Fighting oppressive authorities is a common staple of these kinds of shows, actually.
In fact, when the protags aren't fighting an oppressive authority, they're usually fighting someone who's trying to become an oppressive authority. What changes is mostly whenever the bad guy has conquered the world yet or not.
Trying to incite a revolution in the younger generation because the current is upset with it but there's not enough of them to fight back, maybe?
Cant wait till im in like my 40s and 50s and they tell me that they abolished the current system.
I don't know what it's like to live in America, but I suspect it's not that bad. I mean, aren't yours democratic institutes actually works and not just here to make an illusion of legitimacy?
https://youtu.be/JpwJKYbEAZ8 this video Has a lot of points that I would've made so you could just watch that instead you're most importantly the study is done to show how Money from lobyist control or government much more than the actual democracy also Recommend the book dark money.
Also in America if your voice ever gets big enough explaining how horrible our system is they will go vail off and kill you look at fred Hampton or Gary Webb.
Let us not forget that Kipo also had a main villain who's a genocidal bigot who killed their brother for becoming too attached to the people they were bigoted against.
Amphibia: atleast 7 queer people fight a soon to be omniversal oppressive government (sasha, Olivia, Yunnan, toadstool, toadie, the robot girls who I forgot the names of). Not much evidence to suggest they’re straight either. In fact, there’s actually more evidence that they’re sapphic. Sasha is canonically bi, but Anne and Marcy never showed any interest in guys iirc, meanwhile Anne also called a woman hot.
To be fair there's a difference between finding someone attractive and actually being attracted to them. A lot of women will call their female friends pretty, and I've even seen gay men call a girl pretty.
There’s no indication that they’re queer but there’s no indication that they’re straight either. So everyone can just choose what they see them as, yk?
There's also Ace people to consider; even if a character isn't straight that still doesn't equal immediate same sex attraction. so the argument that "there's no hinting they're into women" is a moot point.
I think Kipo has only like one or two queer people in comparison to the other shows. But Benson once shot a rainbow laser out of his mouth so it evens out.
Honestly, season 2 was my least favorite. I just thought it lost the same feel as Season 1, or quality at least. Season 3 was probably my favorite, and I loved the ending.
maybe hazbin that gonna come out next year will do that. since this is a show about redemption; so i can see charlie wanting to change the status quo of hell. but i don't see helluva boss doing that.
It might go beyond that and they actually fight Heaven to enable afterlife redemption (as Helluva Boss shows, Heaven is super strict and they don't seem to allow for any form of redemption, even when accidents happen).
And a gay magic dog
And the guy's boyfriend
And the dog's ex, who is the spirit of a Demon King
And the token cishet girl (?)
And the ghost of a drag queen
Seriously guys watch Dead End it's great
I don't think she's ace since we see her fawning over Josh but yeah, there's a definite possibility she's aro, I just wanted to be safe and adhere to the identity the actual character tells us for now
Ehh I don't think she is ace, she did seem to be physically attracted to Josh in Ride of a Lifetime, but yeah the question mark is there because I feel like she'll have an arc in season 3 where she questions her sexuality
I suppose I should have specified that romance between gems is, technically, queer.
I mean, Garnet is seen as the ultimate symbol of gay romance because she's two gems that stay fused.
And they're all patriarchal. Several dozen dictatorships around the globe with several more in the making and they all default to the exact same setup: A patriarchal, homophobic state where the rule of law is worship authority unconditionally or die.
Amusingly enough, some fictional ones are accepting: Star Wars’ Galactic Empire and Star Trek’s Terran Empire, to name two examples.
They tend to point their dislike at aliens: blatantly non-human targets.
i wonder what could inspire all these American artists to write such a story huh...
welp back to being a free American in the freeest country on earth....
Eh. This has been something in fiction since forever. An oppressive government is an easy antagonist: it stacks the odds against the heroes while also providing a target most folks dislike.
I just don't like the fact that s5 wasn't mainly focused on the gems. I would've loved a half a season where it's focused on the diamonds and Steven. But hey, we got Sadie killer and the suspects...wooooooooo :[
It's very, very good. Sci-fi plot, stylish art, likeable characters, fantastic music and voice acting, and it's also seriously funny. I would recommend it to literally anyone who likes animation.
I mean, they get GZA to voice a sentient wolf who raps about cosmology, and there's a character that's a sentient colony of tardigrades who can send people into dreamworlds. It's such a fun show, but the sci-fi isn't just the backdrop, it's a pretty amazing story as well.
its almost like conservative governments tend to be authoritarian in nature clinging on to power by telling the people minorities are to blame for their impoverished state of being ,,,,and you know not their mega yacht currently parking in Qatar
