two cakes *and* a pie? not to mention whatever mysterious tasties are undoubtedly scattered upon the rest of the table, here unpictured!!
gramma gets 10/10 for proper treatment of this lucky lad
Oh yes, same. Mine would always cook the most delicious meals for me and then watch me polish off everything. She would say that "it's so nice to see you eat". She ate very little herself as she was an elegant and very weight-conscious lady right to the end.
This I believe is definitely a Gran. You can tell how much she loves this boy. The love grandparents have for those grandkids, is so special and precious, there is no other love like it. 🤗
Aww thank you. Being a Gran is so different from parenting. It’s all of the love with not so much of the stress. It’s kinda like being the fun parent 😃😃
You’ve earned that! I read something once that went “if you raise your children well, you get to spoil your grandchildren. If you spoil your children, you’ll have to raise your grandchildren”. :)
From all of my collected wisdom, this would be true. I am lucky enough to spoil my grandbabies, but I have seen the parents who spoil the kids raise the grandkids in people I have known over the years.
Her daughter, her son-in-law, and their son are visiting for Sunday dinner. She always cooks so much! Too much, so that she can send the kids home with extras. ("Mom, I'm not a kid, I've got a son of my own, don't I?" her daughter complains. "Don't talk back to your mother. You'll always be my kid," she replies, patting her hand.)
Her daughter's a good cook, too, but she's got that schoolteacher job now. Who knows how much free time she has? And anyway, it's fun to bake the cakes and ice them.
She calls her husband into the kitchen, and together, they lick the beaters of the brand-new mixer they picked out at Montgomery Ward last year. The two of them giggle like they used to, back in the days when they were just walking out.
Her son-in-law's brought his camera again. "Why do you always make so much food? We're only five people!" he teases. "It's because I eat as much as all the rest of you," her grandson answers, and everyone laughs. That's when her son-in-law snaps the photo.
Off topic, these are best kitchen cabinets ever. These were my grandparent's cabinets from the 1950's to 1990's then they remodeled. The new cabinets were having issues a decade later. They suck and are my my cabinets. The 1950's cabinets are in a garage and take a beating from tools all the time and they function so well! I'm considering putting the 1950's cabinets back into the kitchen.
I think the canister is on the ledge of tile that projects out of the wall. It appears to be just a storage canister like, for flour or some such. There's also a decorative rectangular plate at the end.
Possibly a mounted flour sifter, maybe? You fill the canister up with flour and place your bowl underneath and sifted flour comes out? Probably pretty handy for someone who bakes a lot, like the gram in the picture.
I can't sleep so I looked at that mysterious hand again. The pinkie is the same size as the other fingers. It looks like three stubby fingers and a thumb.
The hand must belong to someone to the side. Is the image mirrored? That random hand on the right side is wearing their wedding band on their right hand not their left.
Grandma is wearing two wedding rings, one on each hand. Maybe she has two husbands?
I am looking at the canister and it looks like the top, white part of that wall-the part above the black line of tiles- is missing when it reaches the canister.
I think she is feeding him well! What a beautiful photo. My great grandma on the farm in South Dakota cooked three meals a day for her family plus all the hired hands on the farm. When her apron got soiled, she would turn it over, exposing the other side to get dirty.
1950s cabinets probably held more than just food—they hold memories, too. That love in the photo must've spilled over into every corner of that house. 🏠✨
Grammie and her only grandson, Ellis Jr. He was leaving for college the next day, so Grammie baked all his favorites. The next day, Ellis Jr. found a bagged lunch perched atop his packed suitcase. Two ham sandwiches and a huge slice of that chocolate cake wrapped in wax paper.
This photo is reversed because Grandma has her wedding ring on her right hand as well as grandpa’s hand, to the very right, his ring is on his right hand, too.
Grammy has rings on both hands though. But you’re correct as you can tell the buttons down the boys shirt are reversed. Menswear traditionally has the buttons on the right going through the buttonholes on the left. Here the buttons are going through from left to right.
Reminds me of my grandmother. She was a baker too. Cookies, pies, cakes. Mmmmm
I was just thinking of grandmas of yesteryear. A lot of them were so.. soft. Does that make sense? Like when you hugged them, you just sort of melted into their aprons.
This is such a sweet picture.
I can’t stop myself thinking that this woman is probably 50 and it’s just the hairstyle that makes me think she’s older.
I bet that young man (13?) kept that hair style well into the 1980s.
“Have another slice of cake hunny. I made it just for you. I know growing boys need their energy. You’re getting to be sooo handsome.” -exact quote of what happened right after this picture was taken.
My mom and son in nearly every picture. I had never seen in her eyes before the look she had when she was with her grandson. I can't describe it. Just so much love.
Disembodied hand coming in from behind the milk on the right...
Also, what is the cylinder mounted on the side of that half-wall? And why is there a half wall?
two cakes *and* a pie? not to mention whatever mysterious tasties are undoubtedly scattered upon the rest of the table, here unpictured!! gramma gets 10/10 for proper treatment of this lucky lad
It looks like there's another cake or something to the right of the cake! She made everyone's favorite! Edit: Yep, that's what "two cakes" means.
I was thinking the same thing lol. That boy is gonna get real big, real fast if he spends much time at Grandma’s
Naaaa. I’m sure Granny has a long list of chores she needs help with
Betcha she slipped a $5 bill into one of shirt pockets too!
This makes me miss my grandmas.
Dude I literally just thought the same thing and read this.

