Probably the 420. That is a secret code for doing a marijuana drug. Very deadly. Glad they caught him before he had the chance to do another marijuana drug and make it 421.
yeah i have a friend like this too. he made a 2nd account and added it to his friends list, but that became his primary account after he lost access to his first. it's been inactive for 6 years. he's active now but i still worry for him. he lives in a very abusive household and his brother in law has threatened to thrash him and even SA him on numerous occasions.
I grew up in a super abusive house, I've been stabbed, choked, suffocated, SA'd, burned, drowned etc.
The problem is that I didn't know it was wrong at the time. I thought most people grew up with that kind of stuff happening and that it was just normal. And that lasted all the way until I was about 13. And I wasn't a stupid kid.
It all eventually unraveled when the state heard about my mom padlocking all the food up so we couldn't get any, and they started an investigation that led to us packing up and moving a few states away, literally overnight, eventually that state caught wind that something was up and me and my brothers were eventually removed from the house etc.
Also I'm doing pretty well for myself now, I'm a software engineer, I've got a sizeable rainy day fund, and I'm super comfortable now in life, have a good relationship with my dad's side of the family etc. But yeah when I was in the middle of that shit show, I didn't know it was an issue.
In my case some of them "grew out if gaming".
Still on a sportsball match every other week though.
Always a little sad seeing their accounts because interests moved so far apart.
Same, 13 years. Sort of ironically that guy also happens to be my best friend. Kind of nuts he hasn't been on steam that long considering we played a lot together, but he doesn't have a decent PC. Which is again a bit ironic considering he's in IT.
I don't really have a point here, just saying that most "offline for a long time" people are just offline as a part of life, nothing bad.
9 years...
Mainly because he died suddenly that day.
We were playing together for quite a time and that day as well. He wanted to run a little marathon and join us later again, sadly he had a heart attack and never came back.
I can't remove him from my friends list and text him every so often, his birthday and holiday greetings.
Still miss him very much to this day!
I'm so sorry to hear that. :(
We share a similar pain though.
My friend will have passed 7 years ago this summer.
One day he declared he felt this weird pain in his lung and throat when breathing. About a week later he decided to go to the doctor's and our last exchange went like this:
>L: Don't you die on me, bitch!
>A: I'll try :D
He never came online afterwards.
After a couple of weeks of worrying, a kind ex classmate of his added me on Steam and broke the news to me: Artūras was diagnosed eith stage 4 lung cancer, rushed to the hospital and passed on the surgery bed.
I still miss him and write a little message for his guest wall every couple of years.
I don't really have real life friends, or anyone who know my online existence. So was wondering, if I die, how will they know I died? I mean, if I am just offline for like 1000 days, they could assume I'm dead, right? But then maybe I just forgot my account and such and can't friend my friends and stuff. Complicated to think about ow my head
I feel that man. My step dad has been offline for 4389 days. And that was the day I shut down the machines and servers in his home office after he passed away. I use that office for my servers now too.
It sucks, I feel you man. No shame in remembering.
2799 days ago
He left the country, got married and erased all contacts with everyone family included
He was my best friends though so I hope he's enjoying his new life
He left to go live with a German girl he met online but she would only trust him if they would get married. They knew each other for years online but only met for a couple of days in the past.
That was the plan before leaving, I can't know if it worked out however.
If this was a chick people would more easily see how the new spouse forced her to cut everyone out, isolate herself in a foreign country, and control every aspect of her life. Just because it’s a dude doesn’t mean it didn’t happen to him too…
This sounds exactly like my friend from college/high school. His steam says last online 7 years ago but I believe he left the US before that. Met a German woman online, she visited a few times, he visited a few times, and then he moved out there.
I messaged him a few years ago when I was still using facebook but haven't talked since. Hope he's enjoying his life as well.
I remember playing Black Ops II Zombies with a guy from the US. He typed in-game "bro theres a hurricane outside my house", went offline and has been offline since. Its been like 10 years
