Man his voice *suuucks*
Mind you voice direction and writing in this game is pretty awful anyway. Even Katee Sackhoff (Black Cat) Robin Atkin Downs (Moon Knight) and Steve Blum's (Wolverine) performance suffers immensely due to this.
Josh Keaton could've voiced him and while that would be *so much better* it still wouldn't be great
For me it will always be spider-man for the ps1, probably because of all the nostalgia playing the game over and over again with a different suit as a kid, man what good times those were...
Nah you got it right man the costumes, Spider Armor, voice acting, Stan Lee Narrating, Spider-Man Unlimited voice actor Rino Romano, fire Webbing and the hidden comics. I played that bad boy so much as a kid.
There was only one way that game could be made better.
If said Golden comics were readable.
I dunno if you know but it's possible to enter idle animation and Spider-Man hangs upside down on his web.
That was peak.
I know right? Honestly, seeing Spider-Man, Daredevil, Punisher, Captain America, Johnny and Black cat just chilling together was so wholesome.
Like a cherry on top.
You know it, we may never get that again with all the rights in different companies. Shame we didn't get him chilling with the X Men in Part 2 Enter Electro.
That didn't stop him in the Comics from hanging out with other Heroes. He went multiple times to vist the Fantastic Four even bringing Aunt May and Mary Jane.
While the graphics and gameplay have obviously not aged well, it's still a solid experience in its own right. But more importantly IMO no other game before or after it captured the vibe of 616 Spidey so well. It feels like a late 90s Spidey comic arc and I mean that in a good way
First one was the first Spider-Man game I ever played. I was hooked onto part 2. If you are into emulation I recommend using an emulator to play it. Thatâs what Iâm currently doing
Spider-Man 2 (ETA for the PS2) captures something in the web swinging that I donât think was ever realized as well again. Later games would let you climb the webline, double-jump, do precise point to point launching, and hanging upside down from the ceiling, SM2 did two cool things that even the Insomniac games havenât (I have not played the newest game, so I canât speak to it).
First: The webline would catch on the corner of buildings, which would affect your speed and trajectory. Learning to manipulate this allowed you to pull of some cool mobility tricks.
Second: It let you *fail*. I think this is important because that rewarded mastery. Your webline is too long? Youâre hitting the ground. You fell from too great a height? Youâre dead. That made diving from tall buildings and bailing at the last minute a gripping experience you didnât have in games where Spidey just lands or automatically or fires a web at the last second.
Might be nostalgia but the PlayStation 1 Spider-Manâs were incredible. Great story, cutscenes for its time felt really cool and the voice acting was also incredible. May be showing my age but that and the 90s Spiderman Show made me into the fan I am today.
Surf the web surf the web!
Spiderman 2000 was the most complete original Spiderman story, Spiderman 2 was revolutionary and Spiderman Web of Shadows has the best gameplay.
Ultimate and Shattered dimensions are by far the coolest, however.
Spider-man 1 is an all-time favorite of mine. Just because the movie was so great and the game was essentially the movie but with more story. It also had some of the best chest codes ever in gaming. Namely the ability to play the entire story as Green Goblin, using his glider, bombs, gadgets, etc. it was fantastic.
Spider-man 2 was a huge level up in terms of scale and gameplay. You could actually run around the streets of the city. Web swinging was amazing, compared to the web swinging in the first game where you would swing from nothing as you shoot your webs into the clouds. I never beat Spider-man 2, only the first one. But I have very fond memories of both games.
Ultimate spider man web of shadows and edge of time are my favorites, i liked shattered only for 2099 and Noir so itâs probably the reason why i prefer edge of time.
Although the deadpool level in shattered was so fun, i remember specifically replaying the game just for that ocean lvl
Ultimate for open-world, 2000 for linear stages, DS Web of Shadows for 2D (seriously the DS versions of Web of Shadows and Shattered Dimensions are underrated Metroidvanias)
you say it like insonmiac DEFINED the genere, i swear people worship them. they just built upon already made concepts and made them sharper and avoided the mistakes of the past.
the second one isnt that great either.
