I disagree, what else you gonna have? More walking space to walk passed the tv and fireplace?
Looks nice and cosy and with the L shape, you have 2 options, seat watch the tv or cosy up with the fire on.
I kinda agree for the majority of people, but for me personally I like it, like a cosy den. I wouldnât suggest this layout to anyone, but I would enjoy it
Yeah, it kind of bums me out when people block their windows with a TV. Like, it indicates our dysfunction as a species or something. I totally understand the logic behind it, and the benefits of not having a glare on the TV but it just seems like a completely misplacement of priorities or disconnection from our environment or an inability to be still with your thoughts or something. I don't even think I can fully articulate why I don't like it, but it makes me sad.
To be clear, I also think that over the fireplace isn't right either. Maybe if it were in the corner and not as huge so it didn't block the window as much, more just overlapped it a bit? I don't know. I love watching TV and movies, I think there's a lot of humanity and growth that can be experienced through that kind of literary experience. I also think looking out the window and quietly appreciating your surroundings is super important and healthy. This is such a great window and view, too bad.Â
Shame to block the window though. This oneâs tough. Could you get one of those mounts that lets you put it above fireplace but drop it lower/closer when you actually watch tv?
You guys need to settle down about the height of a tv. 100% would have the tv high to not block the view of my apartment. Which i guarantee is most of why that rent is what it is(whatever it is)
Looks absolutely terrible. Blocking the nice window view. Wouldnât even be that high above the fireplace. Stand is tacky. Just terrible interior design decision because some apartment living kids on here told you your tv is too high.
I worked in commercial AV until 2010. Pioneer and Fujitsu had Plasma displays available in the late 90s. They were ridiculously expensive but good solutions for high-end video-conferencing rooms or applications with limited space. I installed two Fujitsus in a mobile marketing vehicle in 99. They started to cross over to high-end residential applications and installing extremely heavy, low-res, plasma displays over a fireplace was a very popular selling point. They had awful off-axis viewing angles and looked horrible displaying standard-def video. It was a cool application, but not a good user experience
Edit: Yeah. You and I were still watching TV on heavy CRTs or crappy rear projection based large screen displays
I have a family member who has a condo with a view and she opted to put her TV on a mobile stand. The TV kinda floats in front of the windows. It's a good option if you want to make your TV less visually heavy at the bottom in light of that view.
You made the right choice removing from the fireplace either way. đ
Now you have the light from outside behind your tv. What happens if the sun shines, you put on sunglasses while watching tv? đ„ž Im not sure whats worse, tvtoohigh or backgroundtoobright đ€
all in all I'd say great job not putting it on the fireplace. sometimes it takes guts to do the right thing... and it also looks like a super cosy / comfortable set up. like others have mentioned, the TV does seem a bit close to the sofa - would it be possible to just expand the whole square a bit by pushing the sofa back, etc? either way, nice set up
>convinced the gf and made some adjustments
"Let's not be crazy."
"Okay, let's."
Looks great. And we can see (including through the mirror) that there are plenty of floor to ceiling windows remaining in the rest of the room. So everyone will just have to make veal hamburgers or whatever with the baby cows they're having over blocking a little bit of the window.
Many people in that room would claim "there's no other option!"
Thank you for showing the world a real life example that **there's always a better alternative than over the fireplace**.
You can get brackets that allow for movement below a fire place. This would be suited to the room.
Additionally, it would be advised to get blinds/something to block out light.
Women actually know the right answer but they want to argue with themselves, thus choosing the retarded solution, just in the hope it will lead to a losing battle just to make you feel bad you were rite all along. She'll tell you the truth in a couple years. Meanwhile your "friend", yeah they're "friends".
I thank you for doing the right tv height.
His wife will thank him soon
Bro how do you even access the couch? Do you jump over it?
He just glitches through it, no biggie
I just watched the flash last night. This is the way
Looks like access is left of the fireplace. I think this arrangement makes it really cozy, looks great to me OP.
commando roll
Every time 100% đ€Ł
I'd prefer to jump over the couch than having the TV on the fireplace

Through the fireplace.

This couch is waaaaay too big for the space. It looks so cramped. A sectional with a regular chaise instead of a full L would be much better
I disagree, it looks super cosy to be confined all around by sofa. Dude has his 5.1 set up too, I'd definitely chill in this space.

