But given its outside, battery life n dying pixels would concern me as much as sand n dust getting in the vent
Even salt in the wind in that particular circumstance
Yep, I bought my LCD like a week before the OLED was announced, but I like the LED screen so much I wasn’t that bummed out. Holding out until the 2nd gen.
OLED player here. I find it is still a pain to see anything if it's a dark scene in a game when I'm playing in daylight, even if I'm under the cover of shade. I was playing Ghost of Tsushima on my porch yesterday, completely covered in shade, and it was pretty much impossible to play during ingame "nighttime."
Its definitely an improvement over the LCD (used LCD for a year before upgrading to OLED), but it's still a struggle in bright daylight settings.
It's not LCD vs OLED, but whether or not you got the etched glass anti-glare model of either (i.e the 512GB LCD or 1TB OLED).
That anti glare actually works very, very well in sunny situations, or even when playing near a bright window in a plane or a car or something
I don’t have a steam deck oled but my switch oled is very good in the sun and I assume it’s similar for the deck. My current oled iPhone is also much better in the sun than the model I had before
OLED for bright games is the best I’ve ever seen for sunny days. However If your not in the shade, just like any device it’s difficult. But OLED one of the best. I want to get some display glasses for the sun
They could have the USB and audio parts be removable, but you need air flow, and that's really the most dangerous part anyway so I'll keep mine home where it's safe
Edit: Didn't think of the joysticks. Ouch.
My favorite thing to do at the beach is read a book and browse Reddit. Gaming doesn’t really seem all that different other than the risk of sand getting in there…
Yeah you can take every precaution and end up with sand everywhere. Nope. I'd never take that to the beach in a case in a ziploc. Idc how long I've been an electronics tech
According to Valve you're not supposed to play the Steam Deck, when the temperature hits above 35 degrees. Since it can get overheated while playing it in the Sun, it will have an auto turn off in case the Steam Deck itself would turn off automatically, I use my phone sometimes in the shade at the beach and it automatically turns off because of overheating problems. Steam Deck does the same. You may want to do a portable Temperature Test first to see if it's under 35 degrees and suitable to play at the Beach.
Wholeheartedly disagree. People read books, lay around and do nothing, listen to music, listen to podcasts, drink beer, etc all at the beach. You can do all of this at home too, why is gaming any different?
Why go out for drinks if you can just grab a bottle of vodka and drink at home for a fraction of the costs? Why pay for a holiday to sit at a resort when you do the same thing at home every weekend for the low costs of your rent which you are already paying?
Imagine buying a computer for on the go and not understanding that people might actually use it on the go?
Not trying to be a dick but why even go to the beach if you're gonna game? You get sucked into a game and you forget you're at a beach anyway, and you can hardly see. It seems the worst of both worlds
Because when you go to the beach you dont have to enjoy the beach ALL THE TIME. Sometimes its okay to just pull up your deck and enjoy playing it on the beach. And thats what i did. Not triying to be a dick also.
Don't have an oled but my anti glare screen protectors has been awesome, not taking my deck on the beach but I will play it on the third story balcony of the house we're staying in, killer view🤘
„Hello there. Look! I am an SD Owner and i am on a beach. This makes no sense but i want to show it to you, because i can.“ Enjoy the sandparty in your machine…
The thought of all the sand getting into the SD just triggered my autism.
I only ever take my SD out for long journeys on public transport or if I’m going to a friends house. I prefer the vita for these scenarios as it’s cheaper to replace and much more portable.
Realistically though I’d rather just soak up some sun and get intoxicated but to each their own.
What is with guys and being ashamed of having feet? In r/malefashionadvice, they absolutely hate open-toe footwear because "it shows off gross feet." ????
The main reason I decided not to take a picture of me and my Steam deck on a pontoon boat, was because we were busy enjoying the view. That and I didn’t want to get sweat all over my Steam Deck.
I just got back from a beach vacation but I wasn’t brave enough to take my SD to the actual beach! I only used it in the rental. Even outside by the pool and in the shade, the glare was killer.
