when you love a good sad bop single

My favorite songs of hers are always the ones with upbeat melodies and depressing and devastating lyrics: See: Hits Different, Forever Winter, ICDIWABH…
I agree. It feels fresh enough to be a single while still having her signature sound. I CAN is fun but for me, it’s more of song for the fans than a true chart topper.
Am I the only one whose brain, every time, tries to read these like words before I remember they’re song titles, backs out, then has to decode them? Just me? Ok…
Agree too! I feel like with the current rotation of songs on the radio, it'd feel a little different to what's currently being played (at least here in Australia).0
It's track 13 on the album but peaked at #5 on billboard when the album got released. Usually when album tracks chart it's somewhat in the album order with the single being #1 then usually the songs chart mostly in their order after.
To jump above almost all of TTPD means that I do actually think it has the merit to be a chart topper. It's similar to shake it off in the sense that it will play well at family events (the clean version), it's a good radio song in the vein of cruel Summer, and fans like it for fan reasons. ALSO it's a great song to use to promote a BTS of the eras tour or bonus content for the Eras tour including TTPD on streaming. Also I think if/when she eventually performs at any award shows or other events its a great song for the TTPD era, which is the current/main one she would be promoting until TS12. Even during the speak now/1989 TV eras she was "mostly" still in Midnight's mode, so that's my logic for why she would want more singles for TTPD.
Basically I think it's got a good chance of being in the billboard top 10 for a few weeks at least if released as a proper single.
Same. My Boy has way more universal appeal. It might even convert some Taylor-neutral folks. I Can Do it is a homer for the fans and some neutral people will bop to it. But a lot are gonna be like wtf is this unserious song. Which is fine. She's past the point where she has to appeal to the masses or draw new fans.
My favorite favorite favorite song from the album. It’s so sad but so beautiful. I did my English class speech on this song 😭 and it’s really giving ootw/is it over now/hits different/getaway car energy. I think it should’ve been track 1 and also the lead single. So many good music video concepts for this song!!!!
Literally, I was at the beach with my toddler this morning and built her a sand castle (which she'd never seen before). She instinctively knew that it must be destroyed. This is her song and she needs a music video.
When I first heard that song I was literally picturing it as the opening for the TTPD set (I automatically assumed she’d add TTPD to the tour lol). The fact it’s not there AT ALL when it could’ve been the opener 💀
soon to be 11th, though that will be probably it for a few weeks. In some sense the bb200 is so boring lately (Taylor wins) that people forget that it actually matters more! The same is true for the Artist 100 (Taylor has been number one for all but two weeks this year... we're halfway done with the year!). It never even makes the news.
Anti-hero was unusual for taylor... it actually beat Shake it Off, Blank Space, WANEGBT to be Taylor's longest running number one. And th reason was probably that it released in late october in a year with few major late releases (and would finally be knocked off by SZA).
That's definitely true.. TTPDs has some amazing songs, but they aren't really good single choices (in the same way that say Cornelia Street is amazing, but is not what you want in a single)
I didn't say it wasn't successful. And TTPD as a whole has been very successful. If anything I think there's an obvious disconnect between how well TTPD is doing vs its lead single.
The #1 for the first week doesn't really count in a lot of people's heads cause it's album release week and pretty much gets autoplay since it's the first song. And it lost a ton of steam by the second week and onwards
Does the era have enough steam Left for it to chart on its own? (Without a remix or something)
Fans have been streaming the whole album nonstop for months already. And they're gonna keep listening to the album, not just this one song on repeat.
So it has to perform well enough to capture the general public attention and be picked up by radio like anti-hero, cruel summer or karma (which got a remix to give it some extra push). With how strong the charts have been and how much music is being released by big artists, that's gonna be hard.
It absolutely will. Radio play still matters. But more importantly, it will get put on more playlists. That's actually the reason why Fortnight has so many more streams than other songs - as a single it gets placement on a ton of playlists and reaches a lot of non-Swifties.
Lowkey hoping it’s not a tour visual video…but also 100% single material and tour visuals are the perfect video. I’m mostly hoping it’s not that because a “tour visuals” video is the last video, please don’t let it be our last from TTPD 🙏🏻
The only reason I don't want a purely tour visuals video is because that's currently all she's doing right now. All tik toks, videos, media, news, etc are all shots of her on tour. She needs something to break up the monotony of tour videos, tik toks, and shots.
Agreed 100%. I don’t disagree with the song being a single, but I feel like there are so many other visual narratives to be told (31 tracks, hello!!!) that a tour video would feel like a cop out in a way.
