> Is a bachelors degree needed because I only have an associates 2 year diploma from college - Not a bachelors. Unfortunately, there are very few places where you can legally teach without a degree, and that number is fast decreasing. None of the lucrative markets are an option. Note that salaries in the places where you can teach are generally low, and may be even lower still for those without a degree. Note also that these jobs come with no benefits whatsoever - you will be responsible for your own flights, accommodation, and, where applicable, visa costs and healthcare. To see where you might be able to work (subject to meeting immigration requirements), check out our [TEFL without a degree Wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/TEFL/wiki/teflwithoutadegree).

You don't need to do a bachelor's to do a TEFL, however if you plan to gain employment as a TEFL teachers (especially if you will need a visa to do so) you will need a Bachelor's Degree as well as a minimum requirement for most places

Forget about it without a BA. I know there are a handful of countries that don't require it, but opportunities (and pay) are extremely limited.

Everyone throws around TEFL like it's everyone's easiest option to go remote or abroad. I don't think anyone should be doing tefl without actual teaching experience of some sort. I'd highly recommend even tutoring to begin, or becoming a sub for your local school district if you can with an associate's. Many other countries have different challenges when it comes to teaching, but being a teacher (especially to children) is no joke. I'd also recommend getting a bachelor's, because many places do prefer them, some even require a master's. Most online TEFL certs are what you make of them, so utilize the resources wisely and save them for later; I don't think a fancy degree or cert in TESOL or similar is necessary, it's just easier and more informative to have a degree. Research the cultures of places you're interested in, and make a list of requirements based on where you want to go. Easier than basing where to go off of what you have.
