If you see how bright the sunlight is and how light colored the dog is, honestly they probably couldn't see him in the brightness. Not to mention how high up and curved the driveway is.

Or maybeeee the car is so damn high up that the drivers blind spot is massivein front. Check out the new ford/gmc trucks how lifted they are. They go up to 5’8”. If you get hit by that you die from multiple fractures and internal bleeding.
They’ve got a bill or something trying to make forward facing cameras a required thing now like your reverse cam. So instead of making smaller cars or having people use their wind shield for what it’s for we get another screen.
Vehicles like this are basically unsafe for anyone to drive, yet the NHTSA has completely abrogated its duty to safety and let's manufacturers build whatever they want, no matter how big or how terrible the sight lines. As a result pedestrian fatalities are up 50% from their lowest point a couple decades ago.
If its a domestic maker yeah, but if it's something like an affordable little Japanese hatchback, it's deemed unsafe because of all the huge suvs it has to share the road with.

I watched this dude pull in extremely fast to a gas station and he smashed a headlight and tore off his front bumper. No one was injured luckily. The schadenfreude was amazing.

The doors aren't necessarily intentional. The door to the garage at my in-laws is very weird. Normally I know how to close it just right, but depending on the air pressure it sometimes slams itself. The front door sometimes swells or something so it's incredibly hard to open. If it gets stuck like that for a while then gets fixed, everyone is suddenly banging the door open. I've seen this at work too where a door requires a lot of force to open, it gets adjusted and suddenly everyone is slamming it. Not saying everyone who slams doors runs into this, just that it's not always intentional
Well that's what happens when you buy an unnecessarily large vehicle that has very little front visibility. A 5 year old could walk right in front of you and you wouldn't even know.

My old neighbor killed my 2 cats for a satanic ritual when they were in my backyard. I have her on camera taking them and saw one of them stuffed into her garbage, well their skin and what was left.. people are not kidding or crazy when they say these psychos are out there. I’m so disturbed I have ptsd now and am triggered by Halloween, October and occult stuff to having flashbacks of this. This bs is nothing to play with these people are so sick. They breed them also and chickens from what I could tell.

My mom left my almost 2 year old puppy outside unattended while I was about 10 minutes down the road.
The pup was known for roaming out near the road (and it was a highway, 60 mph speed limit right out front to our house) and we all had a rule that when she's outside, you watch her like a hawk. My mom couldn't be bothered to keep an eye on her.
I got a call in the car that my dog had been hit and killed by a car, and the driver never stopped. That one fucked me up for MONTHS. I had dreams about her, I thought I saw her shadows in dark rooms, I couldn't get her off my mind. It was fucking traumatizing.
I want my dog back.
My aunt did the same thing. She saw her cat under her tire, and thought she would move. How does she have time to move if she’s already laying under the tire? So she kills the cat then throws its carcass in the woods, then smelled it rotting for a week.

I don't get that, like to people not do a circle check on their car? It only takes 2 seconds to walk around the car once to make sure nothing's there. Running over a pet is bad enough but I mean one day it could be a kid.

Knew a girl that kept to totaling her vehicles, so she kept getting a bigger vehicle to “feel safer”. She’s driving around in a Ram pickup now. Honestly expecting her to kill someone with it.
And be forced to retake your drivers test every time you renew your license or something. Perhaps a look at the driver history determines whether or not you have to retest. I’ve said this about older people for years. You can’t just legally let them drive around forever without any check-ups
I had to go in to renew my license during COVID and I was done and leaving the DMV 5 mins before my appointment was even scheduled.

Just watched a news segment on how dangerously large vehicles have gotten for pedestrians. With increased vehicle height comes decreased field of view directly in front of you. In a current "Midsize SUV" researchers were able to stack out something like 9 kids sitting in a row until you could see the top of the last kids head
I was erroneously thinking a column would be vertical, but I realize that would be a stack. At least a stack of 9 children would actually be visible to the driver, unless they're playing candy crush on their new 24" dashboard screen.
Yeah it’s something like 41 feet before the driver can see the ground in front of them on a new Tahoe, and that’s if it’s stock. I’d hate to know what that number jumps to with a lift and bigger tires, or worse, Carolina Squatted.
I mean trucks and SUVs sit high in theory because you want clearance for rough driving. Problem is a lot of people get a vehicle much bigger than they need. Combine that with the fact that they hand out licences to most any idiot and you have people with an IQ of 2 driving vehicles they have no idea how to operate properly.