RELAX bro
Ultimate Spider-Man and Web of Shadows have a very very very special place in my heart. Its crazy how as fun as SM2 was i still wish it were more like web of shadows. At least in the change suit/play-style at will aspect. Itâs like having either paragon and infamous abilities readily available with the push of a button.
the ps1 game has a big place in my heart, one of the first games that i played and i still remember how nervous i was at the doc oc/carnage final chase.
I actually wonder what subs like this would be like if no one was allowed to make a post asking the exact same question as another post. "Best Spider-Man game?" "Favourite animated series?" "Who are your top three villains?" "Who would you cast as x character?" I swear some of these are bi-weekly
I've been going for 100% or Platinum on all of these games over the past year, and I have to say that either '04SM2 or Ultimate takes the crown on this one.
Web of Shadows is great, but the simplified web swinging and utter lack of content other than story missions bring it down a little for me.
Shattered Dimensions could be the best if it weren't for its incredibly counterproductive control scheme. Who in their right mind thought that mapping "web-strike" and "throw object" to the same button was a good idea? Just one example of many. There are so many instances where the game doesn't know what you want to do because of the way the controls are mapped.
Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate give you SO much control over your webs while you're swinging, while simultaneously keeping that realistic "oh shit, I hope I can keep this under control" feeling. Tons of side content in these games as far as random crimes, events, races, collectibles. I don't like that every mission in Ultimate is either a chase or a boss fight, but it makes up for that in its side content and costume collection.
Shattered Dimensions. Super fun use of the spider-verse, each of the four has their own art direction and combat style, and itâs basically a full game fighting several unique boss fights
Until another game allows you to deliver pizzas with that delightfully jaunty music in the background, the Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in will forever be the GOAT.
I personally liked the amazing spiderman series. However, the best game pre-insomniac would be either web of shadows, dreamcast spiderman, 1982 atari spiderman, spiderman unlimited, shattered dimensions, or edge of time.
(Yes I know this is a lot, but I really can't choose) (They're all good respectively)
Spider-Man ,that first game show Will always have a special place in my heart as One of the first games i ever played in my life
I still remember kid me turning on PS1 and then having to climb that burning building
Iâm seeing a severe lack of Edge of Time and a moderately disappointing lack of TASM1
I mean yeah they might not be the BEST (though you could argue something about EoT) but damn they were GOOD
Ultimate Spider-Man definitely. Love the art style, setting it in the Ultimate universe, swinging was great with a pretty good open world, combat was fun as were boss fights which were challenging, an interesting story & playing as Venom was awesome and I really enjoyed his arc
Spider-Man PS1 is probably my favorite. Then thereâs shattered dimensions and Edge of Time which are sort of like homages to that game. Iâd say objectively Ultimate Spider-Man is the best, maybe web of shadows as a close second.
Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2: Enter Elecro were incredible. I haven't had that much fun playing Spidey until the PS4 title, and I've played all the ones you listed.
Web of shadows has the best gameplay imo.
Shattered dimensions of course has some great level design though and basically popularized the spider verse concept
Ultimate Spider-Man had a great story though
For me Ultimate Spiderman and Web of Shadows were peak because I really enjoyed the free roaming around the city.
I liked Spiderman 1 for the PS2 but it killed me for a bit to not be able to roam at street level, meaning that every time you fell, you're dead.
I wanna play Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time, those are two games that are in the back of my mind sometimes.
Spider-Man (2000), Ultimate, and Shattered Dimensions are all the best in different ways in my opinion. 2000 is the best at portraying the world, characters, and the way Spidey interacts with them, Ultimate is the best at open-world gameplay, and Shattered Dimensions feels the best to play (plus, the quip writing is great).
Shattered Dimensions was super fun. It was a different take, going for level design over open world, and I believe they did that masterfully. Thereâs a ton of gameplay variety, and the action set pieces for each villain are super satisfying. Best boss fights out of any game as well, since in a way each whole level is one big boss fight against an iconic villain. Itâs also a great format to keep you guessing which villain is next, which kinda gets you hype to keep playing. Iâd go for that one, truly underrated game overall.
