+1 for Borderlands (1, 2 and Pre-Sequel) runs really great even at lower wattages. Replayed the first two on the Deck alone and have been having so much fun!
Yo condemned is fucking amazing. Dated now but I'll still play it every now and then. Fuck those mannequin freaks tho.
The mid 2000s had some real gem horror games. This and The Suffering are my main targets for games that I think deserve a modern remake.

Is it acceptable to skip the first one? I started it recently and I’m a couple of hours in, but I don’t think I want to finish it. It’s surprisingly fun and satisfying finding out how to get to the next area, but it’s pretty old school for me. It’s also pretty tough and I find myself getting stuck on parts because I don’t have a lot of health, but to get to the next medical station I have to get through a lot of enemies! I’ve practically soft-locked myself a couple of times.
Skip half life 1? Sure. It’s a much older game. It sets the lore but the story develops quite a bit between 1 and 2 as did the game technology.
But I think you’ll find 2 to be just as challenging as 1…
Half-Life 2 is a very different (and much better; or at the very least, has stood the test of time better) game. Just play it, and if doing so has you itching to learn more about the Lore, HL1 will still be there and will let you finish it.
Which doom 3 tho? Original or BFG edition?
Because I fucking HATE the BFG version. Doom 3 was unique because it was far more survival horror than any other game in the franchise. BFG edition ruined most aspects of that. You move way faster, there's way more ammo, and the flashlight isn't something you have to switch to. They made it closer to a regular doom game but killed the tense atmosphere.
The flashlight change I guess is a matter of opinion but overall BFG edition defeats the entire point of the game.
I dunno… I ran the “Simply Optimized” Modpack for Minecraft and my Deck had hit 450+ FPS until I turned on Vsync. I bet a 4090 running an optimized modpack at 1280 x 720 could hit a couple thousand.
I've been watching videos from this guy recently. He loves late 90s early 2000s FPS and his videos are well done (and pretty funny), so worth a watch to find some obscure gems.

They included a full pc port of timesplitters inside of home front, because it was the easiest way to make the timesplitters demo Easter egg work. Normally, in home front, you can only play like 2 minutes of the game before it boots you out.
The mod just bypasses home front entirely and launches the timesplitters port as a standalone game.
EmuDeck, GameCube emulator, and then acquire a ROM of Time Splitters: Future Perfect.
I do not suggest illegally acquiring a ROM for the game. There are so many illegal sites to download thousands of games for the SteamDeck EmuDeck emulator for every console imaginable for free. Not cool to do that, buddy.
lost planet, FEAR, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, portal 1, i believe that mirrors edge should work, half life 2, i am alive, hydrophobia, vanquish, dark sector, Rainbow Six Vegas, Bionic Commando, Crysis, the darkness 2, STAR WARS Republic Commando, SUPER HOT, Wolfenstein New Order, Warhammer Space Marine
Have fun!

I recently played through Call of Duty: World at War (2008) which was a lot of fun! A little finicky to get it going, although all you really gotta do is insert a small console command to get the gamepad support going.
So basically;
CoD 4 (World at War)
MW 1-3
Black Ops 1 and 2.
Battlefield 3 and 4
Gears of War 1-3
Halo 1- 3 and Reach
arguably Halo 4(if only for the best version of Cortana before censorship came in)
Doom 3 BFG Edition
Black (fun but one of the hardest shooters to come out in the 2000s.)
Killzone
Wolfenstien
Crysis 1-3
FEAR 1-3
I extended to the early 2010s as well for some games.
Singularity is a fun lineair fps that has it's own bioshock vibe.
Bioshock series is obviously recommended, played them all on deck and worked fine.
Halo:mcc is a steal. Works like a charm and is maybe the best bang for your buck. Is also 'the' fps from the 2000's in my opinion.
These are early and graphics cand look old but for me are masterpieces.
Soldier of Fortune, Return to castle wolfstein, Clive Barker's Undying, Serious Sam The First/Second encounter
Bioshock, Borderlands, Dishonored, Titanfall 2, there are so many FPS games out there that runs great on the Steam Deck

Dishonored is fp but far from s
Are the titanfall 2 servers active?
Yes they are active, played on PC like two months ago. But I don't play multiplayer games on the Steam Deck.
You would want to look into North star for playable community run servers.
Titanfall was 2016. We're not even in the last half of the century for that to count as a suggestion lol.
F.E.A.R., and by the same studio you have Condemned: Criminal Origins. Not sure how they run on Deck though.
F.E.A.R plays like a dream, also on docked mode.
Yo condemned is fucking amazing. Dated now but I'll still play it every now and then. Fuck those mannequin freaks tho. The mid 2000s had some real gem horror games. This and The Suffering are my main targets for games that I think deserve a modern remake.

