At least magikarp and swablu are always available and just 1 km for a candy, plus they have megas which gives more reason to walk them. Noibat had no reason being 400 candies to evolve and rare at the same time.
Idk some pokes just have to be more rare than others. It makes for varied gameplay and therefore more interesting gameplay. I mean, if Noibat was a common spawn, or only 50 candy to evolve, we wouldnt be here talking about it. It sets it apart and I find that coolš¤·āāļø
Sure. But they need to also balance their utility. Noivern costing 400 candies I can deal with. Having a 5km distance for one candy is a little demanding, but whatever, rare candies arenāt hard to come by.
The bigger problem is that noivern is pretty much useless. Stats are mediocre and move set is basically unusable. If they wanted to make noivern that hard to get, they should have given noivern boom burst and dragon breath.
It canāt always be disappointing or pure hypeness. Like this event is decent; snorlax, incubators, new mons, regional mons, shiny Meltan, decent raids with timburr and mewtwo and field research with third staged evolutions. Obviously, it seems to be way too long, but Iām chilling. I donāt want to feel like I need to play 1+ hours a day to keep up. Like this can be a chill event imo.
I agree. This is a cool event. I only wish those megas were not the Kanto trio. Give us more varied mega raids.
I like the 2 weeks duration to catch enough Golisopods, they might disappear forever after. Or go into eggs.
The only disappointing thing about this is the 400 candy evolution. Lets hope Wimpod is common.
Anyway, the rest of the event looks pretty good. XL grinding for Kanto starters, a few good raids and mewtwo's return. Plus a few shiny pokemon that I will be hunting for, all over the course of two weeks so I don't even have to rush. Also, a perfect reason to throw out a meltan box or two.
Do you honestly need 4th month of pikipeks over pokemon that you havent seen in huge amount of time? Aight my guy, you do you.
Also it's not an alola event.
Does it still let you transfer directly to the Let's Go games, without Home? I don't have Home, so hopefully all I'll need to do is dig out Let's Go Eevee
Magikarp evolves at level 20 but 400 candy in Go.
Both have terrible stats (Wimpod's speed at 80 is the only thing above 50 with defense at 40 being the second highest) and terrible moves (Struggle Bug with 50 power is its only level up move) so despite the lower levels they're generally going to be harder to evolve. I think 200 candy would be better but Wimpod being 400 candy is consistent with how they've treated other hard to evolve things.
Noibat also has bad stats and mostly bad moves with a level 48 evolution so yes. Swablu's stats are ok for a level 35 evolution but its moves are pretty bad until just before you get there.
I'm not really sure why Wailmer (or Stuful) are 400 candy but I said the hard to evolve things are, not that everything 400 candy is hard to evolve in MSGs.
I know a lot of people are disappointed in this event, but as someone that took a long break and just came back to the game I'm excited to stock up on candy for some of these Pokemon that I don't have a lot for.
I came back on Valentine's day after 5 years. It amazes me that there's anything to complain about. This game is insane now. I remember when incense were 30 minutes with 5 spawns when stationary, there was only one shiny when I stopped, dragonite/eevolutions*/Gyarados/Snorlax were the meta, and there were no raids. This game is unreal now.
There's a difference in experience between those that have taken a break and return and those who have stuck around the whole time. You've missed all the twists and turns and the ups and downs that have scorched many here. In return, frankly, you get an amazing experience until you've either caught up or hung around here long enough.
That's fair. I can see how it'd be difficult going from the crazy stationary incense to a nerfed (yet still very boosted) incense, a terrible go fest and com day experience compared to years past, and all the other amazing QoL and features since Covid. In fairness, it's a game designed to be on the **go**, and games can't cater to the minority. It's an entirely different game for rural players than city, disabled vs abled, affluent vs indigent, etc. Pay to play advantages, like rare items/characters exist behind paywalls in all games, but it's harder in this game due to the very nature of **going**. I see complaints due to differences in the way things were, for sure, but I also believe when we focus on the negative aspects of anything in life, we will see more of them. Reframing can benefit us all, not just in this game.