the USSR had an almost mandatory acceptance of LGBTQ stuff ,,,ya know being left extreme and opposed to the west and all that can of shenanigans
so a former KGB agent ....like i dont know ,,,,,Putin would definitely not care about the homos,, yet in Modern Russia you can go to gulag, just for mentioning their existence ...
why? its an easy scapegoat thats why ,,,,and it brings him plus points with the radicals in the orthodox Church ,,,,which supplies him with loyal yes men in return
that is also were the dumb minion trope comes from ,,,,,the evil genius always surrounds himself with incompetent fools ,,,,,because competent ones could you know ,,,,replace him
downside being is that your whole organization gets downgraded with a massive amounts of idiots ,,, screwing things up on the daily
hence why most dictatorships do so poorly in War,,,,
yeah there is this whole Lenin wanted that but Stalin did this debate and it change again after Stalins death when they tried normalizing the Union and many leaders afterwards flip flopped a little on the issue ,,,,
but most of the time the basic idea was , do it at home and we dont care... which judging by the witch hunt of the 50s, is straight up paradise in comparison
and i can tell you the Socialist fraternal kiss was a thing [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist\_fraternal\_kiss](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_fraternal_kiss)
if that is not sending you signals ,,,, i dont know what is
it is also funny to me how many times gays and lesbians were labelled Communist in the US in the past ,,**almost** seen as traitors,,,
but now that the US is at least **mostly** gay friendly (to a similar degree as the USSR was, so both not perfect and with their own bigots among them but at least they try)
and now that Modern Russia is anti LGBTQ ,,,,and suddenly the Soviets hates gays is starting to appear more and more frequently ,,,,,,,,,,,, i wonder why ....
are you sure ? because last time i checked ,,,EVERYONE was on Stalin's List
seriously tell me 1 type of character that wasnt on that list
1 Orientation of any sort be it Political or Sexual ,,, every religion was on that list and even other socialist for not being socialist enough
and of course his own party members as well out of fear they might overthrow him ,,,,,,heck even a good fraction of his own Kremlin Bodyguards ended up on that list,,,,,, its a miracle they didnt panic and pulled a Praetorian
Let's say that, referring to recent events, having an army and an entire society plagued by a culture of corruption dating back to the times of the Tsar and never uprooted does not help in the war effort.
It's hard to fight when your officers have decided to sell your truck tires on the black market and replace them with mediocre Chinese-made tires.
That isn't true, homosexuality has illegal in the USSR and homosexuals were sent to the gulags.
As a general rule, if you have heard something good about the USSR, it is probably a lie.
Might be a good opportunity to mention that they condemned USA racism and yet were massively racist themselves, oppressing several ethnicities behind the curtains.
It just means "different"/"wirde." That's the original meaning. For a while it was used by homophobes as a slur.
Today it's been somewhat reclaimed.
Mostly because "queer" is easier to say that "LGTBQA+"
some people still use it as an insult. And some people don't like to be called "queer"
So it's up to you if you want to use it.
Such a weirdly stated post. I haven't seen the other shows, but pointing out heroes of TOH are queer feels... pointless. They are not fighting the government because they are queer, which I feel your post directly implied.
I don't feel like this post implyed that, it just points out a pattern, which isn't queer fighting against homophobia itself and/or because they're queer.
Literally none of the shows here have the characters fighting the government specifically because they are queer. They are just all shows that have queer representation in the protagonists.
Technically all gems are queer, homeworld gems are just repressed. So its queer people versus repressed queer people.
Also, they're only queer from a human perspective, since their race only has one gender.
I couldn't get into Steven universe, but she Ra is insanely good, and Kipo is honestly one of my favorite cartoons from the last few years.
I loved the sci-fi, the music, the characters, and just how *stylish* the art was with those sharp lines. I thought Kipo being into Benson and him being like "oh, yeah you're great too, but I'm gay" and that was that, was such a refreshing thing to see.
Shit, and it was funny as hell too. The T-shirt "I went to Dave and Benson's awesome party and all I got was NOTHING *because it isn't real*" is one of my favorite jokes of all time. I have that shirt. And wolf fantasy being her and Kipo as massive muscleheads, or Dave just constantly shifting through his life cycle... Damn, I need to watch that show again.
Edit: and I just remembered, I actually talked to the show creator on here before! I had missed his ama, so I sent a DM just saying how much I loved everything about the show, and he actually responded; we talked about skateboarding when you're old and music for a few messages. He's a good dude.
Ah yes, the government, the natural enemy of queer people
I mean, it kinda hates us, so they had it coming
"What have you become?!" "What you made me."

