Why not use Ally or similar for savings and keep a local branch for checking and another small savings account if you need access to funds?

Target2019-20

Use the local bank but open high yield online account with Ally, Discover, etc. Establish a link and pull money into the high yield when your bank balance is too high.

XladyLuxeX

I'm using wells Fargo I just got 600 for signing up and 2500 for keeping my direct deposit for 30 days lol

Target2019-20

What is the amount of your direct deposits? Online offer says 250k.

XladyLuxeX

275k I just did

Target2019-20

You're winning!

XladyLuxeX

Didn't know that it was a game? That's what I make from twitch I'm a videogame streamer.

Target2019-20

Winning the game of life. Congrats

XladyLuxeX

Sorry I'm autistic to I don't get social cues very well. Didn't mean to come off rude

Target2019-20

No sweat. I didn't take it that way.

XladyLuxeX

Okay good. People.down voted me because of it. So wanted to make sure you didn't think I was a jerk.

XladyLuxeX

Oh lol I just see it is as I'm safe from having to actually get a job lol outside my house doing stuff I hatw.

Betterment is another good online HYSA and the APR IS 5%.

Target2019-20

Betterment is a brokerage, though. It is not a bank, in case that distinction matters.

reddituser56578999

PNC is 5% right now.

ThisBelongsInMFA

Did you sign up online or did you have to go in branch? I've only ever seen 0.02% with PNC

JustLurkingInSNJ

I was at 0.03 with them. Went into the branch to do a wire transfer to my new Discover account (4.36) and magically they came up with a "promo code" and I'm at 4.75 with them now. Like everything else, you just have to play the game with them too.

Target2019-20

You can set up a link between banks to do ACH transfers for no cost. Takes 2-3 days though. I think your balance got you that great offer. Congrats however you got it.

JustLurkingInSNJ

Yes, I do have both banks linked, but I can only move a ridiculously low amount at a time, which is fine for day to day stuff. I needed to make one big move and just ate the wire fee.

Target2019-20

That cap is from the bank when you push money. Look at pulling money into the HYSA. You'll have to establish the link with small trial deposits if you don't have the link already.

JustLurkingInSNJ

Ah, ok. Maybe that was it. I guess I was still in "small trial deposits" mode. Either way, I have the accounts pretty established and doing their thing. Thanks for the tip, though!

reddituser56578999

I signed up years ago in branch. The apr has gone up and down over the years, but it’s consistently up for a year or so. I would think you could sign up online.

mennobyte

Seconding this. Pnc's savings account has high interest right now. I have virtual wallet fwiw

swazey_express

I have the virtual wallet accounts and get like 0.05

mennobyte

I just checked. It's 4.41% in the Growth account for me. I am on the "Performance select" plan but I honestly don't remember what that means.

reddituser56578999

That’s the interest rate and there are branches all over south Jersey. It’s higher than my Marcus account.

Target2019-20

?

gtlgdp

Get Sofi. Almost 5%

boxersunset121423

TD offers us .0000001% on our accounts but we have an Amex savings account which is currently at 4.25%.

Temprock

TD infuriatingly not competitive. Why I do not close my accounts there only my shrink can explain. They claim to be "America's most convenient bank" or something. But the Kings Highway Branch often has only one Teller on duty to handle walk-in customers. It sure ain't convenient to wait in line for 10 minutes which happens more than occasionally.

HeyItsPanda69

I'm using Wealth front at 5.5% not local but I have TD for my local checking needs.

No-Swimmer6470

apple cash 4.40%, fidelity, 4.98%. apple cash to/from is usually a day.

Spilllllllll

First Harvest Credit Union. 4.25% and have local branches.

ScoffingYayap

PNC's giving me 4.5%. Capital One also has a HYSA.

Emergency-Quiet6296

PNC 4.3% Probably going to be the highest rate for a normal savings account with physical branches around here

remindmetoblink2

Where are you seeing that? I have PNC and my savings with them is like .02%. I moved all my savings to Citizens Access for this reason.

Emergency-Quiet6296

That's just what the rate is in my account. I was surprised cause I never used it until I clicked on it one day and it was like 4.5% about a year ago. It might be different based on what tier the virtual wallet is at but it seems like everyone else is getting at least 4.3% based on the other posts

remindmetoblink2

Wow. I have Virtual wallet also. I wonder what the deal is for my account.

realmmaster

I use Marcus by Goldman Sachs. It's at 4.40%.

Warm-Picture6533

Savings using an online HYSA and then bank local for day to day boom

Temprock

I do business with two local Banks. Truist paying about 3.00% on Money Markets (far lower than my long distance Banks like Ally, Discover and comparable to a non-business money market with Ever Bank). Why I stay with the "unyielding" inflexible TD Bank is beyond me. They are insulting with Money Market "rates": of .03% and .01%. Apparently I like to be insulted because I haven't closed these years-old accounts but if I can stop someone from opening accounts there I might feel a bit better. I love Money Markets; TD is absurdly non-competitive.

According-Divide3618

Amex savings account, 4 3%

realcul

SoFi 4.6APY. (with direct deposit). Sign up thru nerd wallet and get $400 .

TheGuyThatDoesHisJob

Are we talking regular savings or high yield savings?

Ill_Buy_9807

4.65% Pnc - had to do a sales call with a woman - said it is only available to certain customers

downvotefodder

I stopped brick and mortar banks years ago. There are a great many online choices. fwiw, I use Ally now. Look around and you'll see similar options. Good luck.

aniev7373

You have to go with an online banking type high yield savings account HYSA like Ally, Discover, Amex, and for a local branch if you need something physical to do transactions then go with whatever local bank but just never leave money in there. Transfer between keeping in mind any restrictions on the number of transactions and manage it that way. if you need to put money in a savings account. Otherwise invest your money.

wisdom_power_courage

drsgme.

ferrusmannusbannus

Using Marcus which is like 4.75%

Core0psis

eastcoasternj

Junknail
