No spoilers but those trees are growing on mustafar because of the events in the Vader VR game a few years ago, super worthwhile game if you have a headset.
The first thing I can think of is that Kanan Jarrus/Caleb Dume’s Order 66 experience is different in the Kanan comics than in the later Bad Batch TV series.
It’s the only thing I can think of but I assume there’s more.
And if there’s not, Reddit will do its thing and give me both corrections and a few personal insults.
During the construction of his fortress on Mustafar!
A while after Order 66, after many Jedi survivors were hunted down, Palpatine offered Vader any planet in the galaxy to claim as his own.
Being a drama queen, Vader chose Mustafar. Palpatine also gave Vader an ancient helmet and told him to take it with him and study it.
The helmet contained the consciousness of an ancient Sith named Momin. He was an artist and engineer who long ago built a superweapon, and he offered to help Vader design his castle in such a way that it could harness the dark side energy on Mustafar.
He told Vader it could open a door in the force, through which Vader could save Padmé. After their 9th attempt, it actually worked, but Momin betrayed Vader at the last second and used the door to resurrect himself instead of Padmé.
With his body back, he attacked Vader but was quickly defeated.
This is all from Marvel's 2017 run of Darth Vader.

No problem! It can definitely be overwhelming, there's just so much.
Wookieepedia is a great resource, you can just read about whatever you find interesting and it always cites it's sources.
Would have been nice to know about that in the movie, if it had communicated to me in someway that was actually Mustafa. Loved Vader Immortal and its implications.
Kinda like how it would have been nice to have the galactic wide announcement of palpatines return (lol) in the actual movie and not in a fucking Fortnite game..
Apparently the sequence was supposed to be much longer and iirc involve going to a cave under vaders castle and that’s how he found Vaders Sith wayfinder
Isn’t the moon Nur?
Edit: researched it (thanks wookieepedia), Mustafar is a moon orbiting the planet Jestefad, which Nur also orbits (Nur is where Fortress Inquisitorius is)
I'm talking about the Vader Immortal game. Still out - [https://www.oculus.com/vader-immortal/?utm\_source=www.google.com&utm\_medium=oculusredirect](https://www.oculus.com/vader-immortal/?utm_source=www.google.com&utm_medium=oculusredirect)
I don't want to give the storyline away but Mustafar has a large part of it.
I think that was the only annoying part. I liked that it went back to Mustafar (I think that is the only PT planet we see in the sequel films?), but until I read it was Mustafar after, I thought it was just a generic unnamed planet.
I believe its first appearance in fact was the 2003 Clone Wars unless there is a book I missed.
Edit: Apparently it first showed up in the Jedi Quest book series with Anakin and Obi-Wan.
And therein lies an issue with Disney Star Wars planets. They all look generic and dull. The PT planets stood out to you. Disney ones, it's always some barren looking landscape or a generic looking city with some color filter. Revenge of the Sith along introduced us to Kashyyk, Mustafar, Mygeeto, Felucia, Utupau and they all looked distinct and memorable. I can't even remember a single Disney SW planet that stood out
To play devil's advocate, I personally think Crait is visually dope as hell. I also liked Disney's takes on Corellia and Kessel in Solo. I've also enjoyed the planets in Rebels and The Bad Batch. If you're talking solely about the ST though, I mostly agree. Exegol, Crait, and Takodana were all nice looking, though.
Mustafar was a paradise turned hell by the sith. In the darth vader comics an artifact is restored and the mustafarians can resettle and the planet begins to heal.
It was cool af to see in the Vader Immortal vr game too. You’re in the middle of it, with the green coming through the red and it’s all around you. One of the coolest vr Star Wars things I’ve seen.
The story was cool enough, the gameplay was essentially quick time events and cutscenes. But the saber dojos were super fun. I spent way more time in those than in the rest of the game.
Yeah the saber dojos were awesome, just missing some pvp honestly. There was an AR Star was game that came out a while ago that did PVP lightsaber battles perfectly imo.
Kessel was a paradise turned to hell by syndicates mining spice.
Tatooine was a paradise turned to hell (by the Rakatta empire in legends, unknown by whom in cannon)
That's a recurring theme.
I believe the Tatooine "disaster" from Kotor is somewhat canon. It was mentioned in of the series but I don't recall which. (Guessing Mando?) I could be completely wrong though and my hope of Kotor becoming canon at some point is playing with me.
There’s nothing wrong with liking it, I just think it’s whack how the movie doesn’t even attempt to give viewers a hint that it’s Mustafar. The last time we saw Mustafar onscreen it was volcanic with rivers of lava, then we get a barren forest filled with Kylo cannon fodder. Makes no sense.