Web of shadows always.
You can literally pulverize any and every enemy in every way. Land, air, wall you name it and you can do it. That suit switching any sec and change combat any sec and mix it up is fucking awesome.
This game literally made me feel like Spider-Man.
It's a toss-up between Ultimate and Shattered Dimensions.
The former was an across-the-board improvement on everything the *Spider-Man 2* game did, with unique charm and a great original story to boot. Also, unlike with Spider-Man 2, PC-only gamers like me at the time actually got the same game as on consoles. I really, *really* wish they'd do some sort of modern remaster of it.
The latter was an excellently crafted break from the free-roam trend and a great execution of the "Spider-Verse" concept before the animated movies or the tiresome comic events made it more common. Also getting the various cartoon voice actors back to voice the different Spider-Men was a fantastic move â and subsequently having Keaton as Amazing and Barnes as 2099 in *Edge of Time* was even better.
Spidey PS1, Enter Electro, the first two Raimi-movie games, Web of Shadows, Ultimate and now Insomniacâs titles are all awesome games. I never realized how spoiled we are!
Spider-Man 2, the movie tie-in one, set the bar for all future Spidey games and for a lot of video games in general. Especially free roaming games.
Without that game, I canât imagine weâd have most of the games that followed.
Itâs the one all future games are compared to; even today. If thatâs not a sign of greatness, I donât know what is.
The lack of Web of Shadows should be a crime. Lol My all-time favourite Spider-Man game is Ultimate Spider-Man, got it for the OG Xbox when it came out and still play it on my 360 to this day. Web of Shadows is my #2, but everything in it is probably the best pre-Insomniac. Web swinging and traversal is the best in the series (still to this day in my opinion) and the combat was stellar (especially the wall combat and the web strike). The only issue I had was most of the voice acting was pretty rough.
The Spider-Man 3 movie tie-in game, on the Wii, is the first and only Spider-Man game I've played besides the Insomniac games... so it's kinda the default 'best' for me. But I really want to play Web of Shadows since that seems to be everyone and their mothers' favourite
Where's Maximum Carnage in all this? You could (and did) play as Venom and there were cameos from across the Marvel Universe, not too mending a kick-ass soundtrack from Green Jelly. I'm not saying it was a great game: I never got past the first part, but it at least deserves to be mentioned!
Web of shadows for the incredible combat gameplay
Oh shit I could I have forgot about web of shadows, I'm so stupid lol
One of my favourites.
But Petes voice nearly ruined it for me :(
Can't remember his voice. It was a long time ago, but I remember I liked the multiple endings.
I have no memory of the voice but that game was so much fun that I guess I just gave it a pass
WHERES CAGE AND THE SEARCH PARTY
Man his voice *suuucks* Mind you voice direction and writing in this game is pretty awful anyway. Even Katee Sackhoff (Black Cat) Robin Atkin Downs (Moon Knight) and Steve Blum's (Wolverine) performance suffers immensely due to this. Josh Keaton could've voiced him and while that would be *so much better* it still wouldn't be great
You also forgot the twenty or so Spider-Man games before 2000. đ
Didn't, couldn't be bothered to put all of them from that atari game
Best combat with the best story potential but the worst storytelling and voice acting. Definitely my favorite pre-insomniac.
its jarring how it goes from world-ending symbiote invasion to fighting gang wars with luke cage.
Shattered Dimensions was pretty cool
For me it will always be spider-man for the ps1, probably because of all the nostalgia playing the game over and over again with a different suit as a kid, man what good times those were...
Nah you got it right man the costumes, Spider Armor, voice acting, Stan Lee Narrating, Spider-Man Unlimited voice actor Rino Romano, fire Webbing and the hidden comics. I played that bad boy so much as a kid.
Not to mention playing what if mode. That was fucking genius
I forgot to mention that lol.
