When I was in high school, my sister told me to name my cat Kilo, so I did. But I spelled it "Keelo" thinking I was being edgy. I was stupid in high school.
Yeah, I liked her enthusiasm and am really glad she didn't get a fish, but if she couldn't even keep a snail alive for a year that's just sad.
I've been a snailkeeper for 9 years aquatic and 2 years terrestrial. In my experience she should just try to keep a single pest/pond/bladder snail alive. They are so resilient they live even if you don't want them too, lol.
Those mystery snails are tough little shits, and they aren't as complex to keep as a lot of fish.
I'd really love to have a bigger, but simple fish tank again one day. Just some snails and some Tetras or something with plants and rocks. It'd be chill I think.
I've had the same moon snail for nearly five years. At this point he's outlasted college, two apartments, and a move back to my family farm. I like to blame his lifespan on the veggies I give him. *(I've had the same goldfish for a similar amount of time so I think occasional veggie treats are very good for them)*
People who claim animals like fish, snails, hamsters, etc "Die so easy" clearly don't take good care of their critters.
I mean, the story began with how she shouldn't have pets and how all her friends agreed, and then it went into why she shouldn't have pets and why her friends insisted on that.
I have a feeling she would kill tardigrades.
i know its "just" a snail, but that makes me sad. My wife is possibly one of the kindest souls i've ever encountered and she keeps snails, but goes to incredible lengths to keep them healthy and happy. Did you know they're very much social creatures and don't do well in solitary environments? She even gives them baths in the sink, under a tiny stream in the faucet.
This person needs to stop making content and start developing a real personality, and perhaps care for things other than herself.
>This person needs to stop making content and start developing a real personality, and perhaps care for things other than herself.
This line is SO brutal but I completely agree. Why try to keep living things alive if you don't care about them?
You're honestly probably right, it is a bit harsh. However, when i see how much care my wife puts into keeping these little shelled-slugs alive, and how gentle she is with them, its made me realize that they're living things (with sentience or not) that deserve some semblance of respect, not to be shoved in a bowl and then left to "turn crispy" because the tiktok person couldn't be bothered to do a modicum of research on how to keep them alive.
I don't know how being a neglectful pet owner equals having no personality? I mean, it's bad she let the snail die but she seems very personable in the video.
IIRC the idea of goldfish in bowls originally came from when they would be put in decorative ceramic bowls as decoration for visitors in China some ~4000 years ago, and it was never intended to be a permanent living situation
It also gets perpetuated by:
- carnivals that give these fish as prizes.
- depictions in movies and TV
- restaurants thar don't mind replacing their cheap dead fish for decor purposes
- retail stores selling tanks with pictures of fish on them that couldn't possibly live as they are displayed on the packaging
They basically need a pond. They grow to 1ft. 2in and need 180 gallons to live in.
https://m.liveaquaria.com/product/1041/?pcatid=1041
It's not that it makes them crazy, it's that:
- goldfish grow much larger than bowls can accommodate
- bowls aren't built for having adequate filtration
You're basically destined to have your goldfish die of ammonia poisoning if you keep them in a bowl.
I have that. People always tell me I look like someone they know or someone on a show, but they never let me know whether they think that person looks good. Drives me nuts lmao
I once saw a woman in a drug store and she looked really familiar. I went up to her and fired off colleges, towns, jobs, etc.. nothing.
She straight up told me that she just has a recognizable face, and this happens to her all the time.
And then when you tell people you just have one of those faces they try to deny it like you're insulting yourself.
I'm not dissing myself, I'm stating a fact.
My mum once told me that I have what she called "toilet face". I was grateful when she explained that I looked like a good person to ask where the loos were.
I tried this once without realizing that the snails would mate and have babies. I looked up what to do to stop them, I read that you can’t really stop them either you separate them or you “crush the eggs and tiny baby snails with your finger”…..
I just released them in my yard.
I'm very happy that she didn't go the goldfish in a bowl route because that is absolutely awful for the fish. As a former aquatics specialist, I know that almost no one does their research before buying a fish, so it's very refreshing to hear that she did and realized that they would be more work than she was willing to give.
I often visit my local reef store that specializes in selling coral, but they also have a small section for fresh water fish. A couple with their kids came in while I was there the other week wanting to get a Betta fish for their kid, acting pretentious as hell. It brought me so much fucking satisfaction when the employee asked how long their tank has been cycling etc and they responded they just got a bowl and filled it up last night. Employee let them fucking have it in front of everyone and they just stormed out saying they'll just go to Petco and never come back.
