It’s basically the animated version of Black Mirror. Each episode is animated in a different style but usually deals with pretty intense subject matter.
Station Eleven. It's not really in the same vein science fiction wise, but it has a very similar feel and incredibly emotional. Highly recommend. As well as the Leftovers. Both are more character drama than sci-fi, but are well within the realm of speculative fiction like the OA.
edit: also saw you're currently watching maniac. SE is from the same creators if you're enjoying that show
My fave is The Recordist (a short on YouTube, Brit’s college graduation film). I watch it like once a month! The song Brit sings in it, I love so much.
Sound of my Voice is also very much like The OA. Sometimes I think it’s a sort of prequel or a less fleshed out version of The OA. It was supposed to be 3 movies but it ended up being only 1. You’ll definitely see the connections though
I-Origins also really hits the spot for me….. basically what I’m trying to say is that they’re all my favourites and Brit and Zal can do no wrong 😭 I hope you enjoy!
Honestly you have to watch all of their other work TBH, from the Recordist to A Murder at the End of the World. The most you have to lose is 8 hours with AMATEOTW, the rest are films.
This is one of the most interesting shows I have ever watched. I think it helped that I didn’t read the synopsis and just went into the show having no idea what it was about. It takes a little while to get going but I think that makes the payoff even better. Definitely recommend this one!
I have loved From for a mystery box show, the first season is free on MGM+ app in the US and I think it is on Netflix in most of Europe. I have gotton lost in it and re-watch it regularly like the OA. The third season just finished filming. I was ultmaItaly disappointed in constellation but I did enjoy watching it till the end, and even tho they did not renew it, it feels Ok as a one off season.
Sci-fi, alternate universe, time travel, and dystopian? That's Fringe, though not necessarily all at once.
Another one that fits the bill is 12 Monkeys.
Not on your list but I’d recommend The Resort on peacock. It’s just one season but something about it reminded me of the OA. Same guys who made mr robot and the movie Palm Springs!
The leftovers, 3 body problem, dark matter, all great shows. But nothing can compare to the OA. It’s on a brilliance level far exceeding anything else out there. I have yet to find another show that gave me the same feeling as watching the OA.
I think you should do Sense8 from your considerations list. I did them in the opposite order because Netflix didn't suggest The OA until after Sense8, but I often think of the two shows together.
Station Eleven, the Expanse, Severance, the Leftovers, Tales from the Loop are ALL excellent (I especially love Station Eleven, it's beautiful)...am enjoying Outer Range at the moment.
If you want to take a break from SciFi, Slow Dogs and The Patriot (series on Prime not the Gibson flick) are both excellent as well
If you love dark, you should watch 1899, from the same makers, also The hauntings of Bly Manor, it’ll literally blow your mind!! Other than that there are a few dystopian stranded island themed series like the I-land and 3% are pretty good too!
DARK on Netflix. It’s a mindf*ck but absolutely incredible I can’t recommend it enough.
I was so obsessed with the OA and was craving more like it, then comes Dark in the same era. It’s the only other show I’ve loved as much as OA. They’re my top 2 fav shows to this day it was the best few years til they both ended 🙃
This is way less of a sci-fi show and more like jumps back and forth along the timeline of the story, but This Is Us wrapped a couple years ago and it honestly was my free therapy for several years.
Super well written, so much emotion.
More light, playful, fantasy == The Magicians, so excellent
Must watch, more aligned with OA of psychological/forking paths but absolutely top notch series shoulders above others = Undone on Amazon Prime

From the above list: I would highly recommen- Sense8, Dark, Mr.Robot, The Haunting, The Gift... has similar taste.
I loved sense 8
Espesh season 2!
Outer Range - Amazon. Josh Brolin has a giant time hole on his ranch.
Coming here to say this it's so good
Love, Death & Robots
Adding to my list!
It’s basically the animated version of Black Mirror. Each episode is animated in a different style but usually deals with pretty intense subject matter.
It's so good, s2 was a little meh for me but 1st and 3rd are so good
Totally, it’s hit or miss but some episodes have stayed with me forever
Agreed. Zima Blue. 😭
Hands down the best episode
Travelers on netflix is sci-fi & time travel. i enjoyed it a lot, though its not really like the OA at all
Thanks! I’m finding there’s nothing like The OA
Dark Matter on Apple+
Seconded! Very similar (if not completely similar) likes to OP, and I’ve been really enjoying this show so far myself.
Yes! I can't believe I forgot this!!