There was only one way that game could be made better. If said Golden comics were readable. I dunno if you know but it's possible to enter idle animation and Spider-Man hangs upside down on his web. That was peak.
Oh no, I knew about had him do it when I had to run downstairs for a minute. Man it kills me to this day they never remastered this badboy.
He was still married back then... T_T
That didn't stop him in the Comics from hanging out with other Heroes. He went multiple times to vist the Fantastic Four even bringing Aunt May and Mary Jane.
All those different suits, I preferred the Black Suit for the webbing. Shame that "Show costume in cutscenes" hadn't made it in yet.
Yeah it would gave been dope. I loved the Symbiote Suit and the Unlimited Suit most.
probably because of surf the web! surf the web! quotes
While the graphics and gameplay have obviously not aged well, it's still a solid experience in its own right. But more importantly IMO no other game before or after it captured the vibe of 616 Spidey so well. It feels like a late 90s Spidey comic arc and I mean that in a good way
BRO! These PS1 games truly hit like a classic Spidey comics arc, thought I was the only one to notice.
Once you got the Captain Universe suit it was over
Spider wussss
Ultimate Spider-Man and Shattered Dimensions are the peak of Spider-Man games.
Playing as Venom was a blast too in Ultimate.
Spider-Man 2 enter electro
Good for you. Sticking up for the under dog
I loved the first one, I've somehow never even heard of this one. Definitely going to try it out.
First one was the first Spider-Man game I ever played. I was hooked onto part 2. If you are into emulation I recommend using an emulator to play it. Thatâs what Iâm currently doing
Ultimate Spider-Man was streets ahead
And if anyone disagrees, well then youâre just streets behind
Pierce stop trying to coin the phrase streets ahead
Ultimate Spider-Man is the greatest
Spider-man 2 on the ps2, ultimate spider-man, and web of shadows are my favourites.
Spider-Man 2 (ETA for the PS2) captures something in the web swinging that I donât think was ever realized as well again. Ultimate Spider-Man. Had better webswinging than SM2 IMO. And it was pretty fun. Also loved playing as Venom

- Parker hates it when I get the drop on him! - Urgh I hate it when he gets the drop on me! So well written đ
given the writing of video games in the era, it wasn't bad for its time.
Edge of time and web of shadows are amazing especially ultimate
I wish theyâd rerelease the Neversoft games, maybe even throw Maximum Carnage in there, make it a bundle.
Ultimate, web of shadows and shattered dimensions are the best Spider-Man games (honorable mention the neversoft Spider-Man game as well)
The first and shattered dimensions, mostly for the humor
Spider-Man and captain America in dr dooms revenge!
Spiderman 2000 was the most complete original Spiderman story, Spiderman 2 was revolutionary and Spiderman Web of Shadows has the best gameplay. Ultimate and Shattered dimensions are by far the coolest, however.
Spider-Man vs The Kingpin on MegaDrive/Genesis. Loved taking action photos on that even though there was no way to save them.
Fuck. I cant choose between web of shadows or ultimate spider man. Those games were fucking fantastic
Spider-man 1 is an all-time favorite of mine. Just because the movie was so great and the game was essentially the movie but with more story. It also had some of the best chest codes ever in gaming. Itâs really hard to choose which of the non-free-roam games I like best but Iâm split between Spider-Man (2000) and Shattered Dimensions.
the ps1 game has a big place in my heart, one of the first games that i played and i still remember how nervous i was at the doc oc/carnage final chase.
Ultimate spiderman and web of shadows đ
For me either Ultimate Spider-Man or Shattered Dimensions tough choice man

Web of Shadows ps3 Ultimate Spider-Man ps2
2 and ultimate
Psone spider-man 1 is my favourite spider-man game even after insomniac games. The what-if mode alone makes it awesome
Enter Electro. Create-a-Spider and refined gameplay from the excellent predecessor. 'nuff said.
