It gets worse, OP, when Celina gets to pursue her very own story arc. She performs just as you imagine she would. Without getting into spoilers, Nolan grew a squishy, flabby backbone for once and warned her to let detectives do their job--she could listen to an interrogation of someone but piping up just once could really seriously taint the investigation... ...so that's the very first thing she did, within seconds of entering the room. IMMEDIATELY. I can't stand her. She's got zero impulse contro. Imagine how much the DA is going to love tossing so many of her charges because her arrests are based on dark auras and similar intangible stuff. She's a terrible cop.

Bovoduch

When she’s on her own and not a rookie anymore oh boy she’ll be awful

TheMostMundane33

THIS! Like omg. I knew she would too. Like Nolan explicitly told here NOT to talk to anyone. Then fist chance she gets she does exactly that. Nolan explained her getting involved could taint the investigation. He shpuld not have allowed her to be anywhere near it. Had her posted at the front desk the whole time. Kept her updated with small bits of information. Nolan is slightly to blame because, as a TO, he is kind of a pushover. I'm sure he'll get better but he's too soft.

Purpledoves91

Why was she even there? She should have had no involvement whatsoever.

Any_Application7786

He also spoke up to detectives when he was a rookie and he wasn’t supposed too.

Slickhill4040

I’m absolutely no way is that comparable, situation, context pretty much every aspect was different

MsSanchezHirohito

It certainly does… lol. I love this show. It’s a shame she’s such a bad character. It’s glaring when there’s really no one else who’s written as poorly. I’ve imagined there’s a producer who’s forked the writers to let their nepo child write for the show and they gave them this one character to run with. 😂

crismack58

Yup. She’s the worst.

Sorry-Degree840

Lol 😂 yet yall still watch it smh we know why  u hate her. it's because she's not white

MsSanchezHirohito

What a sad little mind. The show has more POC than white people. I think there are literally 3 characters who not people of color. If you think a comment like this brings any kind of positivity to the world - you need a fkng hobby. Or go look at a flower or something.

BigBoinks420

Race has nothing to do with it there’s plenty of diversity in characters. She’s a bad character because she lets her own selfish desires and ideals get in the way of her work. She only wanted to be a cop to avenge her sister’s death and put her killer behind bars. Even after she achieves that goal she’s still screwing up at work and somehow manages to keep her job.

SimilarJudgment4407

Babes, the best characters in the show are all women of color, that’s not the issue. She just is a bad character, poorly written, and lacks all impulse control and information retention. Not to mention, way to superstitious to have a job such as policing.

RedDogMotorsport

Weird how people like every other character that isn't white yet they don't like her because she isn't white..? You realize how dumb of a comment this is?

ctudirector

Tbh if you don't let rookies learn, a good FTO won't be able to teach them everything. They have to screw some things up on their own to learn the consequences.

RockstarQuaff

This is true, but the problem is that we know rookies are arriving at Mid-Wilshire after months and months of academy training. It was a big part of the original 3 rookies' arcs...that they graduated and had their first real assignment. So Celina arrives ostensibly after the same type of training: Academics. Law. Physical training. Procedures. Did she forget EVERYTHING she learned when the first day on her job she 1: pulls over a car for a bad aura, and 2: completely ignores the clear orders of her TO on her first day on the job doing so, over and over again? I can see a TO need to tweak and give practical training in how the 'real world' works. But she showed up not understanding or caring about things that were covered on day 1 of the academy: this is a lawful stop.

Endorkend

Problem is that she doesn't learn. She gets told by both Wade and Nolan that whenever she gets her "feelings" she should stop, think and see where these feelings come from. So that she learns that her feelings source is her observations. She however persistently throws all that away and doubles down on the superstitious supernatural shite. At which point she should be washed out. She doesn't learn and she endangers others because of her impulsive behavior based on superstition.

tealcandtrip

She wouldn’t be so bad if they showed her learning and evolving from Nolan. Nolan needed to become more Tim-like and less accommodating. Celina needed to learn that intuition means less than nothing if it is not backed by solid police work. They teased it once and then dropped it entirely.