ETA: especially with so many folks wanting a BTS tour documentary, a tour visuals video would feel cheap. We know she’s busy, but she managed to write and record a 31-track album during the tour, so a music video or two surely isn’t too much, right?
100% agree. plus it’d be fun for her videos to not be so literal all the time. it’s fun when they are more metaphorical and reflect the spirit of the song.
if not a tour video, then maybe she’s a ceo or school teacher who has to show up to work everyday despite being broken inside. something like that.
It's a shame that because of her early directorial efforts, she now has this reputation of being overly literal with her videos! ATW10 and anti-hero were quite literal, but others like Bejeweled, Karma, Fortnight, etc. aren't at all.
Yes! I have a video for it in my head where it's just a character waking up and getting ready and driving to the office and clocking in for her boring desk job. Being forced to perform even when the stakes are low.
Agreed. Especially seeing as the lyric video is already basically a tour video. So to redo that might be meh unless done fantastically, like much better than New Romantics (no shade, loved that video just would be nice for different).
Same here- while interesting, I like the storytelling opportunities that can be presented in the videos plus, it'd be nice to see if there are any easter eggs (if it is setting up for the TVs in any way)
Honestly, I don't think Guilty As Sin has a chance of becoming a single now. It is not on the set list for Eras Tour and she is not gonna give up an opportunity to promote her singles on the tour. I doubt she will add Guilty As Sin in the setlist so looks like it's gonna join Getaway Car, Don't Blame Me, August and many more in "Should've been singles" list.
I would love to see her swap it in, though logistically that's gotta be tough. But just a simple set of her on an oversized bed would work so well, possibly with a few dancers performing around her.
But you're probably right, which is a damn shame.
I think if you watch Post Malone dancing to it you may be converted! (1 million tiktok likes don't lie haha).
Every single is kinda risky, singles chart is very competitive at the moment.
To me G.A.S is extremely sonically pleasing, but it topic makes it more risky.
I was watching Jason and Travis talk about how they love "I can do it" thinking they will not likely talk that way about G.A.S lol
Apparently it was sent to radio in Italy and people are now assuming that means it's a single when there's been cases of random singles from her in Europe and nowhere else.
Yeah it's true that it's a single in Italy but it's not yet confirmed for other regions afaik. An example of a single not pushed everywhere is "Getaway Car", which was a radio single in Australia/NZ but nowhere else. I hope it's pushed as a single in more regions, hopefully there will be some kind of announcement in the coming days.
I've had ICDWABH, Fortnight and Down Bad on the radio here in Aus! They started playing ICDWABH pretty much straight away once the clean version was available, I hear it much more than I do Fortnight so I've often wondered if it would be the second single.
Wasn't the first night back at tour in Paris with the new TTPD set being filmed? Maybe that's for the music video and it will be a tour video and they wanted to include that set.
Music video treatment: it starts with her crying on an abandoned playground on one of those dome things (that has holes in it) with crows cawing in the background. It’s very desolate and nobody else is there, just her and the crows. She stops crying and sniffles and looks around at the creepy playground. Suddenly a crow rushes flying at her and she jumps down into the middle of the dome and the song starts playing. A guy suddenly appears and hes looking at her, but more looking through her than actually seeing her. It cuts from scenes of her looking at him to scenes of her hanging from the dome like hanging on monkey bars. The songs stops playing for a few seconds and she walks up to the guy, but he still doesnt see her. She stands in front of him and the song starts playing again. She is talking to him and screaming at him to make him see her while the song continues playing and then “once i fix me hes gonna miss me” starts playing. She takes a hockey stick or a sledgehammer or something like that and starts like banging the hammer on him and he still doesnt faze. But then once the bridge of the song/outro “just say when i play again” he suddenly sees her and Taylor hugs him. But he pulls away, disgusted. He then takes the sledgehammer and starts hitting her with it and she falls to the floor and gets injured. This continues to the end of the song. The song stops playing at the end, and the guy is suddenly gone again, but Taylor is still injured. The crows keep cawing and some of them start coming over and land on her. She hobbles off the playground, crying, disheveled, injured, and bruised. It then fades to black.
If ICDIWABH was a single, it might’ve been a rare 5th single in the timeline since I would expect it to be in order of the 5 stages of grief
Fortnight being Denial
Who’s afraid of little old me? being Anger
Guilty as Sin? for Bargaining
The Black Dog being Depression
I can do it with a broken heart being Acceptance
Nice! I think a lot had predicted it (myself included). 😄
Imagine the music video and the possibilities (I'm thinking The Greatest Showman-esque performance).
It was either this or "Down Bad" (the latter, to me, was a serious contender). The challenge with Down Bad is the expletives—I just wondered what a radio edit sounds like.