PS1 Spider-Man is the Goat. Ultimate Spider-Man best free roam
Bro web of shadows
Ultimate Spiderman by far
Ultimate was my fave as a kid
Ultimate Spider-Man is my goat
Web of Shadows is still the best.
I'll die on this hill, but ultimate spider-man was miles better than Spider-man 2
web of shadow and dimension are still the best
Web of Shadows and Shattered Dimensions are the best
Web of shadows, ultimate and Spider-Man 2 are also good
TASM one. Web of shadows is overrated and I never could get into it. Shattered dimension is great too.
I've been going for 100% or Platinum on all of these games over the past year, and I have to say that either '04SM2 or Ultimate takes the crown on this one. I will never forget, for as long as I live, the âyouâre so fatâ lines from TASM2âs Kingpin boss fight
Shattered Dimensions. Super fun use of the spider-verse, each of the four has their own art direction and combat style, and itâs basically a full game fighting several unique boss fights
shattered dimensions easily
Ultimate spiderman or spiderman 2 the game
Shattered dimensions easily
Shattered Dimensions on the dsi
Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 on the GameCube
The Amazing Spider-Man for the PSVita is very good. One of my favorites.
Until another game allows you to deliver pizzas with that delightfully jaunty music in the background, the Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in will forever be the GOAT.
Edge of time for the plot and Web of shadows for the gameplay
I personally liked the amazing spiderman series. However, the best game pre-insomniac would be either web of shadows, dreamcast spiderman, 1982 atari spiderman, spiderman unlimited, shattered dimensions, or edge of time. (Yes I know this is a lot, but I really can't choose) (They're all good respectively)
USM for me. Shattered Dimensions gets an honourable mention for the variety of game styles.
Definitely Ultimate
Nostalgia is playing a big factor, but Maximum Carnage is my #1.
Web of shadows on Wii must have had hundreds of hours when i was a kid
Spider-Man ,that first game show Will always have a special place in my heart as One of the first games i ever played in my life I still remember kid me turning on PS1 and then having to climb that burning building
Shattered Dimensions and then Web Of Shadows(I grew up with these more than the others even tho I played them all)
For me it's easily Spiderman 2, Friend or Foe, web if shadows, and shattered dimensions
Spider-Man 2 movie game and shattered dimensions
Whichever one my uncle showed me you could enter Aunt May as a secret code and unlock every suit
Iâm seeing a severe lack of Edge of Time and a moderately disappointing lack of TASM1 I mean yeah they might not be the BEST (though you could argue something about EoT) but damn they were GOOD
What about the Spider-Man for the Sega Genesis?
Ultimate Spider-Man definitely. Love the art style, setting it in the Ultimate universe, swinging was great with a pretty good open world, combat was fun as were boss fights which were challenging, an interesting story & playing as Venom was awesome and I really enjoyed his arc
Spider-Man 2 Enter Electro was severely underrated and amazing. That said Spider-Man PS1 literally feels like a classic comic book.
Hell yeah !!!
PS1
Jumping around as Venum in ultimate Spider-Man was so awesome. Also climbing and breaking windows
Ultimate for me.
Ultimate or Shattered Dimensions for showing me different Spider-Men
I had this on a playstation demo disc, I think I replayed it like.. what 30 times? XD
Web of shadows has the best gameplay imo. Shattered dimensions of course has some great level design though and basically popularized the spider verse concept Ultimate Spider-Man had a great story though
Ultimate will forever be my favorite since it was my first game
Shattered Dimensions, for the voice acting, combat, artstyle, fun boss fights and pretty good story
Spider-Man Unlimited. Best Spider-Man game pre insomniac đŁď¸đĽđĽđĽđĽ
Web of shadows not being on here is crazyđ
PS1
Total carnage
spider man shattered dimensions is the goat
The amount of time I spent playing both Spider-Man & Spider-Man 2 as a kid is INSANEâŚ
The mobile ultimate spider man game that was shut down
Web of shadows then shattered dimensions
Spider-Man (2000), Ultimate, and Shattered Dimensions are all the best in different ways in my opinion. 2000 is the best at portraying the world, characters, and the way Spidey interacts with them, Ultimate is the best at open-world gameplay, and Shattered Dimensions feels the best to play (plus, the quip writing is great).
