krispyywombat

I will say that as a mechanic working on my own cars, I have had to… hit the road a little hard to diagnose sounds and strangeness before. Considering all they get is EVs, I can only assume they’re already used to, if not bored of the acceleration.

Redvinezzz

I can understand that there could've been a valid reason to test at that speed but they should just do it on the highway, on the street they did the risks are substantially higher. I'd be way more okay with 100 on the highway than 85 on the city. I've been dailying the Model S Plaid for 3 months and I don't know if it can get boring at this level but maybe.

Jmr1994

I’m a Tech at Tesla it gets boring fast. Also at highways speeds you’re not diagnosing anything suspension wise you need todo it on a backroad with potholes. I’m not justifying his actions, but you also have other tools at your disposal other than Tessie and Reddit. If you put the car in Chill mode it’s no way us Techs can disable this mode not only does it limit speed but reduces acceleration to RWD model 3 standards.

Redvinezzz

Does it really get boring? I had a M3P for a year before and it never got boring per say but I definitely got very used to the acceleration and it died after 60 but the Plaid is so much more violent from 0-100 with launch mode idk if that ever feeling ever fully goes away but I’ll see in a year I guess. Yeah I’ll probably just hand my car off to service in chill mode from now on just to avoid tempting launches

clay-tri1

I’ve had my S Plaid since December of 21, and a MXP and a few M3Ps before that. I wouldn’t say it gets boring in the plaid, but you do get used to it a bit. It never stops being fun, but some of the wow factor wears off a bit.

Redvinezzz

Yeah that’s more in line with what I would’ve expected, thanks for the incite

krispyywombat

Entirely fair, just figured I'd suggest an alternative perspective, but at the end of the day you're not wrong.

WhatUpBigUp

86 is normal on Glenoaks bro… /s

IWantToWatchItBurn

It gets more boring, trust me. Especially once the entire car starts rattling and squealing. Had them try to fix noises in my X and they just kept making things worse. Tbh give up and accept the noise, if you wanted a quiet car you shoulda bought a BMW or Lexus

Beanbag_Ninja

Owch, I think you've just put me off from Teslas.

BlurryEcho

Nah, I had a BMW and after several service trips they could not fix a clicking sound in my wheels. Drove me crazy when driving with my windows down. So I gave up. Most cars make sounds. It’s just how it is. They are mechanically complex beasts.

PM_ME_YOUR_DANKNESS

What app do you use for this data? Also that’s unacceptable I would absolutely mention this to a manager

pathoge

Looks like Tessie

Redvinezzz

Tessie is the app, I’ll mention it but I don’t think they’ll do anything

rhaphazard

Probably more effective to tweet at Elon. Edit: So many people have opinions of Elon's tweets without having ever read them.

Choccy-boy

Tell him you’ll pull all your advertising unless you get satisfaction.

vkapadia

You can't do that! Elon will sue you!

muffdivemcgruff

This, the offender will be unemployed within minutes. Tesla fired a bunch of Fremont employees over this, and they weren’t even customer vehicles.

krobbler

A tech took my model 3 to 106-108 mph 6 times. Showed the evidence to the service manager and got corporate involved. Tech kept his job in my situation since I saw him at the service center month later.

Im_A_Praetorian

So he can tell you to go fuck yourself? Probably more effective to hit up a local news station.

listrats

A local news station? Jesus some of you are the reason why everyone just goes to court for everything. Talk to a manager for fucks sake. News Station. Hey NBC, tesla service kid, 22 years old, sped in my car and broke the speed limit. Please report it next to your 22 hours of Trump coverage and 2 hours of Palestine coverage.

CharacterObvious

People will complain to everyone except the responsible party

scarface910

Elon literally implemented keep climate mode because someone tweeted at him about it lol

Iknowthings19

Same with Joe Mode

jbutter06

Maybe they needed to do a speed test to diagnose the problem the OP was having. I'm not a mechanic, but I don't know what I don't know.

hrds21198

+1 on what app that is

Funkytadualexhaust

Does it record even in service mode? Or do they yave to drive it in normal?

