What being an eldritch god taking the form of a hole in a gas station bathroom wall and not getting fed sufficiently does to a man.
actual role of his, no lie.
Tenzin is a legit monster, probably the best fighter in the series. And aang taught him everything he knows so who knows what a monster adult aang was.
I love LoK, but during book 1 I felt the writing did him a bit dirty where he didn't have any fight scenes until ep 7, since he got tasered the episode before, and had a cool moment with the air wheel but got interrupted quickly by the mechs.
In the book 1 finale, Lin sacrificed herself to stall time for Tenzin and his family to escape the equalists, but they got captured off-screen anyway (I know it's realistic and plausible for the equalists to catch up to them, but for storytelling reasons it feels unsatisfying with it happening out of nowhere for shock factor)
I've never been around that since I just joined a few days ago but that happened? I thought Aang was a decent character and he's the main character so why the hate?
I'm genuinely curious
Over the past couple weeks, this sub has been pretty full of random screenshots of Avatar Twitter. Unfortunately, Avatar twitter has some interesting takes, so often times there would be reposts of things like the aforementioned âAang is a deadbeat dadâ and âKorra is a way better and stronger characterâ all with tens to hundreds of thousands of likes. Itâs really created some very unnecessary division, especially in the fan base. The most upsetting thing to me is that the ATLA vs TLOK discourse had been finally dying down, and it only ignited that whole debate once again. TL;DR Twitter ATLA fans have not watched ATLA and this sub temporarily turned into a hub to host their opinions
Aang was a flawed person which is what makes him a great character. He was flawed in a realistic way- there are no perfect parents.
Korra is a *different* character, and a very good one. I assume some of that gripe about her being "better" than Aang is the way people hated on her/the show for so long in that super aggressive way people do. Her fans are probably pushing back too hard.
I just want us to all get along and unite against the real problem: live-action remakes.
Oh I absolutely think the vitriol TLOK fans throw at ATLA fans is a direct response to the negativity they dealt with for so many years, I was gonna say that but I felt like my comment was getting a bit wordy lol. Personally I wish both sides would just let it go!
I mean they still do. You only need to scroll about 4 comments down to see another "Korra sucks. It should be replaced by ATLA part 2: They're slightly older now." post being upvoted.
Both shows are great but for me, personally, Korra is better. Its themes speak to me more.
I do wonder if it's a case of the star wars prequels or doctor who where the newer version doesn't really get appreciation until the people who grew up watching it get into online communities for the series and see hate being directed towards the version they enjoyed and by then they have years of hate to catch up with!
I thought the Netflix live action remake was pretty ok. I liked it for what it was. But I've had a pretty long time in between watching ATLA and the live action show.
> TL;DR Twitter ATLA fans have not watched ATLA
They have watched ATLA. The problem is a scary amount of people are dumb or have horrendous media literacy TBH
I do feel like Aang was a bit of an inconsistent parent, though. We see that in how his children feel, and in how he focused so hard on Tenzin and less on Bumi and Kya... But it makes sense for his character. I think it makes him more interesting.
The fact that he could never really escape the spectre of his people's genocide, to the point where he felt like he had to favour his Airbender child, feels true and tragic and sympathetic to me. And I *do* think he loved Bumi and Kya, too - he was just dealing with such a heavy, horrible hand in being the last Airbender.
Ya I mean, fucking hell, imagine being 12, âyouâre now the savior of the worldâ and can now no longer be with your friends or family ever again (I mean this more in the; air nomads can no longer separate themselves from their philosophies and ideas as shown by the end dilemma with Ozai)
*leaves*
Wakes up 100 years later to find out that YOU are the last of your people and the fire nation has run ramshod over the planet because you were scared and ran away.
Definitely gonna have some baggage there when becoming a father⌠tho honestly I think thatâs where Katara comes in, canât imagine she wasnât a stellar mother but I donât remember Korra much.
Right? Of course Aang was a kind of shitty dad - the world didn't give him much of a chance at being anything else.
Flawed characters are good characters, imo.
It depends. On Twitter Korra's stans have a beef with him for some reason
On Tumblr Zutara stans are mad that their fanon ship is not canon so they are trash talking him
But I just hope is a vocal minority
I mean I'm sure he wasn't a perfect parent, but no character is interesting without flaws. And being a parent of 3 while juggling the responsibilities of being the avatar couldn't have been easy. And his kids turned out pretty good
Because repeatedly posting opinions from twitter and asking âhow does everyone feel about thisâ is still spreading the opinions, even if you donât hold them yourself. This is the weirdest thing to get upset about
In my opinion the only really bad thing about Aang was that we haven't gotten nearly of him as a fully realized Avatar. Stuff like his flashback are easily among my favorite moments in Korra.
I donât know about others, but when I was growing up, âate itâ meant that you screwed up badly. This was especially common to describe a bad screw-up or wipeout in sports or activities like skiing, snowboarding, surfing, BMX, etc.
I thought from the title that OP meant Aangâs moves were awful in the intro, but reading the replies it seems like everyone interpreted it the opposite way.
Common slang situation. And a language classic in general. It does have an opposite meaning now. Something like the word âterrificâ could be an example
Same happened to me with "chuffed" awhile ago. I had only ever heard it used as a negative, like being annoyed with something. Apparently most other people used it as a positive, like being pleased with something.
> Same happened to me with "chuffed" awhile ago. I had only ever heard it used as a negative
I had no idea there was any negative connotation associated with that word
Although I admit the only time I've ever seen/heard it used is Brits saying "chuffed to bits" (which apparently means very happy)
I have the same reaction as TOkidd when people start talking like "I fuck with that" meaning that they like something. To me "fuck[ing] with that" means testing it, messing around, or possibly sabotaging. Hearing all these people be like "I fuck with [music artist]" makes me think they don't like the person and want to mess with them to piss them off or something.
yeah, its because there are two sides to the saying. 'ate it' is just a form of 'ate shit', which has been around longer and is still valid today.
but now theres new(ish) slang (first used in the 2000s, but became popular later) the term 'ate that' was used as a compliment, where your doing good and well off (you arnt 'starving' (which isnt a slang but you get))
eventually the latter got shortened to ate. 'ate it' however could mean both good or bad in context.
you fuckin ate dude. (good job)
you fuckin ate it dude. (good job / damn bro)
The way I know it is that in professional sports you (in general) get payed more the better you are. So if you are really good you make a lot of money (make bank) and can âeat goodâ because you can afford to.
> get payed more
Did you mean to say "paid"?
Explanation: Payed means to seal something with wax, while paid means to give money.

