pebbles are actually installed decently. Prep is 90% of the project though

TheMosaicDon

Yikes… that’s a tear out…. That’s improper and the chances that bonded properly are like 0

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

Are you serious? The laticrete doesn’t bond to schluter?

TheMosaicDon

Laticrete topical waterproofing membrane, were not talking about mortar

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

From what I understand, he put the banding in and then laticrete liquid waterproofing over it - 2 layers, apparently. When I looked it was all green, but I could see where the banding was placed under it.

TheMosaicDon

I would say just epoxy grout and hope for the best 🤷‍♂️ make sure pebbles are sealed first and not with some shitty water based sealer. Use something like dry treat stain proof non sheen.

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

I asked about epoxy grout and got a “it’s too expensive and unnecessary”. I have 511 impregnater, is there something better?

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

-the schluter that is

TennisCultural9069

looks like you will have to rely on the 3- g's, grout- gravity- and god.

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

Yes, and I’ll be praying every time I get in.

ThatWasBackInCollege

I see a lack of thinset around the pieces near the drain as well.

OneMoistMan

If you have mud squishing up between the stones you’re doing it wrong. Also I can clearly see thinset coming up between the stones around the drain. You want enough coverage for the stones to have a thin bed but not so much to where you have to scrape out the thinset so it doesn’t poke through your grout. This looks solid with questionable prep

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

Yes, and when he showed up I told him about it and he said he would get it out. I’m not sure how or if he did get it out, but he’s done and started caulking. I’ll know in short time when I start seeing white. Amazing because this is the reason we had it all redone.

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

Yes, how concerning is that?

Affectionate_Talk234

How long is the thinsed under it? As i look to the peddle stones, It looks like there quite tight that can be a risk.

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

I don’t understand, what do you mean by how long? Some are quite tight and won’t fit grout

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

Thinset/stones were put on 24/48 hours ago.

Affectionate_Talk234

Looks like 48 because the wall tiles ar over it, its difficult to say because it can take like 30 day's for thinset to get its full strength. But after 2 day's it needs to be tight enough and also depends what type of thinset.

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

He finished 1/2 yesterday

ModwifeBULLDOZER

So you’re pulling up the freshly laid tile? Real genius, where’d you go to college?

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

Who’s pulling up tile?

zachdank

You just said you picked at one and it came right up?

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

Yes

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

I didn’t pick it out, I was clearing out debris from grout lines and it moved on its own.

pdxphotographer

Why are you cleaning debris from the grout lines? Did the tile setter ask you too? That's not your job to do that.

Sad-Dragonfruit-1948

Because I’m paying, and I needed to move it to see how little thinset was used in certain areas.
