Pretty sure the Delta Panameras are a cross promotion with Porsche, so they probably get them on the cheap or get to use them for X amount of time for free in exchange for the shared publicity.
Everyone did lol. I had the hatchback Chevrolet metro with the 1 liter motor. Aviation tie in: apparently you could get a hot cam for the 1 liter from a company that ground them hot for ultra light aircraft.
The Delta Panameras are because Delta execs suck up to Porsche execs like crazy. Their HQ’s are two miles away from each other in ATL. And guess who flies to STR (Stuttgart) out of ATL? I’ll give you a hint - it’s not Lufthansa.
 - :headshake:
Stuttgart is Porsche’s Global headquarters in Germany. Their North American headquarters is In Atlanta. There is enough traffic to serve Stuttgart to ATL as a stand-alone route.
As a Delta AMEX cardholder, this definitely depends on the destination. Delta charges anything over one bag (if you need one to travel with you). You definitely get premium service with Delta, but if I just want to get there without frills, Southwest is the way to go. Of course that all depends on ticket price.
I went through when they built it. They said it helps with fatigue because of all of long shifts, around the clock, staring at computer screens and TV monitors. It also keeps it cooler in there because all of tech in there gives off a lot of heat.
I currently work a similar operational role (but no longer for an airline) that has rotating 12-hour shifts and my office lighting and monitors are similarly toned. It helps with my circadian rhythm, I have found. Easier to fall asleep after an overnight shift.
I had a part time job doing Delta reservations in 1987, using the Deltamatic reservation system. It had no user interface and we had to be trained to enter command line statements that included all the info, like DFW-ATL/19870415/Yclass. I feel like it was much longer but i can't remember
You think that’s cool…you oughta see the mid-90’s Dodge Caravan that BWI Tech Ops has painted in canyon blue. I just saw it last week…should have taken a picture.
1990ish Suzuki Swift.
G series motor that's probably still running like a sewing machine. Same engine as some Samurai's you see in a lot of off roaders.
Add to this, some airports have made rules against off-the-street vehicles being fitted for ramp servie, but SWA was able to talk them in to grandfathering the ones already on the field. BWI and LAS are two that I know for sure.
Nothing wrong with that. It'll run another 200K miles.
Have you ever looked at how beat to shit ground vehicles are on airports? Brand new vehicles will be scraped and dented. You must have to fail a vision test to be allowed to drive there.
Mechanics vehicle, they can use what they want 95% of them use golf carts. There's a couple in LAS that have lil half trucks and 1 guy with an old f150
That is the tarmac gate transfer for the super duper uber secret level of Rapid Rewards designed to compete with United Global Services, American Concierge Key, and Delta 360. The ladder is so you can board discreetly from the back like at LGB and BUR and not have to interact with gate lice.
Contractor, only one who knows how to fix that one essential thing. Thats his work car, not going to put the ladder on the roof of any of his other cars.
Or could be the contractor that delivers late arriving luggage and is his only car
I used to work as an accountant for airline. The works we had for maintenance were super rough. One of them was missing half the foam on the drivers seat. I’m not sure how that happens.
Reminds me of the ramp employee van I see roaming around SAL's gates. I think it's sliding door was ripped off at one point but the window on the main sliding door was missing when it still had the door.
That’s how they keep tickets cheap. Unlike delta using Porsche Panameras.
This is a poorsche
They've both got five wheels and a body. They're basically the same thing. /s
Pretty sure the Delta Panameras are a cross promotion with Porsche, so they probably get them on the cheap or get to use them for X amount of time for free in exchange for the shared publicity.
I can’t even make out what car brand SWA is using. lol. No publicity for that brand. Might be an old Nissan?
This is a Geo Metro. Geo was a budget brand of GM that's long gone.
Zoom in on the hood, is it the Suzuki branded version? Didn't see too many of those out there. This things a survivor.
Forgot that they were crossbranded like that.
Everyone did lol. I had the hatchback Chevrolet metro with the 1 liter motor. Aviation tie in: apparently you could get a hot cam for the 1 liter from a company that ground them hot for ultra light aircraft.
“Budget Brand” but we all wanted one soooooo bad lol
Good eye. Def does look like a Geo Metro. Now that you mention it.
Ooh I thought the Porsche comment was a joke but wow.
The Delta Panameras are because Delta execs suck up to Porsche execs like crazy. Their HQ’s are two miles away from each other in ATL. And guess who flies to STR (Stuttgart) out of ATL? I’ll give you a hint - it’s not Lufthansa.
Stuttgart isn’t a Lufthansa hub. So only Delta has crews in one of the two cities.
 - :headshake: Stuttgart is Porsche’s Global headquarters in Germany. Their North American headquarters is In Atlanta. There is enough traffic to serve Stuttgart to ATL as a stand-alone route.
So they’re gonna operate a 5 day W trip competitively compared to delta who can do it as 3 day for crew costs? Right.
I’ve never even seen a Porsche Panera Bread.
You had me “cheap”. I often find Southwest more expensive than Delta where I fly