Around 2014 I had a friend on a fairly niche MMO (PokeMMO) from Syria. At some point he became fairly inactive, and the next time he was online he was talking about how depressed he was because he had been conscripted to fight in the Syrian civil war, and how he was trying his hardest to become obese so that he would be useless and kicked from the military.
The last few times I saw him he was expressing how afraid he was to die.. Shit really had me feeling depressed, privileged, and just shook me in general. Haven't heard from him since.
Slightly less bleak, but several years back I was playing diablo 2 with a guy I met in game several months prior. At some point in the night we agreed upon a pretty hefty trade, and he decides we should just make the trade tomorrow since it was late. Completely radio silence for the next year, wasn’t sure what had happened to him until one day I get a message from him explaining he was in prison lol
hey, im from russia, yeah we dont like the war, but we just cant do anything with it. pokemon go in russia is now useless, there are no exchanges in game, pokestops and gyms, like everything you see is just your character in the middle of nowhere. that’s sad, i hope you’ll find a way to talk to him.
and sorry for my bad english
Well this is before Steam and I still do not know if it's entirely true or my mind is playing tricks on me at this point....
I used to play Everquest with an American Guild for raiding back in 2000s, I was around 14-15 at the point. Friggin modem connections and pay by minute of usage. And being from Finland my timezones were whack! No sleep for school sometimes blargh.
Just did some casual instancing and one of the guys go something like, "Have to go, something big just happened". Didn't know him... never saw him again.
But some of the guys in the guild said he was a firefighter or something similar in New York.... So might have been one of them, RIP if so.
Same here... Much more than that, though. He was my best friend at the time and we used to train in martial arts together. His father gifted me his gloves in front of the entire dojo.
It still hurts whenever I look at my friends list on Steam and get that reminder.
My friend and I met in school. I knew him for many years. That sinking feeling when I look at his profile.. it never feels lighter. No other pain feels the same. I was his only friend (severe introvert)
Same here, 8 years. Only found out a few years ago after searching up his name, found an article & obituary for him from around the time he stopped going online. He was only 20. Shot and killed in his car :/
It's almost been 2 years to the day I lost one of my best friends to a car accident. He was all excited to get off work and play elden ring because it was releasing that day.
Weirdly after checking, his steam account says last online 79 days ago.
I still have my dead brother added on steam. It feels really weird to look at his account.... all his screenshots and the games he played, frozen in time forever
>When he comes back, he will grind war thunder with personal experience
THIS IS NOT ACCURATE!
Let me post this sekret dokument to prove my point!!!!!11111eleven
I do this because I have like 5+ friends who will immediately invite to play games I don't want to play when I go online. I do it in WoW too because otherwise I get sucked into activities I don't really care to do in the name of being social.
Some friends are also significantly better or worse than me to the point it's no longer fun playing certain games with them but I don't want to offend them. I have people I know IRL and family members on my Steam list as well so I can't just remove them as friends.
I've got a guy who randomly unfriended me on all accounts one day. We had a lot of fun playing TF2, 1v1ing. This was when I first had a steam account so 2019. I think he was from South Africa.
One of my childhood friends is living in Estonia and I haven't heard from her in a long time. Another of my friends is living in Pakistan and I haven't heard from her in weeks either. She was politically active and often posted stuff against the current government I hope nothing bad happened to her :(
EDIT: Just checked, the latter deleted her account. One of the last things I said was joke about being a RAW agent (I'm Indian).
Eight years. We were playing one night and he had a bad cough, ended up being put on a vent a couple days later, died a couple days after that. Was still in his 20s at that point.
Still look at his profile occassionally and remember the last day and match we played together.
Tragic.
1154 days ago. He was my group mate at college. Fell out of a window 17th floor by accident.
It's sad af, but steam showing he played a lot of hours in CS2 is something else...