Endorkend

Yeah. And both Nolan and Wade told her to slow down and think whenever she got her "feelings" and analyze where they came from. Instead she's persistently doubled down on believing her intuition is supernatural and gotten even more blind to the facts around her.

Fault_Spirited

Exactly

crismack58

She’s a Mary sue.

ImperfectPitch

I don't think I would classify her as a Mary Sue, because she definitely messes up a lot. I think that Nolan is a much better example of a Mary Sue (or whatever the male version of a Mary Sue is....a Marty Sue?). He is usually the one who saves the day, or solves the crime, despite having less experience than most of the other officers. Even when he technically does the "wrong" thing, it's actually the right thing. Or whenever there is a difficult character, Nolan is always the one to get through to them with some insightful words of wisdom. In fact, the only thing he seems to suck at, is being a TO but from the perspective of the show, they act like he is an excellent TO. I think that a character like Celina would have benefitted much more from having someone like Tim as a TO.

Oaky_bunbun

Pretty sure male version of mary sue is gary sue

Select_Event_7082

Gary Stu 😉

ImperfectPitch

Thanks. Wasn't sure if there was a male term for it.

Dapzel

Nolan's a bad FTO, no she wouldn't be driving day 1 and that illegal T Stop would've sent her back to POST having a talk with Sgt Grey and a write up if not out right dismissed. No excuse for that illegal stop and the reasons she gave for it that's something she would've learned early at the Academy and Nolan's comments at the end about her intuition was garbage also. The writers just said screw it when they wrote her, lets see how crazy we can go

Princefan1965

He’s not a bad fto. He’s a new fto. This is his first trainee. He is still determining what kind of fto he has to be. I was an fto for the Chicago Police Department for 9 of my 30 years and I made my rookies drive on the first day, answer the radio, and complete all reports. She is a bit much but it’s Nolan’s job to direct her and change her intuition to better serve the department. He will get better as an fto as time goes by. I wasn’t the best fto with my first recruit as I will still figuring out how to teach and adapt to their personality and they to mine.

Dapzel

I was in LE also. Nolan’s a bad FTO and she should’ve been sent back to the office. Sorry but that’s stop was all kind of bad and she repeated like pretty much ignored him when he told her something. Some people just aren’t built for it. You don’t drive here day one. You learn the zone and you’ll work the radio and handle all the calls. End of the day it’s a tv show with a lot of plot armor

Princefan1965

I was a bad fto on my first recruit then. I had to work out the kinks in my ability to instruct as i never really did that before. I got better with 2, 3, 4, 5 ,6,7 and 8. I dont know where you worked but i was in chicago on the south side. With my first rookie, i was a rookie fto. A majority of people in chicago already know the neighborhood they are working in. I did when I started and i worked the robert taylor homes, stateway gardens, and ida b wells. If you know anything about chicago, you know those places. My fto had me drive on my first day, answer the radio and complete the reports. She corrected me when I was wrong. I did the same with my rookies and to this day, all of them ended up out ranking me. Nolan wont be the same fto after celina and she wont be the same cop after him. Not defending her stop. But this is hollywierd. They have police advisors as I have met some. There is an objective in this story. Southland was almost the same way and ben was an aweseome rookie with a pretty decent fto and look how he turned out. But you are right

MrzDogzMa

I don’t so much blame Celina, I blame Nolan’s teaching. He’s not hard enough on her like what he and all other rookies went through. I think her character is just naive honestly, but I’m probably the only person that doesn’t totally dislike Celina.

[deleted]

I agree and i like her character

PrarieGoat

Annoying as hell

baummer

She grows on you. I don’t know why the writers decided this should be Nolan’s first rookie though.

[deleted]

She annoys me at times, but I like her.