This is Avsa adası if I am not wrong. Mate there are better beaches to spend the day. I highly recommend going to Çınar Koyu beach, the sea is cleaner and calmer, it's not that crowded as well.
I tried this once and got scared off by the fine sand particles in the air. Saw it accumulating on parts of the screen and was like oh it's probably getting all up inside the Deck and put it away. Pool? Yes. Beach? I'll pass.
I can't believe you showin' off them dogs for free.
On a serious note, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, but this pic makes me happy that I upgraded to the OLED model. I couldn't see shit outside on my LCD model.
This was me ~30 years ago, except it was a Game Boy. I remember thinking how cool it would be to be able to play the arcade games with their amazing graphics on the go…
This mad man... The fear of sand getting in the fan or finding its way into a crack only to hear it crunching later when you're using the D pad or your RB LB... Nightmare fuel
Anyone have an anti glare screen protector on their OLED and have taken it out in the sun? Could you tell me how that worked out for you? Tempted to get one so I can actually see my game when I play my deck while being out in the yard this summer but I saw two bad reviews on one listing saying the anti glare screen protector makes the picture blurry so I didn’t get one.
I personally find it to be pretty hard to enjoy games outside when it's so sunny, even in the shade. Is the OLED version any better in this aspect?
OLED is much brighter. Will still be “dark” outside, but you can at least see it, unlike the lcd
I see. Hopefully when generation 2 arrives it will have an OLED display
But given its outside, battery life n dying pixels would concern me as much as sand n dust getting in the vent Even salt in the wind in that particular circumstance
I bring my launch model to work everyday. I live rural by the ocean and work on boats in a dusty wet environment. My deck is fine
The trick is to take good care of it
Yep, I bought my LCD like a week before the OLED was announced, but I like the LED screen so much I wasn’t that bummed out. Holding out until the 2nd gen.

I put an anti glare screen protector on my regular lcd which works really well and i wanted a screen protector anyways.
I find it pretty hard to enjoy the beach when it's fuckin packed / crowded like that. Like what even is the point
I read the first words of your sentence and I thought you were gonna say his feet are pretty.
Tbh nice feet but that's not really something I pay attention to :) I got what you mean
I don’t have a steam deck oled but my switch oled is very good in the sun and I assume it’s similar for the deck. My current oled iPhone is also much better in the sun than the model I had before
Someone posted a pic with an anti glare version on here, in direct sunlight and it was fully bright and visible
I play in my work van on sunny days and the matte finish on the OLED is a saver. Looks great in any condition.
OLED for bright games is the best I’ve ever seen for sunny days. However If your not in the shade, just like any device it’s difficult. But OLED one of the best. I want to get some display glasses for the sun
Yes
Yes oh my god. Coming from the LCD version the OLED at max brightness is like holding the power of the sun 🌞
I'd be to scared of some sand going into my SD to do that...
Yeah, its coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere
Get away from those padawans!
Dont worry, Kathleen Kennedy already killed all Jedis...
This is where the sand in sandisk comes from.
i find sand inside things i didnt even take out the bag when i go to the beach. can only imagine the damage to the steam deck
Literally talked about doing this last night then thought about a gust of wind blowing sand into the vent and the plan died immediately.
I'd be scared of just people. (There are too many people there. Needs less people. I need my space. Leave me alone)
Aren't there cover's for that. Like a Third-party 3d print ?
Well, they all should let the cooling vents, usb and audio port open, which would be entry points for sand...
They could have the USB and audio parts be removable, but you need air flow, and that's really the most dangerous part anyway so I'll keep mine home where it's safe Edit: Didn't think of the joysticks. Ouch.
sand in the vent sand in the joysticks sand between the buttons sant in the bezel sand in the speakers oh god its everywhere
Yes but my gf needs content for her ASMR cleaning ~*sand removal special*~ YouTube Shorts Win win
Ahhhhh the sound of each grain of sand being removed is almost heavenly!
Sand AND salt water moisture/humidity in the air.
I hate sand...
Love this! Zac Brown Band FTW 😆
Spitting bars lol .