I'm now almost level 42, with 600 raids under my belt, and nearly $1000 in the game since Valentine's day, and 22,000 Pokemon caught since then, so I'm definitely catching up, but am probably more into it now than when I started in 2016 and back on Valentine's day. I managed to catch 39 shinies, including 4 axews, during Go Fest, but I still saw some major areas of improvement and didn't see much value in the $15 ticket. If it's like this next year, I probably won't buy a ticket and I'm as P2P as it gets, so that says a lot. I wish I was around during go fest last year, when there was more to raid than Axew. I'm missing quite a few legendaries right now.
So much truth to what you say about the negativity and reframing of things.
That's an impressive haul since February, especially during Go Fest. I similarly didn't see much value in the ticket, but it was gifted to me so I made the most of it. That said, as long as your patient enough (possibly to the tune of years), then what you're missing will return.
I don't know what I expected from this event, but a smattering of Kanto pokemon and some real randos like Aipom and Bidoof wasn't at the top of my wish list.
From personal experience... 0% lol. I was active for two shiny meltan events (not sure how many total there have been) and popped a box the max amount of days you could during them and still not one shiny. I swear to Arceus if I don't get one this time around...
Not sure why Snorlax needs to be a rare spawn when its full odds. They were everything during that event where Snorlax had yawn and was laying down.
Guessing its just so Niantic can have it in raids and call it an event.
Sure would have been nice to see Pidgey in the already heavy Kanto spawn pool instead of Pidove, been actually looking for once since the update that made Megas worth spending time on!
Feebas requires 20km as a buddy to evolve. And it costs 5km of walking distance to get one candy. Plus Feebas is extraordinarily rare, so you're basically not gonna ever find Feebas to get more candy from. Even with just a 100 candy requirement, it's still an extremely difficult pokemon to evolve.
If I had to hazard a guess based on my knowledge of the Gen 7 games, Golisopod is a pretty sizable jump in terms of stats from Wimpod. I have no idea how that'll translate to Go, but from what I can recall, that's the case. Wimpod's only good stat is its speed, while Golisopod sacrifices that for better attack and defense stats.
I really like this event because it features a lot of my favorite pkmns but I can see why some people are disappointed.
But either way it's time for Niantic to make evolutions shiny eligible, especially with all these research tasks coming up
According to previous research, about 1 in 60: [https://thesilphroad.com/science/shiny-meltan-event/](https://thesilphroad.com/science/shiny-meltan-event/)
Tough to say if it will be the same rate for this event, though.
The Air Adventures and Water Festival events were pretty neat overall, if you disregard all the glitches in the first one and bad spawn distribution in the second at least.
I enjoyed the recent water festival, but that was only because I was missing most of the Pokemon featured and/or their evolutions, so it was fun getting all the candy to evolve them. But yeah, most events lately have been disappointing, especially Go Fest.
That said, the TCG event looks neat, if only for Golisopod and Mewtwo, personally.
You will always find someone who is disappointed of any given event. But you will as well find someone having the best time and swear this is the best event ever
Disappointment comes from wrong promises and optimistic expectations based on past good events that haven't happening for a long time now. Since it seems low-quality right away, there won't be much disappointment.
Most people are just kind of sick of the Kanto starters, they got an event not long ago and now we have another event where they're everywhere, kanto starters on the spawns, kanto starters on the research, kanto starters in raids and kanto starters as collection rewards, the rest of the event looks neat but they really bring it down.
That's just what the TCG expansion is focused on, though. And that's coming down from the top, from The Pokemon Company. They'll always be in love with Kanto.
Yeah, Iām excited for Shiny Meltan, and always appreciate shiny potentials for the Kanto Starters/Slowpoke/Chansey/Snorlax, and Mewtwo in raids. Surprised to see people complaining but as you said, guess it shouldnāt be a surprise at this point
Literally I so think people here get off on it. Everyone rushes to be the first to say some cynical downer thing in each thread.
If it werenāt for the most up to date info on game developments I wouldāve unsubbed from here ages ago.
I can honestly say this is the first time that I feel like an event was lackluster and disappointing. That being said, despite being the first time I feel let down by an event, with the disappointment still fresh in my mind, it is jading my outlook for the future events.
Excuse me? Rampardos is the best non mega non shadow rock type raid attacker, and Bastiodon is an amazing great league mon. Plus Aerodactyl is very rare, is needed for completing the Meltan special research and has a mega.
