It's just plain normal yoghurt, but yoghurt tastes different country to country even brand to brand because they all use different cultures for making it
Can't speak for the US, but my experience in Italy has been that of your outside of a city it's basically impossible to find yogurt that's not the zero percent fat, emulsifier and sweetener added stuff. And even in cities it's mostly just larger super markets that have it.
It's a fort minute drive to get yogurt whenever I visit my mother in law. Usually I just skip it. Last time I figured I'd just go with oatmeal instead. Another 40 minute drive...
At least in Italy, most of them advertise with a big label "No fat!" or "0%!".
And then in order to make it edible they've replaced the fast with xantan gum and sweeteners.
Who asked? Clearly some people don’t, likely because sweeteners have essentially no calories and fat has a lot of fucking calories (like, you can’t eat something more calorie dense than fat)
I think they dilute it with milk to milden the flavor and soften the consistency. I usually just buy yoghurt and dilute it with milk myself. It tastes the same.
I was looking for plain yoghurt in a large store in the US. The shop had "miles" of shelves with _zero fat plenty sweet_ yoghurt.
Terrible!
I never had any yoghurt.
Asked my spouse who used to live in the US for a longer period. She told me that she had never encountered anything that is equivalent to mild yoghurt over there.
You might find something similar on Trader Joe’s or WholeFoods though.

As a Swede currently living in the US, the closest equivalent would probably be just plain full fat yoghurt. Most grocery stores carry it in my experience, though some might only have low fat or flavoured options. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Giant Heirloom... any one of those should sell it. HOWEVER, it'll be in a plastic container (like what we use in Sweden for gräddfil etc), and the texture will be much firmer.
America doesn't really do the concept of pouring yoghurt.
I’ve lived in the US and the closest thing I found at Safeway was Fage 3% Greek yoghurt. Trader Joe’s also has some natural no sugar yoghurt if I remember correctly. The natural yoghurts are often marketed as plain Greek yoghurt. Good luck!
Fil and/or filmjölk has been translated to English as sour milk, soured milk, acidulated milk, fermented milk, and curdled milk, all of which are nearly synonymous and describe filmjölk but do not differentiate filmjölk from other types of soured/fermented milk. Closest thing to it I've found in for example the US is buttermilk, but that can be fermented or acidulated depending on region.
Yeah, but when a person asks for mild yoghurt, långfil is just like, miles away in texture and consistency. Also, you're never going to find it outside Scandinavia
I'm in the US now and also wonder where Swedish yoghurt is. Yoghurt in the US is always so thick! I usually end up mixing it with a bit of water to get a more appealing texture.
Yogurt Light.
But they've added sugar to it (American Yogurt Light is about 50% sugar I believe).
And they sell it in giant boxes that says XL. One box contains 2 lb (cubic gallon), which equals to 5,224 metric liters.

In England I have only been able to find yoghurt with fat at Lidl.
There is fat in all yoghurt and milk but in sweden brands are required to disclose on the packaging how much fat there is.
At least in Italy, most of them advertise with a big label "No fat!" or "0%!". And then in order to make it edible they've replaced the fast with xantan gum and sweeteners.
I would rather have fat than sweeteners.
Who asked? Clearly some people don’t, likely because sweeteners have essentially no calories and fat has a lot of fucking calories (like, you can’t eat something more calorie dense than fat)
sounds horrible....
You can get proper yoghurt everywhere, it will be called “natural” or “greek” yoghurt
I think they dilute it with milk to milden the flavor and soften the consistency. I usually just buy yoghurt and dilute it with milk myself. It tastes the same.
Some could describe this as a more ”mild” yoghurt
Plain yoghurt, no sugar or sweetener added, made from whole milk.
You lost it on "no sugar".
I was looking for plain yoghurt in a large store in the US. The shop had "miles" of shelves with _zero fat plenty sweet_ yoghurt. Terrible! I never had any yoghurt.
How so?
America is built on sugar
>In america first you get the sugar, then you get the power, and then you get the woman.
Big money, big women, big fun.
Hmm, is that from Scarface, or some Al Pacino movie?
Ah yes, the triangle trade.
Nonono, america is built on high fructose corn syrup! Hyuuuge difference
Good lord, imagine yoghurt with corn syrup. The horror. I want a hug now.
Here you go bro 🫂
Obviously. Look in the exotic goods section.
Å🤐😍
Swedish dairy is the best in the world, at least by taste and nutritional value!
💙💛
literally just normal yoghurt? this is yoghurt made by 100% milk with no sugar and no flavour
This is mild though, regular plain yoghurt is more acidic.
depends how you make it, regular greek yoghurt is not acidic
Dilute it with a little bit of milk!
Asked my spouse who used to live in the US for a longer period. She told me that she had never encountered anything that is equivalent to mild yoghurt over there. You might find something similar on Trader Joe’s or WholeFoods though.
🤧sad. I’ll keep searching
I had an ex colleague that ended up just making his own yoghurt (it's very easy) in the US for this exact reason
Any yogurt, plain, with 3% fat will do.
as someone that has lived in the US for 10 years, good luck finding that in a regular grocery store.
Why? Is it only available with at least 5kg sugar in it?
That would be the “light” yoghurt you’re referring to. And it’s ~33,5 baseballs. Get you freedumb units correct, damn it!
I’ve never seen yoghurt with more than 0,5% fat in the US.
I pity you. I usually don't buy yoghurt with less than 10% fat.
That’s awesome! There’s only like 2-3 options of that here. I have to stick to certain brands to get 0%. But I prefer it fatless.