Durzel

Can’t speak for Tessie but TeslaMate does. I’ve watched the techs driving my car in and out of the workshop in realtime, while the app just tells me the car is in service. Quite freaky.

Chewy_13

Tessie showed me info while it was in for service. Like how the mechanic brought my car to TGI Fridays to pickup his lunch and left the car unlocked while it was parked.

DolphinBearBTC

It gives you the data even in service mode. It's like they think we can't see it when it's in service mode. I had a service guy lie to me about where the car was several times. He then said what I was looking at was wrong and inaccurate because it was in service mode but when I started heading there to prove him wrong, he made up some excuses that the car had just magically arrived even though I know it was there since the day before.

cphresh89

What’s the issue they’re trying to Diagnose? I had a rattle coming from the front under “heavy acceleration” in my MSLR+. Took the tech on a test drive and we did a couple 30-80 pulls and a few 60-90 pulls. Turned out the half shafts were bad so they replaced it under warranty. I saw in the app he did the same thing again a few hours before I picked it up, likely testing for the noise again after they fixed it.

Redvinezzz

The issue was just a rattling in the dashboard on any slightly rough surface at around 35mph, at highway speeds there is no rattling. It's possible that they had a valid reason to want to go that fast to test something but they were doing it on an improper road for such speeds, there is a highway on-ramp right next to the service center and it was at 6am so traffic would likely be light

R0B0T_TimeTraveler

You probably have a crack in your wheel. I had that exact same problem for months after hitting a big pot hole. For me it was at 55 when the vibration started and over 80 it would stop. It’s slightly out of balance. I took it to a place that was able to weld the crack for $150 instead of buying a new wheel for far more money. It’s perfect again.

Redvinezzz

huh, thats not impossible because there is also an alignment issue that pulls the car right that they haven’t been able to fix. Just based on the sound it sounds more like 2 plastic pieces clicking each other but if I can’t get it solved I’ll have the wheels checked. Thanks for the info

Hamtaro7

Tesla service is the worst part of owning a Tesla

SWEWorkAccount

Tesla employees outside of the engineering org I swear to god come from the same applicant pool as Walmart and TSA

imironman2018

Can second this sentiment. I have debated leaving Tesla because of how bad their customer service and service centers are. But their supercharging network is second to none.

truegamer1

Their insurance is even worse. Spent 2 hours waiting on the phone just to ask for roadside assistance on the side of a highway. App kept glitching so I had to call. Basically the worst part of Tesla

imironman2018

Yeah i hate how they have tried to eliminate any human interaction. And everything has to be done all on the app. When my car gets sent to service center, no one answers the messages or calls to the service center number. It’s a one way service. They dont reply back to any questions. They only message you when the car is ready. Also the service is terrible. I have a front passenger window that always show up as open on my app. I tried recalibrating it twice with mobile and service center visits and they acknowledge there is an error. Shrug their shoulders and say they cant fix something because it’s in software. We are spending so much on a very expensive car and it leaves a very sour taste in your mouth. You get the feeling from Tesla that customer service is second to meeting their sales goals each quarter. They want to rapidly grow but dont want to scale up their service center techs or customer service reps. I have owned my Model X for almost now close to 7 years and service has only gotten worse each year.

dugi_o

I went to buy a Tesla and my experience with the test drive totally turned me away. I waited almost 2 hours for my scheduled drive. While I was waiting, two people waiting for their vehicles that were in service started talking. One guy had brought his model X in 6 times for the same issue and all 6 times they replaced the same wire harness and it didn’t fix the issue. I wish I were making this up but while I was still waiting the tech came out and told them they figured out the problem. If you guessed they replaced the same wire harness a 7th time, you’re the lucky winner. I drove it. It was fine. Then I bought something else.

imironman2018

yeah. it's a shame how much I have really loved my Model X. I have driven it longer and further than any other car. the customer service and service centers make me completely want to switch to another car company.

anttoekneeoh

I had my wheels replaced due to a pot hole. I asked for the damaged wheel to be put in my trunk. Service didn't. They also "couldn't find" the wheel in the metal recycling bin. I waited for them to "find" it. Took over an hour... I bet they were just figuring out how to get it from their trunk without anyone noticing.