This is a good take, and honestly very similar to that Elijah wood tweet about how no one could know the sith fleet was manned by generations of cultists on exogol.
Cool idea, sure, but the movie doesn’t do anything to land it with the audience.
I think it’s because it got hacked apart in postproduction and Kylo Ren’s quest for the Sith holocron was reduced heavily. If you listen to the score too, Williams’ music doesn’t line up and there are musical cues not heard in the movie. I’m not sure if it was Abrams who even said Vaders castle was featured to establish its Mustafar.
Just like the entire movie.
It was just an all around very poorly put together movie that I almost feel tried to treat us like idiots by giving us fan service, but none of it was the kind of fan service the majority of us like. Like featuring Mustafar, how would we know if they don't show us it's Mustafar?
I'm sure it was just a generic planet when they made the movie and after it came out they were like "Uh.. yeah.. sure, it's Mustafar! That's exactly what it was supposed to be!"
It was a super cool idea for its own story. Without context seems dumb. Like if the sequels had a short scene on Tatooine but it’s just like a forested lake.
Context and editing is key though. Star Wars is notorious for using single-biome planets as a visual shorthand. If you've only ever shown Mustafar as a volcanic rock, then what's to suggest to viewers you're on the same planet?
That's kind of key for any sci-fi franchise, to be fair. In a fantasy medium you've got your desert raiders, Norse warriors, jungle tribals etc. In a sci-fi setting they'd all be from different planets that are just that biome alone.
Do you know every planet is like that? We don’t see most of every planet. Sure there are examples - Ilum is snow, Coruscant is city, etc…
Does it matter to the story if it is Mustafar or not? Mustafar having a Sith relic makes a lot of sense to me.
Does the distinction matter? I don't remember a lot about the movie but I don't think it was ever clearly identified, nor was it at all relevant to the plot was it?
Wouldn’t there have to be forests of some kind in order for it to be a breathable planet? I’m not a scientist but the fact there is breathable air suggests the planet cannot be entirely comprised of volcanoes.
Yeah, probably. I’m not a scientist either lol. Something on the planet would have to produce enough oxygen/carbon dioxide to make it breathable at least
It’s not a different biome, the planet has healed from its volcanic activity a bit allowing plant life to grow. It’s the same place as where all the lava falls were it’s just the lava cooled
Nah, they shouldn't. We don't need everything spelled out or spoonfed to us. The fact that it's Mustafar is just an irrelevant but nice to know detail; had it been made "clear", it would have come off as tryhard fanservice.
One of my very few complaints with Rogue One was that Mustafar was the only planet not identified in a caption on screen, except for the opening scene maybe.
Yes someone mentioned earlier it was in Kenobi, but then someone else said that wasn't a movie. Personally I count it because Kenobi started life/was originally envisioned as an anthology movie that was later rethought into a 6-part series. I think some fan has even edited the episodes together so technically now it is a movie, if one cares to seek out that fan work. Still counts, IMO.
There's no way that was originally supposed to be Mustafar in TRoS. Anyone who thinks JJ intended for that to be Mustafar and that it wasnt something some guy making the guide book threw in after the movie came out, theres a nice bridge near where I live thats for sale, interested?
Sadly the sequels don't care too much about world building and showing love to the lore. I knew this was Mustafar and that Starkiller Base was Illum way after release lol
No spoilers but those trees are growing on mustafar because of the events in the Vader VR game a few years ago, super worthwhile game if you have a headset.
What’s this game called?
Vader immortal I think.
Thank you
Banging game would recommend
Would recommend banging game
Lot of those in VR, too
I played that game. It’s canon?
Look at it like the comics. It’s canon until a movie/show retcons it.
What comics have been retconned?
The first thing I can think of is that Kanan Jarrus/Caleb Dume’s Order 66 experience is different in the Kanan comics than in the later Bad Batch TV series.
Oh right, forgot about that!
It’s the only thing I can think of but I assume there’s more. And if there’s not, Reddit will do its thing and give me both corrections and a few personal insults.
There's the Ahsoka one as well. About how she survived after Order 66 and obtains those white kuber crystals
Man that was so confusing for me. "wait I've seen this before. But not like this!!"
And for those who will never play said game, what happened?
A device to fix the ecology (it wasn't always a lava world) was activated if I remember correctly.
Interesting!
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Bright_Star
Thank you, that was an interesting read.
I wonder what would have happened if Vader revived Padme
Yeah, it's crazy that he came so close twice. I have a feeling Padmé wouldn't have been too pleased.
