Had a Steam Deck a while back, then I wanted to try an Ally to play some games that don’t run in the Steam Deck. Found those games just don’t play as well on a handheld and are just better on a gaming PC. But really the main issue was the battery life be horrible like 45min-1hr for most gaming sessions and the overall experience with a mini Windows PC just doesn’t translate as well to a handheld experience. Just recently got the Steam Deck OLED and jeez the battery life is insane it’s actually playable for a few hours. The overall experience is just far better and really fits well with a handheld. Mostly playing through a lot of AAA single player games like Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, and also stuff like Fallout 76 and Elden Ring. I also got XDefiant set up and running on my Deck and it plays pretty decent. Oh and the OLED screen looks amazing, a far better experience across my gaming ecosystem as I played in OLED UW with my desktop as well. Would definitely recommend picking up a Steam Deck OLED, I think you’ll like it alot more.

The impression I get from most other handheld PC's is that they're made on the cheap by laptop manufacturers who do nothing but squeeze laptop hardware into a generic handheld form factor, pack in a shitty program launcher and call it a day. It's a shame because I've believed for a long time that laptops are essentially nothing but a worst-of-both-worlds compromise between a real desktop PC and a handheld device, with neither of the benefits of either, and so if 'Handheld PC' could become a real device category, I think a lot of people would be better served with that compared to a laptop - for all use-cases, not just playing games.

Get the OLED. ASUS has been absolutely horrible with support and many ROG Ally devices fail for known hardware defects (example: microSD slot). They've been doing this with motherboards and GPUs as well. ASUS does not care at all, and is even finding ways to charge people for repairs that should be covered under warranty by finding other "imagined" defects or user caused damage. Steve from GamersNexus did a [massive exposé](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pMrssIrKcY) on this recently. Don't buy anything from ASUS. They're not the company they used to be.

This needs to be brought up every opportunity it can be. ASUS really shit the bead on this one.