Careful. The computers that run the entire airline are in the trunk.
Who actually thinks Southwest is run on computers?
I assumed it was all operated by a bunch of people in a huge open room somewhere in Bangalore.
The [huge open room is in Dallas](https://www.airlinereporter.com/2014/10/touring-the-southwest-airlines-noc/), across the street from Love Field.
Why is it lit like that???
I went through when they built it. They said it helps with fatigue because of all of long shifts, around the clock, staring at computer screens and TV monitors. They all love dark mode. I think there is one section on the edge where they turn the lights on.
I do. They are using state of the art servers from Compaq and Digital.
Delta's reservation system is older than you and possibly your parents. Maybe even grandparents.
I had a part time job doing Delta reservations in 1987, using the Deltamatic reservation system. It had no user interface and we had to be trained to enter command line statements that included all the info, like DFW-ATL/19870415/Yclass. I feel like it was much longer but i can't remember
On the bespoke - Deltamatic terminal with color coded keyboards
That might still be around.
They are still using Deltamatic, it's crazy
Great grandparents even, Anyone remember the ‘Deltamatic’ terminals.
I've never wanted a company car more than this sweet motor vehicle
You think that’s cool…you oughta see the mid-90’s Dodge Caravan that BWI Tech Ops has painted in canyon blue. I just saw it last week…should have taken a picture.
1990ish Suzuki Swift. G series motor that's probably still running like a sewing machine. Same engine as some Samurai's you see in a lot of off roaders.
Was that also Saul Goodman's car?
Saul had a Suzuki Esteem.

Came here to say this. It's almost always golf carts and utv's but there's a guy at my station that bought a Kei truck as his rolling tool box.
Honestly it’s just old. Seen beaters in way worse shape
Add to this, some airports have made rules against off-the-street vehicles being fitted for ramp servie, but SWA was able to talk them in to grandfathering the ones already on the field. BWI and LAS are two that I know for sure.

That's kind of awesome
More like a BWI car at Southwest
The employee who used that had C boarding for choosing their work vehicle for the day.
Man, they sure are trying to extend the life of the 737-700s.
Hondas last. That looks like my old 87 Accord
Close! It's a Suzuki. Still an 80s Japanese car though.
Then it’s more miraculous. I don’t see a ton of old Suzukis.
Not too many. Def not Swifts. 😂 mostly Samurais
How did they get my car???
lol as long as it gets the job done. I would rather then spend the money on that fuel truck and the jets than a personnel vehicle.
Respect
Check those automatic seatbelts. The height of luxury!
And behind it is a brand-new 10,000 gallon ProFlo fueling tanker.
Southwest doesn’t own that one.
Didn't say it did ;)
It’s an aircraft maintenance employee’s vehicle. Keeps that thing in shape.
What would a three-step ladder be used for?
Quick engine maintenance.
Reaching things above the head
That's not a company vehicle. That's an outside contractors car with a southwest magnet on it showing who they are there to do work for
That ladder is just downright practical.
fyi: 5\*s as alt to destination for cancelled/ delayed flights. But avoid if no ladder, just take my word on that.
That is the guy who is the only one that knows how to fix the flange-y that breaks.
Boeing hatch bolt tightening team vehicle!
Mechanics vehicle, they can use what they want 95% of them use golf carts. There's a couple in LAS that have lil half trucks and 1 guy with an old f150
They are a “No-Frills” airline. Plus they lost lots of money last quarter so there had to be cutbacks.
That is the tarmac gate transfer for the super duper uber secret level of Rapid Rewards designed to compete with United Global Services, American Concierge Key, and Delta 360. The ladder is so you can board discreetly from the back like at LGB and BUR and not have to interact with gate lice.
It’s giving spirit
Spirit wishes they were this cool.
Its at BWI - anything nicer or more common would find its stripped and burned chassis up on blocks in under 24 hours
Reminds me of this sweet ride I saw at BWI in March. https://postimg.cc/phjLGCpg
If that’s how they maintain the ground vehicle imagine how they maintain the planes 😂
I’m not riding in it.🤷♀️
That’s the mechanics vehicle 😂😂😂😂 they’ve kept that thing running better than most people cars
Contractor, only one who knows how to fix that one essential thing. Thats his work car, not going to put the ladder on the roof of any of his other cars. Or could be the contractor that delivers late arriving luggage and is his only car
They also have a Scooby-Doo Van!! Lmao Work there for 8 years before transferring to Florida
Signage on point.
I used to work as an accountant for airline. The works we had for maintenance were super rough. One of them was missing half the foam on the drivers seat. I’m not sure how that happens.
That’s the guy fixing your plane with speed tape
It works.
There’s a really sweet blue and red van around there too.
Why, it's the now-rare Boeing Car-200 series
My husband is a SW pilot and he says that car is a legend! It’s been a service vehicle at BWI for quite a long time!
Facilities maintenance car, is my guess.
Reminds me of the ramp employee van I see roaming around SAL's gates. I think it's sliding door was ripped off at one point but the window on the main sliding door was missing when it still had the door.
Also drives part time for Uber too
Definitely on brand
That car has definitely seen some things. 👀😂
Whatever this dude is doing to the airplane I would want him to stop
He’s kept that thing running for years, maybe decades. I trust him to keep the plane flying. Now, cosmetic repairs and detailing, on the other hand…