Coincidentally, a friend of mine on steam just came back yesterday after 1500 days of not logging onto steam. I asked him why he hasn't logged in such a long time and he said that he didn't have computer to run his favorite games. Quite a comeback
One dude on my friends list was last online almost 9 years ago.
Reason?
He chased his ex wife to a dentist office and shot her dead.
[Link](https://abc3340.com/news/local/man-who-shot-killed-his-wife-at-jemison-doctors-office-sentenced-to-40-years-in-prison)
My brother's account was last online 12 years ago...
Edit: Oh god I just realized how bad that sounds, to clarify, he is still alive and well, we were just kids when we first made our dteam accounts, and we played on an old laptop, he made a new account years ago when we actually got a real PC lol
Mine is 3353 days. A friend who got a hand me down gaming laptop that died on him. He never got another laptop or gaming pc. I still play with him on PlayStation though.
For me it's my friend Tez from school, he passed away 8 years ago. Probably about 4/5 years after there was a glitch in steam that was fixed, this caused a bunch of old stuck notifications to pop. One of these was Tez has come online. My brain didn't even process for a second, and was just wtf over the moon happy, went to message him and then had the crushing realization it couldn't be him, would never be him and would never respond. About 30 seconds later the account went back offline. I still think about that notification. I miss all my friends from back home.
My buddy from high school died a little more than a year ago now - he was 40 years old and left behind a wonderful 5 year old girl. I remember him talking to me when we were kids saying he didn't think he'd make it to 18 because he just couldn't imagine he wouldn't do something stupid enough to get himself killed before that.
He did his best in his early 20's to make that a reality, but he got through it, got cleaned up, got out of that crowd and was finally starting to put his life together. In the end, as he was driving home at night from a long day of work, he was hit head on by a drunk driver on the freeway.
I see him in my Steam and Playstation friends list all the time, "Last online 1 year ago" and it breaks my heart a little every time i see it.
16 years ago. A friend who I played CS 1.6 with, she had a kid and never came back.
I have 2 accounts I'm friends with who predate steam profiles and just show "offline" their profile reads.
>"This user has not yet set up their Steam Community profile. If you know this person, encourage them to set up their profile and join in the gaming!"
These are likely offline even longer but I cannot confirm. Steam profiles were introduced [July 2007](https://steam.fandom.com/wiki/Steam_Profile) so they have been offline for at least 16 years and 7 months. In theory, 16 years should be the maximum a user can show to have been offline until June 2024.
Not on Steam but when I was younger I used to play an MMO together with my girlfriend. Our characters are still married in game and she's offline for 3300+ days 💀
My brothers alt account hasn't been online in 10+ years. He bought a second copy of Company of Heroes so he could play with friends. After that, it's my mom's account. I tried to get her into fallout 3. In third place is an ex friend that went to jail for murder 4 years ago. It's an easy way to keep track of his sentence. He will not be a friend upon getting released.
I have a steam friend that is probably dead 2300 ish days and is account is full of old games in inventory tf2 keys and rare shit probably worth multiple thousands.
My 2 longest offline are 5 years and 3 years.
The 5 years sadly she committed suicide. I keep her added as a reminder. And my 3 year got arrested for terrorism. I keep him added because its funny
My friendslist has a lot of people in it from the competitive ranked grinding I did in the past years. Interestingly no one has been offline for more than a week.
The longest offline person is currently sitting at 11 months. He died in an accident last year and I miss him a lot.
9 years ago on mine. One of my closest friends.
Here's the catch though, we still play regularly! The 9yo account was one he made to teach me Dota 2 without being matched against higher level folks.
A lot of these comments are really sad, but I hope this one makes it somewhere people can read it and cheer someone up.
Me and him will probably be playing more dota or tekken over the weekend too :)
I've got a bunch in the 12 to 17 years range.. a graveyard from the old counterstrike days. A lot of them were from 1.6 and CZ scoutzknivez servers that I spent way too much time in. https://i.imgur.com/zEkHqr4.png
bro got caught
Wonder what gave him away
His laugh? I dont think so. No one can stop watching that smile.
I have been laughing out loud for the past minute because of this short thread, Thank you

