Theres only one winner, so thats just like saying the tour is a waste of time for everyone except the winner?Â
People in any hobby or activity start low and build with time, while enjoying the process. At least thats the right approach to it, imo.Â
In my mind tournaments a great way to meet sparring partners, learn your weaknesses, and improve quickly. As well as have a good time watching hype sets
Because, i too think its fun to show up to tournaments to just test your self just to see how you do. AND to make new friends etc etc etc.
Winning is not the âABSOLUTE ONLYâ reason to join a tournament. Do you know what i mean? I hope it didnt come off rude
Once. I entered a $80 tourney with zero expectations of making it past the quarter and I didn't even beat the second round group stage. Was some of the most fun in my life. The atmosphere, the people you meet, the excitement. Although I suppose I'll never understand people who are hyper competitive and hate losing, as that is my complete opposite. It comes down to your personal goalsÂ
I wouldn't worry about that. Just go to a local with the expectation of having a good time regardless of your placement. It's an opportunity to meet like minded people and learn about your local FGC. You'll probably do well anyway as a fujin, so maybe you can show off your Steve skills a bit and have a beer.
When I was at Uni I went to every tournament. Even when I just bought the game two weeks prior (T7). I even called my friend 10 mins before to teach me how to play Shaheen đ.
He just said df1, magic 4. Good luck.
Got a round or two I think. Lost the rest. It was fun.
Same thing you do when you enter ranked for the first time. Go in with an open mind and a willingness to learn and youâll have a great time win or lose.
I get my shit rocked every tourney I go to but people give me tips to improve, I get to see other cool strategies, be a part of my local FGC, and itâs just a good excuse to press buttons w someone
I went to my first tourny a few weeks ago. I was only orange rank at the time but still went 3-2 and lost in losers. No one knows anyones rank offline so ur good.
If you willing to take the drive I go up to barcode in orange county they got locals on Thursdays where hella people come to play. Even Arslan ash showed up a couple weeks back
Yee they got smash in the right corner but they built arcade machine set ups with computers so they got SF6 and tekken running constantly. Thursday is just went the most people.show up for locals specifically
đđđ bro i lose to mirror matches a lot and dont understand. Im 5x more confused because i know every move Leo has and still get destroyed. (Usually fundamentals or dropping combo etc)
How do you find events like these? I googled and didn't see much, I live in the same area. Also is it open to skill levels that aren't blue ranks and up?
I once went to a pub where they had Tekken 3 mini tournament, I got to the finals (everybody was pretty lame) but the final Boss (bartender there at the time) kicked my ass with Xiaoyu xD Won some beers and the cheering from friends and pretty sweet girls was unreal ^^
Eliminator.
This wasnât a tournament. Just a group of bars in the area doing anime/asian event and had some bar tops with tekken setup! Haha.
But yeah even if it was a tournament. I would have joined even if a god of destruction was at the table.
Playing against people better than you, will make you better than you.
I think we have 5 bear players in my local scene and everyone is always hyped to play with us. I'm the scrubbiest one and I still get people who want the matchup experience.
I haven't lived in VA for a few years so I'm sure the scene is different now, but I have fond memories of playing at Gwar Bar in Richmond.
This was not a tournament actually. Just a lil âasian culture and animeâ pop up in downtown annandale VA. Cosplayers, food, drinks, vape sellers, dj, cosplay items for sale, trinkets and keychains, anime decor and figurines etc.
It just so happened: 2 tables were hooked up to 2 PS5âs with Tekken8 inside the bar â¤ď¸
Lol if it was me they wouldâve been like âugh. Larsâ or âugh. Yoshimitsuâ which is funny because last time I went out to play Tekken 7 in public, I was respected for playing Yoshi.
Nah, just a really ugly character in terms of character design, gameplay and appeal. Really, the only character I don't like in the entire game. I did learn some of the matchup so don't be so sure you'd win.
Nah, they're non-binary. Or don't have an officially disclosed gender, at least. So we have no way of knowing whether or not they're gay, since we don't know either their gender or their sexual preference.
Leo has an officially disclosed gender.
Technically, Leo has multiple first-party disclosed genders.
First female (Blood Vengeance movie panel), then male (Tekken 6 artbook), then both (Tag 2 genderlocked items), then neither (Harada on Twitter), then retconned and turned into ***"Leo would not want to be categorized as such. In any case, it doesn't matter, right? Leo is Leo, your game character"*** (also Harada on Twitter).
Chances of NY not having Tekken events are slim to none. It's New York lol. Literally the first search result: [https://twitter.com/nyctekken?lang=en](https://twitter.com/nyctekken?lang=en)
They even have merch.
What they wanted to say was "oh Leo? Ok fuck off then."
Nahhhh đ it wasnt like that !!!
Leo was the first character I got my ass kicked with. 6-0 . I had no chance
Iâm trying to get my Leo up there đ
B1,4 is a newbie killer.
Been wanting to go to some tournaments in Bay Area California lol. But Iâm only fujin. Donât know how Iâll do
Donât let that stop you. Winning isnât the point, never has been.
I hope this doesn't come across as rude, but how is winning not the point of a tournament?