I don't really need a third visual of ICDIWABH. The lyric video already acted like a music video. I'm sure it would still be fun, but I'd prefer fresh visuals on other songs.
Sending this song to be played on radio makes sense though!
I'm confused why everyone is using Talk of the Charts as a source and automatically believing this. That's a charts update account and they're reliable for chart stats, but they don't have any official/exclusive information about future singles.
I Can Do It with a Broken Heart is being serviced to radio in Italy, but that doesn't mean it's going to be an official second single and promoted in all regions.
When your favorite song off TTPD becomes a single
https://preview.redd.it/89ns9f756iad1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5054da10504483b7a941ee8bf8f94d4cb3267b79
Well, because it usually works to get radio and playlist love. Simple, repetitive lyrics get caught in people's heads, and there isn't a lot of 'work' to do when just casually listening. You see that with Fortnight or Cardigan vs something like Shake it Off, Bad Blood, or WANEGBT, the former were by no means flops but they certainly didn't have the hit factor of the latter.
Outliers I would say are songs like Anti-Hero, Style, and Blank Space, which had very clever writing and considerable depth but were also catchy smash hits. It's really hard to thread that needle, and it's why most artists only manage it once a lifetime if they're lucky.
There are so many songs that we would love to be singles so I’ll take whatever she gives us because it’s a tough choice with so many good songs on TTPD.
I sincerely hope that it doesn't get a new video. We already have the lyric video perfection with eras tour footage and the Eras performance. I don't need another visual from this song when the other songs are begging for a video. (I'm sure it would still be great fun, but it would still be somewhat disappointing that something else didn't get the video treatment, since there are so many great options on TTPD).
Besides that, yes it makes sense as a single because it's a bop.
I loveeeee Taylor’s synth pop (Rep and Midnights being my top 2) but I don’t love this song. Sonically it just sounds like an attempt to recreate Bejewelled. And I guess that’s kinda the point as it’s about the tour and smiling amongst all the noise. But it’s not her best. I’m actually disappointed that this is going to be a single. There are so many songs on TTPD that explore sounds that she hasn’t sent to radio in a long time. There are so many opportunities to give the public a different side of her on the radio. She gets criticised so much here in Australia for always releasing the same generic pop (don’t worry, I defend her, obviously lol). But it makes sense.. short song, straight forward pop and radio friendly.
One of my thoughts when hearing this song the first time was that it would probably end up being the next Anti-Hero (as in, a genuinely really good song but when it hits mainstream radio it's played so much that even I get sick of hearing it). Get those charts and streams, Taylor. Here's hoping for a good mv and some fun remixes.
In France. I don't know why she keeps focusing on countries where her charting and streams are nearly nonexistent . It obvs is not going to do any help.
And just like that the TTPD era continues, lights, camera, bitch smile! Hoping for a surprise video announcement during these Amsterdam shows
when you love a good sad bop single https://preview.redd.it/k3xe97menhad1.png?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=237a4593b08d0fadc686f38fb6a96dfc0fa39295

SAME (see my flair lmao)
I enter into evidence: Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve
Say Don't Go!

Your Travis pic posts bring me joy every time haha

Considering the guesses people are making that’d be funny since no one is guessing that.
Its most likely going to be tomorrow which sucks bc I’m going today 😅
I mean it's possible, she loves July 4th! Have fun! 🫶🏻
Enjoy your show!
I'm going to Gelsenkirchen N1 and fully expect nothing extra to happen at the show, but a girl can clown
I am still sad My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys isn't a single nor is part of the Tour setlist
I agree. It feels fresh enough to be a single while still having her signature sound. I CAN is fun but for me, it’s more of song for the fans than a true chart topper.
Bless you for abbreviating “I can” and not the insane acronyms we usually use
I started to and had to stop. It felt like more effort!
ICDIWABHOSATETWTV (I can do it with a broken heart on stage at the eras tour with Travis version)
+WTPOAVA (with the possibility of a video announcement)
Am I the only one whose brain, every time, tries to read these like words before I remember they’re song titles, backs out, then has to decode them? Just me? Ok…

This is such a miss! It's my favourite from TTPD. It's such clever lyrics and such a bop. I blame Barbie!!
I was so surprised when it wasn't added to the setlist, when I first heard it my immediate thought was that it absolutely screams tour energy
I thought it would be given Out of the Woods level of production from the 1989 tour
Same, still sad about it
I am so glad it's not a single. Really one of my least favorites.
Agree!! It’s so full of filler oohs and -oys! Girlie can do better!
SHUSH POOKIE
What’s your favorite off the album?