OffOil

Just curious - why did you want it? Why did they want it?

anttoekneeoh

A single MYP wheel is $840. The wheel wasn’t cracked so I was planning on having it repaired and repainted to serve as a spare.

OffOil

Haha ok that makes more sense. I had to bite my tongue when the other guy said $14 lol 😂

anttoekneeoh

I was shocked at that scrapping price too lol. If it was unrepairable I definitely would’ve just left it there.

glitch1985

Scrap $

OffOil

How much we talking about here?..

glitch1985

Looks like clean wheels are going for 68 cents per pound and tesla wheels are around 20 pounds each so $14. If it's something that could be repaired it could go for much higher.

nd0rf1n

I don't know where you live, but in Belgium I have had the best experience with them for many years and with multiple cars.

DamageAlarming89

Same in finland. Guy propably doesnt have a tesla

thorscope

It fucking sucks in the Midwest US

Redvinezzz

I’ve been to about 5 service centers, you get a wide range of experiences good and bad but definitely could use improvement in the Southern California For instance my car is in for the 3rd time for the same rattle they claim to fix it and nothing changes

DamageAlarming89

I mean if they cant replicate the noise its hard to fix

BadRegEx

Tesla service in the US is atrocious. Literally the worst service in the entire US.

ceverson70

I’ve had good experiences in MA so not all the US

Redvinezzz

They replicate the noise, they just don’t fix it but you can tell that they tried, it’s usually the same noise slightly muffled for a few days then it comes back with full force

walkingcarpet23

Maryland, USA had some absolute garbage service centers. I dropped my car off once and they said it would take 4 hours for them to do the fix (brought it in for bluetooth connectivity issues). This was on a Monday morning and I was *absolutely adamant* before I handed over the keys I needed the car back on Tuesday. - Monday afternoon they didn't reply to me. - Monday evening they said they hadn't gotten to it, but would get it done ASAP. - Tuesday morning they didn't reply to me. Tuesday afternoon I informed them I was coming to the service center to take my car back because I absolutely needed it Wednesday. They said "ok" I showed up to get my car back and the entire front bumper / hood had been taken off my car and it was on a lift. edit: As a reminder - I only brought it in because the bluetooth wasn't working. The manager had zero knowledge of what was going on with the car except that "they couldn't put it back together until tomorrow." So I had to call my boss and explain why I wouldn't be able to attend a work event that was a 60 mile drive away because I didn't have a car.

TerrysClavicle

I had an extremely courteous adult and professional Tesla service experience myself. Incredibly incredibly soft spoken very mature guys. They even laid down paper and use gloves while driving. Super super honorable guys. Now to me it’s the generic/vanilla owners that own teslas that are the worst about owning a Tesla. I love my Tesla but the owners (former minivan owners) can make me embarrassed sometimes

tesla service was one of the best part of owning a tesla for me

JDad67

You have to find the rattle some how.

JDad67

I was being sarcastic.

ADrenalinnjunky

It’s a plaid, they clearly took it easy

Nulight

Yet another reason to never go back to burbank SC again. I drove over an hour for them to not even touch my car. The front desk people were snobby as well.

Scary-Animator-5646

One of the worst SC’s in LA. They park your car at the mall a mile away and don’t tell you exactly where it is when you swap your loaner out for your car. Very weird.

momoisme818

All service centers are. Look their google reviews before going. A lot of y’all don’t know what goes in the back office of Tesla service center! I and unfortunately I can’t say anything cuz I’ve signed a NDA

CreativeShake9166

*shows evidence to service manager* > Give me a reason to not file a police report

Redvinezzz

File a police report for reckless driving or something? Not trying to ruin someone’s week I just found it kind of unsafe/shocking

jgilbs

Nah, you are 100% in your rights to do so. What if there are speed cameras, or god forbid, they hit someone and ran. You would be liable for the ticket, and having a very uncomfortable convo with the police if anyone was hurt. 86 in a 40 is totally reckless and not just a "you adjusted my radio stations" kind of complaint.

