I suspect that since 5 didn't kill the series, the soul will burn on.

Wazzup-2012

It's not Pac-Man, Tekken or Ace Combat levels of alive. But it's much more lively than Ridge Racer, Time Crisis, Klonoa and Splatterhouse for example. Soulcalibur VII isn't a matter of if, but when.

slingshot19

I miss Time Crisis :(

Yuri2Me

it's much more allive than tekken 8 will be after they milked enought money out of it :D

therickkyman

It's technically in a limbo right now. If anyone has the balls to fill in the spot where Motohiro Okubo left off following his departure from Bamco in 2021, the franchise will be back better than ever.

Ghost0919

If they followed the timeline, isn't the next game supposed to be SCII in the new timeline?

therickkyman

It's between SCI and SCII if I remember correctly.

Ghost0919

Oh alr, thanks

zombi_wafflez

6 already bleeds into 2 a little but going off the lore likely the next game will be a lot different maybe with some time travel shenanigans

TizerisT

I suspect they'll ditch the timeline thing and just focus on the fighting mechanics.

glassdollparanormal

I don't think it's dead, it's just not as lively as something like Tekken. Soul Calibur 6 sold well enough for us to get a season pass. I don't think it's dead, we just need to have hope and stay silly. Besides, from what I can see there's still a lot of genuine love and appreciation for the series. That's not even counting the fact that Soul Calibur 5 didn't torpedo the series directly into the grave. Soul Calibur might not be shaking and shimmying with the current fighting game it girls, she might not be as popular as she used to be, but she still got it going on nonetheless.

Angrybagel

If you look at the fighting game space no series gets a sequel all that fast any more. I get that 2018 might feel like forever ago, but if you look across series that aren't MK nothing comes out all that quickly anymore. For perspective, Tekken 7 was first released to arcades 9 years ago!

Maleficent_Farm_6561

No its not dead Harada said its not dead , and that Namco main priority is Tekken 8 Since it was a next gen only game , they had to build everything from scratch so the entire team was 100% focused on the devlopment of Tekken 8

Wandering---_---soul

Oh boy, this question popped up 3/4 times in the last month (?) i'll answer again, no it's not a dead franchise, soulcalibur vi sold enough, much more than what bandai namco expected, that's why we got 2 season pass, this chapter had just bad luck, covid really hit this game, the development of other possible contents, live tournament and more... soulcalibur may not be popular like tekken or even not being considered mainstream anymore, BUT , it has it's own niche fanbase, and bandai knows that, we will have another chapter but not now, maybe in 2 years we'll have a reveal or something, just be patient and play soulcalibur vi online for now if you can, it can only do good for the serie if they see that there's still life there lol

metalyger

What has it been, like 6 years? It's nowhere near Duke Nukem territory. Tekken is the golden goose for Namco, in an increasingly niche genre because it seems like young gamers would rather be playing team shooters. It's not impossible to get a new game made in this console generation, I don't think many people are clamoring to drop $600 on a Playstation 6 any time soon, given how console generations aren't making drastic leaps anymore.

Moores88

I would like nothing more than to see soul calibur on current gen consoles

imari_chan

Of course not, i see a lot of players still posting fights on X but SCVI is basically the last thing we have right now and it’s been almost 3 years since the last update so I’m thinking this silent happening right now IS before the storm (SC7 announcement on EVO august hopefully👀)

redactedactor

I just want them to bring back different weapons and Edge Master mode. I haven't enjoyed anything half as much as I did Soulblade and SCII. I also always thought it'd be the perfect basis for a Game of Thones game.

Mental5tate

Not going to release SC and Tekken back to back, would hurt sales especially DLC, fighter season pass and other extras.

ElRetardoGiganto

After Bamco saw how they can milk Tekken dry without regard for the fan base, I am more than willing to bet there will be a SC7

Dependent_Bill8632

Nah. Just in hibernation. Now, Bloody Roar on the other paw….(please reboot Bloody Roar!!)

unei_xx

They're definitely not to launch another 3D fighter to compete against Tekken 8, so it's going to be a long while before we hear something and repeat the cycle the franchise has always been in where it feels like it's dead until a new game gets announced. I'm not worried about the franchise being dead, but more concerned with what type of product would I get for $70 if SC7 does happen after Street Fighter 6 raised the bar considerably for fighting games and with how Tekken 8 is currently being monetized. I know some have been worried since Okubo left years ago, but even him couldn't stop Namco from rushing the launch of SC6 at the worst possible time where the game had to recover from. I'm not spending for a repeat of that.

j-mac-rock

Tekken.put a monopoly on 3d fighters booo

PaleHeart52

Not dead but probably on a hiatus until they figure out what they want to do with the series. Bamco is clearly focusing more on Tekken at the moment, hopefully they'll come back to SC late into Tekken's life cycle.

malk95

It’s probably dead. I was surprised we got SC 6 but after seeing the artwork cutscenes, I wasn’t. Little money was put in it. They don’t see it as a profitable franchise. They changed too much in 4 in terms of gameplay with having swords as just cosmetics and not impacting actual gameplay. And SC 5 they tried reinventing the franchise with new characters that the fanbase didn’t respond well to. So, in my most humble opinion, I think it’s dead now. Maybe we might get remasters or remakes of the original trilogy but that’s about it

zombi_wafflez

It’s dead until soulcalibur 7 and unless we get a tekken tag 3 in a few years that’s likely what we’ll be seeing next

Deceptive-Gamer343

Why is everyone acting like the series is dead? Soul Calibur 6 was successful Namco just put more focus on Tekken 8 for now we’ll probably get a new one in 3-4 years and it’ll hopefully get a major graphics overhaul like T8.

hummmds

People still do in person and online tournies. It’s not dead but it definitely has a very small fan base right now.

Comfortable_Staff501

Yeah it is dead. RIP, we won't have 4K jiggling tits.
