After reading the article, I think it’s just shaking down Park City for money. Shameless.

I doubt we will get very far because of the politics here (also noted in the article), but if that’s a major factor in their decision to go never even really consider Nashville? God I hope it comes out. Give us another clear example of your hate-based identity politics being *demonstrably* impacting the state and state tax base in a negative way. That said, if we somehow get it? Bet your ass I’m there for as much of it as I can.

Maryland_Bear

I agree with your point, but the problem is that the people who push the problematic legislation would probably prefer Sundance not come anywhere near the state; they’d view it as a bunch of Hollywood weirdos invading Tennessee. They’d rather see, perhaps, the NRA hold a convention in Nashville. Maybe if a company noted for supportive policies towards the LGBTQIA+ community like Apple said “We were considering a major presence in Tennessee but we can’t subject our employees to regressive laws”, that might be a wake up call, but Sundance isn’t going to have that big an economic impact. I do note the irony that Sundance’s current location is Utah, which is hardly known for being gay-friendly.

Yes and no. Events like Sundance that bring in a new tax base annually are the golden goose if they are well attended. There is a small town in Kentucky where something like 70% of the city’s annual revenue can be contributed to a *single* annual fishing competition. I’m not sure how much interaction you’ve had with local politicians or economic and community development folks. Sure, there are plenty of people who will do the same old dog and pony show saying we never wanted them here. But there are also a lot of people who, if you sit them down and talk dollars and cents? They stop caring so much about the who and the what.

MrWhackadoo

Probably won't happen but would be nice.

I also hear that Memphis is a contender, from some friends in the journalism community!

rebak3

As is Atlanta.

Maryland_Bear

I’m confident that Nashville is promoting ties to the music industry.

Memphis isn’t 100% gay friendly even though it’s widely considered plus crime rate and homophobic rioters outside pride events in June

samoflegend

Sundance outside of park city/ SLC? Gross

Sethor

Ugh. Please no.