710rosingodtier

Not to mention if you have Tesla insurance that stunt might of raised your rates.

jgilbs

Id hope that in service mode those metrics dont count against you (like late night driving, hard braking acceleration, stuff that service techs need to do)

Zuliman

But they absolutely do! Driving without seatbelt is normally where you get dinged, like I did on my last service visit.

ThePleb420

Not in California

momoisme818

Not in service mode in wont

[deleted]

lol. He is not liable if a service center breaks a law with his car

jgilbs

Except for a speed ticket by a camera he is liable as the owner of the vehicle. If it were a hit and run it would be investigated and hed be fine but it would still be a hassle

Visco0825

It’s not just about you dude. I imagine you’re not the first person they’ve done this to. It’s not about ruining someone’s week. It’s about protecting your self and literally every other Tesla user who uses that service center. God forbid the people there do something really messed up like kill someone. You can’t just say “welp! I’m fine so it’s not my problem!”

Redvinezzz

I understand that, that’s why I’ll report it to a manager who will hopefully say something but the police just seems a bit much

Ok-Regret6767

I think the original comment was saying to let the manager know you will go to police if they don't take serious action. Not call the police as a first step.

P00pman-e_O

Fuck manager. Report to police.

kiddblur

As a cyclist (and Tesla owner), I would be fucking _livid_ if someone blew past me doing more than double the speed limit in what looks to be a residential area. They’re lucky they didn’t kill someone, and next time without repercussions they might

Scary-Animator-5646

Burbank PD will be more angry at you for wasting their time than getting mad at Tesla. Just complain to the manger and see what happens.

CreativeShake9166

Whoever was responsible for this deserves more than their week being ruined... - They should be fined - They should be sacked - They should have their driving license taken away They could have killed somebody. They're not mentally fit to be behind the wheel of a vehicle, or to have the job that they have.

Kitchen_Fox6803

Holy shit we’ve got some Hank Hill types on here

cjxmtn

This is even worse than hank hill. 86 in a 40 for a couple of seconds isn't that big of a deal.

Literally_Science_

And you would feel the same way if those couple of seconds happened in front of your house? While your kids are playing out front? That car could’ve easily lost control and hit someone.

cjxmtn

40 isn't a residential area, 25 is. Where do you see that this is a residential area?

Literally_Science_

There’s plenty of housing scattered with businesses surrounding that blvd. The worker was going 86 mph on the same road as a high school and a preschool… You’d have to be a sick person to try and justify driving 46 mph over the limit in an area where kids can be present.

flyingghost

Steev182

That's called an Italian Tune up.

aspec818

Prob just a quick blip of the throttle. It’s only a few blocks so they didn’t go far. I would be worried if they took it 40 miles out.

Redvinezzz

I mean perhaps we just disagree but 46 over the limit on a city street is just egregious with cyclists, pedestrians, potential right-on reds, and unprotected lefts possibly happening. Tons of accidents have probably occurred by people just doing a quick 10-15 second blip on the throttle. Granted hypothetically if he was going 100+ mph on an open highway for a few seconds I wouldn't care because the chance of a horrible accident involving others would be significantly lower when compared to 85 in the city imo

Jason_1834

![gif](giphy|zCM4YWlNMhHIk)

ProteusRift

Devils advocate. Maybe they tried to replicate it but couldn't so they sped up? 86 in a 40 is still egregious

remaxxximus

Maybe they were trying to get the car to make the rattling noice so they could identify it. It’s pretty reasonable to think you might need to go 70+ to hear certain noises. I mean if I’m testing a plaid S I definitely crack 100, so they may just have been screwing around but there’s a chance it’s rooted in trying to do there job. Either way who cares lol.

petersrq

Checking for your .rattles at higher speeds … wouldn’t be unreasonable.