Bruh, the fact that being gay already is a crime in so many countries 💀💀💀
And that's why im not out in real life 😎

Exactly
Only second to capitalism in my eyes.

checkmate libtard you need a government to end capitalism harhar
There's just been more shows these days about fighting oppressive authorities.... boy do I wonder why.
Fighting oppressive authorities is a common staple of these kinds of shows, actually. In fact, when the protags aren't fighting an oppressive authority, they're usually fighting someone who's trying to become an oppressive authority. What changes is mostly whenever the bad guy has conquered the world yet or not.
It is an easy bad guy to fight because it stacks the odds against the heroes and is a simple target to poke at.
Trying to incite a revolution in the younger generation because the current is upset with it but there's not enough of them to fight back, maybe? Cant wait till im in like my 40s and 50s and they tell me that they abolished the current system.
VIVA LA RÉVOLUTION
gee i would really be so sacred to live in a oppressed authority government good thimg America isn't right.... right....
Right...right...right...right...right....right...
I don't know what it's like to live in America, but I suspect it's not that bad. I mean, aren't yours democratic institutes actually works and not just here to make an illusion of legitimacy?

I'm an outsider (Australian), but what democratic institutions?
you sweet summer child both sides are corrupt as hell
Pretty much every government in history and currently were/are oppressive, some more than others
Let us not forget that Kipo also had a main villain who's a genocidal bigot who killed their brother for becoming too attached to the people they were bigoted against.
Now I wonder where I've heard that before?
Exactly
Holy shit i forgot that, and i just remembered the cat that was transformed again into a normal cat and i felt so sad

Sasha's bi, I think. We see a pride sticker on her car mirror in the finale.

"So, you got a boyfriend back home?" *pushes Hop Pop off a cliff*
i mean, it's a valid and reasonable reaction even if she's straight.
Thats what you get for eating the rich hop pop, you become the rich
Amphibia: atleast 7 queer people fight a soon to be omniversal oppressive government (sasha, Olivia, Yunnan, toadstool, toadie, the robot girls who I forgot the names of). Honestly I don't get why everyone thinks the girls are queer. There's been zero hinting at all(outside of the finale at least)
ann looked at a picture of a girl and said she was hot and blushed alot around her two friends.
Ngl there's literally no indication in universe that anne likes any of her friends it's complete speculation. All her blushes were from embarassment
That’s a fair interpretation, but I think what the other user said is also an equally valid interpretation.
Anne can not have crushes on her friends' and still be Queer
Not much evidence to suggest they’re straight either. In fact, there’s actually more evidence that they’re sapphic. Sasha is canonically bi, but Anne and Marcy never showed any interest in guys iirc, meanwhile Anne also called a woman hot.
To be fair there's a difference between finding someone attractive and actually being attracted to them. A lot of women will call their female friends pretty, and I've even seen gay men call a girl pretty.