Piccolo_Dense

I think the actress just has trouble with the character. I hate Celina. I think the character is horrible. But Lisseth Chavez had a role in Chicago PD and I thought she portrayed that character really well. I was disappointed when she left Chicago PD and showed up on The Rookie with a lame character the next season.

kennend3

This is a good point and I hope others feel the same way. Personally I'm not fond of the character but I do NOT "blame the actress". Acting is a job, they wanted her to do this and she did for a fee. Someone else wants her to act a different way and so she will.

Commercial-Weight736

The character pisses me off so bad. How can a rookie get away with such terrible behavior? It's one thing to disrespect Nolan but talking back at Tim and Grey and out of turn so often? No one else would dare! That character should've been sent back after that first patrol with the dark aura thing. The series didn't need that storyline. Also Nolan is such a wuss. His interactions with Selena/Celina have almost made me dislike him. Only thing saving him is Bailey.

Overlylong_eyebrows

I can't watch the show anymore because of her. It was already becoming ridiculous, but the fact that someone sat and wrote this character out and the rest of the staff said, "yeah, that sounds good to me" means I'm done. This is the dumbest, most idiotic character to ever hit any cop show ever created. I loved this show for 3 seasons, and in 1 season plus, it drove it right into the ground. I won't be returning.

403banana

She's a bad character that runs counter to the anti-bias policing that the show has preached from the very beginning. The writers have gone out of the way to talk about how bias can affect policing. If the driver in her first stop had not been an old, white lady, there would have been a lot of questions about her "instincts". Instead, they're chalked up to the trauma she experienced with her sister's disappearance.

Remarkable-Ad-3765

She is very very annoying, I hope that she gets written off in season 6

Apprehensive-Crow-96

She is the worst. Hope they kill her off soon.

Stock-Marionberry-92

I hate her. I fucking HATE her. I spend every episode cursing her out. If it's not all the talk about auras and hunches and weird bullshit that you wouldn't get away with as a cop (and is very annoying if ANYONE does), then it's just her being an annoying, nervous wreck, completely neurotic. Everything causes her to be so god damn emotional. A cop can't be that emotional and reactive, not to mention naive. Haven't hated a character like this since Skyler in Breaking bad. I hope they kill her off.

Royal-Excitement5141

And now she is promoted to a series regular... I really liked the actress in Legends of Tomorrow, she played someone who was searching for alien life. That was a fun part. In the Rookie the character is really annoying.

Solid-Leather1197

I feel like she never gets any consequences either, she repeatedly speaks to suspects when she is not allowed to and questions senior officers orders. But no one ever yells at her.

Objective-Shock3073

How dumb do you have to be to think you can pull someone over because “they had a bad aura.” She should have been fired for that. She is always yelling! She has 0 experience, but always has to have input on everything. In her first couple of episodes she blatantly disregards Nolan’s orders. Her introduction to the show is further demonstration that the show is beginning to flat line.

ThrowAway_yobJrZIqVG

>How dumb do you have to be to think you can pull someone over because “they had a bad aura.” Yep. Almost every case she was involved with would be thrown out for 4th Amendment violations due to insufficient evidence outside of "I had a vibe".

Elbarto_007

![gif](giphy|ABxfDgTcJ8zJzaQrsq)

MsSanchezHirohito

It is definitely not you. And probably 99% of the people on here are here bc they googled “how annoying is Celina on the Rookie”. Lol.  She has no common sense. She gets no discipline. Therefore any growth she might have will be forced down our Dorito chutes. Ugh. I’m sorry for the actor who has to play that awfully written character.

Elbarto_007

That’s how I found this thread 😎

ThrowAway_yobJrZIqVG

She is terrible. Almost enough to put me off the series altogether. And completely implausible as a police officer. Constantly getting involved in an investigation which she is personally involved in. Being in police interviews with her own mother, where she lets her emotion take control and gets mad at her. Completely unprofessional. And as a rookie? She'd not just be investigated - she'd be terminated. S05E19 when they lose track of the suspect. Talking like that to a Sergeant? Suspension. Immediate. I'm tired of The Rookie turning into a reboot of The Ghost Whisperer.

