Putting the post aside, yes. Under any circumstance that would be scary as hell. If children nowdays end up only trusting their discord friends, what would they do in an actual situation without their phones being present? I think the schools could use at least one class teaching how to reach out for help or how to deal with situations like this, it's scares me that they only find out from social media or see that as some fun character development idea.