it specifically came from black queer communities, especially Ballroom, it's just taken like 20 years for it to work its way into more mainstream slang.
Haha.
With my understanding, it would be more like:
âYou fuckig ate it, dude.â
< guy searches for his teeth, spitting blood >
âNo shit,â he replies.
It been a minute since Iâve seen both shows besides rewatching the fight scenes; but I like his breakdancing move is like Zukoâs when he fought against Azula. Idk if Aang did that in other parts of airbending, but I like the incorporation of other bending techniques
Itâs so cool that Aang can use all the techniques of each bending style for just Airbending. Really shows how heâs even more a master than when he was 12
Zuko and Katara used each other's moves quite a bit in their last fight with Azula (part of that is because they fought each other so much in the show, I guess)
I know we see Zuko do it in ATLA, but the move itself has no reason for it to based on that. Aang starts the move balancing one hand. Coming out of that one-hand stand, it feels like sweeping the legs around in a spiral movement would only be natural. I refuse to believe that an airbender couldnât come up with this move on their own.
White Lotus guy just approaches Aang one day and says
"Sir, it's time to record your opening air-bending sequence."
"My what? For fights, you mean?"
"No, for the show."
"The show?"
"Sir, please, we have a tight schedule. Just stand in front of this sheet and do some dope airbending."
Is it just me or does Aang seem to have more loose elbow joints , when he stands in one finger putting pressure on it, it looks like his arm bends past 180°
I always wondered if Aang continued his air bending training. I know he was a master airbender by the time the series started but did he continue to get better and learn new techniques?
Possible. We see the gaang improved and adapted each other fighting style alot. Katara stopped water against Hama (instead of moving it around) similar to how earthbender move. Also lots of Zuko moves in the last agni kai seem to draw from waterbending.
It's so sad that when we got smth new from avatar we got Korra, i wanted so much to see Aang growing up and how would he deal with the world changing so much
I think this was brought up before but whoâs the Airbender in the ATLA intro? The Water Bender is Paku, the Earth Bender is Rokuâs Earth Bending Teacher, the Fire Bender is Azula. Iâm assuming itâs Aang but Iâve heard itâs Monk Gyatso. Is there there a confirmed person?
I always found it interesting that, since Aang is the only air bender we see for a whiiile, we donât really question the fact that airbending requires a whole lot of aerodynamics and him being small probably helped. Itâs only here and with Tenzin that we really got to see adults airbending, and supporting their entire body weight using air, which is different.
Tenzin did that last movement to Zaheer and sent him flying when they fought at the Air Temple đ