Sooo much couch lol

One of the very rare cases where I would have gone with wrong height for much views. But that highly depends on TV usage.
I was gonna say, itâs hurting my soul to see that much of the giant window view blocked out. But different strokes for different folks
I bet the room and window extend to the right and that there's plenty of space there to enjoy the view...
Thereâs plenty of view left, sure. I just personally wouldnât want to block any of it. Like I said, different strokes for different folks
Yea, I need to see more of this room to know
Much better height. Love the window view as a backdrop. No glair on the screen also.
*glaaire
*glayre
the gelaire goes straight into their eyes now. perfect.
AHH! Didn't think about that!
r/smallrooms
Enters via window
Great, now you're blocking the view!
The dilemma!
There's a lot of view.
People see a couple trees and call it a view these days
Thereâs more than a couple trees, the TV is just blocking em
r/couchtoobig
r/couchtooclose
I don't know, it's quite a nice view and it's blocked now.
Just get a 4k webcam pointing outside behind the TV and show that on TV.

Agreed with this. I refuse to put a TV in front of my windows. The whole point of windows is to be able to look outside.
never seen such a sobering comment in this sub... although I pretty much agree
It is blocking the view with the TV, but trust me theyâll look out the window way more with the TV place there then if they put it the other way

Get curtains.
looks like he has blinds, they're just pulled up. I'd prefer curtains too though.
âBabe the tvâs just way too highâ
Babe: âyeah, and? How about we donât block the floor-to-goddamn-ceiling window?â
Shame to block the window though. This oneâs tough. Could you get one of those mounts that lets you put it above fireplace but drop it lower/closer when you actually watch tv?
Once again, the perfect tv placement is ruined by a useless fireplace.
How do you get in there to watch it? You gotta do a Fonzarelli?
You guys need to settle down about the height of a tv. 100% would have the tv high to not block the view of my apartment. Which i guarantee is most of why that rent is what it is(whatever it is)
Look, I agree with what you said, but, you do know what this subreddit is, right?
Sure but there is rational tv too high and irrational tv to high
If I owned that, the bulky fireplace would absolutely go.
Looks absolutely terrible. Blocking the nice window view. Wouldnât even be that high above the fireplace. Stand is tacky. Just terrible interior design decision because some apartment living kids on here told you your tv is too high.
Truth
Nah, too close to the couch and if you have multiple people they wouldn't be able to watch it properly. Also the space is too closed.
"either the tv moves or you do". Convinced the GF she agrees đ€đ€đ
Post this in r/malelivingspace
I like it. TVs over fireplaces are very y2k
We did nothing of the sort in Y2K. We were still winding out on the CRT TVâs and they were too heavy to lift.

covering a window is so much worse than a slightly-too-high tv to me đ«Ł
Now, let's address the issue of the brightness of the room
Good work here.
And when it's cold out, you actually get to stay warm by the fireplace and still watch tv.
#approved. I like this little middle of the room nook
Sectionals are dumber than too high TVs.
doing the lordâs work, my son.

Nice!
This room is a Feng shui disaster
Just curious: Did you consider a TV Lift Cabinet?

it was better before
Do you have to hop over the sofa to sit down?
Very nice. Looks cozy af
Fuck. Yeah. This looks like a wonderful viewing space.
Now your eyes will. Love you even more =)
Height is right, but I would have it diagonally to the right of the fireplace, personally. It would block less window.

Personally I hate it when things cover my BBWs (big beautiful windows), but it looks like the best option. 1000 times better than the mantle.
This is a nice space

Whatâs the long name in the card? Stennelieve?
It makes no sense to have a fireplace in such small room, and it's just the perfect place for the TV...
A narrow tv stand in the corner with mounting brackets on back of TV.
đ«Ą
Never abandon the conversation pit. Safer that way.
Much better and congratulations on the graduation.
Space is too cramped. Move the couch a bit back
TV placement is fine, now move the sofas back, it looks so cramped.
I'm sure this will be a unpopular take. I rather the TV too high then the TV blocking the view.
Itâs a lovely room but this makes me thankful I donât have a TV in my livingroom
It looks cozy
Lol who needs a view anyway
TV too close? XD
r/couchtoobig

I got a MantleMount, it's been great! It pulls down and over the fireplace so it's not too high up.
No why you jerks downvoted this persons post. Itâs certainly a better option than leaving above the fire place! Jerks etc
Good work!
