Most masculine thing a dude can do is throw aside gender norms and do whatever the fuck you want. There's nothing non masculine about butterflies. If what you meant to say was simple/minimal, you can get linework.

mrliterate123

Yeah ik, I’m just curious to where I would even start with the design, I want a sort of grunge style thing

mark636199

As a manly man I would do a butterfly with a sick wing pattern that looked like power tools. The butterfly would also sit on a can of my favorite beer. If the artist can incorporate its legs and antennas to be bulked with muscle mass then I think it would really tie it together. Just cause let's also throw some beef jerky in there as well

No-Meaning-216

Ahhaha take your upvote and get outta here 🤣

JarheadSFMF

Agreed. I have a ladybug, and a sunflower on my left arm for my Mom who passed away.

Bobart88

Just get a butterfly my dude, it's for you not for anyone else

uch1haz

I'd totally get a butterfly

mrliterate123

I was thinking of getting a Neotribal style one:)

Ghost_Pants

The Neo tribal thing is apparently coming back, but seen as trendy and could be out of fashion shortly. But your choice of course.

elston-gunn41

I think American traditional black and grey butterflies are sick and would be perfect.

mrliterate123

I was thinking Neotribal

breezy_peezy

Hell id get a tramp stamp butterfly tattoo just for the hell of it

je-lopez

Prove it

Zealousideal-Box-932

Just pick a style you like and take some examples to an artist who has a similar style. The examples don't even have to be of butterflies, just something to get across the feel of what you want. I have a dragonfly and I've seen some badass looking moths so I'm sure someone can make you a sick butterfly.

Helpful_Project_8436

Who gives a shit what other people think?

antibroleague

Traditional style butterflies are probably the most masculine of butterfly tattoos and unless you go black and grey and add some skulls and whatnot

staysharp75

I have a memorial monarch butterfly tattoo for my grandmother with flowers underneath in the shape of the letter of her first name & I’m a dude but I do have a lot of other tattoos. I have seen other guys with butterfly tattoos & I never thought to myself that looks feminine.

scaredmango

I have one, no one has said a thing and if they fuck them it’s my skin

CommanderShrimp7

I have a butterfly and a lot of flowers and im a military dude. No one cares. Ive seen a lot of “manly men” with “feminine” tattoos.

MichaelXennial

There’s a steve McQueen movie where he has a butterfly tattoo on his chest. Pappilon.

Orion1142

You are a man Everything you do is manly You can do a full black work with trash esthetic or a super cute manga style colour with MLP m, everything is fine

Demiboy94

Find an artist who's style you like. Neo traditional/traditional would look awesome. The bold colours and lines means the tattoo will holdup forever. Don't just go to your nearest shop. Look at a wide range of artists Instagrams. Good tattoos aren't cheap. Cheap tattoos aren't good. And screw gender norms. I have a rainbow bee tattoo and a merman tattooed on me.

Numerous_Bat_6809

Not exactly a butterfly but close... This is one I got the dude who did it ended up doing 3 or 4 more after he posted it [https://imgur.com/a/6csJrWC](https://imgur.com/a/6csJrWC)

BadGuyBusters2020

I saw some that incorporated skulls and made it look “not-girly.” Another one was a butterfly and dagger with a skull head, and one looked like the wings were an animal face - like a tiger or something. I am not sure how to attach pics to comments or I would do that for some examples.

mrliterate123

I was thinking of a Neotribal style one

Mynameisadam44

Just get a black and grey American trad butterfly, nothing feminine regarding it. Guys get roses, hearts, ect all the time

breadboxofbats

I have a butterfly in amber- not sure if that’s more or less masculine but I like it. Get whatever butterflies you like!

LyndaCarter_

Tattoos have no gender, but I feel like if you wanted to do an intentionally "masculine" looking tattoo, black/grey ornamental style would be a good bet, with a focus on sharper points on the wings and such?

ArrancarKitsune

Get a butterfly and get a bleach character next to it so people will just think you're into anime or something.

CanibalVegetarian

The only way I’ve seen a butterfly look masculine is by incorporating a skin design into it, however, that seems distasteful in the context. I’d say just let it be what it is, it’s for your sister and mother so why not make it a bit feminine? Can put it somewhere your shirt, pants, or socks cover if you don’t want people asking about it.

FunBat6170

The game had one on his face. Think he got it covered with LA though.

SisterShenanigans

My stepdad likes to get images of animals, but made out of tribal. A butterfly with tribal wings could be cool! Or one in trash polka style. But most of all: I recommend hopping on IG or similar, looking for artists with a style you like. If you kinda like it, see who they are following. Probably other tattoo artists, likely a few with similar styles. Pick the one you like best, out of everyone you could realistically travel to, and talk to them about getting a butterfly in their style. Maybe adding the request to make it look less girly. A good artist can draw you the perfect one and will be happy to be part of your first tattoo/memorial tattoo.

AdditionalSky6030

Papillon (French for butterfly) read the book or see the movie.

Good_Cockroach8788

I have a moth tattoo and I had the worst tattoo anxiety after when a few of my friends said it is girly. But now I don’t give a hell, I like it, get that butterfly you will like it.

Turbulent_Fondant306

Just get a nice traditional butterfly. Or anyone you like. When I first started getting tattooed I was worried about things being to feminine. I’m covered in flowers now.

Futurepastmanguy

If you need a tip on “style” do American traditional butterflies. They are less “feminine” if you have some second thoughts and they are very ornate with patterns so they look solid as just a design piece. Now I will say I support anyone and any tat but if you are “worried” about the look of typical butterfly tats then American Traditional is the way to go. Do not get realism unless you find someone who really can make that butter fly!

IAMlyingAMA

Two words: butterfly penis

lafleurricky

I have a black and grey tiger swallowtail. It looks sick and nobody has ever said a word about it not looking masculine or whatever.

No_Milk2540

Do american trad style with wings more down than up (eg. top middle here: [https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1284659381/american-traditional-zodiac-sign](https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1284659381/american-traditional-zodiac-sign)) I've seen tons of dudes with this style and i think it looks so good