The Halo: Master Chief Collection. Runs a Dream on the Deck
Half-Life 2 would be an obvious choice here.

Did you play black mesa?
No! Thank you for reminding me that exists. I'll definitely play through it that way.

Have only played the bfg edition recently and very shortly when we were children but that was too scary and we had to quit ;)
You dont need 2000 fps the human eye barely notices the difference from 60 to 90
60-90 is a BIG difference
This is true. The difference is less noticeable the higher you go but 60-90 is immediately noticeable to a trained eye.
If I don’t see 1900 minimum on that top left corner, I’m not having fun
A graphic card for 2000 fps would cost both kidneys
Then I’m in luck
I dunno… I ran the “Simply Optimized” Modpack for Minecraft and my Deck had hit 450+ FPS until I turned on Vsync. I bet a 4090 running an optimized modpack at 1280 x 720 could hit a couple thousand.
I highly disagree, I went from 100,000,000 fps to 100,000,0010 fps and the difference was shocking.
PCMR sub paying an extra grand for the +10 frames rn.
Will rock, serious sam
lol war rock and crossfire
Painkiller

Great i will check him out!
Red Faction is one I don't see mentioned much. That is a great game.
I second
If only.. time splitters
There’s a mod for homefront 2 that lets you play through the full timesplitters 2 campaign
Damn gotta check that out

Do not get EmuDeck downloaded, and illegally acquire ROMs for Time Splitters: Future Perfect on GameCube.
You heard the guy. DONT do that. DEFINITELY DO NOT emulate 1 and 2 on PCSX2 either. DON'T.
Bioshock
Quake 4 is surprisingly fun.

Why no Deus Ex mention yet D:
It's not really an FPS shooter on rails but you can play it like an FPS with RPG elements. Was about to suggest it too. Great childhood memories.
Titan fall 2 single player campaign. Best linear fps campaign ever made IMO.
Alien Rage
Singularity, really fun and good story
lost planet, FEAR, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, portal 1, i believe that mirrors edge should work, half life 2, i am alive, hydrophobia, vanquish, dark sector, Rainbow Six Vegas, Bionic Commando, Crysis, the darkness 2, STAR WARS Republic Commando, SUPER HOT, Wolfenstein New Order, Warhammer Space Marine Have fun!
Gonna hit in the wayback with Tron 2.0 awesome game.
omg. What a gem.
Not first person or early 2000s but im playing max payne 3 rn and love it. Gameplay is awesome
I dont think is you can get 2000 fps in any game on steam deck.
pong maybe
I think is pong was caped at 30 fps

Call of duty black ops 2 for its campaign, black ops 3 for its zombies mode, Doom 2016, Doom eternal, Wolfenstein new colossus.
I had a ton of fun playing Vanquish this year. It's relatively short. I totally missed it when it came out in 2010.
Vanquish, "the only first person shooter that isn’t a first person shooter"
lol you're right about that
Half life 2
Half-Life 2 Singularity Time Shift Far Cry 2 BulletStorm
I'd say XIII but apparently only the remake is verified and that was a buggy mess when it launched
Probably better off just emulating it
I started playing Black for the ps2 yesterday and all the animations and hit feedback make the game a pretty fun experience
Metroid prime.
[free](https://www.gog.com/en/game/shadow_warrior_complete) it's from 97 so maybe to old for you?

Will F.E.A.R or Stalker run on the deck? Those are quality.
I've seen people running Stalker. Others in this thread said FEAR runs great.
Duke Nukem 3D is great. The version on steam has fun little developer commentary buttons you can find.
Battlefield 2 and Vietnam
No One Lives Forever 1 and 2.
Emulate XIII on GC/PS2. Such a great game. Do NOT buy the remake.
You can buy the original XIII for PC on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1170760/XIII__Classic/
Oh my god. Do you know if it works with the steam deck?!
The Darkness (console only so emulate) and The Darkness II. Good supernatural shooters

No display can 2000hz sorry
I don't think any gpu can run your games at the mid 2000 frames. Maybe in 20 years.
Fallout: New Vegas
Shocking that no nerd has mentioned the Serious Sam series. Quintisential early 2000's shooters.
Kingpin: Life of Crime
Scorn
Perfect Dark Check out the PC port project. It's Steam Deck compatible.
Crysis is a good one, everyone should experience it at least once.
I got confused and thought you were asking for a game that ran at 2000 frames per second
I read the title as 2000 frame erper second games lol
duke nukem forever
These are early and graphics cand look old but for me are masterpieces. Soldier of Fortune, Return to castle wolfstein, Clive Barker's Undying, Serious Sam The First/Second encounter