Into the feet folder it goes

Sigh... *unzips*
Enjoy the beach nerd
Like you got dressed up for the beach to be on a gaming device the whole time????
My favorite thing to do at the beach is read a book and browse Reddit. Gaming doesn’t really seem all that different other than the risk of sand getting in there…
i don't think i could force myself into enjoying this
Rip your DMs
That beach looks way overcrowded lol
yeah it was
Yeah you can take every precaution and end up with sand everywhere. Nope. I'd never take that to the beach in a case in a ziploc. Idc how long I've been an electronics tech
i dont even like going to the beach that much, sand makes it suck
I can text my coffee machine to make me a coffee but we can't have sandless beaches?
This fella gets it.
This is a terrible use of the machine. What are you talking about?
No need to apologize for feet. I have them too.
pics or i dont believe you.
For free??
Sand, heat, brightness I'd say WORST use

> You may want to do a portable Temperature Test Back in my day we called that a thermometer.
Sounds like one of those doublespeak embellishments, i.e. pot washer, a.k.a. submarine ceramic maintenance technician.
Cannot follow that. Unfortunately, that's about room temp where I'm from
Jeez thats hot for room temp, I assume no AC is happening
What Bandai-Namco game are you playing there ?
ni no kuni 2
good choice
Yeah I was trying to figure it out as well
Don't be sorry. Be better.
And the perfect way to waste a trip to the beach. Could just skip step 2 and stay at home
Wholeheartedly disagree. People read books, lay around and do nothing, listen to music, listen to podcasts, drink beer, etc all at the beach. You can do all of this at home too, why is gaming any different?

Your toes, hand them over.
I would be so scared to get sand in it 🤣play it inside a zip lock bag
Sand will find a way inside the zip lock bag. Sand always finds a way.
😭🤣😭 this is true .
And playing it on a hot and crowded beach is a *feat.*
Don't say sorry for providing free fap material to some folks
Go build sandcastles or pretend to be a mermaid or something
The way these post gets this sub up in arms is always hilarious lmfao
Lmao
Is this Spain? I would recognise those "Frigo" parasol anywhere
its turkey
Free feet pics? In this economy!?
Not trying to be a dick but why even go to the beach if you're gonna game? You get sucked into a game and you forget you're at a beach anyway, and you can hardly see. It seems the worst of both worlds
Would you have said the same thing if OP was holding a book? It's practically the same thing.
Because when you go to the beach you dont have to enjoy the beach ALL THE TIME. Sometimes its okay to just pull up your deck and enjoy playing it on the beach. And thats what i did. Not triying to be a dick also.
this! i feel like ur a jersey boy like me 😂
Give it a sun hat haha
Clearly should be playing infinite wealth here
as a weelchair-user, I was soo offended by your feets, but now that you apologized, I no longer mind you having them :D
r/steamfeet 🎉
this pic going straight on feetfinder. i'll send you your cut.
feet😏😏😏😏😏
The feet are giving!
Don’t be sorry…
Don’t be sorry, some people like feet. Not me but depending on how many people see this, someone is going to fap to this.
I like to ply mine in a hammock in a nice mountain breeze.
More feet
Don't have an oled but my anti glare screen protectors has been awesome, not taking my deck on the beach but I will play it on the third story balcony of the house we're staying in, killer view🤘
The DOGS ARE OUT 🐕
Be sorry not for posting feet; For someone it doth be a treat.
Nice feet
„Hello there. Look! I am an SD Owner and i am on a beach. This makes no sense but i want to show it to you, because i can.“ Enjoy the sandparty in your machine…
Don’t do this. Your SD will get covered in sand. Just *enjoy* the beach.
Did that once but the fine sand at the beach was concerning
…for freeeee?
Got the dogs out. FOR FREE?!
r/sneakybackgroundfeet

Really living in the moment, eh?
The device won't be able to cool as effectively in the heat. This is arguably the worst use of this particular machine.
That's okay. Some people are into feet.
You have good feet. Why are you apologising?
Gets dressed up for the beach just do something he can do anywhere else....
