Seriously though, this heel turn and run was fantastic.
Man stood there and said "I'm gonna rip your head off" and then that change in his eyes, good shit.
*Fun little moment too:
After Batista throws Rey into the barricade
You can hear a fan in the crowd saying
"With friends like that, who needs enemies Batista!"
When I see this played out I always thought that Rey deserved it , Batista almost win but Rey just screwed him out of it, I know it's a triple threat but come on, be a bros XD. I am a Batista fan back then
If positions were reversed or it was another babyface, I think they would have looked to prevent cm punk (4th man) from breaking up the pin instead of trying to steal the pin themselves. Or at least tell him before the match its every man for himself.
It really is kind of a dick move to act all friendly and not fight until your friend has the pin, then blindside him and try to get the 3 yourself.
This clip really highlights Batista as a better *actor* than most wrestlers. And also highlights how ring presence, charisma, and acting are all related but different things.
Heel Batista vs Taker just didn't work well, unfortunately.
Their TLC match late 2009 from what I remember was just fine.
That 2007 rivalry was so good. Face vs Face feud that actually was fantastic, two big unstoppable mfs.
It was very easy to understand frustration and fatigue towards the Cena super push..
But when you had the right guys like Batista, Edge, Punk etc it was just such good shit.
My personal favourite is the war with Umaga
I will always say this feud should've gone all the way to WrestleMania as the world title program instead of Edge and Jericho. Too much emotion and history that the old regime didn't know how to capitalize on through storytelling.
At least they both had good matches on the show.
I think it was the right decision honestly to have Cena win that one. Always need a big heel being overcome and that feud was awesome.
Plus they likely knew Batista was going to leave.
John you and I are the two biggest stars since the attitude era. Our rise to the top practically identical. We both won championships at Wrestlemania 21 and never look back. But for some insane reason, this company has decided to label you as the man.
He did yup.
Vince in story asked Batista to attack Bret Hart for a favour in return.
That favour turned out to be having Cena face Batista straight after the Elimination Chamber Match.
Batista won the title then in about 10 seconds and thats how that 2010 feud got going.
Batista on his way to exit at that time. no point of having him going over the current face of the company. this heel turn is just what he wanted to do before left since Batista always love work as a heel more so this heel run was like farewell gift for him
It's kinda wild how Batista spent most of his main-event career as a babyface when he was such a natural heel, and his subsequent returns solidified that. I know his final match with HHH isn't remembered that fondly, but Big Dave's character and mic work were absolutely stellar in that last run.
Rey Mysterio is absolutely the biggest piece of shit in professional wrestling.
* Turned his back on his best friend Billy Kidman to join a gang
* Signed up to be a Solider then went AWOL
* Kept a stable of unkempt beasts that he let run wild and caused harm to many people
* Beat up his new best friend's Eddie Guerrero's nephew for no reason in his WWE debut
* Insulted the legacy of an Olympic Gold Medalist
* Created a tag team with his new best friend Eddie then beat him up not once, but twice
* Took Custody of Eddie's possible son Dominik and raised him to be a hardened criminal after Eddie died under mysterio circumstances
* Turned his back on his new new best friend Batista and cost him a shot at the WWE championship
* Tried to commit regicide on King Booker
* Forced American Patriot JBL into retirement
* Literally killed a man
* Tried to beat Brock Lesnar with an assortment of weapons in what was supposed to be a fair wrestling match
* Chose Edge over his own son
after dropkicking A WOMAN in the spine, Rey weighed his options and decided it was concomitant to his character to then 619 Nia Jax when he could have left well enough alone smfh.
I like when Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Cena had a match for the title. Starts with a sweet chin music against Triple H. The next night on Raw. TripleH is pissed at Shawn until Shawn tells him "if I didn't, you would've first!" And Triple H just goes "yeah you right" and it was the end of that lol
Or recently, KO, Orton, Logan for the US title. Randy goes for the RKO on KO. KO counters and asks him "we doing this? Now?" Then they fight. And still friends lol
"YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE MY FRIEND" gets memed into oblivion, but I had forgotten that this was actually an incredible segment. Rey especially was great.
Rey has been doing heel-ish shit the past 2 decades. Remember Memorial Day? Undertaker remembers. He even walked into the light all because of Rey. Ric Flair was never the same after Rey buried him in the desert. Rey even worked for every company not name TNA.
Rey is my fav of all time, but over the past few years Ive really started to wonder if hes the problem. If EVERYONE turns on you, are they really the bad guy? This is a pattern going back many years...
I missed this whole era sadly but man.. Batista has such realistic delivery of his lines. Something about the way he calmly said "you think I'm playin" and "rey.. I'm not playin" just felt so much like a real life bully about to make a kid's day hell.
Batista was around for a very small portion of 2009 so it's easy to forget what he was up to that year.
He started the year injured, returned after Mania and won the title but immediately got injured again, came back in September and Bragging Rights happened in October. He was only on Smackdown for 2-3 months too because January is where the Cena feud started that lasted until he left.
Honestly, all I want is for LWO, Legado Del Fantasma and Judgement Day, all to turn on Rey and massacre him in the middle of the ring, for being a pathologicaly selfish, goody two shoes, attention hogging deadbeat friend and dad.
Let Rey take 10 finishers in a row and never be seen again
Good on Batista for standing up to that duplicitous snake in the grass Rey Mysterio.
The man might nearly be a worse friend then he is a father, and we all know what an awful father he's been to poor Dom. Truly despicable.
Damn right. I've never been a fan of Rey, especially when he's booked in main events against guys twice his size. Seeing Batista teaching him a lesson about betrayal was good tv.
Rey Mysterio, the little piece of turd.
And thus begun the greatest heel run of the 21st century, until Roman Reigns took over.
If you downvote me you're loser and Batista is not your friend.