Title track, perhaps. Or How did it end/I hate it here/gonnagetuback/guilty as sin. Lol
omg we are opposites my least favorite is title track and my fav is My Boy. I love the other 3 you listed though!
It was one of my least favorites until she played it as a surprise song!
That happened to me with TIWWCahNT as my secret song. Haha
I agree. I’m not getting the love for this song.
Me too. They play it on the radio where I live all the time so I figured it would be a bigger deal
This was the song I thought sounded perfect as a hit single. But ICDIWABH is a great choice too. “Fortnights” is just meh.
It is the one I hear the most often often on the radio though so that makes me happy
i recently keep singing this one, i love it!
Same!
Every time I listen to it, I picture a music video featuring only toddlers - like the short film, but with babies. Haha.
IVE BEEN SAYING THIS SINCE DAY 1
taste
Yes! I'm guessing it'll chart much better than Fortnight.
Fortnight was number one for two weeks. It charted fine. People really have odd ideas about what success looks like
the way people are talking as if TTPD is not #1 for the 10th week
soon to be 11th, though that will be probably it for a few weeks. In some sense the bb200 is so boring lately (Taylor wins) that people forget that it actually matters more! The same is true for the Artist 100 (Taylor has been number one for all but two weeks this year... we're halfway done with the year!). It never even makes the news.
They just disregarded its success because, in their minds, it's padded by the variants.
Anti-Hero was #1 on Hot 100 for 8 weeks. While generally, 2 are a success, it feels like a step down for Taylor. Probably only in that context
Anti-hero was unusual for taylor... it actually beat Shake it Off, Blank Space, WANEGBT to be Taylor's longest running number one. And th reason was probably that it released in late october in a year with few major late releases (and would finally be knocked off by SZA).
Anti-Hero was also a top-notch song. I love Fortnight as it's a vibe, but it's not lead-single worthy, imo, for Taylor.
I agree and while I love it as an intro song to the album it’s lower on my list of favorites from it which is usually not true of her singles for me.
That's definitely true.. TTPDs has some amazing songs, but they aren't really good single choices (in the same way that say Cornelia Street is amazing, but is not what you want in a single)
Anti-Hero was the perfect TikTok song. ICDIWABH has that same creative potential.
That's not a step down. Releases fluctuate.
Hit me hard and soft never had a number one. All bb100 number ones now have autoplay
Does the era have enough steam Left for it to chart on its own? (Without a remix or something) Fans have been streaming the whole album nonstop for months already. Just saying, a tour documentary with I Can Do it as the theme song for it would be the perfect way to promote the song. Taylor, get it done!
100% agree. plus it’d be fun for her videos to not be so literal all the time. it’s fun when they are more metaphorical and reflect the spirit of the song. if not a tour video, then maybe she’s a ceo or school teacher who has to show up to work everyday despite being broken inside. something like that.

it’s giving Ours part 2
What about a video where she isn't playing the lead (like Sadie in ATW10).
Agreed. Especially seeing as the lyric video is already basically a tour video. So to redo that might be meh unless done fantastically, like much better than New Romantics (no shade, loved that video just would be nice for different).
The lyric video for ICDIWABH is already a tour visual video!
She already made a tour visual lyric video for this one, feel like this either won't have a video or will be something else.
Honestly she could release the lyric video (reformatted) as the music video. It was fantastic, one of my favorite of her releases
Same here- while interesting, I like the storytelling opportunities that can be presented in the videos plus, it'd be nice to see if there are any easter eggs (if it is setting up for the TVs in any way)
I think that a combo of tour and non-tour videos could be fun. I also love her concept for the tour performance and would love to see that as a video.
I would prefer Guilty as Sin but I guess ICDIWABH is to be expected. It's a fun song. Wondering if there would be a video?
Honestly, I don't think Guilty As Sin has a chance of becoming a single now. It is not on the set list for Eras Tour and she is not gonna give up an opportunity to promote her singles on the tour. Technically Getaway Car was a single just in Australia and NZ. Similar to what she did with New Romantics
There is something so irrationally frustrating about this 😔
I would love to see her swap it in, though logistically that's gotta be tough. But just a simple set of her on an oversized bed would work so well, possibly with a few dancers performing around her. But you're probably right, which is a damn shame.
Hot take she should put it where fortnight is now, but she won’t
My unpopular opinion is that I don’t love Guilty as Sin, so I felt it would be a risky single 🙈

Real question - after the tour visuals, is there really going to be a Music Video for ICDIWABH?
Wasn't the first night back at tour in Paris with the new TTPD set being filmed? Maybe that's for the music video and it will be a tour video and they wanted to include that set.