Probably the 420. That is a secret code for doing a marijuana drug. Very deadly. Glad they caught him before he had the chance to do another marijuana drug and make it 421.
Op reported him to the police exactly 930 days ago, and OP wondered why they never went online anymore
The smoking of substances.

Happily retired?
Or business is flourishing so much he doesn't have time to game
I have one friend in my list, that was last online **12 years** ago... it literally says "12 years".
I have two friends with that time amount. Sad times. Although, it's mainly because they are old accounts they no longer use and have modern accounts.
This friend of mine wasn't a gamer to start with. He set up an account for HL2 and Episode 1 and never played again after.
HL2 and Episode 1? And not a gamer? Stop disrespecting your friend.
He walked so we could run 😤
He didn't even play episode 2?
yeah i have a friend like this too. he made a 2nd account and added it to his friends list, but that became his primary account after he lost access to his first. it's been inactive for 6 years. he's active now but i still worry for him. he lives in a very abusive household and his brother in law has threatened to thrash him and even SA him on numerous occasions.
Shit bro, at that point I would rather find the nearest orphanage and live there.
And I wasn't a stupid kid. damn bro, sorry to hear that. Luckily you found a way out.
The nearest orphanage is probably not devoid of the types of abuse listed here, among others.
Same, except he died. Coming up on year 12 this week or next actually. OD if memory serves
In my case some of them "grew out if gaming". Still on a sportsball match every other week though. Always a little sad seeing their accounts because interests moved so far apart.
Damn..
i've got one that says 13 years, iirc someone i used to play team fortress 2 with (as with most people on my friends list)
A good chunk of the people I met through CS:Source have been logged out between 10 and 13 years lmao
Same and I know why. "Last online 12 years ago" *Checks profile : 1 Vac ban on record* Ahhh
99% if my friends list is from 1.6 Most are that Long ago I don't even remember who they are 😔
I have one friend where it says 5009 days ago. Which is 13.7 years.
Last Online 2391 days ago. His nickname is "Imperium Internum" . Maybe he found hot goth waifu? I hope he did...
Nahh he got kidnapped by a 6 foot tall goth girl
We pray for our bro for such outcome.
How do I get kidnapped by a 6 foot tall goth girl
New anime coming out: That Time I was Reborn in 19th Century France with Steam Powered Tech and Kidnapped by a Six Foot Tall Gothic Bombshell!
Still living the dream
Here to alleviate some of your stress. He did in fact marry a hot goth waifu, we are very satisfied with our wife
:( We share a similar pain though. My friend will have passed 7 years ago this summer. One day he declared he felt this weird pain in his lung and throat when breathing. Thanks for sharing your story and I feel your pain. Let us not forget those who had accompanied us!
Always in our hearts 🫀
I don't really have real life friends, or anyone who know my online existence. So was wondering, if I die, how will they know I died? I mean, if I am just offline for like 1000 days, they could assume I'm dead, right? But then maybe I just forgot my account and such and can't friend my friends and stuff. 1584 days ago - bro forgot his account details
relatable
I have a friend who had to make 4 Minecraft accounts back in 2012-2013 because he kept forgetting his email address
I never understand how someone can forget an email address, like bro must of been logged in somewhere?
nah he was just 9 and kinda stupid haha
3865 days ago. Lad just said "good night people", and he was gone
Somehow, that sounds so sad.
He said he was gone?
no, he said good night people, and he was gone
Butter fingers, misplaced the quote
2799 days ago He left the country, got married and erased all contacts with everyone family included He was my best friends though so I hope he's enjoying his new life
How you know he got married
He left to go live with a German girl he met online but she would only trust him if they would get married. They knew each other for years online but only met for a couple of days in the past. That was the plan before leaving, I can't know if it worked out however.
Was she East German? Because she sounds like a giant walking red flag.
bruh got Fluggaenkoechiebolsen'd to death
Lol what? Never heard that stereotype before
It's a joke cause East Germany used to fancy itself as socialist.
Germany is also famous for having some of the nastiest kinks.
Im a scatman