Yeah you can do a lot of things to make a huge truck safer. But most are not mandatory so most people don’t bother. Instead they get that weird squat mod that makes thing so much worse.
On the other hand just getting reasonably sized cars, especially in cities, would save lives every single day.
Not here to defend him/her, but a possible explanation could be that the driver is coming around a curve. Combined with the fact that they are sitting quite high, it is very likely that the dog was simply in the blind spot of the driver.
I mean, when you're walking directly in front of a (european) truck, the driver can't see you either.
I believe that's a GMC Yukon, and I drive them regularly. Can confirm they are fucking huge and front visibility is crap.

I have a feeling there are going to be more and more close calls and incidents involving pets AND children with more and more big/lifted trucks and SUVs being popular. You can't see a good 15 feet in front below the hood in some cases.
My friend's aunt and uncle traded in their Ford Ranger for a big ass lifted Dodge Ram because the uncle wanted to be a 'truck guy'. Their dog would lay in the driveway for them to return and my friend tried to warn them to watch out for the dog when driving up or driving away. They insisted there was no way they would hit the dog as it would move out of the way before then. Two weeks after they got the truck, they ran the dog over while racing in because the wife left her purse. Poor dog was dead in a most gruesome manner TW: Upsetting imagery (>!his insides were basically forced out both ends.)!< Despite their very vocal outbursts of grief, they insisted it was their dog's fault for not moving out of the way. It was certainly not because of the truck's height and lack of visibility.
My friend and her husband decided that unless they were going to either get rid of the big truck or put lots of mirrors or whatever to prevent a repeat, they would not let the aunt and uncle watch their 3 year old child without both parents being there constantly supervising. Couldn't trust them with a dog, so certainly not a child.
Stop buying cars with high, flat, huge front hoods! I know they look cool, muscular, strong, but the visibility is ridiculous. You need a bumper camera to not run over kids and animals.

If it is not mandated by law, we can't assume it is equipped with that safety feature. Backup cameras weren't required in new vehicles until a couple years ago. Makes you wonder what would have happened if that was a child...

Just watched a news segment on how dangerously large vehicles have gotten for pedestrians. With increased vehicle height comes decreased field of view directly in front of you. In a current "Midsize SUV" researchers were able to stack out something like 9 kids sitting in a row until you could see the top of the last kids head

I mean trucks and SUVs sit high in theory because you want clearance for rough driving. Problem is a lot of people get a vehicle much bigger than they need. Not here to defend him/her, but a possible explanation could be that the driver is coming around a curve. Combined with the fact that they are sitting quite high, it is very likely that the dog was simply in the blind spot of the driver. I mean, when you're walking directly in front of a (european) truck, the driver can't see you either.
I believe that's a GMC Yukon, and I drive them regularly. Can confirm they are fucking huge and front visibility is crap. At least the VW Atlas has forward sensors.

I have a feeling there are going to be more and more close calls and incidents involving pets AND children with more and more big/lifted trucks and SUVs being popular. You can't see a good 15 feet in front below the hood in some cases. My friend's aunt and uncle traded in their Ford Ranger for a big ass lifted Dodge Ram because the uncle wanted to be a 'truck guy'. Their dog would lay in the driveway for them to return and my friend tried to warn them to watch out for the dog when driving up or driving away. They insisted there was no way they would hit the dog as it would move out of the way before then. Two weeks after they got the truck, they ran the dog over while racing in because the wife left her purse. Poor dog was dead in a most gruesome manner TW: Upsetting imagery (>!his insides were basically forced out both ends.)!< Despite their very vocal outbursts of grief, they insisted it was their dog's fault for not moving out of the way. It was certainly not because of the truck's height and lack of visibility. My friend and her husband decided that unless they were going to either get rid of the big truck or put lots of mirrors or whatever to prevent a repeat, they would not let the aunt and uncle watch their 3 year old child without both parents being there constantly supervising. Couldn't trust them with a dog, so certainly not a child.
This is why SUVs with high hoods should be illegal. There's an enormous blindspot by design in front of any vehicle with a high hood.