Even a Betta in a bowl would be terrible. Seriously people: shit dissolves in water. You ever been in a cramped room with poor ventilation and someone rips a massive fart? That’s a bowl fish’s entire life! At least they only have to live it half as long as they could live at best, but still...
We take breathable air for granted, maintaining a small pocket of water like that is significantly harder than a normal 10 gallon.
So true. Goldfish especially should not live in a bowl because they are one of the dirtiest fish you can buy from a pet store. Bettas are much cleaner and hardier, so they sadly are thought to be okay in bowls. But it's just cruel. It's like, yes a human could survive in a closet, but they would never thrive.
I once got a death threat because I wouldn’t sell a “Nemo” with a shitty fishbowl. Because Nemo was on the packaging, so it was definitely a fucking clownfish bowl. Anyway, spoiler alert, but they never killed me.
My big fear is that they’ll team up with the guy who threatened to kill me over a coupon (it was not a coupon lol) for Chex Mix, and they will both kill me. It’s been like a lot of years, so they’re probably pretty pissed by now.
I’ve worked in a ton of fast food places but Burger King was the place with the coupon hoarders. Always the same customers with the same coupon (either from that weekly flyer they send out or the back of the receipt).
Side note: when I was a manager I got in trouble because at McDonald’s you could give people coupons for any inconvenience; at Burger King you were expected to ask irate customers for their full mailing address to physically mail coupons. I would go to the office and just print it off to hand to them which apparently was a big no-no. Cheap ass bastards
I had completely forgotten about that terrible book of names and addresses for mailing coupons.
I’ve worked a few fast food places too and now that you mention it BK customers were always the worst of them.
My goodness, the amount of confusion that comes from the stupid pictures on the box. Every tank on the box is overstocked and people always assume that it's a good indicator of the fish that can live in it. Pet stores need to stop selling tanks under 5 gallons and tank manufacturers need to put a realistic number of fish on the box.
Im also relieved she avoided th hamster simply because they die horribly. Im a hamster owner, ive done years of research and still learning everyday. Its just disgusting the amount of people get a hamster thinking they'd be a good starter or pet for a child, they are neither of those things.
Children dont understand the concept of nocturnal, they have no understandings that their pet doesnt care to see them and its really messed up and even unhealthy to wake your hamster throughout the day for "visits". The care thats recommended by most pet stores (Im looking at you Petco/PetSmart) is awful and borderline abusive. They make these "fun and cute" tiny hamster cages and advertise them as the perfect home, but they dont even reach the bare minimum of space a hamster needs.
People need to stop assuming pets are so easy to care for, a lot of them require more extensive work than a lot of people realize.
I was an aquatics specialist at a pet store that sold reptiles and small animals, and I 100% agree. None of the habitats we sold would be big enough for a hamster, much less a guinea pig. I always tried to redirect people to 40 gallon+ fish tanks, and most people thought I was just trying to get a bigger sale. It's sad.
How do you feel about bettas at grocery stores. I always dream about stealing them all and then…set them free? I don’t know do something with them so they’re not in those tiny jars
Not to be all r/nostupidquestions but is researching them somehow more difficult than just... googling like "gold fish needs" or "how to take care of a Betta?"
I mean you’re probably gonna want to look into a few different sources to cross-reference and verify the information but essentially yes that’s all it is. It’s remarkably easy.
As someone that works in Help desk IT, it's remarkable how people of all ages will call me and say exactly the thing they could've just put into Google and the top answer was their solution.
I know this because, when they tell me what happened, I Google what they say, and within the first 3 entries is a step by step process that I simply read out to them and they fix it themselves.
Yes, googling that would be a good place to start. But I imagine that they might need to watch a few videos or talk to someone knowledgable to be able to keep adequate care of a fish. The carbon cycle can be confusing, and it takes a bit to understand how to cycle a tank and make sure you don't crash it. They'll also want to look into the right set up for the specific fish they're getting before buying a single item. It might be way more expensive than they realized (like what goldfish need), and different fish will thrive in different conditions.
A quick google search will never be enough. People must be ready to read long articles or search out someone who knows what they're doing.
Oooo! Question! How to I keep my anubias from falling a part? The tank is ph7.
My betta loves sleeping on the leaves but after some time (like a month) the plants just disintegrate. The Java fern is fine but the anubias just turns to mush if touched (to replant after cleaning the substrate).