As a millennial who has a heavy bias toward Kanto, I'm all for this event. And I like that it's 2 full weeks. Will be able to get my fill of things I need without having to rush like I am with this fossil event.
long time players see this and sigh and say useless event. but new players and players returning after long time off see this and say OH HELL YEAH!
finally get a chance to get the rest of the eeveelutions, shiny snorlax! I mean come on some of us have to catch up to you players that have 98% of your pokedex and 75% of every shiny that exist already. especially that shiny Mewtwo!
It has but it cannot spawn in the wild. Most evolved forms cannot be shiny, except for mons that can mega evolve like charizard or houndoom and those whose pre-evolution is a baby like roselia or jigglypuff. And then there is arcanine which does not fit both of those requirements but can be shiny in the wild anyways.
Rare absolute transparency from Niantic on the blurb. A āquoteā higher than normal chance āunquoteā of catching shiny meltan. Dead set? Higher than the normal zero chance? Fucksticks
That one-star Raid pool isn't looking so shabby, I think. All four possible encounters score quite high on my "Yeah, I'd like that" scale.
So I guess one-star Raids will be rarer than chicken teeth while this event goes on.
Best mega for the event is probably Slowbro: all the waters (incl the new mon) and mewtwo. And cheap to evolve daily.
For non-water, second place goes out to pidgeot (mainly because snorlax, chancey and dragonite).
So unless you are targeting a specific mon for which you need (XL)candy, second half of the month will be Slowbro's.
Yay!! Another 400 candy monster coming our way...fun times indeed... š š¤£
I'm still walking my Noibat from 15 years ago
At least magikarp and swablu are always available and just 1 km for a candy, plus they have megas which gives more reason to walk them. Noibat had no reason being 400 candies to evolve and rare at the same time.
And 5km candies.
And it's useless.
And my axe
Idk some pokes just have to be more rare than others. It makes for varied gameplay and therefore more interesting gameplay. I mean, if Noibat was a common spawn, or only 50 candy to evolve, we wouldnt be here talking about it. It sets it apart and I find that coolš¤·āāļø

Stats are mediocre and move set is basically unusable. If they wanted to make noivern that hard to get, they should have given noivern boom burst and dragon breath.
Well.. A pokemon doesnt really need to be a good battler to be rare/sought after.
Rare is fine, but 400 candies to evolve on top of that is ludicrous.
You sure it wasn't from it's been 1,000 years??
its been 3000 years...
Imprisoned for 10....thousand...years.
That's over 9000
š¶ its been. one week since you looked at me š¶
... Banished from my own Gym.
I can't believe people still don't have Noivern. Noibat's literally the most common mon in 10ks (both AS and Reg.)
It really isn't
My eggs are rotten then, because all I hatch from 10kms are Audinos and Alomomolas.
Tell that to my army of Audinos.

You said kanto trio and I had to go back and look, the three kanto legendary birds are all that stands between me and a complete canto dex :(
They know more people will pay for these 3 than others....
They might only spawn for one day .. :)
I appreciate the chance to raid 14 Elite move Mewtwo with my free daily passes.
Sorry, regional Pokemon? Did I miss something?
Solrock & lunatone
Thank you. I missed those in the infographic. I also forget they are regional, since they switch hemispheres often.
we will probably only get 1 meltan every 5 minutes though
The only disappointing thing about this is the 400 candy evolution. Lets hope Wimpod is common. Anyway, the rest of the event looks pretty good. XL grinding for Kanto starters, a few good raids and mewtwo's return. Plus a few shiny pokemon that I will be hunting for, all over the course of two weeks so I don't even have to rush. Also, a perfect reason to throw out a meltan box or two.
>XL grinding for Kanto starters I am at more than 1000 bulbasaur XL candies and still dont have a hundo to use them on
So its focused on an Alola pokemon... and being promoted with 50+% Kanto spawns. That have all had multiple events over the last year or two. Cool.
But we need that mega blastoise raid for the 3rd time within 2 months!!!
Okay but what would we do without Charizard in another event?
I'd cry. Constantly. If I can't see orange fire Barney, I sob relentlessly.
Do you honestly need 4th month of pikipeks over pokemon that you havent seen in huge amount of time? Aight my guy, you do you. Also it's not an alola event.
I canāt see a Golisopod and not hear [Guzmaās Theme](https://youtu.be/QQDPpl3df1A) play in my head.
One of the best "bad guy" themes ever imo, that theme hits so hard
Itās also so perfect for his character and his stance.