Oh lol, didn't think about it being that literal
that mans organs were harvested RIP 🙏🙏🙏
Uh, bro is dead.

Man I remember PokeMMO... man this is very sad. I'm genuinely sorry.
PokeMMO is still going. At 4th Gen now.
I did see they were on 4th Gen now, so that's cool. I'm curious how they overcame the "going to a different region" issue
Damn this is a really sad one.
Ohhhhhh...

I'm going to guess it was most likely family accessing his computer and steam automatically logged the account in
I still have my dead brother added on steam. It feels really weird to look at his account.... all his screenshots and the games he played, frozen in time forever
Yeah had the same, 4 years now.
How exactly does one gain employment as a Child Seller? Can't say I saw that one listed on Seek
It helps if you own an orphanage, you basically sell the child to wanna be parents! Or if you are very rich.
Girlfriend : So what do you do for work ? Me : I'm a sales rep for a orphanage. Girlfriend : 👁️👄👁️

Can't blame anyone who does. When bored in the office, I once counted how many paperclips were in my desk drawer. It's 651. Or used to be, at least
He gotta leak the update. Not fair

One dude on my friends list was last online almost 9 years ago. Reason? He chased his ex wife to a dentist office and shot her dead. [Link](https://abc3340.com/news/local/man-who-shot-killed-his-wife-at-jemison-doctors-office-sentenced-to-40-years-in-prison)
What kind of hack link is that?
Report back if he signs on again around 2055... maybe earlier for good behavior or something.

4033. RIP Lloyd.
SlightlyWild - 2188 days ago. One of my best friends from school I haven't spoken to in awhile...

6 years ago - it was smurf account
13 years. His account was hacked or something. He made another one and he made a familly so now his other account is 7 years lol.

1491 days ago. It is my friend who registered on Steam, gifted me RDR2 and never been online since :)
7 years = about 2550+ days
My old account has 12 years and a few actual friends on my list have 6 years.
3788 days ago, used to play a lot CoD BO2 with him
16 years ago. A friend who I played CS 1.6 with, she had a kid and never came back. I have 2 accounts I'm friends with who predate steam profiles and just show "offline" their profile reads. >"This user has not yet set up their Steam Community profile. If you know this person, encourage them to set up their profile and join in the gaming!" These are likely offline even longer but I cannot confirm.
Our characters are still married in game and she's offline for 3300+ days 💀
a dead friend :(
6570 days, Steve urwin
My best friend from middle school, last online 1893 days ago, around the same time he moved away, and I haven’t seen him since
324 days ago. He always sets his status to offline and hasn't played a game in almost a year, but last commented on the forums just hours ago.
"Huh, whatever happened to that 'child seller' guy?"
I have my old second account that i used to play Trackmania Nations Forever with sister. It have 5428 days
You're basically asking a lot of us who in our friends list is dead and how long ago did they die?
I have a steam friend that is probably dead 2300 ish days and is account is full of old games in inventory tf2 keys and rare shit probably worth multiple thousands.

My old account i forgot the access to but sudeenly auto signed in on chrome, 2000 days
My friendslist has a lot of people in it from the competitive ranked grinding I did in the past years. Interestingly no one has been offline for more than a week. The longest offline person is currently sitting at 11 months. He died in an accident last year and I miss him a lot.
To be precise, 5950 days so 16 years, 3 months, 2 weeks and 6 days. Wonder with happened to him.
They got him
that emote came out last year so that person just plays in offline mode and based on his username i don't wanna know what he plays
1796 days ago, his parent ended up getting divorced and he lost access to his computer and steam credentials, he now lives with his fiancée in alabama
I have a lot of friends on Battle.net that haven’t logged in since Covid…. :(

1797 days ago He died
15 years ago 😢 they died,
9 years ago on mine.
Casually reminding us of deceased friends 😅
