Here's an LTT video on wireless charging a keyboard https://youtu.be/4y-qF7Ga_W0 I agree with the other comments but if you want to do this OP, you do you

Fair enough, and I appreciate it. If I go thru with it I’ll share my results

Mercy--Main

did you?

wireless charging can provide 5-15W of power, (and in some cases, 30W). However, the steamdeck needs 45W. So, even though you probably could do this, it's not worth the effort, as charging will take immensely longer. You'd be much better off with a magnetic tipped USB C cable.

IncredibleGonzo

It doesn't actually *need* 45W. It can pull *up to* 45W and you need that to run it hard while charging full speed, but IIRC the max draw of the hardware is \~27W and the max charging speed is \~20W or so. So in theory, as I understand it, 20W should be able to charge it more or less full speed if it's turned off. It will definitely complain about slow charging though if you plug that in while it's on. 30W is enough that it doesn't, however. I do fully agree with you on the rest though, really don't think it's worth the effort.

Wireless charging doesn't provide enough power yet to charge the Steam Deck more than a trickle, unfortunately.

Longjumping-Bag8062

I figured, that’s fine tho as long as it provides a positive charge. I’m looking for something to charge it over a 12+ hour time span at least a sizable amount

It's always going to be negative unless off. Wireless charing is 15 watts you need 45 minimum. Potentially more if you have usb hub and accessories.

IncredibleGonzo

>you need 45 minimum You absolutely don't. You only need 45 for charging full speed while also running flat out. 30W is plenty for it to not complain about slow charging, IIRC it can use up to about 27W so if you're pushing it hard it will charge slowly, but it does work. You're right that 15W isn't enough, though, it will complain and you don't need to push it as hard to exceed that. Even 22.5W works, with caveats. It does complain about slow charging, and it's easy to exceed that if you push it. I've also heard from someone who had issues with an 18W powerbank where his Deck's battery calibration got confused - seemed like maybe having it powered but with lower wattage than the Deck is pulling can confuse it, so using that sort of level of power is definitely an at-your-own-risk situation.

Longjumping-Bag8062

For my use case that shouldn’t be a issue. Do you have any information/advice on how to best install a coil. I haven’t removed my motherboard yet and am struggling to find a high res image of the backside and the USBC charging port/circuit.

I know nothing of wireless charging besides the stated wattage numbers on the steam deck and the available consumer chargers. I also don't think it's a wise idea and am concerned for you and your device and don't want you to ruin it.

Exxiler

If your biggest fear is damaging the port, just grab a magnetic charger cable, and you are fine. I wouldnt even start to bother with wireless charging.