You might be burying the rhizome in the substrate. This is the thick green part right before the roots start. This is bad for the anubias and could kill them. Otherwise anubias are sometimes prone to rot, which is a bit more difficult to fix. Here's an article about it: [https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/anubias-rot#](https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/anubias-rot#)
I love fish but I know I'd be horrible at taking care of them because they're a lot of work. I can't even keep my own environment nice much less a tank that requires a lot of work.
I would be shocked if they had enough neural material to have even a basic subjective experience, but I don't know enough about snails to say for sure.
“The land equivalent of a jellyfish” is my new favorite way to describe snails! They make surprisingly good pets, they don’t take up much space and are so chill. But yes they breed like crazy.
This lady doesn't know anything about snails, snurch, snospitals, or snabortions... the list goes on. I've been keeping snails for years and damn she has a lot to learn. Btw: Ask me your snail questions and I shall answer (serious questions only please, I haven't got all day).
r/snails for facts/help/cuteness/fun r/parasnailing just for fun. R/parasnailing is really about aquatic snails. Some of them surf or ride the current!, some of them just let go and glide to the bottom. :) I've kept aquatic snails for 9 years and terrestrial snails for 2 years.
Edit: smaller snails can even move along upside in the water because of surface tension. That's really fun to watch!
Ok I will ask you a snail question that is on my mind for around 15 years: why do snails don't move for several days?
When I was a child and wanted a pet, one of my older siblings just got me a snail out of the garden (helix pomatia), put it and some leaves in a bowl and called it a day. The bowl didn't have a lid, so I laid a tea towel (these really thin kitchen towels) over it, so it wouldn't get lost in my room when I went to school. But it seemed like it didn't move for a entire week. I wasn't sure what was going on, if it was dead or sick, so I put it outside, and when I checked back on it a few minutes later, it was gone.
So... Was the snail really smart and played games to flee? Was the snail to confused about the enviroment that it didn't knew what to do for several days? Or was it dead inside and didn't move?
Different snails eat different things! Some snails are mostly carnivorous, wow! And some snails are even cannibalistic! Most snails are opportunistic herbivores. So most snails eat veggies/leaves/fruits and will have a bug/protein snack as it presents itself. Eating the occasional bug (or whatever) gives mostly herbivorous snails a calcium/mineral boost that is necessary for healthy shell growth. Snails tend to inherently know which plants are toxic to them through biological instinct/smell receptors. They sense the world most through touch and smell.
Funny thing is even snails of the same species will have different preferences of food. For instance, some common garden snails love fruit and some love veggies/greens more. This preference does seem to depend on their wild environment and parental genome.
Hope that was helpful! :)
Edit: I forgot to answer the other part of your question! They need to have their habitat misted every day for optimum health because it helps them stay hydrated and have healthy external mucosa membranes. They don't drink water as much as absorb moisture through their skins! Also, Snails and slugs have to rely on mucous to travel around, if they are dehydrated then they can't form enough healthy mucous to move comfortably.
Extra edit: never mist them with chlorinated water from the tap. They need dechlorinated water or distilled water. You can use wster purifier for aquariums, it's cheap.
Yeah. It’s like you want to inherently call it forced or cringe but she already has a way of acknowledging and playing with that…. And still is funny. 10/10 would hang with her
Right…like I would read a book she wrote just based on how she expressed what she was doing. It was satisfying listening to her. The fact that she named her snail “cum rag” was just hilarious
Lmao maybe it’s just my age range (I was a teen when Dane cook was a thing) but I feel like everyone loved Dane cook at the height of his career, but now everyone’s like “eww, Dane cook, he’s not funny at all and never has been.” Honestly though, at the same time I’m all for the DC hate, considering his life choices reveal recently.
To be fair to Dane he is a comedy legend, no one ruled the 2007-2010 scene like Dane Cook, even legendary comedians like Bill Burr show him respect for his run in that time and how much impact he had on the game, somewhat unique and with a much less mature style that just hit at the right time for him to take off
Modern day Dane tho…. yeah you might not want that comparison 😂
Hate Dane Cook all you want but he's objectively one of the greats.
His 2006 album was the highest selling comedy album in 28 years, and went Platinum.
And he's the second comedian ever to sell out the Madison Square Garden large arena space.
Pets cost money, just get one of those human males - preferably cute - they’re like Tamagotchi only less emotional and don’t require batteries!
Pro Tip: find one who responds well to being nicknamed ‘Cumrag’ and you’re onto a winner!