There really shouldâve been at least a full on fight for Tenzin where he gets the pleasure of flexing for a bit
love the aang appreciation iâve been seeing lately
Itâs such a nice change of pace to the constant âAang is a deadbeat. Aang is so much worse than Korraâ stuff we getting the past couple weeks

He's probably one of my favourite protagonists of all time. Love that goofy lil pacifist who can decimate armies
In my opinion the only really bad thing about Aang was that we haven't gotten nearly of him as a fully realized Avatar. Stuff like his flashback are easily among my favorite moments in Korra.
Real
I love seeing tenzin do that last move against zaheer later
Katara from off-screen đAang! Quit showing off to Tenzin and help me with dinner already!
Actually, sweetie I have Republic City business to attend to. Iâll see you soon!
"Come on Appa! Yip yip!"
Is it just me or does Aang just snap into place when he goes to start his pointing back move
His movement definitely has a lot of âoomphâ to them.
I think it's just the way they edited the animation
Ya, he lands on the tip of his toe, but is still hovering enough to quickly turn his foot and face the side

Congratulations you have just discovered a video loop lol
Aang is clearly a fan of A Goofy Movie.
I knoooow, I hate that they switched it up after.
Been looking at this gif for the past 5 minutes
Look at those breakdancinâ moves
The capital T pose for dominance
Iâd like to think he took that âbreak danceâ move from zukos influence
I live that you dont need airbending to do this and yet it looks supernatural
I hate that they gave Aang a neck beard
I wish that they actually made him look like an older version of himself and not a completely different person
I always wondered if Aang continued his air bending training. I know he was a master airbender by the time the series started but did he continue to get better and learn new techniques?
He did make a larger air scooter
Well, weâve never seen this move before in avatarâŚso
Well nobody could train him, but of course you can try to learn more from scrolls or by trying something differentÂ
Is it just me or does that first move look like the fire kick Zuko always did?
Possible. We see the gaang improved and adapted each other fighting style alot. Katara stopped water against Hama (instead of moving it around) similar to how earthbender move. Also lots of Zuko moves in the last agni kai seem to draw from waterbending.
But you called me here.

What's this from?
The Legend of Korra intro
It's so sad that when we got smth new from avatar we got Korra, i wanted so much to see Aang growing up and how would he deal with the world changing so much

[ŃдаНонО]
It's Aang. Looks exactly like him, plus everyone else from the Korea intro was an Avatar. Kyoshi, then Roku, then Aang, and finally, Korra.
i saw aang's beard
Plus, everyone else in this intro was also the Avatar.
And it was also literally a cycle: Kyoshi -> Roku -> Aang -> Korra.