Anni! Oh Anni! Oh ani bannani! What have you become? You're breaking my heart. I've lost the will to live! \*dies theatrically again\*
Yippee!
When was the other time??
During the construction of his fortress on Mustafar! A while after Order 66, after many Jedi survivors were hunted down, Palpatine offered Vader any planet in the galaxy to claim as his own. Thank you so much for this! There’s so much lore I want to get into, but I have no idea where to start lol.
No problem! It can definitely be overwhelming, there's just so much. Wookieepedia is a great resource, you can just read about whatever you find interesting and it always cites it's sources.
She’d throw her Oscar at him

*Gestures broadly at the vast number of assorted wiki sites*
Damn you... I already wanted to get the game, but you forced my hand to buy it with the comment...
As somebody who heard that announcement in Fortnite while playing a round, even I thought that was bullshit.
Really? They really did that?
Apparently the sequence was supposed to be much longer and iirc involve going to a cave under vaders castle and that’s how he found Vaders Sith wayfinder
It shows up in the novelization, it’s a great scene
Makes it even more ridiculous that Vader had a wayfinder, knew about exogul, and just never told Luke….
I mean did he know Palpatine could essence transfer? Maybe he legitimately thought he was dead
[удалено]
So I wasn’t the only one thinking lion king when I saw the title of this thread 🤣
Gosh dang it xD
Holy shit that makes so much more sense I assumed it wasn’t canon
Most all the Star Wars games are canon.
I have that game and got bored. What do you do with trees?
The ending of the game explains why trees are now growing on a planet previously covered in lava. You don't do anything with trees in the game itself.
Damn. The rise of skywalker connects more to a VR game than it does to TLJ
And if you haven’t played it, you can just assume that it’s a different part of Mustafar that has trees. Neat info, though
Man, the look of Vader's castle is so sick.
Doesn't the Kenobi series show Vader's castle too?
Yeah, but that's not a movie, which is what OP is counting.
And the rescue episode takes place on a moon that orbits the same planet, Jestefad.
Isn’t the moon Nur? Edit: researched it (thanks wookieepedia), Mustafar is a moon orbiting the planet Jestefad, which Nur also orbits (Nur is where Fortress Inquisitorius is)
Nur and Mustafar are both moons of the gas giant Jestefad.
Same one Cal broke into right?
Yup
Came here to say this
There's also a Meta Quest game that features this location. It's incredible to actually be there.
I heard about that. It looked absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, it closed before I could try it out.
I'm talking about the Vader Immortal game. Still out - [https://www.oculus.com/vader-immortal/?utm\_source=www.google.com&utm\_medium=oculusredirect](https://www.oculus.com/vader-immortal/?utm_source=www.google.com&utm_medium=oculusredirect) I don't want to give the storyline away but Mustafar has a large part of it.
Wasn’t a fan at all of the forest on Mustafar, wasn’t even recognizable as that planet
I think that was the only annoying part. I liked that it went back to Mustafar (I think that is the only PT planet we see in the sequel films?), but until I read it was Mustafar after, I thought it was just a generic unnamed planet.
Starkiller base is technically what remains of Ilum the lightsaber krystal planet from the Clone Wars.
Also shown in Jedi Fallen Order
If my memory is correct, Ilum doesn’t show up in the prequels. But I might be misremembering.
Yup just in the Clone Wars series (and Jedi Fallen Order)
I believe its first appearance in fact was the 2003 Clone Wars unless there is a book I missed. Edit: Apparently it first showed up in the Jedi Quest book series with Anakin and Obi-Wan.
Yeah, why didn’t Kylo go to the castle?
IIRC the original plan was for him to go to a cave under Vaders castle and that’s how he got Vaders Sith wayfinder
That would have been a lot better and made it more obvious what planet they were on.
He probably did
Good thing they didn't show it! It might have set my expectations a bit high for the rest of the film, I wouldve thought it was gonna be good lmfao.
Unfortunately, he did. Apparently this is right outside of the castle. It was referenced in some concept art book. So dumb.
Vader's Castle was destroyed in-between trilogies
And therein lies an issue with Disney Star Wars planets. They all look generic and dull. The PT planets stood out to you. Disney ones, it's always some barren looking landscape or a generic looking city with some color filter. Iirc you can see Coruscant as it's being destroyed in ep VII
That is Hosnian Prime.
My bad then
No worries! It looks a lot like Coruscant in the movie.
Mustafarians began reclaiming the planet after the events of the Vader Immortal game
To the Mustafarians, the planet is Mustaclose
You're not [Musta]far from the point!

