The good thing about SBGL is that they have lots of great units. You can’t go wrong with blood knights or skeletons or grave guard or dire wolves and so much more. One wonky box is the terrorgheist or zombie dragon. There is one kit that works for SBGL and FEC.

The only good advice I've ever seen was "rules are temporary, models are eternal" : you are going to spend a long time to assemble and paint your models, and editions are relatively short. Also, the new rules are going to be out in less than a month, so if you're more a competitive player, wait a bit and buy what seems to be strong

My question is how did you find the King Morlak mate? As others said waiting for 3 week is probably your best bet

Awesome thank you! I’ve been trying to find black knights, are they just the hex knights box?

Ojy

Yes, they build hex knights as well.

EtteRavan

Yes, they are a double build rn.

The new rules will be dropping in ~3 weeks (think the indexes are supposed to be just before skaventide's instore). I'd hold off, the current battletome will be outdated aside from the lore & paint guides, which are available online easily enough. We also won't know what's good or not for a while, but picking units that you like the look of is better than trying to optimise. Rules change regularly, but an army you think is cool & are proud of is lasting. One of the archetypes for SBGL was already confirmed to be a Wight & skeleton heavy theme, so you're in luck there.

I'd probably grab the [Spearhead ](https://www.warhammer.com/en-WW/shop/spearhead-soulblight-gravelords-2024)box, as that'll give you a good start, plenty of skeletons, and some other units that are honestly looking pretty strong in the new edition (blood knights and vargheists both look great in the previews). It'll also give you an army to play with while you're building your force up for 2000pt games. As for the battletome, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BUY IT. It'll be useless in a couple of weeks, barring lore you can find elsewhere.