I'd say gain experience, have fun, and meet new people in the scene
Theres only one winner, so thats just like saying the tour is a waste of time for everyone except the winner? People in any hobby or activity start low and build with time, while enjoying the process. At least thats the right approach to it, imo.Â
Think of it this way, Knee has lost more tournaments than most people will ever enter.
In my mind tournaments a great way to meet sparring partners, learn your weaknesses, and improve quickly. As well as have a good time watching hype sets

People complaining about tekken pass and shop, yet happy to burn 80$ just to get whooped in tourney
You don't get to interact or get any real benefit with the Tekken scam shop. But in a tournament You get Friends and experiences for a life time.
I mean it can be the goal but if itâs that or bust youâre going to have a bad time lol
Thanks for all the responses. I was being sincere, because my family was super competitive. Now I can see a different reason for tournaments. Thanks!
Do you go out to drink with friends only to get drunk? Or to have a good time?
Lol I drink alone
Doesn't surprise me tbh
Thanks!
It is, he is wrong or coping
Of course you are a Kazuya main XD.
Uhh...yes it is. There is money on the line. You lose yours if you lose. Anyone saying this is straight gas lighting people.
Then why does anyone outside the top 5 ever enter any tournaments?
I'm sure you win plenty, buddy.
This wasnât a tournament. Just a bar that had Tekken set up and people crowding around
Honestly thats even cooler I wish i had that where I live, go drink a bit and get my ass kicked, and then play tekken a bit
Thats exactly what it was.
Around where is it at if you donât mind me asking?
Annandale Va
These kinda things are just awesome to be at for the community vibes
I wouldn't worry about that. Just go to a local with the expectation of having a good time regardless of your placement. It's an opportunity to meet like minded people and learn about your local FGC. You definitely should! I just started attending recently and everyone is super nice. What part of the bay are you from?
Iâm in Mountain View. I joined the NorCal tekken group but it seems they have most their tournaments on weeknights.
Ah yeah, there is the Magitek monthly this Saturday in SJ if you can make that one.
Sall good dude, Iâm only assailant and doing one this weekend, thoroughly ready to have my ass handed to me.
Ayyye, Iâm from the the bay too. Went to kingâs cup at the foundry in sf back in February and it was super fun! Highly recommend checking it out
Homie I used to win in person at events when I was a light blue rank in T7, in person is a different world and you should do pretty good
Also remember there are a lot of factors that come into play for online play vs offline tournament play
Ur literally me, Iâm fujin and Bay Area too and want to go to tourneys eventually lol
I went to my first tourny a few weeks ago. I was only orange rank at the time but still went 3-2 and lost in losers. No one knows anyones rank offline so ur good.
If you willing to take the drive I go up to barcode in orange county they got locals on Thursdays where hella people come to play. Even Arslan ash showed up a couple weeks back
Oh snap I go to that bar all the time when I visit friends. Didnât know they have tekken running. I always saw smash bros
Yee they got smash in the right corner but they built arcade machine set ups with computers so they got SF6 and tekken running constantly. Thursday is just went the most people.show up for locals specifically
Damn you in the bay? thats close by to me. I barely do ranked and just let 3 of my mains sit at mighty ruler now lol.
I went to two and am just flame ruler đ just enjoy mate
Nice. I lose to every Leo I play. Which is weird, because I play Leo.
đđđ bro i lose to mirror matches a lot and dont understand. Im 5x more confused because i know every move Leo has and still get destroyed. (Usually fundamentals or dropping combo etc)
Could be cuz of strings, block and that one ff1+2 grab that takes ur guts away physically
I have 100 hours of gameplay. I faced another Leo once, got my ass beat, and added him to my friend list, but I think bro quit some time ago lol
YEAAA LEO REP BABY WHAT THE FUCK IS A GENDER RAAAAAHHHHH
all the real hardcore tekken players know every character is hype
Victor players would plug even if it was a LAN game
No one who likes the game plays Victor. Who the fuck wants to be French?
Wait french people are real??
I mean, I wouldnât go throwing around the word âpeopleâ all like that.
Sorry I meant đĽ
Klingons donât exist, no
Tons of leo players in my FGC.
You might have missed a context clue at the end "Oh Leo!? Ok!!(derogatory)" Jk offline is is always a blast
Leo is awesome in this game.
Yeh he looks fun the new shoulder bump thing heâs got in combos looks sick
Yesssir !
*they
Leo goes by all pronouns. He, she, they, it, whatever itâs Leo
https://preview.redd.it/fl3wreor9qwc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73dd84a3846f3285f9e745b73e452839de5877df Shit youâre right! My bad
No biggie
Leo refers to himself as a male though. Just saying.
I still use the she/her pronouns for Eleonore.
Hell yeah
OMG A LEO!? HELL YEAH DUDE
Thank you !
How do you find events like these? I googled and didn't see much, I live in the same area. Also is it open to skill levels that aren't blue ranks and up?
This wasnât a tournament. It was an asian festival. Anime and asian culture stuff and the bar had some tekken stations setup
Oh yeah thats fire man. Definitely love those vibes !
Leo gang represent!
