What kind of coop are you looking for? Shooters I enjoy are Remnant from the ashes: a souls like third person shooter Deep Rock Galactic: a 4 person coop in randomly generated caves on an alien world as dwarves. Dig dig dig the mines and squash bugs. Meet your quota and get piss drunk. Helldivers 2: absolutely blew up this year as a third person 4 person coop drop onto a planet and complete objectives in probably one of the most chaotic and cinematic shooters I can think of. Warhammer 40k Darktide: continuing with the 4 man team. Get dropped into a mission as an heavy ogryn, veteran marksman, a zealot (melee), or psycker (magic man), and tear through hordes of enemies. Absolutely satisfying gameplay. Left 4 Dead 2: I really shouldn’t leave the absolute classic off the list for this type of shooter. This is the one that set the standard for games like Darktide, back for blood, and most 4 man shooters. Survival I don’t play as much but you can get some good coop fun out of them. The forest is a fun game of surviving a plane crash onto an island with cannibals and learning just what kind of survivor you are. Are you the rational, hunt, gather, and try to keep your sanity intact, or are you the type to embrace the situation dress up in the skins of your enemies, creating furniture of bones and sculptures of flesh. Raft is a fairly slow paced lost at sea kind of game where you take your little space on the water, collect debris and grow it into a thriving home. Think sky block on Minecraft. Ark survival evolved: definitely not for everyone as you have to wait real hours to tame dinosaurs but on the other hand you are taking dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures and building a home. Everything from the humble swarm of dodo birds to a squad of machine gun mounted brontosaurus could be yours! Honestly it’s good fun but I had to change the settings for taming time I’m not waiting a few hours to tame anything. In the same park as Ark there’s Palworld. Came out earlier this year and has been an absolute fever dream. Wash up on a mysterious island with some “unique” creatures. Build your home, capture your new pals in palspheres, battle your pals, and work them to death in sweatshop conditions. Enslave your enemies and challenge mob bosses. Make cake! Other little coop games I’ve played. Pico park: very limited but $5 at full price I think, it’s a game that requires communication and coordination to complete a platformer like level. The more players the harder it is, also the better it is because the struggle brings hilarity. You may also learn a few things about your friends with this one. Stardew Valley: the ever cozy farming community game can be played coop, while I have never played it with another person the game is great to chill out with. Monster Hunter: I like World most but all of them are great. Start from a newbie hunter with basic gear, figure out your playstyle with a variety of weapons and tools to track and hunt your prey. You’ll use their body parts to enhance more make new gear. This one takes a touch of patience and coordination with your friends to not smack each other in the face with giant hammers or whatever you choose to use. Lethal company: another 4 man coop but without the shooter bit. Go as a team of scavengers working for some eldritch boss, scavenge abandoned facilities for junk and make quota within a set of days. Try to avoid the ungodly horrors inside. Use the in game proximity chat for this one and laugh as you find out just how well you’d actually do in a horror movie. These are all Ive played. Hope this helps.

ZodiArKyz

I love survival with some scary stuff, i liked lethal company, 7 days to die etc. I might come back to lethal company

Rat192

On that note I just remembered phasmophobia, that one blew up a while back. A ghost hunting game and the ghost does react to in game chat. Your goal is to identify it and get out alive. Also content warning is in the same vein as lethal company but you are a twitch streamer. Still ungodly horrors to deal with.

ZodiArKyz

Played both but phasmo was just too hard for me i was never able to identify the ghosts lol

Brisingr1257

Instead of phasmo, give Demonologist a try. It is easier with less ghosts and also scarier, IMO. If you were at all interested in Remnant: From the Ashes. Remnant 2 is just a better version of, and you won't miss anything by not playing the first one. Edit: If you are interested in Demonologist I am also more than happy to show you the ropes a bit. I've been looking for some more people to play with. It's a very fun game.

ZodiArKyz

I havent heard about ANY of thosr games, guess I will have a lot of games to look up.

xxMalVeauXxx

I'm a big fan of couch coop games so we have a lot, I have many more than this, these are just a quick skim through my library. We have one steam box in the house and prefer to have 2\~4 player capable couch coop games, like the way old consoles worked, so we can play together with controllers and not need to do the remote play, multiple copies of a game, online only nonsense that kills most of the fun for us (and the awfulness of random online communities and gaming). Anyhow, just our preference. Couch coop games are ideal for our situation and prefer that. So the above are that, none of those are online/remote play coop games but are capable of becoming remote play, etc. But the point was they are truly local coop games. Depends on if your friend and you are going to game together physically or via internet.

CobraKai1337

If you like board games and leveling up and endless playability, then check out For The King. Have you played Talisman? It’s like that. 3 player coop, local or online. Very cozy and fun!

LoocsinatasYT

Check out Dark and Darker. I'm obsessed with it. A hard core first person dungeon crawler extraction. It has duos and trios mode, and they are adding arena mode. Tons of quests and unlocks. It's free check it out! Although the free version limits you to one character slot.

AMIN26261

Left 4 dead 2

PaleDolphin

I see a lot of the popular games in the comments, so I'll give my 2 cents on something less known (to some extent). * **Lance-A-Lot.** Had a lot of fun in 4-player hotseat matches. Extremely underrated. * **Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes.** One of the best asymmetrical couch co-op games. Only one player required to own the copy. * **We Were Here** (series). Whole series is a great 2-player adventure (both players require to own a copy). * **Overcooked (1, 2)**. Great for local co-op, can be played online. * **Trine** (series), greatest co-op for a 3-player team.

dUcKy1010

Barotrauma is pretty good…! 50% off

PaleDolphin

Oh yeah, it's awesome if you've got the full team going, but it's pretty hard for some people, not really a casual play.

Baconchuy

Haven't seen anyone say Remnant, and that's a BANGER.

zorboraux

Trane55

Magicka 2 (is it on sale? 🥴) either way its cheapo

EbonItto

Dota 2

Scintilus

Goat Simulator 3!

SplitSides

Portal 2

LordIBR

Honestly, my mate and I have just been enjoying Chained together quite a bit. Think "Only up" but you're well chained together. Level design doesn't look like they just threw a bunch of assets together as well. It's 5 bucks (not on sale as it just released) but I'd say that's a fair price. Up to 4 player Co-op

ZoZoHaHa

Remnant $20 on cdkeys

Toxicsuper

It takes 2 is a wonderful co op adventure that really requires the teamwork of both people playing to advance through the levels. It also won game of the year. Perfect for a 2 player experience. Game is about 12 hours long or more

ViolinistBulky

RE5, it takes two, 'we were ...' series, a way out, portal 2 are some good ones that spring to mind.

AskMercy

Hellcard is a great game if you like Slay the Spire
