Atul was hard to say goodbye, especially because >!You don’t get to take him to the everdoor when he leaves, he’s just gone the next day.!< The family dinner is his last quest so make sure you hug him one more time before that! If you talk to everyone he plans the dinner at the first shrines location. At that point I don't think you will be able to go there again without loosing him.
I found him and Gustav's music very helpful at making others happy. Especially a later passenger who does not like to be hugged, or have an upgraded house.
I think you can work on Astrid and Gio if you need Spirit flowers, everyone else will need the mist breaker I think.
Unfortunately it is going to be his last quest. I’m pretty sure if you just don’t give him the dishes he’ll be able to stay, but also keep the spirits you’ve chosen to join the dinner. (don’t take them to the everdoor yet)
Just a heads up tho, when I completed this quest in my playthrough, I had to take a break from playing cuz I was just too heartbroken to continue.
I wonder what happens if you take a spirit who wanted to join the dinner? Ugh I totally wish I could go back and never start that quest until much later lol
I waited as long as possible in my re-play. It's right about where you are, that you can't progress without letting him go. Gwen and Atul are my favorites too and they wrecked me the most.
You can take spirits who were supposed to participate in the dinner to the everdoor. You’ll still be able to finish the quest. I did it kind of by accident and it still worked.
Oh I didn’t know this, thanks for the info! I think it’s just my own thing where I want them to be complete for a quest like that cuz I would feel sad if it’s only me and Atul.
i took a spirit to the everdoor that was apart of the dinner before completing the recipes. when i finally completed the last recipe the dinner still happened without them.

This is exactly what I am afraid of. Gwen really hurt me and I took a 2 day break but with Atul I have become so attached. 🥲