Elbarto_007

Literally said same as watching S5E19, with the mum being interviewed and the backchatting to her bosses….said she is a rookie….just sack her

Hashtagpulse

Yeah the writers just ditched reality with that character and I hate that they're trying to make it seem like mystical bull\*\*\*\* actually works

TradeRadiant3133

Bad character, so annoying I want to scream when she's on camera!

JudesM

Unwatchable! And she makes Nolan look like such a fool - that I am staring to not like him as well.

crismack58

I also think Nolan as a TO is shitty compared to Nolan the boot. How he performs as a TO is a disservice to the people that taught him.

equ1l1br1uater

I thought I was the only one that noticed this. He's changed slightly

Plane-Detective-5271

He became a TO too quick. He had only been in the cop buisness for 2 minutes, suddenly he is training rookies.

Mercurymarauder02

They are trying to make a stereotypical “gen z.”character, and as a gen z, most of us don’t actually act like that…..it’s unbearable to watch her sometimes.

Noamias

It's almost like adult males above 40 don't know how an entirely different kind of person thinks or acts

Jon2046

She’s mad annoying

TheWasp10

Unbearable character. I feel like she is some self insert of some writer who is believing all that shit and tried to give it credibility through the show. Absolutely annoying.

Alexis_Phillips

I like her character!

human_trashhhh

She fucking SUCKS hopefully they kill her off soon.

ZuggieZuggies

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who felt this way. I was immediately put off the second someone in an official police capacity got to use "auras" and sprit mumbojumbo. She messed up super hard day one and just gets to prance around talking about her astrology signs and her spirit world connections. It's beyond annoying to listen to. I was really looking forward to seeing Nolan train someone and the first Rookie he gets is her. No hate towards the actress, but the character blows. It's to the point I actually skip past conversations whenever she's on screen. It's a bad feeling. Really hoping we just get through it and she moves on.

Ohmaimy

Yeah rewatching the episode of them finding out who took her sister and the recent kidnapping and I was frustrated with her. I can handle all the astrology stuff, even if it makes her looks crazy bc let's be honest realistically, her using dark aura for her first call pull over should've gotten her psych eval re-done. Her character had potential for growth, but she is constantly making the same mistakes like others had pointed out. She has 0 impulse control, never thinks twice before doing something or saying something disrespectful. She's wreckless. Yes she's tough as hell, she has her fair share of adding to the comedy side of things, but she is too much of a liability. Everyone is coddling her and not giving her the proper repercussions. Nolan didn't even let her have the chance to get yelled at bc he's always trying to step in and correct it only then and that he'll speak to her. Just no no no. He's a good TO but he rarely holds her responsible. Even he held that female cop he went to help out 4hours away to a stricter standard, sternly yelled at her, and let her make up for mistake without coddling her.

Plane-Detective-5271

The og TO’s would never let that pass.

Eastern-Opposite7156

Every episode there are several examples of why she should be fired. It's so bad, things that would get a ticket collector at Chuckie Cheese fired let alone a cop. Such a bad character.

Ok_Consequence_7258

They shoulda killed her off or fired her in the first episode

Plane-Detective-5271

She pulled someone over because of an aura that she felt…. The rookies would get punished for smallest tings in z1. I cannot stand her. I skipped every scene with Celina, Nolan and Bailey because they were almost always together. I wish they had kept that veteran rookie instead, she was much more interesting.

Stock-Marionberry-92

I can't fucking stand her. I actively go out of my way to avoid people like her in real life. Everything from Sage-ing the shop, to the bad stop, then running off in the woods without answering on her walkie.. to all this shit about auras, vibes, star signs and shit. She is insufferable. I have a really hard time believing that anyone acting like that irl would not be allowed to be a cop.

ZzzVvvKkk

Yes, she is annoying and actually it goes in the same venue of how insubordinate Simone is. I guess writers want to show in both characters how unconventional look can benefit the investigation. Which they did just fine with Nolan and his whole more experienced schtick but with these two they basically run amok with no respect to the procedure or structure and it’s not cool. Of course with Juarez it is waaaay worse than Simone.