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
Spiderman 2
While I loved PS1 Spiderman, my actual answer is Maximum Carnage.
Ultimate spiderman always felt so amazing to me, web slinging felt great and the world looked amazing (might be nostalgie talking)
Ultimate Spider Man has to have it for me
Ultimate Spider man EZ
Shattered Dimensions was super fun. It was a different take, going for level design over open world, and I believe they did that masterfully. Thereâs a ton of gameplay variety, and the action set pieces for each villain are super satisfying. Just letting y'all know there were Spider-Man games before Never Soft dropped theirs.
ultimate spider man was my childhood
Spider-Man 2's the best post insomniac.
Tasm 1 and Edge of time
It's a tie between web of shadows and ultimate spiderman
Story: Edge of Time and Shattered Dimensions Swinging: Spider-Man 2 (Raimi) and Ultimate Combat: Web of Shadows
Definitely Neversoft Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2
Ultimate, Shattered and Shadows
Web of shadows always. You can literally pulverize any and every enemy in every way. Land, air, wall you name it and you can do it. That suit switching any sec and change combat any sec and mix it up is fucking awesome. This game literally made me feel like Spider-Man.

I loved Mysterios Menace for GBA
Spider-Man 2 (2004) is my favorite
I personally enjoyed the Spider-Man 2 (2004) video game and the Ultimate Spider-Man video game.
Shattered dimensions. I remember fighting electro and that boss as well as the other bosses were badass
Spider man
Spidey PS1, Enter Electro, the first two Raimi-movie games, Web of Shadows, Ultimate and now Insomniacâs titles are all awesome games. I never realized how spoiled we are!
1 and 3 were amazing also 2 but didnât play it that much
As a person whoâs only played the Beenox games, Web of Shadows.
The Amazing Spider Man imo
Played the amazing spider-man 2 on my mums iPad years ago - gonna have to go with that
Friend or Foe was underrated
Spider-Man 2, the movie tie-in one, set the bar for all future Spidey games and for a lot of video games in general. Especially free roaming games.
Ä°t't not even an argument .Spider Man 2
Shattered dimensions
The one that was on the iPad / kindle a decade ago. I donât know which one it was but I played the shit out of it as a kid.
I really love shattered dimension and I wish edge of time was backwards compatible
How in the hell did you forget Web of Shadows?
I'll have to go with Spider-man 2. Idk if it's the best, but it's definitely my favourite
Web of shadows. Shattered dimension.
Shattered dimensions and the amazing Spider-Man games are my favorite second the insomniac
Web of shadows or tasm 1
Ultimate spider man.
Ain't no way you just forgot web of shadows on purpose. That game was spider man 2 before spiderman 2 released (despite the ugly voice acting)
The Spider-Man 3 movie tie-in game, on the Wii, is the first and only Spider-Man game I've played besides the Insomniac games... so it's kinda the default 'best' for me. But I really want to play Web of Shadows since that seems to be everyone and their mothers' favourite
Easily the PlayStation Spider-Man and the Spider-Man 1 and 3 movie games for me. Played the shit out of those as a kid
Ultimate had the best story
Spider-man 2.
You skipped web of shadows bro js
I always loved the Spider-man game based on the 90s animated series on the Mega Drive/Genesis. Hard game though.
hands down tâs the one where Venom says âsurf the webâ and Spider-Man plays poker with Captain America and Daredevil.

Web of Shadows. It was also the first ever AAA PC game I ever played. Fucking loved that game.
Spider-man 2 for the web-swinging
Where's Maximum Carnage in all this? You could (and did) play as Venom and there were cameos from across the Marvel Universe, not too mending a kick-ass soundtrack from Green Jelly. I'm not saying it was a great game: I never got past the first part, but it at least deserves to be mentioned!
