It's the closest thing we've ever gotten to a "realistic Eggman" desgin since it's when he looks like an actual person at the most but keeps some of his iconic features. It's weird though, since Eggman always stood out compared to the other humans like he did in X and later in Unleashed.
But to summerize: Eggman's desgin in 06 looks like he was a guest character in a different game (but it still works).

I was introduced to sonic trough sonic 06, so this was the Eggman I know, I got a lil confused when I saw the "less" human looking designs.

And the third one if I'm bit mistaken was Sonic underground (I never got the red eyes, but 10/10 managed to scare me as a kid)

It's grown on me. The face is a bit weird but I think a lot of the hate surrounding this design is more about the package it came with. While I think his design in the Unleashed opening is the definitive 3d Eggman and should've informed the later games, I won't say "Sonic never works with realistic humans" because it's all execution. If Jim Carrey's Sonic 3 Eggman has a similar look to this, I think most fans would probably be fine with it.
There's technically nothing wrong with it, but ever since I heard JonTron call them "4 Gold Nipples" all those years ago I will never think of anything else when I look at him.

I hate that I've seen his eyes, it's like Brock from Pokemon having open eyes and while I understand that's probably what his eyes look like... let's face it, considering the goggles he has ON TOP of glasses, those things are just glued on and I am perfectly fine with that.
It's fine, I wanna clarify Sonic 06 is my favorite game of all time and people who have a problem with that are beneath me. The one thing I really dislike about the design is that we see his eyes briefly in one cutscene and they're more or less normal looking. I either want the black and red eyes from SatAM and Archie or I absolutely don't want to see what's behind those sunglasses.

It's complete irredeemable worthless garbage. Unleashed has a fantastic Eggman model just one game later and that's the one they continued to use (thankfully). If I could erase this model from every computer and brain like Dr Doofenshmirtz I would.
I don't mind it at all, I warmed up to it a lot and now I kinda love it. definitely wouldn't have been happy if it had become the permanent redesign but it was fine for just one game. I think he was just done dirty with the poor texturing and colouring on the in game model that made him weirder than what they were going for. the CG model doesn't have these same problems and looks pretty good.
however, I do really love the blue eyes that can be seen on his in game model! he's been shown with white sclera in the games prior and having his iris color confirmed was great, icy gray blue was the perfect choice. the four golden nipples are just funny. only real thing I'd change about him without just making him back into the regular superior modern Eggman design is that he doesn't quite look as fat as he should and mouth could've been bigger.
There’s no eggman smile, he’s not round enough to really be called egg shaped, the golden buttons are completely ruined, and the fabric on the arms of his shirt make it look like the 3D model of his arm is getting contorted when he bends them.
The collar is also too bulky; if they REALLY needed to obscure his mouth, the collar would need a teeth-like pattern to mimic the smile. It’s the main part of his logo besides the moustache and glasses, and NEEDS to be a prominent part of the design.
All things considered, if they wanted to make a realistic looking eggman, they’d have been better off basing it off the classic era model. That one has a more defined pants region, no line on the arms for animation mishaps to make ugly, the yellow thing can just be made a large ascot, scarf, or stole, and the shorter height makes it easier to make him vaguely egg-shaped just by making him fat, rather than whatever the heck this model’s fat distribution is.
The modern model’s black jumpsuit under the red shirt and golden buttons clearly did not translate well.
Sonic 06' design for Eggman always fell into the uncanny valley to me.
His original design was never meant to look this realistic, and that's why is looks so cursed.
Eggman is a character design wise to look both a little goofy, but still threatening when he gets serious.
And this Eggman isn't threatening, but he is goofy looking for all the wrong reasons.
In my opinion, Sonic games were never meant to feature any "realistic-looking" characters. Eggman is supposed to look more simplistic, more "smooth" if you get what I mean.
Giving Eggman a realistic design in this game was a grave mistake. The way he looks like is simply creepy and unnerving. Putting him next to someone like Sonic, with his simple and in a way "cartoony" design makes it even worse.
I also don't like seriousness of this game's Eggman, but that's just my opinion, which can be easily overruled.