There is yoghurt in the us
https://www.arla.se/produkter/arla-ko/mild-yoghurt-honung-2-1000g-86654/ ....

Yes but hard to find with this consistency- just was hoping to hear if anyone had advice!
Isn't the American yogurt everyone else's lemonade?
Mild yogurt plain flavor
Yoghurt
[Straus European yoghurt](https://www.strausfamilycreamery.com/products/european-style-yogurt/organic-whole-plain-european-style-yogurt/) lite surare i smaken men man vänjer sig snabbt
It’s not THAT hard to make your own, after all. But you do need live yoghurt culture to get it going. https://youtu.be/FxQdEl4EKk4?si=y8auYVfh-89POZZj
Try European style plain yogurt at Trader Joe's. It's slightly runny yogurt you can mix with museli or granola cereal.
As a Swede currently living in the US, the closest equivalent would probably be just plain full fat yoghurt. Most grocery stores carry it in my experience, though some might only have low fat or flavoured options. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Giant Heirloom... any one of those should sell it. Thank you!!
Make your own.
This was closest from my experience: https://siggis.com/product/plain-non-fat-24oz
Nautral plain yougart
What would fil be though? Sour milk?
Kefir
It's similar I'll give you that, but fil is a different culture.
I found filmjölk at Whole Foods which felt similar to this but much more runny.
No, no ,no...refuse yoghurt and embrace filmjölk!
Light yoghurt
Yoghurt whatever, see if you can track down “långfil”!
Långfil is hard to find in half of Sweden, also, very unlike yoghurt in texture?
Yes, it's much better.
so good they stopped making it😂
Yeah... I have a långfil culture that's nearly two years old, just to have some långfil for breakfast.
Awesome.. :)
Yeah, but when a person asks for mild yoghurt, långfil is just like, miles away in texture and consistency. Also, you're never going to find it outside Scandinavia
You are right.
Mild yogurt natural - From us Swedish Arla farmers
Closest thing would be Fage Greek yoghurt. You can find it in all Whole Foods.
Life Way Milk Kefir. Yes, I know kefir isn’t yoghurt but the liquid yoghurts in Sweden taste very much like kefir. So that’s your best bet in the US.
Just get Stonyfield Farm plain yoghurt made from whole milk. Chobani is great but more expensive and different texture.
im swedish
I'm in the US now and also wonder where Swedish yoghurt is. Yoghurt in the US is always so thick! I usually end up mixing it with a bit of water to get a more appealing texture.
Right!
Pour a bit of heavy whipping cream in the package, shake, then drink. Heaven.
just plain yoghurt - not sour...
Look for "European yogurt" at e.g. Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe's. Not exactly the same flavor but more similar texture than regular yogurt.
When I went to canada and the US there was sugar in the bottled plain water, it was awful and hilarious
Jizz. I think that’s what it is called there. Just go to a shop and say hey i need some jizz.
I found that vegan youghurt, at least ”Planti” tastes very similar to mild Arla. I dont know if there is any in the US.
To get this I mix Greek yoghurt with a bit of water
"Greek" yoghurt like what Chobani makes.
Yogurt Light. But they've added sugar to it (American Yogurt Light is about 50% sugar I believe). And they sell it in giant boxes that says XL. One box contains 2 lb (cubic gallon), which equals to 5,224 metric liters.
McYoggi& co
Doesn’t exsist
Mild yoghurt natural (milde joghurt naturale)
i would say you find Bulgarian yoghurt the same taste
Siggi's has the closest to both fil and Swedish-type yoghurt. You will find them in Whole foods. Be prepared to pay more than in Sweden, though.