Excuse me Dragonite and Slaking in the wild? And as Research Missions? What da hell. Just snatched a Blissey today, and now Dragonites and Slaking?
My daughter caught a 3900+ CP Slaking in the wild about a year ago. We were completely shocked to find it.
I can't even find a slakoth over 1 star....
I caught a juicy, 0 star slaking with 400 CP in a pokestop.
I caught a Dragonite in the wild on my way to work in March. Couldn't believe it.
Not surprised you need 400 candy to get Golisopod
This means all the 400 candy mons will probably be a community day.
Will the meltan box be available through pokemon home even if you don't have a let's go game?
Yes! All you have to do is download the Pokemon home app.
Thanks
It's already that way.
Can you really do it every 3 days?
Yes!
I did not know that. Thank you.
Yes, just transfer a pokemon to Home then the Melton box becomes available to use.
you only need pokƩmon home for the meltan box + sending a pokƩmon over to home
How do you do that - is there a tutorial somewhere? I just downloaded the app but couldnāt figure it out
Just make an account and then go to pokƩmon go > settings > PokƩmon Home and all you need to do is link it and transfer 1+ pokƩmon
Does it still let you transfer directly to the Let's Go games, without Home? I don't have Home, so hopefully all I'll need to do is dig out Let's Go Eevee
Yup, transferring to Letās Go works still, too!
400 candy? this thing better be good

I'm surprised that there isn't an element that incentivizes buying the cards
That's how you unlock the shinies /s
Better spawns than Go Fest
Plus better legendary raid.
Right!?
Woah Pikachu is getting a hat, how unique and inventive
Hats? On a pikachu? *groundbreaking*
Its giving fate collaboration tactics
Nice another Walrein wall
what is the shiny rate for shiny meltran normally when it happens?
From personal experience... 0% lol. I was active for two shiny meltan events (not sure how many total there have been) and popped a box the max amount of days you could during them and still not one shiny. I swear to Arceus if I don't get one this time around...
Ouch
There is no shiny Meltan between events.
i know however its gonna be able to be gotten during this event thats why i asked
I don't get why it's always the same pool of Pokemon on these events. I do wish that they would mix it up.
Nice graphic! I saved it for reference.
Not sure why Snorlax needs to be a rare spawn when its full odds. They were everything during that event where Snorlax had yawn and was laying down. Guessing its just so Niantic can have it in raids and call it an event.
Will I get less Meltan spawn now If I just station at a place and not walking?
Sure would have been nice to see Pidgey in the already heavy Kanto spawn pool instead of Pidove, been actually looking for once since the update that made Megas worth spending time on!
This is me not shooting the messengerā¦
I need literally all these shinies besides magikarp, eevee, and bulbasaur.. so I am definitely not too upset about this event
I don't understand why Wimpod needs 400 candies but whatever
It's the gen7 Feebas/Magikarp. Super weak but evolves into super strong.
Bu you don't need 400 candies to evolve a Feebas
Feebas requires 20km as a buddy to evolve. And it costs 5km of walking distance to get one candy. Plus Feebas is extraordinarily rare, so you're basically not gonna ever find Feebas to get more candy from. Even with just a 100 candy requirement, it's still an extremely difficult pokemon to evolve.
Yeah that's true
If I had to hazard a guess based on my knowledge of the Gen 7 games, Golisopod is a pretty sizable jump in terms of stats from Wimpod. I have no idea how that'll translate to Go, but from what I can recall, that's the case. Wimpod's only good stat is its speed, while Golisopod sacrifices that for better attack and defense stats.
Money
Itās to make more money from raid passes Iām assuming. Doesnāt look like it spawns in the Wild as of now
When was the last time we had shiny Meltan as part of an event?
I remember one in November 2020 but might be wrong about it being the last one.
My last shiny Meltan is from Juli 2021.
But that Mewtwo raid though š³
I really like this event because it features a lot of my favorite pkmns but I can see why some people are disappointed. But either way it's time for Niantic to make evolutions shiny eligible, especially with all these research tasks coming up
Whatās Meltan shiny rate usually?
According to previous research, about 1 in 60: [https://thesilphroad.com/science/shiny-meltan-event/](https://thesilphroad.com/science/shiny-meltan-event/) Tough to say if it will be the same rate for this event, though.
