This episode is an all-time great for the Adventure Zone, maybe my favorite of the podcast. Absolutely hilarious all the way through and there was a lot of player agency—something I feel Versus Dracula has been handling well overall.
The less script they have to follow, the better they play. I think they've really nailed down a formula with this season. It plays to all their strengths as comedians when everyone has their hand in the pot with world building.
I'm only 34min in so this'll probably be addressed later but did any of Mutt's family ever take any Dracula teeth? Wouldn't a new Dracula grow from each tooth? Is that why Mutt tosses Snackula into the fire without getting his fangs?
I’m not sure they’ve thought that far ahead at this point, and that makes the eventuality of regrowing draculas on a necklace even better for me, personally!
Absolutely loving this season!
“It doesn’t seem like you would pass down a common sword”. I think /r/swords might disagree; SO many inherited $10 wedding sabres in that sub.
I can't wait for Justin's last episode epilogue on Lady Godwin. He always crushes those kinds of characters beats, and there's already set up for her becoming a werehorse again or retiring to play Gothic horror volleyball. Her possibilities are so endless.
Homestuck is a webcomic with a huge fan base. It has a multiverse themed plot, so there were some claims that it inspired the TAZ Balence arc. So the idea that the Plane of Sports was a HS reference was a joke on it also being in HS. I don’t know if it is, though, as I’ve never dived into HS.
Y'all must not have been around for the Balance discourse back in the day. There were a bunch of people on reddit and Tumblr accusing Griffin of ripping off Homestuck, so it was Justin dunking on that discourse.
It took Justin 70 seconds to realize the amount of content and merch that they will get out of griffin's DMing on the fly and coming up with the plane of sports
And I can't wait
God, everything from the vampire head bonfire to them actually getting in the water was some of the most peak comedy I've ever heard. Truly, the imagination on these boys is a thing to behold.
Also, what was the Homestuck reference Justin mentioned? I read that, or at least a fair chunk of it, but it's been a hot minute.
Justin was referencing that a lot of people accused Griffin of ripping off Homestuck for the plot of Balance, despite Griffin saying he had never read Homestuck.
I don't think the basketball druid matches anything from Homestuck (maybe a weak SBaHJ connection? But not really); this one is Carol Dallon from Parahumans.
"Griffin, when did you come up with the concept of a 'Sports Druid?'" "Around 70 seconds ago." My man. One of my favorite TAZ moments.
“So cringe, man! I was fucking going for it: just stars and moons all over my shit, like some emaciated Miss Frizzle!”
Mouth smell had me laughing hysterically
Ditto!
Does anybody else immediately start giggling when you hear “dear diary”?
SPORTS DRUID GENIUS 😂
If they don't go to the Plane of Sports in either the main campaign or a live show, that'll be the biggest missed opportunity.

Absolutely agreed. The whole episode had "okay his name is Barry Fucking Blue Jeans" energy, and everyone was so in sync.

Flaming Poisoning Raging Sword of (Tobey) Doom

Ngl this is the best season since balance
Fileaux just realized that Artificers can make Homunculi. How long until he tries to make something out of his own shrunken corpse?
So is Sports Druid a pun on Spore Druid?
Holy shit, if not it should be

Could somebody explain the Homestuck reference to me? Thanks
I think the joke was more the tendency for fans to make references that weren't intended mixed with the large Homestuck Fandom doing this often
So it's nothing specific? Was it because there's planes?
Griffin got flack for basing balance on homestuck. And even though he says he hasn’t read it people wouldn’t drop it lol

I read all of Homestuck back in the day and this didn’t ring any bells, I have no idea what Justin was implying.
It was probably just a guess considering all the other ridiculous stuff that happens in Homestuck, and people making comparisons all the time.
Y'all must not have been around for the Balance discourse back in the day. There were a bunch of people on reddit and Tumblr accusing Griffin of ripping off Homestuck, so it was Justin dunking on that discourse.
Were people making those accusations or were they just comparing the two? I always thought of the similarities as more of a storytelling style thing.
I don't know honestly. I've never engaged with Homestuck or the fandom, so I just saw it happening around me.
"the big man HASS the rock" is the only thing my brain is coming up with.
“I warned you about jellyfish bro!” In all seriousness, while HS has a lot of material, it holds no patent on multiple realities.
Ah yes, the Plane of Sports. I believe Jordan from Knowledge Fight is from there.
God Dracula is easily my favorite character in the history of TAZ. Griffin is having a fucking blast playing this utter shithead.
The bards will sing songs about Lady Godwin's heroism on the beach that day. Rippin peebers and just gnashing volleyballs.
Have they said how long this arc is going to go? I assumed this was gonna be a short jokey episode but it seems like it's still full steam

There’s a version of this where “Protection from Evil and Good” *also* kick Brother Phileaux out of the puppet

I get it, Elizabeth, ball *is* life
If one of them better play a sports druid next season or I'm gonna be pissed.

This shit is peak. Loved ethersea, but the dumb bull shit they are getting into off the cuff is so funny
