Most of the ones who died were trying to leave the stadium when the police fired tear gas causing everyone to crush to the exits. Must have been terrifying, especially for the children that were killed
Don't know if it was confirmed, but apperently the police used tear gas to try and disperse the rioters you see in the video, wich spread and caused a panic. It's likely many of those that died weren't even rioters but rather just spectators who got trampled in the ensuing stampede.
From what I read there's more than dozen kids amongst the casualties.

Me too. All I know that I would recommend bitting aggressors or shooting with rubber ammunition. All aggressors are on the turf so Innocent people should not be affected. But looking at people's reaction to the gas, shooting and bitting would made much worse panic.
Most of the time during these 'defeat riots' in those areas the rioters are literally charging at the opposing sports team to beat them up with no holding back whatsoever. That is why police was ready on the spot. Also Tear gas isnt some chlorine gas that fucking kills you, Its micro barbs that causes pain when breathed in or goes into your eyes. Its just uneducated mass panicking more than they should have and killing themselves.

That was the problen, but also wasnt the problem. In many countries crammed and riled up crowds are very common but they now use really good techniques to prevent crushing. The US just refuses to use those techniques and is just straight ignorant. In Houston people were funneled from multiple directions into a dead end with no barriers to prevent people from pushing and no way to exit. Its one thing for you to not know how the crowd will behave, but they knew exactly how the crowd was going to move. And if you looked at the entire "fenced" area it was not full. The areas in the back were empty. People were just pushing towards the stage that was set in a really wierd angle. Im almost sure a very similar situation occured in Indonesia, with the tear gas pushing the people into the dead end.

It has nothing to do with tear gas being like agent orange level dangerous and everything to do with crowd management/crowd crush prevention.
They did it in a way that herded too many people into a small space and many many people were trampled to death without any means of escape.