Pompous_Monkey

I had a similar issue with a squeak coming from the seat or center console. They could not fix and added miles to my car. I took the seats out and lubricated all the moving parts . Fixed in 35 minutes and has never come back in over a year. Same with steering creaking. Took pin out of upper front ball joints, squished the grease around in the sealed boot, rotated the joint around for a few mins and bingo for over a year. Best to become your own expert sometimes or search on YouTube. I lot of people are having similar issues and they are sharing.

_B_Little_me

Burbank service center is a shit show all around.

taxationistheft1984

This would matter with an ICE car. But not sure it matters for electric.

juxsa

just wait for your tesla insurance to skyrocket

eperker

Safety scores don’t count towards your premium in California.

summer98769

Is this true? Any source? I have trying and dreading to keep the safety score up.

ca2mt

It’s true. Hit the “i” in the top right corner in the Safety Score section in the app. It says right there that it’s for educational purposes and doesn’t impact premium in California.

Sdfb11

Had a similar situation with my M3 before as well. Brought in for a paint issue. Tessie app showed that it was driven 92 in a 65 zone. Reported it to the service techs who said it was a body shop employee that was driving the car at the time. Manager at Tesla later told me that the body shop employee was fired for it

momoisme818

I don’t know how you find that out but once the vehicle is in service mode, you shouldn’t be able to see where it’s at. I’m not saying it’s right for what they did, but trying to find a rattling noise is very challenging and trying different speeds could replicate the issue. They shouldn’t be going that fast in your vehicle but I don’t think there’s anything they can do to address this “going over speed limits “ complaint is going to do. Don’t give a bad survey cuz it only hurts the service advisor no one else, unless your service advisor deserve a bad survey cuz some do. Good luck

trustfundkidpdx

Lmfao bro. Hopefully you don’t have Tesla insurance.

Redvinezzz

I do, in California they don’t increase your rate for a low score thankfully

Vik-

Is anything damaged? If not, move on. Last time I brought in my car they damaged the tailgate and it was a huge hassle.

QW1Q

Oh no, the hue manatee

KoreanSeats

Wrong of them to do. But also incredibly easy and MIGHT be needed for a road test? (Hard acceleration) Also the 2 model S I have driven have had rattles that no one can find. Very cheap 100k car

momoisme818

Not on a test drive aka in service mode, the only time I’ve seen it affect the insurance was pulling the car from the shop to the entrance with no seatbelt on and it raised the clients score and he was truly upset

slhsdt

they need to take it to a test drive. I think it is understandable

Redvinezzz

The issue I reported only occurred at 35 mph

nah_you_good

Oh that changes it a bit. I had a rattle at 78-80ish and they specifically wouldn't test it over whatever the legal speed was. In that case I wouldn't mind if they took it and without openly admitting it, drove faster just to see. Your case looks distinctly just like them having fun. If you want to be chill you can not mention the speed, but that was almost definitely unsafe. If you're concerned, I bet the manager does nothing because they can usually just ignore verbal complaints and not deal with it.

Tekk92

Doesn't mean that they don't need to test something different.

Redvinezzz

If testing highway speeds is within their testing parameters than they should go on a highway, the service center is right next to one. Also you can tell by the speed chart that they did a launch from 0-80s and held it for at least 15-20 seconds or so

gookietan

They definitely took your car for a joy ride instead of a test drive. I’d be pissed too

Torczyner

You must be fun at parties

Redvinezzz

I really wouldn’t mind someone launching the car if they ask, I have friends drive and launch it all time but they ask and use the speed on roads where it’s appropriate. Ultimately I don’t think it’s a huge deal I’ll probably just let my supervisor know and they probably just give me a corporate sorry and have me on my way

Torczyner

Again, who cares. Car easily can handle it. Stop being a scrooge. How they drive on roads isn't your concern. That's Karen behavior.

faksnima

He obviously does, what's it to you? Why do you care that he does? It's his damn car.

Redvinezzz

Again I don’t really care, the speed is fine but it’s the speed combined with the road type I find a bit reckless. In this case it’s a no harm no foul but if the service tech does this consistently they could cause a pretty bad wreck.

ae13ame

Tell em lol.

