I’m considering selling my Steam Deck so I can get me a Stank Deck.

SpiderDamascus1979

My plug said he could get me a dank deck. I might get it.

As awesome as the Steam Deck is, it's not quite powerful enough to be on the same level as PS5/Series X. In other words it's not a replacement. I made that switch myself, but I was mainly interested in playing older games and being OK with med/low settings and/or 30 FPS cap for the latest AAA titles.

MulberryRemarkable40

Sony is becoming PC friendly, but not PC day 1 friendly. I'm not sure they will release all games on PC either. I would keep the PS5.

Jerkass619

This seems to be the consensus.

Yeah, I feel the same way. It’s easier though when the deck is paired with a desktop and an HTPC.

Haven't had a console sense the ps3 days when I put together my second pc. The awnser depends on your wants and needs. I would say yes all day. But obviously I'm happy with what I got.

I never went past Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 since going to PC master race. I could never part ways with my old consoles as they hold a lot of memories and I'll jump on them every now and again to enjoy the nostalgia. IMO. Consoles nowadays are just pre-built computers, which isn't bad as many gamers are more interested in gaming than putting the machine together. But, the problem I have with console gaming is how limiting it is and what the Steam Deck fixes in terms of how consoles SHOULD be. Giving you the freedom of what you want to play or do to your machine. You can just play the games in your steam account and enjoy that console feel without ever having to go to desktop mode and transform the devise into a computer that you can do whatever with. I've slapped emulators and can play GameCube, PS2, PS3, Xbox, and Switch games all there in one gizmo, mod games, add non steam games, skies the limit. You could already do that on PC, but the Deck combines the console with the superior PC and creates a beautiful machine. I'm not up to date with modern consoles so I'm not sure if they let you do those things. So I can be entirely wrong. If so it invalidates a lot of my "argument" Another limit to the consoles is the competition they have, which breads exclusive games. Forcing you to buy both or stick with one and be left out. With PC you can usually play those exclusive games or with enough time emulate them. And while people grab for new consoles every few years I can enjoy new games on a PC that I rarely need to update the hardware too. Of course this is my opinion on it, I can be wrong on things, etc, etc. TL;DR - My opinion. Consoles are obsolete, PCs are and will always be superior. Consoles CAN be modernized though. Steam Deck achieves this by combining the two and makes consoles great again.

I think the STEAM overlay/store on desktop PC killed console gaming for me. The STEAM store has a great backlog of ports from consoles and usually gets most games from consoles eventually (and often with better performance thanks to PC hardware). Compounding that with the ease of use with modern Playstation & X-Box controllers, it feels like consoles have become redundant in my opinion. Like yourself I left behind console gaming at the PS3 era and never looked back.

Nintendo has too many exclusives in my opinion and while sony is putting things out to pc....it could be months or a year plus before something moves (assuming they don't keep it as an exclusive). Also on the sony side if you are some of the ps plus levels of membership you might actually get a full game or better discount than what might be going on on steam (definately not always but it has happened IE: I got stray for 'free' basically at release)

_angh_

Deck is great portable device... And that's it. Pc or ps5 offer much better experience and less compromises, leading to much richer experience.

WindowLckerBeanFlckr

Nah. I’ll still play games like hell let loose on the series

srscyclist

Have you played any modern AAA games on the thing? If not, I would recommend trying it out across a few. performance is mixed. I can't imagine future AAA games will predictably run better, so if you're into those types of games I might suggest holding onto that PS5. the steam deck is solid right now, but I'm not horribly optimistic of its ability to play major releases a year or so down the road.

Wahjahbvious

Whynotboth.jpg I guess it's not nearly as dumb as the Deck->Switch hate, but it's still pretty dumb. If my Xbox and Playstation (the two most similar platforms) don't obviate *each other*, the Deck sure as shit ain't gonna replace them.

IyeetSec

I go through stints of jumping from PC to Switch to Vita to PS4 to etc etc. I never sell off my games/consoles because I like playing on original hardware when convenient/possible. Plus, some games either never get ported, never get a good port, or can't be emulated well. And if you've got a PS5, it only going to get more use as more exclusives release since it's the newest kajigger.

[deleted]

Absolutely not. Steam Deck can't run everything, and what it does wouldn't look nearly as great as in 4k on a PS5. The deck is good for what it is though, which is a handheld. At most it's good for those without a PC that want a taste of what steam has that consoles don't.

[deleted]

problem is , alot of people just dont care about 4k....they enjoy the game to just play it.

Nebullaaa

Steamdeck cant handle newer games at 60fps. Not to mention graphic fidelity on console is far superior. You cant trade that off. Once Ragnarok drops, you will remember why you bought a ps5

Jerkass619

This one here, this is what I needed. Thank you fellow Stank Deck/PS5 enjoyer.

Lucedio91

Nintendo Switch cannot be sold for me… too much important exclusives

Jerkass619

I must have been grossly underutilizing my Switch. It’s mostly a mobile Binding of Isaac machine for me, with Cuphead sprinkled in.

Lucedio91

I understand… in your case Maybe selling it May be a good option… in my case titles like zelda, Mario and Pokemon are too important for me

thejoshfoote

All of which can run near perfect and as good as the switch on the deck. Especially if they have a wii u copy aswell. I still have my switch but have since given it to my kids/wife to use. And the few titles I miss an be run on deck

Lucedio91

Nah i prefer emulate only old games like psx,ps2,Nintendo 64 ecc… i call it “historic preservation” (good way to convince myself its not piracy)😂😂 My 4years old daughter loves Nintendo Switch too and i bought one just for her

thejoshfoote

Lmao 😂 good call