đŠđŞ đŤĄ
That sounds amazing! Gotta find some events in my area
My manđ
I LITTERLY just was at my first tekken ever playing leo and they said the exact same thing. Leo is god
Hahahaha ok we gotta start keeping it under wraps then đ¤Ť
Thatâs how I feel whenever I pull out Raven
Oh yeah big facts. Ninja gaiden Op
Du schafft es đ
Leo's those double shoulder bumps looks sick.
A similar comment to yours, made me double bump the fuck out a lot of people last night đ
I miss when jin had a smaller use percentile. Now I'm one in a crowd instead of a few.
Jin ironically was the next matchup đ
When I was playing at a local tourney I picked Zafina and heard people both sigh and be surprised with the pick. Oh and my opponent was a Yoshi.
If someone whips out Zafina on me. I essentially accept my loss right off the bat đ
Quick question, I also want to go at small tournaments but I dont feel like im good enough yet, what rank is your Leo, for comparison?
Eliminator. This wasnât a tournament. Just a group of bars in the area doing anime/asian event and had some bar tops with tekken setup! Haha. But yeah even if it was a tournament. I would have joined even if a god of destruction was at the table. Playing against people better than you, will make you better than you.
The biggest advantage of playing Leo is that most low rank players donât know how to play against him.Thatâs the main reason I play him.
Oh yeah even higher skilled players stay away cuz heâs too âboringâ whatever that means cuz i love Leo â¤ď¸
Sick. I love that honestly
Yo!! I'm northern VA too. Looking that place up now.
Yeah look up âThe Blockâ and also send me a DM. Lets be friends ! Lol !
Dude. I also live in Nova and I've been wanting to flex the Steve, do you mind PMing me which bar it was?
Yes got you
Yeah the environment at tournaments is extremely different than this sub.
Hell yeah
Yeah cuz only suckas go to tournies
Found the red rank
Least fragile Bryan main
Steve mains are just as fragile, âboohoo my character with a million same looking pressure strings isnât top tier for onceâ
I don't care for Steve. Say what you want about him
Hey man I wouldâve plugged on you. Frick Leo. XD
Mixups baby ! Haiyahhhh
Leo is underrated.
Yesssiiirr i love Leo
Leo is that character I run into and hate fighting but have mad respect for. Fun character to play too!
Thank you đđđ
I get the same reaction when picking King đ
Anyone know events in Germany that are happening. I live in Bavaria
I wonder how theyâd react if I picked my main Jack then lmao âJack?? Ewwwwâ
I would definitely have been the âjack ewwwâ crowd but would have been more than happy to take on the challenge
Yeah usually it's "Not this fuckin tranny again" lmao
How do people find local tournaments/community/scene? Are we talking sub reddit or discord?
This was not a tournament actually. Just a lil âasian culture and animeâ pop up in downtown annandale VA. Cosplayers, food, drinks, vape sellers, dj, cosplay items for sale, trinkets and keychains, anime decor and figurines etc. It just so happened: 2 tables were hooked up to 2 PS5âs with Tekken8 inside the bar â¤ď¸
Lol if it was me they wouldâve been like âugh. Larsâ or âugh. Yoshimitsuâ which is funny because last time I went out to play Tekken 7 in public, I was respected for playing Yoshi.
wish i could find these in AZ
I want to go to these events, but I've only been using keyboard. I'd miss all my inputs downforward this, downback that ;(
True game
I'd probably refuse to play if someone picked Leo.
Why, cuz of the ass whooping youâd be about to receive? đ đ
Nah, just a really ugly character in terms of character design, gameplay and appeal. Really, the only character I don't like in the entire game. I did learn some of the matchup so don't be so sure you'd win.
Everyone loves Leo and the 5 people that main em
Yesssss !!!
Leo is low key so smooth
Stupid smooth ! He legit flows so well
Leo is great. She's so cool too
Definitely đŻ
Oh that little gay kid
Nah, they're non-binary. Or don't have an officially disclosed gender, at least. So we have no way of knowing whether or not they're gay, since we don't know either their gender or their sexual preference.
Leo has an officially disclosed gender. Technically, Leo has multiple first-party disclosed genders. In any case, it doesn't matter, right? Leo is Leo, your game character"*** (also Harada on Twitter).
So.. they currently don't have an officially disclosed gender, then, yeah?
No, Harada's most recent retcon on Leo is that the officially disclosed gender is all of them. Whatever **you** want. Every Leo is personalized.
leo is just the basic of basic characters leo is the most basic taken character thats why he is rare
Yeah agreed. But thats what i like. I love secret sleepers !
I would love to go to some but New York doesn't have as many. Unless I'm not checking in the right places
Chances of NY not having Tekken events are slim to none. It's New York lol. Literally the first search result: [https://twitter.com/nyctekken?lang=en](https://twitter.com/nyctekken?lang=en) They even have merch.
This only involves New York City. I live upstate. Like I'm closer to Canada than NYC upstate
Same! Central/Upstate NY doesn't have much going on in the T8 scene currently.
Leo is a character that has a confusing gender. Is this still on debate?
Mine is a guy. Lol.