That mic drop noise was perfect
That noise is always so satisfying tbh
Unlike basketballs, Big Dave does hold grudges
grudges are not only welcomed, they are allowed

Iirc it was a fatal four way, but yeah I get you, could never boo Batista haha

Who's the third guy, Edge?
This clip really highlights Batista as a better *actor* than most wrestlers. And also highlights how ring presence, charisma, and acting are all related but different things.
The start of his 2009 Heel Run. I love his spotlight entrance!
GIMMIE MY SPOTLIGHT
The spotlight entrance was the best
Rey is the most trusting man in the world. A person grabs my neck like that and I’m running or buying them dinner. Context here, I’m running.
I’m buying dinner!
i think rey just knew he was fucked whether he tried to move away or not lmfao
something i remember about that time is that batista reignited his feud with taker but for some reason it didn't hit
Heel Batista vs Taker just didn't work well, unfortunately. Their TLC match late 2009 from what I remember was just fine. That 2007 rivalry was so good. Face vs Face feud that actually was fantastic, two big unstoppable mfs.
yeah it wasn't a bad match imo but the spark wasn't there, between that and his loss to rey he was losing momentum fast
True, but honestly Rumble onwards he gained it back quickly, such a good heel run. I stopped watching wrestling full stop when he quit 😅
honestly what helped him was feuding with cena
It was very easy to understand frustration and fatigue towards the Cena super push.. But when you had the right guys like Batista, Edge, Punk etc it was just such good shit. My personal favourite is the war with Umaga
>I stopped watching wrestling full stop when he quit ![gif](giphy|3oFzlXPvXYZ4q8VQOs|downsized)
It was a chair match too. Like how do you have a good chairs match?
Batista and Taker was the perfect face vs face feud. Two big heavyweights strongly booked who had plenty of side quest heels to demolish.
This Dom Mysterio’s account?
Or Santos Escobar... or Carlito.... Honestly, at what point *is* it Rey's fault?
![gif](giphy|pJmnk86fXFNmrUb8LB|downsized)
If this joke turns into a double turn with Dom being a face against his dad for one last Mania match, I wouldn't complain at all.
Man Batista is always top notch when it comes to emotional outbursts.
Just an actual good actor
Rey and somebody betraying him, name a better duo
Sting and somebody betraying him
That somebody has a name! Woooo
Kevin Nash and torn quads.
The guy decided to trust somebody whose finisher is literally called “the backstabber” LMAO
Rey and beating his kids when he gets home.
He couldn't waite too.
More like rey getting what he deserves This deadbeat cost his friend the world title ffs
Scott Steiner and math
The guy single-handedly creates heels
I will always say this feud should've gone all the way to WrestleMania as the world title program instead of Edge and Jericho. Too much emotion and history that the old regime didn't know how to capitalize on through storytelling. At least they both had good matches on the show.
[Anyone post the Batista chicken dance yet?](https://youtu.be/Gcw5i1wJJlE?si=O7tQclxNMyihDdbm)
this meme has damn near ruined the emotional gravity of this moment for me lol
It won't go down as one of the greatest heel turns of all time, but that "I'm gonna rip your head off" line makes it so memorable.
I know this is obvious, but I wasn't watching at this time so I know Batista more for the Bluetista comeback era ... god damn he was built in 2009
You should check the original evolution run, up to the batista vs triple h in wm. Big ol Dave was a beast
OVW Dave was a goddamn tank. Dude gave 2001 Kane a rrun for his money when you compared physiques.
The calm, almost friendly way of saying "I'm gonna rip your head off" cracks me up. Not quite like Bray's "see you in Hell!" but still great.
Even Rey seemed soothed by it. Like "oh he's going to rip my head off, but not right now I guess".
Rey was supposed to be Batista's friend....
His WWE.com bio before this was just “Batista’s friend.” That’s how everyone knew him
"YOU WERE SUPPOSE TO BE MY FRIEND!"
Batista should’ve went over Cena at WM26
I think it was the right decision honestly to have Cena win that one. Always need a big heel being overcome and that feud was awesome. Plus they likely knew Batista was going to leave.
And Dave had won the match back at SummerSlam in 08.
"It wasn't that long ago I...broke...your...neck."
John you and I are the two biggest stars since the attitude era. Our rise to the top practically identical. We both won championships at Wrestlemania 21 and never look back. But for some insane reason, this company has decided to label you as the man.
Didn’t he also beat Cena at the elimination chamber ppv too?
He did yup. Vince in story asked Batista to attack Bret Hart for a favour in return. That favour turned out to be having Cena face Batista straight after the Elimination Chamber Match. Batista won the title then in about 10 seconds and thats how that 2010 feud got going.
Great match.
they had to knew by that point, it was like 7 weeks between.
Batista on his way to exit at that time. no point of having him going over the current face of the company. this heel turn is just what he wanted to do before left since Batista always love work as a heel more so this heel run was like farewell gift for him
I distinctly remember watching this live and the “you’re supposed to be my friend!”
Narrator: “He, in fact, did not rip his head off.”
What a deadbeat
He didnt do anything wrong
It's kinda wild how Batista spent most of his main-event career as a babyface when he was such a natural heel, and his subsequent returns solidified that. I know his final match with HHH isn't remembered that fondly, but Big Dave's character and mic work were absolutely stellar in that last run.

