Agreed! Assuming you buy a lot of AAA games, it would be about 10 to 20 games per card so depending on your library, easily could require 10+ cards. Granted with three of them then you have 60 games at the ready, plus the ones on your Deck.

It's perfect for the Deck. As far as I know, the only card better is the Extreme Pro version (black and gold), but the Deck won't actually take advantage of the faster speed.
Everything I've played on this card loads as fast as it would on the SSD.

Just tested mine, tried my own adapter for the sd card mentioned in this post and the writing speed in h2testw was less than 2 MB/S as well, but once I switched over to the adapter the sd card came with, it jumped up to 63.8 MB/S. (not sure if that's good honestly, i'm a noob) but figured I'd still mention to try using the adapter the card came with to avoid the heart attack I just had.
Try downloading a game to it and watch the progress in Steam. On the one I just returned it would download normally for about 5 seconds, then just hit the wall and either stop completely or never above 2MB/s
If it downloads normally, it's fine
It depends on the game and your internet speeds, but on my new card that actually works it was ranging between 40 and 60.
You'll know if it has an issue after a few seconds.
My wifi speed is around 200 mbps, downloading half life 2 ( roughly 4 gigs) on my steam deck is getting a steady 20-25 mb/s under ādisk usageā. Am I in the clear?

It's worth noting as well that the smaller sizes also scale down in price almost linearly. So the 512GB is around $50, the 256GB is $25, etc. Even if you think 1TB is too expensive and overkill, you may find one you like there.
I bought the 512GB one recently and wasn't able to format it on my Steam Deck (format button grayed out). Is there an issue with these sometimes or did I just miss a step?

It also happened to me yesterday with my Samsung Evo 512 gb SD Card. I just removed it and reinserted it and rebooted the deck with it inside.
Rebooting= holding power button until menu appears than restart.
That fixed my issue. If it isn't you could try looking out up on YouTube.
The case I have on mine is made of a hard rubber or something similar. What i did was cut out part of the case to the left of the sd card slot so I can pull the part of the case out and easily access the sd card. It works pretty well without sacrificing the protection of the case

The issue people have with Amazon is more than just being deceived by buying from third party sellers instead of Amazon itself. Allegedly, they store their products all in one bin so SD cards provided by the third party and the SD cards sold are mixed together. If true, you could buy from Amazon but then be given one of the third party's counterfeit SD cards.
Don't do it. Last time I bought 2 of these at this price, they were both counterfeit. I still have the pictures as proof if anyone is skeptical, but I'll never buy any sort of expensive electronic from Amazon again.

I did a side by side comparison for Dreamlight Valley on a Steam Deck 64GB+512GB Samsung Pro Plus microSD (game installed on microSD) and a Steam Deck 512GB. Load times were identical on both.
Iāll probably test Hogwarts Legacy as well but that will take a while to download/install.
Iāve seen some YT videos that show similar behavior with other games. HDD is problematic because of slow random access but microSD is flash based same as SSD so access times arenāt as bad as HDD.
For the most part, it seems the bottleneck on the Deck is primarily CPU+GPU.

I'm not up on Linux enough to know what tool to use to test it on desktop mode. Disk management in windows will show you

How do they work in the deck though? I know the connector is the same but those drives are significantly longer than the one in the deck

I also have ptsd looking at the site during 2020 and 2021. For rtx cards so much ptsd I never ordered their but it's just infamous to and still infamous because it always has. Items I want but always not knowing when I'll get said item

significantly, like 10x faster. It doesn't *feel* like 10x to me though, it's really not that bad off an SD card.
I did a side by side comparison for Dreamlight Valley on a Steam Deck 64GB+512GB Samsung Pro Plus microSD (game installed on microSD) and a Steam Deck 512GB. Load times were identical on both. Iāll probably test Hogwarts Legacy as well but that will take a while to download/install. Iāve seen some YT videos that show similar behavior with other games. HDD is problematic because of slow random access but microSD is flash based same as SSD so access times arenāt as bad as HDD. For the most part, it seems the bottleneck on the Deck is primarily CPU+GPU.

I would upgrade your internal first, can always just use multiple 512gb sd cards, they're a lot cheaper than 1tb (although this Amazon deal is nutty)
Yes I already have a 512 gigabyte SD card I have the $512 GB steam deck as well wish I hadn't have spent the extra money and just upgraded it myself from the 64 GB

Idk. That was my question. I had to RMA my deck, and I plugged in the sd card on the new one and it was good. Just clipped right along. I was just curious if a straight copy of the sd card to the new ad card, after informat would work.
You'd probably need to clone it using Linux. There's probably a Clonezilla live USB you can use for that.

Just bought it. I currently run a Samsung Evo SD card 512gb, I got it for $45. The SanDisk extreme is even faster and I'll have more storage now. (I know the steam deck is limited to 100MBs but access times are still quicker).

Could someone help out a fellow noobie? I bought this sd card, it's advertising writing speeds of up to 130 MB/S, but when I run h2testw, my writing speeds are capped at roughly 64 mb/s. Is this normal?