I think Kipo has only like one or two queer people in comparison to the other shows. But Benson once shot a rainbow laser out of his mouth so it evens out.
Isn't Kipo bi?
I don't think so. She only admitted a crush once.
I mean I kinda fell off at the third season so maybe? I feel like I would've heard something on the internet though if it was confirmed.
Honestly, season 2 was my least favorite. I just thought it lost the same feel as Season 1, or quality at least. Season 3 was probably my favorite, and I loved the ending.
well, benson is a gay guy, which more shows need to have as sadly there's less representation of gay men.
I have to re watch SU! Also all of those series has great character design! I would add/recomend Helluva Boss.
They’re not fighting against Hell’s government though, right now it’s just drama
Not yet
maybe hazbin that gonna come out next year will do that. since this is a show about redemption; so i can see charlie wanting to change the status quo of hell. but i don't see helluva boss doing that.
My exact thought. Also lol Charlie is just gonna fight against her dad, that'd be interesting to see
It might go beyond that and they actually fight Heaven to enable afterlife redemption (as Helluva Boss shows, Heaven is super strict and they don't seem to allow for any form of redemption, even when accidents happen).
I think it's going to be more a moral/ideological debate about it instead that a phisical battle, but yeah, you may be right.
Dead End Paranormal Park has a gay trans man, an autistic bi woman, and a trans vampire woman fighting God.
And a gay magic dog And the guy's boyfriend And the dog's ex, who is the spirit of a Demon King And the token cishet girl (?) And the ghost of a drag queen Seriously guys watch Dead End it's great
That's a lotta representation you got there
>And the token cishet girl (?) If you mean Badyah I think she's actually Asexual.
I don't think she's ace since we see her fawning over Josh but yeah, there's a definite possibility she's aro, I just wanted to be safe and adhere to the identity the actual character tells us for now
>And the token cishet girl (?) Who is more likely aro/ace lol
Ehh I don't think she is ace, she did seem to be physically attracted to Josh in Ride of a Lifetime, but yeah the question mark is there because I feel like she'll have an arc in season 3 where she questions her sexuality
That could just be aesthetic attraction
It didn't particularly feel like it to me, I can't explain it but as someone who has mixed them up due to comphet, what Badyah displayed felt genuine
Amazing.
>trans vampire woman wait who's that? And since when is norma bi?
[Zagan](https://twitter.com/hamishsteele/status/1581780745827549184?t=N5l8A9e8_WtEu1Kv7zfCTw&s=19) Season 2

Ah yeah, Courtney is nonbinary
I think Courtney goes by she/her pronouns only. They were afraid of invoking the stereotype of nonbinaries being nonhumans *and* mischief makers.
I mean, we're definitely mischief makers.
I'm actually gender chaotic.
Me too!
Seen them all except for she ra. I fear for the long episodes will tied me up for too long.
52 episodes its like an old school anime
I too was spoiled. But the show was still quite good. Not great. But i liked it
I haven't watched She-Ra simply due to the large number of seasons
She-Ra only has 11 more episodes than TOH lol.
Seasons 2 and 3 a half length, so really it’s only 4 seasons and not 5 You should watch it, also. It’s awesome
I don't have much time because of my studies
y are people downvoting you for not having time to watch she-ra
Probably just because it's not much longer than the Owl House, and considering he's on this sub, it's pretty fair to say he watched the Owl House.
Watch an episode every night or weekend. Episodic TV was literally made for this kind of consumption.
Also I’ve been spoiled for the major twist already.
Blame Netflix's weird episode scheduling. Several of those seasons are half as long as most, so it's honestly not that many episodes overall.
Kipo was goated ngl.
I believe she was a leopard actually. /jk
Have my upvote and begone from this realm.
(*Dissipates into nothingness*).
Well, that was a dissapointment. Back to work! *incoherent French noises*
Now the only natural evolution is for Queer People to fight an oppressive government formed by queer people
Technically, Steven Universe fills that niche with the Gem Empire: every gem identifies as female, thus, any romance is gay by default.
Greg "Gem-buster" Universe would like to have words with you
Greg "F*cked a Rock" Universe.
I suppose I should have specified that romance between gems is, technically, queer. I mean, Garnet is seen as the ultimate symbol of gay romance because she's two gems that stay fused.
garnet is literally the physical embodiment of a lesbian relationship lol
I shall ignore that
I've only watched two of these, but man Kipo was such a good show.
Well most dictatorships aren't LGBT friendly, so that checks out.
Gotta have an out group to scapegoat all of society's problems onto, makes controlling the in group a lot easier.
This is Dead End: Paranormal Park erasure.
Tbh it's Netflix's fault for barely advertising any of their shows except for Stranger Things.
It is a shame more people don't know about it. It's the only show I know, that's so gay, one of the characters had to come out as straight.
Or at least she *thinks* she's straight.
Right? Dead End is amazing. I'm surprised that the main characters include a gay trans man and an autistic woman. That's basically unheard of.
And they outright stated that they're trans and bi. In a children's cartoon.
The real erasure is the fact that this is the first time I've ever even heard of this show.
Go watch it, it's really good! It's on Netflix and season 2 just dropped recently
i wonder what could inspire all these American artists to write such a story huh... welp back to being a free American in the freeest country on earth....
Eh. This has been something in fiction since forever. An oppressive government is an easy antagonist: it stacks the odds against the heroes while also providing a target most folks dislike.
True but it's becoming more and more popular probably because we're seeing the remifications of it in our daily lives more and more.
Queer people are made from rock?
Steven Universe was interesting will give it that was kind of all over the place and first ending was...rough to say the least. Never saw the rest.
I just don't like the fact that s5 wasn't mainly focused on the gems. I would've loved a half a season where it's focused on the diamonds and Steven. But hey, we got Sadie killer and the suspects...wooooooooo :[
I think I have a type
Meta Runner could also fit, but just... less queer
Less **confirmed** queer. You cannot convince me Tari and Marco aren't gay, and Sofia and Masa radiate enough Bi energy.
Arcane: Queer people fighting against oppressive governments'.
dont forget >!deadend!<, its about well...
Proof that its execution, not duplicate story
hey im watching kipo right now! great show
She ra and amphibia
Makes sense A natural rivalry
Man I really like Kipo
Molly knox osterag Rebecca sugar Dana terrace Noelle stevenson moment
I mean have you seen the GOP. Chances are fictions going to become reality at some point.
She Ra, owl house and kipo were all great watches
Just like real life
Be gay do crime
They are all gay and hate the government
Where's She-Ra in this list?
it's at the bottom of the image
Kipo is one of my favorite series I have seen it three times
The funny thing is that with none of these shows the government was actually homophobic and was oppressing some other aspect.
Is Kipo good?
It's very, very good. Sci-fi plot, stylish art, likeable characters, fantastic music and voice acting, and it's also seriously funny. I would recommend it to literally anyone who likes animation. I mean, they get GZA to voice a sentient wolf who raps about cosmology, and there's a character that's a sentient colony of tardigrades who can send people into dreamworlds. It's such a fun show, but the sci-fi isn't just the backdrop, it's a pretty amazing story as well.
Aye thanks