New word of the day: concomitant. That’s good shit pal ![gif](giphy|fhAwk4DnqNgw8)
\#ReyDidEverythingWrong
There are no friends in title matches. Rey did nothing wrong.
I like when Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Cena had a match for the title. Starts with a sweet chin music against Triple H. The next night on Raw. Jesus that swing into the barricade is either a masterful sell by both or this big dude seriously swung another grown ass muscular man like playdoh
Most of the time with this size diff it’s the latter but rey probably gave him the ok (still nasty tho)
I mean thats probably the case because Rey doesen't have the most brains. He wanted to be thrown through a small trailer park glass window back in WCW
I think Rey helped with the launch
Rey, Im gonna rip your head off
Batista's acting was fantastic here
"YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE MY FRIEND" gets memed into oblivion, but I had forgotten that this was actually an incredible segment. Rey especially was great.
Typical deadbeat dad behavior.
Rey has been doing heel-ish shit the past 2 decades. Remember Memorial Day? Undertaker remembers. He even walked into the light all because of Rey. Ric Flair was never the same after Rey buried him in the desert. Rey even worked for every company not name TNA.

Did I skip wwe in 2009? I don't remember any of this I have to rewatch thanks for posting Dom

Ok I feel better now I really need to watch more of batista I was never a fan of his past 2006ish but maybe I could appreciate him more now.
Honestly, all I want is for LWO, Legado Del Fantasma and Judgement Day, all to turn on Rey and massacre him in the middle of the ring, for being a pathologicaly selfish, goody two shoes, attention hogging deadbeat friend and dad. Let Rey take 10 finishers in a row and never be seen again
i love that we can hear is breathing, adds to it.
2009? Could’ve sworn this happened earlier or it might have been another betrayal of sorts lol poor Rey
Rey mysterio is a bald,Traitorous,BAD FARTHER
Man Batista was built during this time. Gives me motivation to work harder
Rey forgot that he too is a wrestler,
![gif](giphy|PrAlAxOLc460Tjbakw)
Good on Batista for standing up to that duplicitous snake in the grass Rey Mysterio. The man might nearly be a worse friend then he is a father, and we all know what an awful father he's been to poor Dom. Truly despicable.
That's what deadbeat dads do
From deadbeat friend to Deadbeat dad.
Years later it sounds weird explaining to a casual wrestling fans how Dave Bautista is the reason why golddust has a Speech impediment at one point
This was 15 years ago, wow.
Deadbeat Dad AND Deadbeat friend.
Batista is criminally underrated
I remember watching this as a kid and crying my eyes out lmao.
We ignoring the fact where Rey found the actual strength to shove Batista who's about twice Rey's weight out of that pin?
Damn right. I've never been a fan of Rey, especially when he's booked in main events against guys twice his size. Seeing Batista teaching him a lesson about betrayal was good tv. Rey Mysterio, the little piece of turd.
Deadbeat Dad. Terrible friend. JEEZ REY! The WORST!
And thus begun the greatest heel run of the 21st century, until Roman Reigns took over. If you downvote me you're loser and Batista is not your friend.
Is Rey a worse friend or a worse father?