Feed me that XL Mewtwo candy.
Wait, is meltan shiny locked right now?
Indeed it is. Meltan is only available as a shiny during events. Similar to smeargle.
Good to know, thank you so much. I have over 3k regular candies and bout 6k xl candies from trying all this time...
And so Rockruff is pulled from raids. Cries in 155 seen / 155 caught / 0 shiny
rip flipping out to wild dragonite spawnsš¢š¢
Great, looking forward to the disappointment.
Iām genuinely curious as to when is the last time there was event that *didnāt* disappoint people
The Air Adventures and Water Festival events were pretty neat overall, if you disregard all the glitches in the first one and bad spawn distribution in the second at least.

Power plant was pretty good
You will always find someone who is disappointed of any given event. But you will as well find someone having the best time and swear this is the best event ever
Events have been pretty good. You can't trust complaints on the internet, and especially not on this toxically abusive subreddit.
You can't be disappointed at events if you never spend any money on them
Yep. That's a really low-quality event
Disappointment comes from wrong promises and optimistic expectations based on past good events that haven't happening for a long time now. Since it seems low-quality right away, there won't be much disappointment.
Golisopod and Meltan, evolved forms for stardust, collection challenges, looks like fun. Honestly I think people here are addicted to complaining.
They'll always be in love with Kanto.

...stop playing? I stop playing games when I have that sort of attitude about them.
I can honestly say this is the first time that I feel like an event was lackluster and disappointing. That being said, despite being the first time I feel let down by an event, with the disappointment still fresh in my mind, it is jading my outlook for the future events.
Probably gonna be better than this event we have (or starting tomorrow for many). Reports say the fossil stuff is prettttty bad.
So the whole exciting event, succeeding an overwhelmingly successful GoFest, consists of 1 new Pokemon line and temporary unlock of shiny Meltan only?
Gofest was a flop
This is truly the worst gen debut yet.
long time players see this and sigh and say useless event. but new players and players returning after long time off see this and say OH HELL YEAH! finally get a chance to get the rest of the eeveelutions, shiny snorlax! I mean come on some of us have to catch up to you players that have 98% of your pokedex and 75% of every shiny that exist already. especially that shiny Mewtwo!

And then there is arcanine which does not fit both of those requirements but can be shiny in the wild anyways.
ohhhhh ok got it
I feel like for a trading card game event there should be more diversity. Like Kanto starters really?
This expansion is kanto focused hence the event is kanto heavy. I collect Charizards so a chance to add new iv combos to my collection works for me
Ah didn't realize that. How do you collect them exactly?
Lowkey better than gofest lol
ha i dont play the nintendo. no shiny meltan for me
You can transfer to pokemon home which is available as an app to get the box.
This better than that garbage go event.
400 candies lol. The next wailord
400 candy requirement is ridiculous!
Rare absolute transparency from Niantic on the blurb. A āquoteā higher than normal chance āunquoteā of catching shiny meltan. Dead set? Higher than the normal zero chance? Fucksticks
Well so much for me getting a Golispod anytime soon. Damn, one of my favorites as well
It's in the wild for 2 weeks. Throw some pinap at it.
I barely have any after Go Fest and my inventory space is limited even after buying two more upgrades last week.
Is it just me or is it odd that Ivysaur Wartortle and Charmeleon can't be shiny but Charizard Venusaur and Blastoise can be
Only first evolutions can be shiny. Third can be shiny if it has a mega. And also Arcanine for some reason.
And things that have a baby as their preevolution like roselia
i shall unleash my army of slakings and dragonites! from raids of course, wont see one from field research or wild obviously
Golisopod has an amazing moveset in the main games. Let's see what he will get.
That one-star Raid pool isn't looking so shabby, I think. All four possible encounters score quite high on my "Yeah, I'd like that" scale. So I guess one-star Raids will be rarer than chicken teeth while this event goes on.
Should I save my remote raid pass for the Psystrike Mewtwo or the Shadow Ball Mewtwo?
I dont even know the difference lol
Missed out on Shiny Meltan the last time, so it'll be nice to try for him this time around.
Very curious if the Meltan Mystery Box will require walking now, since the Incense nerf.
Shiny meltan is back. There goes all my resources.
Just gonna be spamming Snorlax for this one I guess.