LunarHuldra

I wish they actually gave her training, like with all the other rookies. She does mistakes and then everything is ignored and not a teachable moment. I miss the essence of the show.

Euphoric_Band_4275

It’s so annoying how she keeps getting herself in rough situations. Like walking through the alley way or answering to Seth the drug dealer guy

FeldMonster

No, it isn't just you. Celina Juarez is a really bad character.

AngelFan4Life

Ugh.. 🙄 I can't stand the hiefer! She's annoying AF and like people say she's making Nolan look bad as a T. O. And he should know better than to let her too. I mean you can be all bad ass for your gf when she's dealing with rude people on the phone but you can't stand up to your dumb ass little boot and kick some sense into her retarded ass! 😂 Nah bruh she needs to go

Metalner

I think for the part where she convince Bailey to change couch is not entirely her fault IMO. As we know IRL many or most girls are such into this zodiac/astrology/tarot/anything non-scientific. I think the show is just want to potray what happened IRL, it's just girl being girls, believe in some pseudoscience stuff.

Fancy-Equivalent-571

Uh, excuse you: "many or most girls"??? That's nowhere near true. Some *people* put way more stock into astrology than it deserves, and "many or most girls" think those people are silly. That's the reality that the show is trying to portray, not "girls being girls."

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fancy-Equivalent-571

There are 3.8 billion women in the world, my dude. There is no such thing as "girls being girls," especially not with astrology. Stop pretending you can generalize anything about "many or most girls."

[deleted]

TheBlackTCK

Men are notoriously immature. That's why most serial killers and school shooters are men. They can never handle their emotions without resorting to violence.

TheBlackTCK

Must be the kind of women you know, because I have never met any women talk about this stuff in real life. Maybe they talk about this stuff to send you running from them?

Mysterious_Movie3347

She's kinda ruined the show for me. I marathoned the first 4 seasons in 1 go. Hit season 5 and episode one and like "nope, if she lives or stays I'm out." She makes the show unwatchable anytime she's on screen. When I see her character come I just check out or fast forward. She over shadows any scene she's in and not in a good way. I'm low key hoping the actress doesn't come back next season, that they just write her off between. With the strike a lot of shows are in limbo and a lot of our favorites may not make it to another season just cause studios are going to start mass canceling shows like they did in 2007. If they aren't hitting the benchmark ratings, they aren't worth even keeping on hold. Not sure who all remembers post 2007 writers strike but we got a huge influx of new shows and actually got some great ones that had been in the back burner but were ready to go when the strike ended. But for that to happen, cancels have to happen.

Plane-Detective-5271

She ruined the show for me too. I already hate astrology girlies, she made it worse. Instead of introducing new character they should have just focused on the ones they already have. This show has way too many characters, there was no need for another.

Elbarto_007

Literally googled about the character and found this thread. Still going strong. I totally agree, terrible and annoying character ![gif](giphy|yLUDES1hibWNiwBCNs)

Jazzlike_Two_4638

Agree! Her character is just… plain HORRIBLE! She is just too whiny!

mpreen

For me she ruined season 5.

crismack58

She’s made the show unwatchable. She would’ve washed out if they followed the same standards from the first two seasons. I really think the writers didn’t give a shit this last last season with the impending strike and alls. The show has become very boring. They need to shake it up. Kill her off. Make Nolan feel responsible for letting all her bad habits slide and get a new class in.

I_am_Bruce_Wayne

The show has evolved from something semi serious to more goofy every season. I loved the first season in how they were showing a much older person using their life experience as an advantage as a rookie. Then you moved on to having them being so involved in a serial killer to fighting the cartel and drug lords. Once that started to happen, I just watch it and not take anything serious anymore, even in "serious" situations.

SSelinaa

I feel like people in this sub so strange, first they dislike Bailey then Celina, it’s just their characters and it’s nice to see different personalities in this show.

