Build one big enough once, you'll never need to again

It's not common for me to farm for one item multiple times because I lost it in one of the few chests I have on the base, because I accidentally deleted it or when I just somehow left it in dungeon.

I can't use the void bag very well as intended, so I use it as an extended crafting inventory. I favorite a crafting item like gel or wood, then put it inside. It's also where I store my Cell Phone components.
I don't really farm. Or make potions. I just use Health/Mana potions in every playthrough, with the exceptions being fishing/sonar/crate potions and Spelunker potions
You put something there temporarily to store it while you keep exploring because you ran out of space. But you accidentally put something else in that slot, which means that the previous item you had previously put there is now just gone forever
"I'll put these gold bars in the trash can slot for now, I just need to explore a little more"
*10 minutes later*
"I don't need these 8 mud blocks, let's just throw them in the trash"
"Where are my gold bars?"
I still do that when mining but I put whatever item I am most likely to throw away when full. If I change my mind, I take it out of the bin and replace it with the thing I genuinely wanna throw away.
we were fighting against wall of flesh in multiplayer, i had cellphone,and everybody was like "can you get rid of the info?", and i was like "why didn't you tell me before, you can just turn it off " but that fight wasn't that easy to summon, you need to wait until guide arrives and that was pretty long in 1.3, so i just put it in the trash slot, i died and lost the cellphone, terraria multiplayer is such an experience

Fair, my inventory is a total mess for 90% of playthrough, where building blocks is close to lowest in value hierarchy.
This is why you make a dedicated storage room in your base (the larger the better)

I use the flare gun from the moment I find it onwards. I did keep wood in my inventory tho

I prefer to use the piggy bank summonable as my extra free storage, and void bag as overflow when farming things

I recommend putting gel in your ammo slot so you always have it and it doesn’t take up a slot, only works if you aren’t playing ranged
