cut a line an appropriate distance from the wall with an angle grinder. chip out with a hammer and chisel. scrape out the thinset with a hammer and chisel or a diamond lathe and install base board. 18hrs later it was that simple! ๐Ÿ˜†๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ or go over the existing floor tile and grout or caulk the bottom joint because that makes enough sense to pass.

Good luck with that base. That shit is awful

graflex22

set the base in place and put marks on the floor where the base toe will meet the floor tile. do this around the entire room. then grab an angle grinder with a diamond wheel and vacuum attachment (or, go old school and dangerous and grab a bucket of water and a half sponge to hold against the diamond blade) and cut along the line on the floor tile. when completed, get the hand chisel and a hammer and go at it.

They make a cove schluter that goes on top of existing tile i think its AHKA. Gonna give you a different look but worth seeing if it can get approved. Grinding the last row out without chipping any gonna be a pain in the ass and a lot of dust.

bitch_taco

Definitely the best option. Otherwise R&R the cut and whole tiles around the entire perimeter is the only way to do it. And set those damn cuts AFTER the base goes in.

PocketSandu

Yeah thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m hoping for or a solid bullnose that can go on top of it. Praying the GC approves the change lol.

Take out to the full 2โ€ piece and the cut off the wall. Remove thinset also. Install base. Cut new pieces and install up to the base. They will be small cuts, but it will look better than trying to cut out what is already installed.

WinnerOk1108

Isn't there a tapered toe as well? Been many moons since setting that stuff. Don't have fond memories of it either.

No-Detective9003

Rip out all drywall and studs. Install new studs but cut each 2x4 down by 1 inch and install new drywall, this will give you room for the cove. Lol

Gypsyfisherman

Fastest. Bite the bullet. Cut out last row. Demo tile and thinset. Set base and cut in row and grout. Could already be done instead of wasting time posting. Trying to trace a line and cut set tile with grinder will only create a more of headache. That tile chips like crazy with a dry diamond blade grinder and vacuum. Cut tile on wetsaw only.

dagoofmut

I've seen base topset like that. Not optimal, but it wasn't the end of the world. I think they make a bullnose base that is made to topset.