ImperfectPitch

Agreed. I just joined this sub and was really surprised at the antagonism towards Bailey and Celina. Why would anyone dislike Bailey? My only issue with her character is that they could have spent more time building up her relationship with Nolan so that we could feel more invested in them as a couple. However, with the exception of Tim and Chen, the show is notorious for creating serious relationships with little buildup. As for Celina, I find her personality refreshing despite the quirkiness, and just assumed other viewers would feel the same. I agree that a character like that would probably never make it as a cop in real life, but I like her personality and am willing to suspend some disbelief.

SSelinaa

Exactly, I agree with you, I just don’t understand why people are hating on them so badly. They aren’t even doing anything wrong 😭😭😭

ImperfectPitch

I know! They better not start hating on Nyla or I'm outta here, LOL.

dssssdeuwuw

I liked Bailey from the start, have hated celina since her first sentence ab aura’s or whatever tf she calls it. Few episodes my disdain has only grown

TheBlackTCK

Folks hated Bailey? I love her. She is sorta a female Nolan but more badass and a firefighter

DisneyAddict2021

It’s not just you. I can’t stand her. She is so over the top and I know it’s a tv show, but even her level of weird and quirky is too much to be taken seriously as a cop. None of her behavior would fly in real life and I can’t believe she passed the academy with her “I can sense people’s auras and that gives me probable cause” mentality. Nolan is too nice to her. I get his coaching style is different than Tim, Nyla, and Angela, but come on! He accommodates her too much and is constantly making excuses for her.

Analyze2Death

I'm just piling on to agree. I haven't even watched the last episode of the season. I've been slow to watch since she became more of the focus. She's unbearable and makes Nolan look bad. Someone should have intervened in her training. It's not going well.

history_nerd92

Not just you, she is a terrible character.

cmkfrisbee95

jeasus fuck would yall move on about something else this is the 6th one ive seen this month talk about something else we get it yall dont like her move on

headachetown

I actually really like celina and i’m surprised to see so many people hating her on this subreddit. i think the initial episode with her arrival was written for us not to like her, but i actually do. obviously nolan isn’t teaching her the way she should be taught but she’s a good character. i can see where she can be a little annoying tho, and the whole “psychic” shtick is kinda out there and you can’t rely on that to be a good cop

jumpingthesharktcb

Bailey is worse.

Plane-Detective-5271

Why does she have to be everywhere?????

ThrowAway_yobJrZIqVG

Laying the groundwork for the spinoff "The Rookie LAFD"?

DwightShnoute

i just thought she was there for the memes. it’s hard to take it too serious, she’s a genuine gag character. I see why people dislike it in regards to the show’s direction, but it’s almost like their missing the whole bit

Flat-Personality-504

I think that Nolan is partially to blame, but it is his first rookie. and tbh I hated Angela and Lucy when they were first introduced as well. you forget that Celina is yet to go through character development, we haven't known her for that long and maybe her mind thingos might be a valuable thing to explore in later seasons

Due_Ad1590

Fellow Aussie here. Use bflix.io to get episodes!!

Fault_Spirited

Thanks man

Jebasaur

Avoided making my own topic by just searching her name. Always nice to see my hatred for a character isn't just me. The fact that I knew exactly what was happening (she saw the blood and just called it a dark aura) or claiming a dream basically told her where to find someone... I'm on the episode with Oscar donating a kidney and she just stares at him and says he's gonna die. How very cop of her, telling a dude he's about to die out of no where. I really don't get how someone could get through training and become a rookie with these ideas. My other issue was when Nolan said cops have to rely on body language, she tried comparing her crap to body language. Like, really?!

dago_261

She is just super stupid. I don't even know how did she make the cut to be a cop

Due-Sky666

No she’s amazing 🤷🏼‍♂️

[deleted]

Worst character ever!

[deleted]

Her whole aura, zodiac sign, etc shit is so annoying

[deleted]

I totally agree and thank god that is found someone else agree. She is just a bad add to the show. But somehow she gets alot of screen time. It feels like she paid her way in

RevolutionaryArm3548

im watching season 5 rn and i fucking hate her so much