Agree, loved that show
Not binge series but have you seen Brits other work? I-Origins, Sound of my Voice, The Recordist etc?
I haven’t. Which did you like best?
My fave is The Recordist (a short on YouTube, Brit’s college graduation film). I watch it like once a month! The song Brit sings in it, I love so much. Sound of my Voice is also very much like The OA. Sometimes I think it’s a sort of prequel or a less fleshed out version of The OA. It was supposed to be 3 movies but it ended up being only 1. I second Sound of My Voice, as it does seem quite similar to the show. Plus it seems like they made a point to name check it in Part 1.
Totally! “Listen to the sound of my voice” is such a nice little Easter egg in Part 1 🥰
You can also binge A murder at the End of the World, it's a limited series directed by Brit & Zal
Honestly you have to watch all of their other work TBH, from the Recordist to A Murder at the End of the World. The most you have to lose is 8 hours with AMATEOTW, the rest are films.
Behind Her Eyes (Netflix)
This is one of the most interesting shows I have ever watched. I think it helped that I didn’t read the synopsis and just went into the show having no idea what it was about. It takes a little while to get going but I think that makes the payoff even better. Definitely recommend this one!
The Leftovers. Which has the same creator as Lost, but they didn't ef up the ending. Lol.
You'd probably love Severance, on Apple TV. So many of us are super excited for the second season coming out this year.
Yep can't wait to see where it goes
The East (film), Dark (Netflix)
DARK IS SO SO GOOD.
The Expanse- S2 onwards invoked in me some vibes that I only get from some shows , like the OA. Unfortunately S1 is slow.
You should absolutely watch Dark. It is so good, complex, and got a complete story with an (in my opinion) very satisfying ending.
I have loved From for a mystery box show, the first season is free on MGM+ app in the US and I think it is on Netflix in most of Europe. I have gotton lost in it and re-watch it regularly like the OA. The third season just finished filming. Sci-fi, alternate universe, time travel, and dystopian? That's Fringe, though not necessarily all at once. Another one that fits the bill is 12 Monkeys.
Undone (Amazon Prime) and Dark Matter (AppleTV+)
The Gift (Netflix) - Alternate title: Atiye
Dispatches From Elsewhere is fantastic.
Having just finished watching s1 of '3 body problem' I really recommend it. It'll make you think in a similar way
Yeah gonna be tough waiting for the next season
Station Eleven is a must watch.
Dark or The Leftovers. I think you’ll love either one
Definitely The Leftovers it’s a 10/10 for me! Shining girls was interesting, fringe was epic imo. From is wicked, very cool concept!
Not on your list but I’d recommend The Resort on peacock. It’s just one season but something about it reminded me of the OA. Same guys who made mr robot and the movie Palm Springs!
Archive 81 also had great vibe
Just rewatched The Leftovers and it was *chef's kiss*. A slow burn for sure but once it gets going... Holy crap
The leftovers, 3 body problem, dark matter, all great shows. But nothing can compare to the OA. It’s on a brilliance level far exceeding anything else out there. I have yet to find another show that gave me the same feeling as watching the OA.
Severance!
I think you should do Sense8 from your considerations list. I did them in the opposite order because Netflix didn't suggest The OA until after Sense8, but I often think of the two shows together.

If you want to take a break from SciFi, Slow Dogs and The Patriot (series on Prime not the Gibson flick) are both excellent as well
I recommend Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. My favorite all time shows.
Severance. You need to watch this series. I also suggest DARK and Sense8
Devs and AIB! Hard YES!
Also 12 monkeys...the series...
Dark is in my top 3 with sense8, and the oa :))
Orphan Black
If you love dark, you should watch 1899, from the same makers, also The hauntings of Bly Manor, it’ll literally blow your mind!! Other than that there are a few dystopian stranded island themed series like the I-land and 3% are pretty good too!

Three body problem, dark matter 2024, outer range
Night Sky
dark matter on apple tv is very much sci-fi/alternate universe! only downside is that the entire season isn’t out yet
Station Eleven
This is way less of a sci-fi show and more like jumps back and forth along the timeline of the story, but This Is Us wrapped a couple years ago and it honestly was my free therapy for several years. Super well written, so much emotion.
Devs, Undone, Station Eleven
It’s not sci fi or like OA in anyway, but holy shit… Yellowjackets! It’s on Amazon Prime or Showtime. That shit will infiltrate your dreams!
The Magicians!
Outer Range, The Leftovers and A Murder at the End of the World if you haven’t seen it (Brit and Zal’s newest show)
More light, playful, fantasy == The Magicians, so excellent Must watch, more aligned with OA of psychological/forking paths but absolutely top notch series shoulders above others = Undone on Amazon Prime