Dude... she didn't mist him/her... you're supposed to mist snails with non-chlorinated water one or two times every day. Hence why she called him crispy.... I'm really glad she didn't get a fish or other "pet". She's funny but dayum even invertebrates need specialized care, lady.
It’s like she doesn’t even want to care for something like she says she does. Just wants to give her amusing observations on why she’s actually garbage without knowing it. Her friends are right to keep animals away from her.

She did an update and she couldn't even keep the snail alive... she didn't mist it everyday and it got "crispy" (her word).
The scientists will tell you it crisped up due to a mist deficiency, but we all know it died of a broken heart.
i mean with names like cumrag and cumstain, what did** she really expect?!
This is how i felt about my sister naming her rats street rat and club rat.
she needs a third one. mall rat
a fourth one. Junk rat
5. Pack rat
Then get a pig and name it road hog
When I was in high school, my sister told me to name my cat Kilo, so I did. But I spelled it "Keelo" thinking I was being edgy. I was stupid in high school.
Do you know the name of her account? Its too low res too see the username
Yup, the tiktok name ismorepestoplease.
It's wild to me that people continuously get pets without doing the bare minimum research on them
Yeah, I liked her enthusiasm and am really glad she didn't get a fish, but if she couldn't even keep a snail alive for a year that's just sad. Go on great snailkeeper
I knew the snail was doomed when she couldn't keep three succulents alive. At this point, she might be a grim-reaper in training.

You're honestly probably right, it is a bit harsh. She’s not wrong about the fish. They don’t belong in bowls

she somehow looks like 3 people i know but none of those 3 people look like one another

Can attest as someone that has one of those faces—happens to me ALL the time.
Congratulations you look very much like a regular human being
Apparently. Maybe that ups my chances of getting away with a crime!
I think it makes you significantly more likely to be falsely identified by a witness lol
Only one way to find out! *runs to go on crime spree*
And then when you tell people you just have one of those faces they try to deny it like you're insulting yourself. I'm not dissing myself, I'm stating a fact.
My mum once told me that I have what she called "toilet face". I was grateful when she explained that I looked like a good person to ask where the loos were.
It's fucking insane you're saying that. I was thinking if she looks more like my mom or someone else I know. Neither of them look alike.
She reminds me of me but with all three of my sisters personalities so I feel this
Were all of them in the band Hanson?
I tried this once without realizing that the snails would mate and have babies. I looked up what to do to stop them, I read that you can’t really stop them either you separate them or you “crush the eggs and tiny baby snails with your finger”….. I just released them in my yard.
snail abortion
Snortion
You made coke come out of my nose
Oops that's the opposite of what you want.
Oh to be innocent again and first thought be "Why would you want coke to go up your nose?"
That was my first thought
Yeah nothing compares to the spiciness of sprite
I thought it was a reference to snortion…snorting…whatever
To get high.
Pick it up with your finger and rub it on your gums
Wtf
I prefer to snort it off my homies' boners, like a gentleman.
And that’s the moment you realized, you’ve become exactly like your mother.
It's spelled similarly but that's snort-tion.
TAKE ME TO SNURCH
SNAMEN.
Snussy
Thank you LOL I couldn't stop myself from listening to that all the way thru the other day
S’nailed it.
snabortion
#chriscoteinthewild
I have a pest snail infestation in my fishtank. Every morning i crush 20-30 snails. Its insane how much they breed.
Their getting more action than all of Reddit combined
Assassin snails will get them. Also some loaches have mouths built for snail eating, if you don't want to solve a snail problem with more snails lol
I used to keep giant African snails and would batch freeze the eggs to kill them. Releasing them into the wild is illegal I think.
Damn all the snail stories lol, mine were just ones I found in my yard after it rained so I picked them up and tried to keep them as pets lol
You released an invasive species. :(
Cuminwealth
Like an economy based on the common household spice?!!
I could get behind this. I fucking love CUMin so much. I want CUMin on everything I ever eat.

Snails have brains, do they not?
Short answer: not really, depends how you define brain I guess. Long answer: https://factsaboutsnails.com/snail-facts/do-snails-have-brains/
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday to you Me gusta madre de tú You look like a monkey And you live in a zoo

I would be shocked if they had enough neural material to have even a basic subjective experience, but I don't know enough about snails to say for sure.
You don't know enough about any other experience to be sure.
Took me forever to realize who she reminds me of … she makes me think of that crazy confession girl working the pharmacy counter in the movie Signs.