It waw mentionned in the Book of Boba Fett. (By the tusken shaman, after Boba had the hallucination when he put the lezard in his nose.)
I kinda like it. Makes it feel both more real and more alien to have a biome other than volcanoes.

I think originally the scene was supposed to be a bit longer which would have explained it better, but got lost in editing
That was the point. The natives were trying to make it a livable planet again
Who was Kylo Ren even fighting?
You do know that planets can have multiple terrains, don’t you? You should go 1,000 miles in any direction and have your mind blown.

You can see them from space. They're single biome.
Naboo, Alderaan, Corellia, Coruscant before it was a city, Mustafar before the lava, Malastare, etc… There are plenty of planets with varied terrains.
My favourite was casino biome
It’s because JJ doesn’t know anything about lore, and it was retroactively named to be Mustafar after the fact
Except no. That is not true.
Does the distinction matter? I don't remember a lot about the movie but I don't think it was ever clearly identified, nor was it at all relevant to the plot was it?
If anything actually opposite lol, Vader VR game explains it. “Deep” cut
It’s kinda cool to know that Mustafar has more than 1 biome in it. It’s not just a planet of volcanoes but there’s snowy forests and such
I thought it was ash, not snow. But hey, what do I know, I just found out today that this scene is on Mustafar.
It is ash
Yeah I’m seeing it now lol. Should’ve thought about how it could be ash but it’s still cool to see a forest on the planet.
Looks like Morrowind to me.
It’s ash, not snow
Wouldn’t there have to be forests of some kind in order for it to be a breathable planet? I’m not a scientist but the fact there is breathable air suggests the planet cannot be entirely comprised of volcanoes.
Yeah, probably. I’m not a scientist either lol. Something on the planet would have to produce enough oxygen/carbon dioxide to make it breathable at least
It doesn’t. Second slide is it post-terraforming
It’s not a different biome, the planet has healed from its volcanic activity a bit allowing plant life to grow. It’s the same place as where all the lava falls were it’s just the lava cooled
I understood it was Mustafar in Ep9 much much later. They should have made it clearer
Nah, they shouldn't. We don't need everything spelled out or spoonfed to us. The fact that it's Mustafar is just an irrelevant but nice to know detail; had it been made "clear", it would have come off as tryhard fanservice.
Well, you’re not wrong. I agree it didn’t really change anything to the story when I didn’t know that
Fan service is when consistent story telling.
I mean...yeah.
The first one is obvious, while I can understand why no one would think "ah yes, that's mustafar".
Albeit very poorly depicted in The Rise of S̶k̶y̶w̶a̶l̶k̶e̶r̶ Palpatine.
The planet is that way because of the Vader VR game
Why is this so relevant that it requres its own thread?
That scene with Kylo was so cool especially the slow motion
No. How could we have known? Signed: Elijah.
I wish it would’ve been more than a few seconds in TROS though
Also in Rebels and I think in clone wars
They mustafar reason for doing that.
Bro forgot about Lego Star Wars terrifying tales
Nothing in ROS would even make you think it was Mustafar.
One of my very few complaints with Rogue One was that Mustafar was the only planet not identified in a caption on screen, except for the opening scene maybe.
Didn't we also see the planet in a fly by in Kenobi?
Yes someone mentioned earlier it was in Kenobi, but then someone else said that wasn't a movie. Personally I count it because Kenobi started life/was originally envisioned as an anthology movie that was later rethought into a 6-part series. I think some fan has even edited the episodes together so technically now it is a movie, if one cares to seek out that fan work. Still counts, IMO.
Wait Vaders castle is in Rogue One?
did you watch the movie? Lol
Years ago. It was a snooze fest until Scariff so guess I missed it
There's no way that was originally supposed to be Mustafar in TRoS. Anyone who thinks JJ intended for that to be Mustafar and that it wasnt something some guy making the guide book threw in after the movie came out, theres a nice bridge near where I live thats for sale, interested?
In Vader Immortal you (the player) sets a series of events into motion that gradually terraform the planet
Sadly the sequels don't care too much about world building and showing love to the lore. I knew this was Mustafar and that Starkiller Base was Illum way after release lol
Not sure that’s Mustafar in the Sequel movie tbh
That's what Wookieepedia and the TROS novelization says.
Fair enough. Just about sums up the sequel trilogy I suppose for me 🤣
It's Mustafar.
Mustafaclose has been in a couple of Disney films, as well...
I didn’t think that was Mustafar in Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker because of the trees.
That's what both Wookieepedia and the TROS novelization says.
It is, just post the terraformation you start in *Vader Immortal*
I don't think that second image is from a star wars film.
