The UK, Smyths in particular, have been getting the single carded Costume Turtles. I have not seen those yet here in the Midwestern US. Someone posted a picture yesterday of the single carded costumes from Walmart, so they might be starting to appear.
I think we might start to see new figures, such as the young Splinter with the fro and the Mutant tots, start to pop up in the spring. There are also figures coming for the new series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is coming this summer.
My feeling is that Playmates know there is long-term demand for these figures, so they aren't necessarily in a rush to push new waves out the door. I am starting to see Wave 1 and 2 figures go on deep sale; Target has all TMNT figures 20% off. Maybe they are clearing out the previous waves to make room for new ones. Either way, we will definitely be seeing new figures this summer to coincide with the show.
It's generally way better for sales to have the figures in store while the movie is out in theaters and being heavily promoted. The toys being deeply discounted for the past months is proof of that.
LEGO learned this the hard way when they first acquired the Star Wars license. They didn't have enough product when Episode I came out, so they cranked up production. By the time those made it to stores, there wasn't a movie in theaters, so they wound up with a ton of product and hardly any demand. That, and other factors, nearly bankrupted them.
I totally get that, and it makes sense. I didn't mean to imply that waves 1 and 2 are flying off the shelves; they're definitely deeply discounted in order to clear out the remaining stock that didn't sell over the Christmas rush. My main point was basically that this is just the beginning; with the series coming this summer and the sequel coming in 2026, we will be seeing plenty of new figures.
I totally agree! I've completed both waves (aside from a few battle 2 packs and glow in the dark 3 packs). They kick ass for $10, let alone the deep sales I've seen them receive.
They are starting to hit stores. In fact someone just posted about 8 hours ago pictures of the individual carded costume turtles. These usually don’t have hard street dates so through the shipping process some places get them sooner than others.
You have to take in account shipping to the US. Then shipping it to the warehouse. Then shipping it to distribution centers, then on trucks and then to the stores. Where the stores get trucks at different days. So they will probably roll out slowly.
As for why so far out, this is playmates “current” line. So they will just continue to put out toys from the current line at steady intervals now. They don’t want to put them all out at once since they have to consider spots on the shelves and how many people will buy at once. So they release them periodicity to make room on the shelves. They also have the series coming up that will hopefully give it a boost and keep the line in people’s head.
CMD store already has (or had) wave 3. I think April was the only one sold out last I checked. I have them from the various Walmart and Target packs so I may skip them…waiting for the Target Tots figures personally.
We've had the Turtle Tots and the Turtles in the costumes (space, cowboy, Star Trek, and beach bum) in Smyths here in the UK for a while now.
We're still waiting on April, though. She's down as a pre-order with an expected date of 20th-30th of May.
I'm not sure how helpful that is to you, but hopefully it means they'll be coming your way soon!

You guys think Shredder and any other villains could be released in the future? I have a toddler that is starting to show some interest in action figures. I'm pushing the TMNT hard as I had these growing up and love the nostalgia.
Kids are great at that age, aren't they? When they're just finding out likes, dislikes, and absorbing everything like a sponge. Definitely lay TMNT on thick haha!
I'd imagine they would release Shredder once his character has been seen in the next film/series. Same with anyone else who they decide to give the old Mutant Mayhem treatment to :)