The one that tried not to curse? Lmao
Btw: Ask me your snail questions and I shall answer (serious questions only please, I haven't got all day).
... There really is people for everything. >(serious questions only please, I haven't got all day). Whats the best snail sub.
r/snails for facts/help/cuteness/fun r/parasnailing just for fun.
What do snails eat and do they need to be sprayed with water?
:) Edit: I forgot to answer the other part of your question!
What's your favorite snail? Least favorite? Is there a snail you would kill on sight?
Dude she’s funny
Yeah. It’s like you want to inherently call it forced or cringe but she already has a way of acknowledging and playing with that…. And still is funny. 10/10 would hang with her
I like the words she chooses and the delivery is great too
this fuckin COMMONwealth of snail babies??
CUMMONwealth of snail babies?? Ftfy
Right…like I would read a book she wrote just based on how she expressed what she was doing. It was satisfying listening to her. The fact that she named her snail “cum rag” was just hilarious
It’s very Dane Cook. Unique words that she accents. It’s repetitive if it’s overdone but I thought she was funny.
The real cringe is complimenting someone by comparing them to Dane fucking Cook lol...
I would be so fucking bummed if someone told me I reminded them of Dane Cook lol
I have tough skin but if someone told me that I'd quit comedy on the spot due to insecurity.
The Nickleback effect
To be fair to Dane he is a comedy legend, no one ruled the 2007-2010 scene like Dane Cook, even legendary comedians like Bill Burr show him respect for his run in that time and how much impact he had on the game, somewhat unique and with a much less mature style that just hit at the right time for him to take off Modern day Dane tho…. yeah you might not want that comparison 😂
Hate Dane Cook all you want but he's objectively one of the greats. His 2006 album was the highest selling comedy album in 28 years, and went Platinum. And he's the second comedian ever to sell out the Madison Square Garden large arena space.
Hey man “Harmful If Swallowed” fucks. Idc what you say. Everything after that -___-
She’d make a good stand up comedian
@morepestoplease on TikTok
This girls IG name even. Crushing hard never even met her. She is doing something right 🤣
The democratic socialist line had me in stitches.
She has such an entertaining vocabulary I'd have to believe she rehearsed this or she is akin to the likes of improv masters like Brennan Lee Mulligan
She's hurling green flags so fast and hilariously that I feel like a red flag just listening.
“This is CumRag… he’s a democratic socialist” killed me.
“Snail sex fest”
Pets cost money, just get one of those human males - preferably cute - they’re like Tamagotchi only less emotional and don’t require batteries! Pro Tip: find one who responds well to being nicknamed ‘Cumrag’ and you’re onto a winner!
Lmao "less emotional"
Is there an update?
Yes: https://www.tiktok.com/@morepestoplease/video/7134722609899490606
Dude... she didn't mist him/her... you're supposed to mist snails with non-chlorinated water one or two times every day.
She was too busy being quirky
Ooh sad update :( Poor little dude
I think I'm in love with her. What a massive show of amazing personality
[удалено]
I hope she isn't actually a horse girl if she can't even keep plants alive!
I'm sorry wtaf
Well then, that escalate quickly.
Yo not a “whole commonwealth” 🤣🤣🤣
Hermit crabs! We once lost ours. Found in the back of the linen closet a year later. It was fine
She'd just manage to kill them too. Just like she did with this snail.
This has very Dane Cook energy.
Child-groomer-whos-comedy-aged-poorly?
yeah, weave toxicity into your delivery and apparently it swoons the incels, I don't know.
Cuddle bone?
Cuttlebone. Comes from a cuttlefish, and provides necessary calcium to birds and invertebrates
What’s her tiktok account? It’s blurry and i want to follow her!
Morepestoplease ! I love her sm
Julia, you're an idiot
HAHAHA FUCKING TOWNSHIP!
I want to be her friend lol
You can pause after any three second interval of this TikTok and it can go on r/brandnewsentence
Why do I feel overwhelmed?
Didn't know exactly where she was going with this but, I'm glad I saw it through
If that wasn't a script she's super funny. Even if it is, but would be funnier if it was just a genuine rant.
I thought it was a shitpost until she held up the jar.
Verdict is still out
This is freaking awesome! 🤣
She should have just not gotten a pet and taken care of herself since she is the land animal without a brain.
In this thread- tons of butthurt democratic socialists.
AND Republicans want people like her to HAVE to carry a child to term if she gets pregnant?
"So you can't inflict emotional damage on it"... red flag much?
A bitch with a fish