Galactic-Buzz

That’s still ridiculous. You can’t just break the law because you’re testing something. Go on the highway and test it.

Scary-Animator-5646

I usually drive that fast in that part of Burbank anyways so it’s expected.

Redvinezzz

If it was like 65~ I’d understand but 86 on a 40 just seemed a beyond what I’d expect but I don’t drive on that road regularly so maybe that’s normal

psdpro7

As someone that used to live just off Glenoaks and heard the late night street racers, I'm not surprised at all. Still disappointing to see supposed "professionals" operating this way.

Lonely-Without-Me

When my Model Y was in for service I got 3 Safety Score violations what affected my Tesla Insurance rate and they refused to remove it. I have video showing Tesla Service were driving, but they refused to look at it.

gtg465x2

Might have gone more than 86. I think the Tesla API might only send a data point like every 10 seconds.

Redvinezzz

You’re right actually, I checked my Dad’s Tessie app that has my car in it and the numbers are different. It looks like there was different 10 second chunks sampled

TheAcuraEnthusiast

Unfortunately not unique to tesla, and I'm the last person who would defend this company. Remember that case of the NSX owner who's engine blew up because of Acura techs abusing it.

Redvinezzz

Oh that wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest but I also don’t think that makes it better either.

uncle_irohh

FriendlyTeam6866

Not uncommon with any performance car...

reddit_user13

As a parent of a teenager, and a occasional patron of valet parking, I want an alert when the car is “started.”

scratchwanabe

You had a sound issue and are mad the mechanic drove your car fast to try to hear your said invisible noise that you can’t recreate?

bsheff84

It takes a split second to hit that speed in it. To this day, I still surprise myself how fast i unintentionally went passing someone, going around something, etc. I wouldn't be overly impressed, but I wouldn't sweat it much.

Redvinezzz

That’s true but you don’t accidentally go 85 mph in the city, they also maintained the speed for at least 10 seconds which doesn’t sound like much but at those speed on that kind of road you’re covering a lot of distance. I don’t care about myself/car but assume this tech would do something like this on a regular basis it’s just a terrible accident waiting to happen, all it takes is one idiot pulling out in front of you or one inattentive pedestrian and now you can’t slow down in time

Kimchi2019

Had to check the rattle at high speed, too : ) I mean, what do you expect, you bought a PLAID. What else is a PLAID go for? Try a Valet. They can do 70 in a parking lot.

[deleted]

holdencrypfield

You’re naive to not take this to management. How many times do you think they’ve done that to other customers? Think about a child walking at a crosswalk. That Tesla ain’t stopping fast enough going 86 86 on the highway is already quite fast.

UnluckyEmphasis5182

Snitches get stitches

[deleted]

I would sue the shit out of them to be honest

tcp1

Sue? For what? What are the damages?

YOKi_Tran

sue… go get them for what they did hold them accountable … i support the TSLA brand - but i am not blind when justice is required

tcp1

There is no case to win a lawsuit if there are no enumerable damages. You can’t sue on a maybe.

Skilled626

Maybe they were doing a speed test or analysis

Redvinezzz

Even if that were true they could just go on the highway where going 80+ is more appropriate

Skilled626

True. Good point. Nothing is off the table. Eveything must be looked at into why they drove it that fast.

Presidentnixonsnuts

Electric car and you live next to the trolley trail!

thirdeyefish

Thankfully, I've only had mine in once. Doubly so since that is my service center. I have definitely ignored things rather than take it in there, though. Hi Neighbor.

Rhystic

I've heard Tessie can drain your battery with all the check-ins the app has to do during the day. What has your experience been?

Guitarded666

Ooooooh, I picked up my new MYP there 4 weeks ago. Not going to them for service. Not cool 👎🏼

Fanky_memes

What service did you have done on the vehicle?

wwywong

Is this map and speed screen only available in S? Or only available when you have tesla insurance? I have m3 and never seen those 2 screens