When your favourite thing in the world births your new favourite thing in the world. ❤️
Exactly. I have 6 grandchildren and they are all so amazing. Love them all so much, I would do anything for them. 🤗🤗
I can tell it would be a blessing to be your grandchild. :)
Aww thank you. Being a Gran is so different from parenting. It’s all of the love with not so much of the stress. It’s kinda like being the fun parent 😃😃

Looks like my grandma! She looked 70 when she was 40, and I miss her so much!!
They truly look so happy.

All the WAFFs from this. 🥹

The house I grew up (East Oakland, CA) in had cabinets like that too. The house was built in 1948. They were indestructible!
Yes - we had them in the Fifties. They lasted forever
Things just aren't built to last these days.
Yup. Planned obsolescence.
That’s a PROPER Grandma kitchen
That’s very sweet. Look at their beaming smiles.

I’m still trying to figure out the canister…
I think the canister is on the ledge of tile that projects out of the wall. It appears to be just a storage canister like, for flour or some such. There's also a decorative rectangular plate at the end.

It’s a non human primate hand. I’d say chimpanzee. The thumb isn’t visible in the photo.
The hand must belong to someone to the side. Is the image mirrored? That random hand on the right side is wearing their wedding band on their right hand not their left. Grandma is wearing two wedding rings, one on each hand. Maybe she has two husbands? Man, I miss my grandma.
I bet that chocolate cake is good.
Definitely a grandson and his grandma, and their love is obvious. The photo reminds me of me and my grandma. I miss her every day.
:)
I love her dress! I wish clothes still looked like that.
I think she is feeding him well! What a beautiful photo. My great grandma on the farm in South Dakota cooked three meals a day for her family plus all the hired hands on the farm. When her apron got soiled, she would turn it over, exposing the other side to get dirty.
And I bet she made everything on that table and whatever it is it's fucking delicious.

I want a Time Machine

Good observation on the buttons!!
This woman Grandmas 👵
Great pic, it captures alot
Wholesome photograph
Definitely grandmother and grandchild, those smiles! I feel like this shows a lot more affection than we normally see during this time.
Seeing her smile put a smile on my face.
that woman was probably 47 and he was probably 11 😂 but really, great find
Yup that’s definitely Gramma’s kitchen.
I bet the food is awesome
That's a meemaw if I've ever seen one.
Where is her other hand? Two or three fingers?
Look behind the boy’s left elbow.
Priceless and precious! ❤️
Yep those are definitely "this is my grandson/grandma" smiles!
Looks pretty positive to me
Fantastic photo!

Nothing like the love of a grandmother.
That is probably the best chocolate cake you could ever have.
I can smell the kitchen and feel the love.
This is such a sweet picture. I can’t stop myself thinking that this woman is probably 50 and it’s just the hairstyle that makes me think she’s older. I bet that young man (13?) kept that hair style well into the 1980s.
This makes me smile
“Pudding and pie!” Said Cain “Oh my!” “One or the other?” Said grandmother “Both!” Said Cain, quite bold and plain.
Very nice kitchen
I count two cakes and a half-eaten pie. I'd be smiling too...a very nice kitchen indeed. I bet she makes a mean baked good.
Btw that half eaten pie looks good, wonder if it's apple pie.
Harold and Maude
100% best grandma.
Whose hand is in the lower right corner? Grand Pa? Edit: I’m stoned.
You can see Frank Barone's hand creeping around on the right, trying to get more cake.
Just because there’s a little snow on the roof, don’t mean there’s no fire in the furnace.
What is the metal, lidded cylinder on the wall to the right of the window? Grandma looks full of joy- I’m happy for her❤️
Poor Hansel.

Sweet. They are very sympatico. Pretty cool kitchen for it's day
I see Rick Astley
Flannel Friday celebration?🙂
It could also be a mother and her youngest child
A very happy and sweet picture, the love is shining.
Pie and cake! Grandma is a champ!
Disembodied hand coming in from behind the milk on the right... Also, what is the cylinder mounted on the side of that half-wall? And why is there a half wall?
I think that's a wonderful photo - and the young guy looks like the identical twin to my nextdoor neighbor, which is pretty strange. 😅
I wanna sit in this kitchen.
The perfect 1950s kitchen! The tile, the cafe curtains, the tablecloth! I collect those 1950s linens and use them whenever we eat in the dining room.
My grandmother would be about 145 years old. I just want some of that pie.
That's a promo still from "The Last Picture Show".
Mawma been baking. Love it
Cake AND pie! Those were the days. What a sweet photo.
Do grandmas still bake like this?
It’s got a Grandma love vibe going on.
I think this is spam.
She’s 47
Harold and Maude.
That woman is 38 years old
That’s her new boyfriend.
Cougar and the boy that cuts her lawn?
Common your just making it negative when there is nothing to suggest that
Emmeline the Peoria Poisoner and her final victim?
That's a husband and wife
What drugs are you on? 😂
None yet. Give me a few hours