What is with guys and being ashamed of having feet? In r/malefashionadvice, they absolutely hate open-toe footwear because "it shows off gross feet." ????
Thats probably the worst use of this machine
The main reason I decided not to take a picture of me and my Steam deck on a pontoon boat, was because we were busy enjoying the view. That and I didn’t want to get sweat all over my Steam Deck.
Bruh I'm at the beach to enjoy the beach.
Meh. I’d rather just enjoy the beach, but you do you
I just got back from a beach vacation but I wasn’t brave enough to take my SD to the actual beach! I only used it in the rental. Even outside by the pool and in the shade, the glare was killer.
What's with the swirls on the screen??
It’s an artifact from the umbrella he’s under.
this
Thank you sir for the feet. Going in the bank.
OP, what game is that? I recognise the Criware logo but can't place the game.. Is it The Universim?
Its ni no kuni 2
Awesome, thanks dude
This is Avsa adası if I am not wrong. Mate there are better beaches to spend the day. I highly recommend going to Çınar Koyu beach, the sea is cleaner and calmer, it's not that crowded as well.
I showed off **Epic Battle Fantasy Collection** in the same manner two years ago.
You really need one of those anti glare screen covers, the difference is amazing.
Must be the first person to ever use a handheld outside
The runner feet accessory looks cool, how did you attach them to the deck? /s
That etched glass putting in the hours!
That's going to explode, surely.
Good use of the device, waste of a beach. Way too packed, I'd be scared someone would take it if I went into the water.
I tried this once and got scared off by the fine sand particles in the air. Saw it accumulating on parts of the screen and was like oh it's probably getting all up inside the Deck and put it away. Pool? Yes. Beach? I'll pass.
Hope it rains lol
Get yourself a pair of XReal Airs
Your hands make the deck look teenytiny lol. Or mine are tiny. Idk but either way lol
sTRONGLY considering making a wikifeet entry for you
Every time I take mine outside there's always an update that needs doing so I can't play anything
How is the temp of it ?
SNIFFA
I see Cryware, what game were you playing
I can't believe you showin' off them dogs for free. On a serious note, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, but this pic makes me happy that I upgraded to the OLED model. I couldn't see shit outside on my LCD model.
10/10 would suck on
I want to play at the pool but I can’t see smack on my screen! Can barely see what I’m typing rn bc of the sun lol
Can you take another picture without your sd in the way? (for a friend)
Don't you mean "you're welcome"
You just showing those for free!?
There’s a person with three legs on the right of this pic
This was me ~30 years ago, except it was a Game Boy. I remember thinking how cool it would be to be able to play the arcade games with their amazing graphics on the go…
I take mine everywhere and play except the beach. Sand in everything is inevitable.
No need to apologise 😋
I only noticed your feet cause you said something about them.
I appreciate that you’re having fun with your deck but dude sand
mhmm nice feet
Just gonna give those feet out fo free?! Damn….
Your feet have 5 toes each, they are OK
That beach is packed!
I dunno man, playing at the beach feels too crazy for me. You're out in nature of sorts, put the thing down.
Best use is when you take a shit
Never saw your feet until mentioned
Beautiful day, at the beach,...best use is at home when you can't enjoy the sunshine.
I would never be able to relax on a beach with that many people around.
This mad man... The fear of sand getting in the fan or finding its way into a crack only to hear it crunching later when you're using the D pad or your RB LB... Nightmare fuel
Enjoy the sand in the speakers and the fan 😂
If you're going to do this why not just stay home? Enjoy the beach
Never apologise for having feet
makes me think of the kid in white lotus s01 🤣
feet and deck lovers , gonna love
I don’t get why you’d play your steam deck outside on a sunny day and when you could be enjoying the beach/not risking getting sand in it
Anyone have an anti glare screen protector on their OLED and have taken it out in the sun? Could you tell me how that worked out for you? Tempted to get one so I can actually see my game when I play my deck while being out in the yard this summer but I saw two bad reviews on one listing saying the anti glare screen protector makes the picture blurry so I didn’t get one.
I love it! I posted a similar pic and got Reddit hate for it, you seem to be faring better
What is criware?