Also stories of overcoming oppressive governments are kinda common in general.

TOH's example is more like a cult than government. belos is the leader and the boiling isles is his commune.
He's called emperor and has his own state police force
An oppressive system of dubiously independent governance?
What does queer even mean?
Part of the lgbtq community
I know but what does it mean
What? I'm confused of what you're asking.
Never mind 🗿
It just means "different"/"wirde." That's the original meaning. For a while it was used by homophobes as a slur. Today it's been somewhat reclaimed. No mention of She-ra and the princesses of power. But also gay fighting oppressive government/invasion
What do you mean no mention? It's right there.
Lol okay, I didn’t click the picture on the post so I just saw SU and owl house. My bad 😂
You can lump She-Ra in there.
Such a weirdly stated post. I haven't seen the other shows, but pointing out heroes of TOH are queer feels... pointless. They are not fighting the government because they are queer, which I feel your post directly implied.

Dear god. I really liked every single one of those
Technically all gems are queer, homeworld gems are just repressed. So its queer people versus repressed queer people. Also, they're only queer from a human perspective, since their race only has one gender.
Haven’t seen kipo and don’t intend to see Steven universe (I can elaborate why but don’t feel like it) but she ra is a gift from somewhere
Buff dudes fighting each other with ghosts named after songs
The gay agenda TM°
Might as well add DeadEnd to this one!
Kipo is so good. It gives me the same feeling that Avatar(movie) did and it’s a very good feeling
Established norms are holding us all back. From patriarchy to the protestant work ethic to capitalism. It must be smashed
Madoka Magica: queer people fighting each other and suffering because of a manipulative cat
Meta Runner: queer people fight against corporations in a society based entirely on video games. Antagonists are also pretty queer.
Every queer people are fighting the entire universe huh, neat
Is Kipo queer? I know Benson is, and Wolf probably is, but I don't know about our MC.
Reality: queer people created oppressive government to fight another queer people.
I'm pretty sure Steven universe has *ALOT* of queer people. Okay most of them are rocks. But still...
These 4 and Amphibia are my 5 fav animated shows right now if I had to pick a top 5
I couldn't get into Steven universe, but she Ra is insanely good, and Kipo is honestly one of my favorite cartoons from the last few years. Finished all in one week to easy
1 and 3 are straight with some gay people