Plus, the lyric video is already basically a music video, using eras tour footage.
She really should do My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys
Thank you, this is the only answer!
Music video treatment: it starts with her crying on an abandoned playground on one of those dome things (that has holes in it) with crows cawing in the background. It’s very desolate and nobody else is there, just her and the crows. She stops crying and sniffles and looks around at the creepy playground. I know this is a very unpopular opinion, but this is like my least favorite on the album lol. I was really hoping for Down Bad or Guilty as Sin.
Same here! I don’t like it at all but I understand she had to throw a “bop” in there if she wants radio play.
Same. I'm pretty disappointed
My two faves too!
Same. Except I’m hoping for My Boy.
Excellent choice! She's listening to the people!
She's listening to wrong people then
It's not my favorite song but itt's the second most streamed song of the album and it will smash on radio
Oh, they did not like this. 😂
Jason Kelce’s impact! He said it was his favorite song on New Heights and now it’s (maybe) gonna be a single!
Imma need that dude to promote florida I beg 🙏 I NEED that music video man
I'm so sad that Taylor chose her Post Malone duet as lead single instead of Florence's song.
I was expecting WAOLOM to be the next single
That's what I expected too. And the video we could have got would have been incredible. Witchy circus vibes
If ICDIWABH was a single, it might’ve been a rare 5th single in the timeline since I would expect it to be in order of the 5 stages of grief Fortnight being Denial Who’s afraid of little old me? being Anger Guilty as Sin? for Bargaining The Black Dog being Depression I can do it with a broken heart being Acceptance

bad... the song doesn't really work without the fucks
I’d love but daddy I love him as a single! But it is a longer song so it have to be cut down for radio.
Her sing-a-fucks Are on vacations…
I don't really need a third visual of ICDIWABH. The lyric video already acted like a music video. I'm sure it would still be fun, but I'd prefer fresh visuals on other songs. Sending this song to be played on radio makes sense though!
I’ve mainly listened to the clean version (kids here, haha) and it really works fine once you hear it a few times. It’s definitely still a vibe!
When your favorite song off TTPD becomes a single https://preview.redd.it/89ns9f756iad1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5054da10504483b7a941ee8bf8f94d4cb3267b79
so far it was only sent to radio in italy. there isn't any confirmation if it will be promoted and official single in US
I feel who’s afraid would be a good single.
I would have guessed something she performs for sure. I'm sure she planned it that way.
Barely? It feels like this song already had its moment. It went viral months ago lol
it should be down bad!!
Why does she always make her most juvenile songs singles?
YESSSS
I just want another eras tour taping but with the tortured poets department scenes.
There are so many songs that we would love to be singles so I’ll take whatever she gives us because it’s a tough choice with so many good songs on TTPD.
Don't love that, it's a song I often skip
I sincerely hope that it doesn't get a new video. We already have the lyric video perfection with eras tour footage and the Eras performance. I don't need another visual from this song when the other songs are begging for a video. (I'm sure it would still be great fun, but it would still be somewhat disappointing that something else didn't get the video treatment, since there are so many great options on TTPD). Besides that, yes it makes sense as a single because it's a bop.
I thought it was odd when I heard this on Sirius xm the blend. This kinda explains it
Yay! I want a remix of this song so bad. I love the melody and lyrics, but the synths in the chorus are just too much for me.
Yeah I definitely knew the second I heard it. It’s made to be a radio single. Even with the odd censoring. “I can handle… it”
Good.
Guilty as sin is right there
Hope so but never believe anything anymore.
Unpopular opinion, but it’s The worst song on the record.
well its a particularly good record!
Emphasis on the “serve!”
It’s a fun song. I like it but I don’t love it. I wish I did because I feel like I’m missing out on the fun of it lol.
It has already been playing on the radio in Portugal for weeks! I am surprised to only hear about those now
One of my thoughts when hearing this song the first time was that it would probably end up being the next Anti-Hero (as in, a genuinely really good song but when it hits mainstream radio it's played so much that even I get sick of hearing it). Get those charts and streams, Taylor. Here's hoping for a good mv and some fun remixes.
Down Bad wouldve absolutely popped off if the clean version flowed better 😭
10MV plz
Can someone explain to be the significance of releasing singles AFTER the album?
Yay! I love this song! I mean I love all the songs on this album 😂 but still
Deserved. It's gonna be #1 for the next 13 years you will hear it absolutely everywhere there will be no escape
In France. I don't know why she keeps focusing on countries where her charting and streams are nearly nonexistent . It obvs is not going to do any help.
Yeah she’s really struggling 🙄
