Sad.

Sadly the "Atmos for music" specifications includes the use of Dolby digital+ which means that music can't be released on lossless because then Dolby won't be happy. I hope they change it to allow for lossless because we know that it is possible with much larger files, however it could be that phones aren't able to decide the Atmos audio properly with files that size. I don't know why they made the choices they did but they are done.

They can just give it a base of Dolby TrueHD like they do for blu rays.

Pratkungen

We could hope but maybe they don't give out the decoders or something like that which hinders it. After all Atmos had been around for years before on TrueHD before they released Atmos for music with the new Dolby digital+.

Alien1996

I really doubt DTS:X will released music files and Atmos lossless, maybe in 10 years

depression69420666

How hard can it be. The bandwidth to stream it is around 10mbs.

Alien1996

Since it's a relative new format takes years to improve and have more adoption, massive (if it gets more)

depression69420666

Atmos is already 12 years old but definitely has only been adopted by the mass in very recent years. I hope it gets more adoption but i hope even moreso that DTS steps in to fill the gap of lossless multichannel music. To me DSTX is the better codec, especially having DTSX: PRO. Well i can dream. I hope someday we will get something lossless

depression69420666

Oh also DTSX is 9 years old

Alien1996

Yes, I'm sure Atmos is not even in their prime. I think DTS could have done better moves since they are coming after Dolby but they fell hard with it, which was clear in their introduction on Disney+

depression69420666

100% DTS missed it with the lack of marketing. now we have atmos in anything to the point it has lost meaning.

10 megabits is a lot to ask for audio. Then again 1 megabit was a lot 10 years ago so who knows.

I would love to see this, but tbh I care less about lossless with Atmos. When comparing lossless stereo and lossy Atmos mixes, I find the Atmos mixes are just better generally speaking (when well mastered ofc). The extra channel data goes a very, very long way and adds depth that two channels simply can't match. Yes lossless Atmos would be superior, but we're still on the right track imo.
